A Glimpse Inside the Inner Sea Pawn Box

Thursday, October 30, 2014

It's always an exciting day when an envelope arrives containing a monthly Paizo subscription. It's even better, however, when that envelope is replaced by a box. In the near future subscribers to the Pathfinder Pawns line will find in their mailboxes not only a box, but a box inside a box—the Inner Sea Pawn Box!

This large pawn collection features over 200 unique figures and 439 total pawns, assembled from such seminal Pathfinder Campaign Setting sources as The Inner Sea World Guide, Inner Sea Gods, Inner Sea NPC Codex, Paths of Prestige, Inner Sea Combat, and Inner Sea Magic. But even with so many incredibly illustrated sources to draw character images from, we still wanted more. So we ordered new pieces to fill in the gaps.

Among the pawns I'm most excited to get out into the wild are a priest and priestess of each of the setting's core twenty gods, and mounted versions of a Hellknight, a Knight of Ozem, iconic cavalier Alain, and a Sable Company marine.

While most of the pawns in the set represent nameless characters from nations or organizations from the Inner Sea region, there are also a fair number of named individuals like Grandmaster Torch, the Gorilla King of Usaro, the iconic characters from the Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, and the Advanced Class Guide, and the goblin adventurers from We Be Goblins!

What archetypal Inner Sea encounter are you going to use the characters in the Inner Sea Pawn Box to run first?

looks awesome, one question, who is grandmaster torch? where is he from? he looks like he's in pretty rough shape, that guy needs a Spa weekend:p

First, I'm hoping that there are 439 total pawns as 439 paws is going to weigh down the box …

Also, isn't Alain going to be jealous that Damiel quit Alchemy and bumped him out as the Iconic Cavalier?

The joys of writing blogs in between other projects. The above-mentioned edits have been made.

Also, the Mounted Hellknight URL has a typo in it.

So we'll have pawns of all of the iconics now? Cool! I wonder, for Card Game fans, how many of the Class Deck characters are covered now between this and the NPC Codex Box?

He was the head of the Shadow Lodge.

Don't worry, he eventually got a "spa weekend".

I've gotten all the pawn sets but was starting to get a little blasé. While there are a lot of awesome things in them the Bestiary and AP sets are more and more filling with obtuse things that I'm never really going to use.

This Inner Sea Pawn Box has got me excited for pawns again! It looks to be just packed with useful pawns that will fill lots of needed roles.

PS. The mounted hell knight link doesn't work.

That looks more like a paid double than the real Grandmaster Torch. But the real question is will the Bacon Sage be in the box?

Edit: I am quiet excited about this box nonetheless.

This blog post made me happy. I preordered this back in June. So nice to see I wasn't wrong.

I hope there's more brown and black people in this set (and not just europeanized ones). Even with having gotten the Mummy's Mask set last week there aren't that many brown and black people in my pawn collection. :/

You had me at Grandmaster Torch.

My one real hope for this collection was that we would see some PFS specific characters...hopefully a good number of Venture Captains and such. Being able to pull out Sheila Heidmarch from the Shattered Star set always got scenarios off to a good start.

These are really cool, but...

Is that Hellknight wielding a double lance?!

My brain is trying to come up with what such a weapon could possibly be used for... and failing...

Nope, just a standard lance with a counter-weight to the back for ease of balancing, that and that bulbous point also looks as if it would help the Hellknight use the lance as a spear if unhorsed, allowing him to set it to receive a charge. Bear in mind this is all guesswork by me.

That hellknight's awesome. Let's see him in plastic please.

Ah, suddenly that all makes sense and I can go back to appreciating the awesome artwork.

Thank you. :)

Thanks for the update.

Did the Syrinx (from Inner Sea Bestiary) make the cut?
