We've said it before but it bears repeating: when we asked you to help us sort through the wondrous items for RPG Superstar Round 1, we had no idea just how dedicated our fans truly are. We had almost a half million total votes cast. That's at least 8,000 hours of cumulative time spent ranking items, or the equivalent of one person* working full time for more than four years—all over the course of a single month.

  • Number of Star Voters (100 votes): 592
  • Number of Dedicated Voters (500 votes): 231
  • Number of Marathon Voters (1,000 votes): 84
  • Number of people who voted exactly 99 times: 8
  • Number of people who voted exactly 501 times: 116

Special thanks go to our three Champion Voters (5,000 votes):

The judges are combing the results right now, and the top 32 items will be unveiled Tuesday, January 22 at 2 p.m. Pacific time. If you haven't started on your Round 2 archetype for the River Kingdoms, you'd better get busy!

*Note: If that one person is Clark Peterson or Neil Spicer, the task would be completed in under one calendar month, but that's only because they're actually inhuman judging machines.

Marathon Voter Season 6

Holy crap, Thomas LeBlanc. Maybe he should be RPG Superstar 2013 Grand Champion Voter.

He's like Neil Spicer-lite.

Neil Spicer Zero?

LeBlanc spent roughly 120 hours voting? 15 8-hour work days? That's... a lot.

Wow, Thomas. I'm impressed. Or disturbed. I'm not sure which.

The poor 99ers. I know I slowed down a lot once I got to Marathon, so I'm not surprised there were 116 blue jeans voters.

I'm pleased I managed to get into the exclusive field of 84. Hopefully I'll still get into a more exclusive Superstar field, but I'll settle for that for now.

Gary, can we find out how many Champion voters we had?

Go Thomas!!!!

And glad I'm in an elite 84.

I think Thomas should get a little crown or something to go next to his voter tag. "Yeah, that's right. I'm the KING of voting. You all can feel free to worship at your leisure."

I'll take being in the slightly less elite, but still formidable "Dedicated Voters Division." DVD for short. I'm making t-shirts. :P

I didn't realize the Marathon Voter level would be such an exclusive club. Then again, probably the only reason I made it that far was that it took that long (about 2000 votes by my estimate) for me to see my own item. I think I only voted 3 times after that.

So if there were 1000 items, plus or minus, then each item was voted on around 1000 times. That should lead to some pretty reliable rankings!

500,000 votes of 2 items each = 1,000,000 item-votes, then divide by 1000 items = 1000 votes each item.

Wait a second...almost half a million votes? As in, just under 500,000? That would mean...

My voting alone accounted for over 1% of the vote.

Meep.

I'm confused. I admit I haven't been following the superstar contests, but how can you cast a thousand votes in one ongoing contest with obviously less participants? Can you vote as often as you like for the same contestant now?

you didn't vote for contestants at all in the first round, you were just given two anonymous items from the pool to rank against each other... again and again and again (with different item pairings each time though).

We weren't voting for individual items. We were ranking two items at a time. We would see two items and pick which one was better. Then we would see another pair. When you match every item up to every other item, you get thousands of pairings with only hundreds of items.

EDIT: D'oh! Ninja'd!

Ah I see, I didn't know that there was voting in the first round. In previous contests, I think, the winners of round one were chosen by the judges. Interesting method! :)

Well done to everyone who voted with huge props to our three Champion Voters: Thomas LeBlanc, CHEERS and Feros. Completely awesome!

Gary, if possible can you say who had the most votes out of the Marathon voters? I think like a few, I got to Marathon and then eased up but are there any voters who went for Champion but didn't quite get there?

The winners of round one are still chosen by the judges, all of our feverish voting was just to determine the order in which the judges look at the items.

Thanks all! (mumbling)for making me feel like I had nothing better to do for the entire voting period

When a number is attached, the time sinks seems so much larger. I was pretty close to Marathon by the end of the first weekend. I would have earned Dedicated just voting at stop lights traveling to-from work.

Last Thursday at the game store, we played a game where someone would read off an pair of items and I had to be able to give a synopsis for each item from memory. I was accurate about 80% of the time.

Well voting is over and I am going through withdrawal. Gary was my pusher and the damn smart phone was an enabler...

Some friends were making characters recently for a PFS-like Shattered Star game, but while everyone else was thinking of PFS-legal item options for their characters, I just couldn't get the endless list of RPGSS items out of my head! I seriously need to recover from this voting process, and I wasn't even one of the top voters.

Shine on, you crazy voting diamonds.

My gf came up with the idea for a one-shot involving opening voting pages and then equipping the characters with no magic items other than one or the other of those items. Before the cull, it would have been a bit of a comedic one-shot for sure...

The voter titles are cool and all, but how about titles for those of us who have submitted to the contest every year? I'm certainly a "Dedicated Submitter," but I don't think you can call me "Champion Submitter" since I fail to crack the top 32 every year.

I'd be interested in to see statistics on that. I hope I'm not the only chronic hopeful that has entered every year and not made the top 32. Maybe this will be my lucky year. It is certainly my most "Superstar" item based on the judge's preferences.

Wow.
Well, if they aren't at least SOMEWHAT close to the proper order now, they're never going to be. I bet our top three voters have had a discernible impact on this competition all by themselves. They account for like, what, 4% of the total vote cast??

And hats off to everyone over Star Voter status! I tried to make time for it, but I would always start nodding off in my chair.
