Four Tales, Ten Heroes

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Last year the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign introduced a new system for sanctioning Pathfinder Tales novels. Rather than create a Chronicle sheet for each new book, we introduced the "Pathfinder Tales, Volume IV Chronicle sheet," so named because it represented the fourth distinct set of four Pathfinder Tales novels. This means a player only needs to print the Chronicle sheet once to enjoy the benefits of reading four books. As has always been the case, a player must bring a printed or digital (legally obtained and including a watermark indicating such) book to a sanctioned Pathfinder Society event to unlock a novel's Chronicle sheet boon.

It's my pleasure to announce that "Pathfinder Tales, Volume V" is now available for download. This Chronicle sheet sanctions Stalking the Beast, The Dagger of Trust, Skinwalkers, and, The Redemption Engine for the organized play campaign. As was the case for Volume IV, this most recent installment also grants one of your characters a permanent boon if you have all four novels. You can download it from the Additional Resources page or any of the product pages.

Of course, with Nightblade just about to hit shelves, we're only a few months away from needing "Pathfinder Tales, Volume VI." Best get reading!

Last week we also released the pregenerated characters for all 10 of the new Pathfinder RPG Advanced Class Guide iconic characters. Having first debuted at Gen Con Indy 2014, these characters are now available for use by everyone in the organized play campaign.

As always, let us know what you think about this newer format for the Pathfinder Tales Chronicle sheets and the new two-sided versions of these latest pregenerated characters.

Happy gaming!

Thanks John for getting these out!

I have a few questions if you have a moment.

Are you still planning on going back to the old ones to edit them to the new format?

What should be our expectations on when future release of these will be? I think a few of us expected them to come out when the first book came out of the 4 books so were a little disappointed that they took longer than expected. Should we change those expectations? Is it reasonable to assume for the future they will come out after the last of book is released or do you have something else in mind for when they will be released?

On to the Pregens, it was mentioned that the original ones were being worked on and new ones were going to be added for the classes that currently don't have a pregen, will those be coming out in the next few weeks or will it be a few months down the road?

Once again thanks for getting these out I look forward to adding them to a PC.

Revisiting the older Tales sanctioning documents is a lower priority than ensuring that future sanctioning documents are available in a more timely fashion.

I'm aiming to release a Tales sanctioning Chronicle sheet closer to the release date of the final book in the series simply based on how I tend to create these boons, which involves my reading the books first. As I hit those dates, I anticipate working ahead of the final book's publication date to release the Chronicle sheet closer to the penultimate book's street date.

Based on the present schedule, I think that's looking more like a few months. With the holiday season approaching (and publication dates hitting when many employees are going to be out of the office), I'm first trying to work ahead on scenarios to keep those on track.

It's exciting to see the Pathfinder Tales boons caught up! While on the subject of catching up, with the one year anniversary of Wardens of the Reborn Forge drawing near, do you guys have any idea when sanctioning for it is going to be finished? I'm excited at the prospect of running it in PFS mode, now that I've already run it just for the fun of it.

Another question, how do these boons work for households?? I have all of the books, but can my husband and children get the boons using the same books, or do we have to decide who "owns" the boon?

Missed the release of those pregens, this is great, it did make me reflect, why have there never been pregens for the APG classes or Magus?

There used to be APG pre-gens that came out back when it came out. They stopped being legal when the UC pre-gens came out. Mike has stated they are working on them, but have not had a chance to get them done as of yet. Also, John mentioned a few days ago that it would probably after the holidays (and my guess RPG Superstar then) that they have a chance to possibly work on them.
