Name: The Great Legionnaires
Alignment: Neutral Good
Role: Guardians/Peacekeepers
Accepted Roles: We accept all roles as long as they conform to our rules. While we are primarily a military clan in nature we like to have a strong economic engine to drive us forward. An engine powered by artisans and merchants.
Website: gl-gamers.net (Under Construction as of 4/28/12)
Voice Chat: Teamspeak 3. It is fully operational. PM me for details on access.

The Ideology of The Great Legionnaires

The Great Legionnaires are a clan entirely dedicated to the protection of the weak and the triumph of good over evil. Whether supporting a righteous government against it's vile enemies, or helping support a rebellion against a corrupt overlord the Great Legionnaires can always be counted on to support what they believe is just.

The Great Legionnaires on Good vs. Evil- We define good as selflessly helping others even if it yields no direct personal benefit. These are actions such as putting yourself in harms way on another's behalf with no promise of reward, or giving up your possessions to a person or cause in need of them.

We define evil as bringing harm on to others who you would otherwise have no quarrel against for selfish reasons or misguided ideology. These would be actions such as robbing a random passerby of their possessions, or unnecessary violence against peaceful parties either for gain, sick pleasure, or the worship of a foul deity such as Asmodeus.

The Great Legionnaires holds it as a self evident truth that good is superior to evil. Cooperation leads to prosperity and and a higher standard of living for all, where as evil yields no fruits but rather causes destruction and a loss of productivity for all but the perpetrators, and sometimes even them. The basis of a just and prosperous society is that the strong look protect the weak.

((Out of Character we do see the need for banditry, and evil aligned clans who cause conflict and yield fun fights. We love an honorable opponent looking for a challenging fight and will mirror the respect they show others. We however have no love for griefers, or those who fight simply to ruin the experience of others. We will seek to ruin their experience as they ruin it for others.))

The Great Legionnaires on Law vs. Chaos- We find the ideas of law noble but... a luxury the innocent cannot always afford. Ideas like always letting your enemy see you before you attack, never killing an opponent if they can be captured to be put on trial, refusing to torture even if the information gained can save lives etc. Are all nice in theory. The Great Legionnaires will gladly accept members who subscribe to them. However as a whole most members of the Great Legionnaires would rather tarnish their "honor" than fail to slay the wicked and therefore allow more innocents to die. Our honor is in who we slay, not how we slay them. A knife in the back or a bloodthirsty tyrant ends his reign just as effectively as his defeat in a fair duel.

However we have no aversion to law and the order it brings. Where a more chaotic soul might resent those who come to wealth or power even by honest means, the Great Legionnaires only resent those who rise to power through the exploitation of others. Our job is not to fight for the poor to rise up over the wealthy. Nor is it to see those who wish to live outside the law to bend their knee to it. Our job is to see good triumph over evil. Nothing more and nothing less. People should live in whatever type of society they will, so long as that society does not oppress them or spill the blood of the innocent.

Who We are Looking For

First and foremost the Great Legionnaires are a military force. We aim to be be the vanguard of the forces against good, riding out to meet it on whatever field it takes. We cannot be dissuaded by bribes or promises of power. The only thing that will stop us from slaying the wicked is their surrender and repentance. For this task we need people fervently committed to our goals and ideology, willing to give all that they have to see good triumph over evil. Whether that be a willingness to toil day and night to see our armies equipped, our forts and cities spread, and our navy grow into the grandest that has ever seen the seas, or it is a willingness to fight tirelessly on behalf of good day and night is up to the individual. We simply have a few things we require of our members:

1. Our warriors are not a horde, they are a shining beacon of light in the darkness. We aim to hone them into one of the greatest fighting forces in all of Golarion. Those who are to wear the uniform of our soldiers must first prove their strength and cunning, and always strive to better themselves.
2. Our blades must never spill the blood of the innocent. Never must we sheath our blood uninstigated against one who has not shown themselves to be an enemy of the righteous.
3. The Great Legionnaires seek to unite the forces of good against the forces of evil. If we are to do so we must not turn the forces of good against us with our own words. Speak boldly and plainly what needs to be said but do not let childish insults and unnecessary rudeness flow from your lips.
4. Let your word be your honor. Do what you say, and say what you mean. If a Great Legionnaire makes a deal they should honor it. If you accept a contract do not break the terms. Do your best to fulfill any obligation you make.
5. Surrender is not an option. The Great Legionnaires will never surrender as a company nor should any among us plead or make deals for their life. Kill your enemy, or run that you might live to fight another day, but never make deals.
6. We do not debate our rules with outsiders. If a member oversteps their bounds we will deal with it internally. Outsiders may bring issues to our attention but we don't care to let our enemies try to twist our own rules against us. The letter of our rules is less important than the mindset of our members who follow them.

((All good aligned members are welcomed with open arms regardless of their chaotic-lawful stance. Neutral members may be accepted if they can make a good case as to why their character would want to commit themselves to a selfless order bent on the triumph of good over evil. No evil members will ever be accepted. Formerly evil is fine. Evil is not.

Using Teamspeak is a requirement once the game goes live. Owning a microphone is not. Just HIGHLY suggested, and required for anyone who wishes to give orders during a battle.))

Allying the Great Legionnaires

Quite simply, you cannot kill innocents. Anyone who would randomly slay innocent people or lay sword to peace loving nations is evil by our standards and we will not stand alongside them. If you do not slay innocents, or otherwise bring them harm, then you are our ally already. We are the allies of all who do are not evil. But we are always willing to enter into more formal negotiations. The better we know you, the better we can help you.

Why Should You Join the Great Legionnaires?

We offer training and freedom to any who wish to see good triumph over evil. Do you wish to fight against impossible odds, alone or with a few trusted allies at your side? Fine, we will train you, arm you, and you can go to support our cause and our allies in the darkest regions of the world.

Do you wish to take part in a large, organised, and well trained military? We wish to build powerful cities and ensure the River Kingdoms always remain a place in which the good is has the edge over evil. Fight in our legions and fight hand in hand with our main forces and our most powerful allies to secure out interests at home.

Do you wish to sail the seas and explore the furthest reaches of the world? We have room for scouts, explorers, and we wish to build the finest navy on the seas. Achieve your goals alongside us.

Do you wish to preach the message of peace? Do you wish to use words before swords to turn the wicked away from their ways? Do you wish to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, and see the defenseless are defended? We accept pacifists, altruists, diplomats, and all other manners of people who wish to help others in a way other than spilling the blood of the wicked.

Do you wish to operate in the shadows, learning the plans and sabotaging the efforts of the wicked? Do you wish to silently end the lives of the corrupt or steal their fortunes from under their noses? We have rooms for rogues, spies, or any other who have a heart for the light, but light in the shadows.

Do you wish to build grand cities, or beautiful masterpieces? Do you want to work hard and know that your works go to a cause more meaningful than your own pockets? Join us as a artisan, architect, or engineer. You will help see that our armies are fed and equipped, or that our walls and ships are sturdily built.

To Join

Speak to one of our leaders or officers, or submit an application form on this board describing who you are, and why you wish to join us.

((You can also apply on our website if it is finished by the point that you read this. As of 4/28/2012 we do not have forums or member registration available yet.))

Until the release of Pathfinder or at least until we get into beta I would like to get any willing members on our Teamspeak playing games together. If you are interested say so in your application and I will get you the Teamspeak info. A clan who knows eachother and has fought alongside eachother already will be all the more powerful on the game's release.

Also be thinking about what games you would be interested in playing as a clan. I'm thinking Diablo 3 and/or Guild Wars 2 but I am always open to suggestions.

I'm going on a camping trip this weekend. After my return and after we have enough interested applicants/the game we want to play is out I'll pick a game based on member feedback and we can get started.

((This is my characters profile. I realize nothing is set in stone at this point but this is the character concept I have in mind at the moment that I am hoping to play.))

Name: Andius Meuridiar
Age: 23
Race: Human OR Half-elf
Height: 6'7" (Its my height IRL.)
Weight: 250 lbs.
Class: Cleric
Physical Features: Andius has blue eyes and brown hair with a tint of red in his facial hair. He never shaves his beard but sometimes trim, and seldom lets his hair grow long enough to reach past his eyes when pulled straight down. He has very fair skin unmarked by and paint, piercings or tattoos but with occasional scars.
Gear and Equipment: He tends to dress in clothes of solid colors or simple patterns or in well polished armor of a silver hue adorned with the the red and white of the Great Legionnaires and icons of his goddess Sarenrae. At his side hangs a scimitar that when unsheathed is ablaze with fire much like the one wielded by Sarenrae and on his back rests a kite shield with a rounded top adorned with the symbol of Sarenrae. On his head sits an open faced helm with a red crest and on his back rests a cloak of red and white adorned with the symbol of the Great Legionnaires embroidered in gold colored thread.
Powers and Abilities Andius is known to wield the powers of healing and fire granted to him by his goddess Sarenrae. When his powers run low he can also wield his sword though he certainly prefers the use of his divine magic. But beyond any of these Andius is known for the power of his words. He is honest, plain-speaking, and entirely dedicated to his cause, making him a powerful diplomat with a sometimes intimidating presence.
Biography: Little is know of Andius' early history. At a young age he was sent to a temple of Sarenrae to assist the clerics and be educated. He spent much time studying and scribing copies of "The Birth of Light and Truth." and it forged him into a fiercely ideological individual. When his education was completed at the age of 14 he returned home. At home his father sought to turn his now educated son into a powerful noble as he was. A renowned swordsman and cunning negotiator his father instructed him well in the arts of swordplay, tactics, and diplomacy. But through all this time the young Andius continued to study "The Birth of Light and Truth" and grew even more ideological. Though the eldest child of his family Andius decided rather than to succeed his father as the head of House Meuridiar that he would instead return to the temple of Sarenrae and join the clergy. Recognizing his prowess in battle and leadership potential he was made an assistant to an older missionary who spent much time traveling to spread the word of Sarenrae, offer her redemption, and protect the innocent from those who could not be redeemed. When his mentor became too old to continue on with such works, Andius decided to broaden the scope. He began working to bring together people to form an elite force dedicated to good works, and the eventual goal of uniting good and expelling evil from Golarion. Purely dedicated to good and beholden to no single nation or even deity, Andius chose a simple name for his force that he hoped they might some day live up to. The Great Legionnaires. The members of his organisation that might one day be comprised of great legions driving back the darkness like a raging fire.

Looking forward to seeing this company in action

I'll talk this concept over with my friends. Consider it highly likely I will join up, or at the least be an allied company of scouts and rangers funneling goods.

If I join, expect two characters (minimum) to join:

Paltiel Elad, Half Elf Paladin of Abadar. Defends the weak with a passion, utterly despises oath breakers. Less focused on slaying evil than ensuring his allies survival.

An As Yet Un-named Elf crafter. Finds a near divine joy in creating items, especially weapons.

Goblin Squad Member

@Alexander_Damocles, if you decide to start up your own company, and are interested, please check out the Diplomatic Outreach post from The Seventh Veil. We are very interested in establishing relationships with as many other Companies as we can. We already have a relationship with Andius.

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

Noted. To be honest, my friends and I were looking at a company that was a practical blend of both your companies from the start. By being independent contractors who works with both, I could see that working out nicely.

Goblin Squad Member

Just so you know, we are already allied with the Seventh Veil and intend to help secure their interests. I was originally planning to make our most major pet project an academy to teach new players the game and depending upon how detailed the world is do research and compile information.

However when Forencith told me about The Seventh Veil I just allied them instead. No point to focus much effort on an academy when there is a clan dedicated to that pursuit.

The Great Legionnaires will put A LOT of effort into protecting the Seventh Veil from any threat that rises up against them though, and if our members want to take part in their activities I will be glad to allow them to take part in any activity the Seventh Veil will permit them to unless it somehow violates GL rules.

So I would be glad to have you and your friends Alexander. If you aren't already using another voice chat on another game I would be glad to hook you up with our Teamspeak info so you could use it while playing together.

I currently don't use teamspeak, as my primary game hours are when sane people are asleep. That may change in the future. What games do you lot currently play? If there are any commonalities, I'll try to join in and get to know the crew.

At the moment I am jumping around a lot. Mainly EVE, I gave Tribes Accent a go but wasn't super fond of it. Before EVE I was playing Mortal and I'm kind of missing Neverwinter Nights and Wurm Online.

I really want to give Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 a shot when they come out, and I am in the process of trying to retrieve my Guild Wars account.

Really though. I'm not married to any game. I'll play enjoys the most popular support. There is one other applicant who applied by PM who said he wants to try D3 and GW2 as well.

Oh and also as stated in the Guild rules, while Teamspeak is a requirement, a microphone is not. In the early stages especially it will be kind of important as its somewhere we can get together and talk if we aren't all in game together but feel free to just plug in some headphones and type stuff out to us. I know a lot of the time I will as well if I need to be quiet for some reason.

Gotcha. My limited game time right now is centered on various RPG's, but mostly spent reading up on various PnP systems for adaptation to my homegame. And strategy games. Let me know what yall end up playing, and I'll try to budget for the game.

Will do. Well that being said Diablo 3 is at this point the most likely as it will be out soon and its free after the initial cost. I'm trying to lean away from games with a monthly fee unless there is huge demand for one because I don't want people to have to invest a bunch in a placeholder game. If you run any online Pathfinder campaigns though that might be a REALLY fun way to kick things off, and could easily be run in addition to whatever other game we want to play.

Also which RPGs and Strategy games do you play? And are there any games your friends are leaning toward?

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

Currently running a pathfinder campaign based on building a town in the river kingdoms (which was started 2 weeks before Goblin Works was announced. Much "SQUEEE!" was at the game table), using pathfinder with a pinch of the Dresden Files RPG. Also played Dark Heresy off and on. RPGs, I tend towards things such as KOTOR, Dragon Age, the Persona series....anything with a bloody good story that hooks me. Strategy, give me a Sci-Fi strategy game, and I'll play it. Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire, Sword of the Stars. Of course, then there are more traditional RTS, and I'm not opposed to FPS games as well. It all depends on what I've got the time for.

The Government of The Great Legionnaires

The Great Legionnaires is lead by a powerful head with a supporting group of decision makers known as the General and Council. ((In past games these were called the Emperor and the Senate.)) While all GL are encouraged to let their voice be heard in matters of policy only the council can directly vote on issues concerning the company. This is to minimize the impact low ranking spies could have on the company, and ensure those voting are higher ups who are familiar with policy and have access to all the information that could impact their decision. It is the duty of those who accept a council position to inform themselves on the issues they are voting on.

The council has power over any major issue which we have time to decide on. The making an breaking of contracts and alliances. Changes in policy or clan structure. Major investments of clan funds. And peace negotiations. (Though no Great Legionnaire ever has the authority to surrender or accept an unfavorable peace treaty.) The power to declare war or make major tactical decisions is a shared power between the council and general. If the general feels that no immediate action is necessary and there is time to discuss things, the council will decide the issue, but if immediate action is necessary the general may make the decision himself.

Getting promoted to the council is a matter of impressing those currently on it. At any point someone may join the council by getting two thirds of the council to agree on their promotion. Any council member may be removed by a two thirds majority as well. Generally getting promoted to the council is a recognition of a members dedication and a show of trust that they can handle the authority being given to them.

Currently as the general I am the only acting council member. This gives me the two/thirds majority I need to promote a new council member as soon as someone proves their maturity and dedication.

Could I suggest myself to the council then? I suppose it might even fit my character, being the spy-like / information guy to know stuff. Or, if not directly in the council, some form of an advisor or councellor to one of the council people?

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

Ehh, you know what? I'll join in. If in, I'll do my part for the Legion, but also work on scouting ETC. For the honor of chapter!

The suggestion is noted but I'm not ready to promote council members just yet. I want to let us get together and play some games for awhile and then I'll take note of things like maturity, natural leadership potential, and contribution to the company.

There will be plenty of opportunity to make a council seat long before PFO goes live though.

The Balanced Scales are always looking for martial companies who can assist in transporting valuable goods through hostile environments. Would the Great Legionnaires be interested in such an alliance?

Absolutely. While we will be helping those in true need regardless of their ability to pay or not, but true need doesn't really cover guarding your caravans or being the primary sources of your settlement's protection.

A business arrangement would though. And could provide valuable protection to you, and a valuable source of revenue for us.

I can certainly see us working together in the future.

You guys make so much sense to me. Evil doers need to be punished. They need to be pursued ruthlessly to whatever corner of the land they may hide in and be brutally mangled and killed. Then their families! People really need to get along better, and I'm so happy to see others like me who are willing to go around and punish evil without any mercy whatsoever! Yes! Concerned citizens watching out for each other is a wonderful thing!

Goblin Squad Member

I like the sound of this company! I would be honored to join. Depending on how the class builds end up, I will be playing primarily a marshal character (fighter/cavalier type). Riding out to battle with a group of like minded individuals sounds perfect to me.

As far as current gaming goes, I unfortunately do not have extensive amounts of time to play. The only major online/group game I play right now is League of Legends, which I would be happy to teach to others if a group member would like to learn.

Goblin Squad Member

Cavaliers. If only those end up in this game fairly early on. Could be a very fun class to play.

But anyway, welcome to the party! I've never actually tried LoL. Looks a lot like DotA to me. Might be worth a try.

Goblin Squad Member

Yes, I doubt cavalier will make it into the first release, unfortunately. But either way I am sure there will be skill/feat options to spec yourself towards a cavalier type character, which is my first planed route (then comes the ranger!). Anyway, good to see like-minded people here in the community already.

LOL is a moba, and its not for everyone, but I enjoy the game (despite the come-what horrible community). I am more of a casual player of the game, but anyone who is interested in learning the ropes can feel free to hit me up.

Crap you found the loophole in the charter!

Yeah that was a typo... It was meant to say either for good, or against evil.

I was at the market yesterday, and I saw that fish prices had gone up. Again! So evil! So very very evil! There's an EVIL conspiracy trying to drain hard earned coin from my pocket.

So I took your cause to heart, Andius, and I started punishing evil doers. But not before following them home so I could punish their EVIL families too!

The Great Legionnaires and Paid Contracts:

So as the only real company dedicated to military type tasks yet announced we have had people contacting us about providing protection for their various operations.

So I would kind of like to operate how this clan is going to be interacting with companies, individuals, and kingdoms who need our support.

First off we are only going to be working alongside companies and individuals we view as good or neutral. A company or individual known for acts such as the random slaughter of innocent people, making war against peaceful or righteous nations, or helping spread the control of tyrannical governments will NOT receive our assistance. Even if they offer generous compensation.

Second off we are not primarily a mercenary organisation. We aren't going to sit back and let those in need suffer because they cannot compensate us for our services. If we are able to march to war to assist anyone against powerful and corrupt factions, if we see someone being harassed by ruffians or bandits, if we recognize someone is in dire need of our help, we will simply give it. No compensation necessary. That is the primary purpose of our company.

However the primary purpose of our company is not to make sure that neutral and good clans don't need to hire their own security forces, caravan guards, and deal with their threats like goblin raids and nearby bandit camps. We may come and help if the situations gets out of hand but we expect people to deal with their own day to day problems themselves. This is where forming a contract or hiring us as mercenaries comes in.

With general day to day activities we will accept contracts to do things we don't view as part of our regular responsibilities like guarding wagons, destroying the camps of hostile creatures and otherwise securing an area etc.

Also as a faction intent on supporting good and upholding peace, sworn to uphold our word we will be glad to act as a neutral party or middleman in things like: negotiations between enemy factions, major trade deals, officiating competitions.

Examples of this may be: Two parties wish to meet together and resolve a dispute in a safe environment. They would be welcome to do so in our fort surrounded by our forces confident that we would not betray them or allow the other party to do violence upon them

Two parties wish to trade control of a settlement. Rather than one side paying and the trusting control to be given to them, or one side giving control and then trusting that they would be paid, one side could give us the money, and one side could give us control of the settlement, so that we can make sure the transfer happens smoothly. If either side did not go through, the other side would receive their money, or control of the settlement back.

In some cases we may offer these services for free. Such as encouraging two factions to come negotiate in our city in the interest of peace. In other cases we may charge a small fee, such as a fee we would charge for most middleman services.

Feel free to post here about possible contracts upon game release or other diplomatic issues such as alliances

I really can't say whether you would enjoy it or not.

In normal mode it is pretty darn easy, but as you get into the harder modes the bosses have some frustratingly difficult abilities and abilities combo. Like they might have the "Jailer" ability that allows them to freeze you in one spot for a second or two and "Mortar" ability that allows them to shoot massively damaging fireballs at the location you are standing all on the same monster.

It makes it very difficult to survive sometimes and it seems like the game is really built to punish melee classes with not many abilities meant to counter ranged classes that don't hurt melee classes almost just as bad.

That being said the challenge can be interesting and fun and even with some of the broken combos if you are REALLY on your toes and have a good build that you know well, you can still manage to scrape by.

If that sounds interesting to you I would give it a try. If not I understand.

Just so the everyone is aware. We are looking to coordinate our "placeholder game" with the Seventh Veil. They are at the moment our only official ally and I thought this would be a good opportunity for us to solidify our relations and get to know each other.

If you want to take part in the discussion we are having let me know.

Speaking of that we have started officially testing placeholder games with the 7th Veil.

Currently testing Saga of Ryzom. After that we will be testing Lord of the Rings Online. Testing for each game lasts 3 days but we are letting Ryzom drag on a bit longer while the wheels get in motion.

In order to get another game slated for testing it first needs to be suggested, and then receive 4 more votes of support. If you want your voice heard on what we play, now is the time to speak up. PM me for the info you need to do that.
