We Be Goblins, You Be Food!

One of the hardest things about working at Paizo is not talking about the awesome products that are being worked on but haven't been announced yet. Especially when you're the marketing guy and it's your job to tell people about the awesome products that we're working on. This year's Free RPG Day release, We Be Goblins! is a perfect example of this; it's been in the works for months but I haven't been able to say anything until now.

Cover Illustration by Tyler Walpole

We Be Goblins! is an adventure by Richard Pett for 1st-level characters in which you get to play a horde of malicious and murderous goblins that have stumbled upon one of the greatest treasures in goblindom—fireworks! Unfortunately, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh outside Sandpoint in order to prove yourselves as the Licktoads' bravest goblins. And yet even once you've proven your mettle, the adventure is just beginning—for the ship in question is far from uninhabited, and Vorka the cannibal goblin would like nothing better than a few tasty visitors...

We Be Goblins! is a complementary adventure to August's Pathfinder Player Companion: Goblins of Golarion (which I also just announced right there—sneaky, eh?) and an optional prequel to Pathfinder Adventure Path's upcoming Jade Regent Adventure Path. This special 16-page Pathfinder Module will initially be made available as Paizo's contribution to Free RPG Day on Saturday, June 18. Print editions will be available for sale exclusively on paizo.com beginning the following Monday, and a FREE PDF will also be released that day.

Darn it. My relatively local games store didn't have enough of the Pathfinder stuff last Free RPG Day.
Supplies look like they're going to be even moe inadequate this year.

AWESOME.

When goblins are PCs, they should add saving throw rules for this sort of thing.

What are the chances that someone who wants to organize a Free RPG Day event around this adventure can get an early PDF to prep with? I might be able to get my favorite store owner to let me put up a poster of the cover and advertise to try and get a couple tables to play this adventure in-store that day. If I have the adventure ahead of time I can print out scaled color maps. The store could even raffle off or give away the maps I make that compliment the adventure. It would all advertise Pathfinder and PFS here locally.

Tam

generally the store will get their free RPG day pack a bit before the actual day, so you should at least be able to get a hardcopy to prep with.

Auctioning off the maps might run into some problems with the copy for personal use only cluase for most print outs though.

There is no interaction between iconic and goblin in this adventure. It's all goblins, all the time.

Just had to say this:
Awesome.

Hoorah!

Blimmey this was awesome fun to write and splendid to be asked. I feel like I was handling James' babies.

As a long-time fan of the old "Reverse Dungeon" set, thank you. Monster games are amongst my favorite to run, and Goblins (as the deranged muppets of the Galoron setting) are an especial delight to watch my players play.

Though this is cool, What I loved last year was that the module could be run for PFS and I could introduce PFS to new players. Are you guys going to do something for PFS on Free RPG day?

While a Chronicle won't be printed in the adventure itself like it was in Master of the Fallen Fortress, we will be continuing the trend of releasing a pdf Chronicle and special rules for running this module in PFS play. The goal is to have that available for download before Free RPG Day so people can run it on the day at their local game store.

It will contain pregens, and players may provide credit to an existing PC based on having played the adventure. Not complicated at all.

Quite the opposite. We've upped our sponsorship from Gold to Platinum, which means we're providing a 50% increase in the number of copies of our product in each box (from 10 per box last year to 15 per box this year).

Yes but it Does not "Tie" into PFS, I was looking for somthing that "ties" into PFS like last years Module or Godsmouth can be used for. In other words you can't use PFS characters, so this does not work well for a Intro for PFS which Free RPG day is perfect for.

Sorry to disappoint you. I'm fairly confident that this adventure will get people excited to go into their local game store to get to play a goblin, to get a preview of both our upcoming goblins book and our next adventure path, and hopefully spend some money at their FLGS. Free RPG Day isn't just about PFS, in other words. There are plenty of free introductory PFS adventures in the works, so don't fear.

Silver Crusade

Oh hell yes!

Paizo goblins are my favorite incarnation of goblins so I'll defiantly be getting this one & the Guide to book.

Thanks!

No worries, sooner or later, everyone disappoints me.. ;)

Mostly being selfish on this anyway, I am more looking to Grow my PFS group then to Promote people buying stuff at the Local FLGS, though that tends to go hand in hand, but not my reason behind it, it is just a side effect.

I just know now that the Store Organizer is going to see this post and email me.. ;)

Tam,
We send the Free RPG Day product to participating retailers 2 weeks in advance for the sole purpose of the retailer getting the material to GMs to run the game on the day of the event.

Actually, no. Paizo raised the ante this year. Usually they are a Gold sponsor...this year they are at Platinum...the max!

Referencing another thread....can we expect goblin cheesecake in these books?

Dark Archive

I don't care what this says about me, This is THE product I must have this year. Will Paizo have hard copies to sell after the day? I live in an area with no gaming so going to a supporting store is an 1 1/2 hour drive each way with no promise of getting the item you want. I know it says there will be but last year I had to turn to E-bay as the Paizo store was out of them on Monday.
P.S. Will so be buying the goblin book too.

I'm looking forward to either finding a DM to run this at Free RPG day, or baring that, running it myself at my FLGS.

There are still hardcopies of Master of the Fallen Fortress, as well as all previous Free RPG Day material save the first year available at the Paizo store. They may not be available immediately on Monday morning following the event, but we will have copies for sale on the web store, and I am certain they won't sell out within the first few days, most likely not even for several years.

Thanks man. That addresses most of my concerns right there. I really hope though that those of us that are hoping to go all out on printing maps and such can get access to a PDF ahead of time.

Any chance we can get the "Free RPG Day" Modules added to the Subscription for those of us without Game Stores who get these in?

They post on the blog the day its released, and you can add it to your next shipment at that time... I'm guessing they don't want to add it to your subscriptions, as that would defeat the purpose of Free RPG day - getting people into stores

Well of course they are. They are the biggest player in the RPG market at the moment. We would expect no less!
