Paladin Feats, or Prerequisites you'll never meet

Advice

Hi guys, I'm currently playing a Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) in the Council of Thieves AP. We're on our way to level 3 and so far the adventure's been great. Now, I'm a big fan of the Pathfinder Paladin but I found something that I need to work around. That is, Feats.
An awful lot of combat feats have INT 13 or DEX 13 as a prerequisite, which I don't meet (and have no chance of meeting in the foreseeable future, as I'm going to raise my STR and CHA).
Can you recommend some good feats that are actually affordable for a Paladin?
I'm playing mine as a classic sword'n'board Paladin of Iomedae, he's more focused on defending others than dealing damage. My DM lets me use Lay On Hands with the shield hand, just so you know before someone points that out. But this isn't important, as we can make this thread into a general "Good Paladin Feats" instead of focusing it on my character.

Me, I found that Antagonize seems to be really good (I'm using it with Diplomacy and not Intimidate, so it's good but not completely broken).
Also, Shield Focus seems to give a nice little bonus.
I don't know how much shield bashing is worth it.

As a general rule its a good idea to try and meet prerequesites for feats you want during character creation.

As to good feats: extra lay on hands.

Of course, but INT and DEX can both be dump stats for Paladins, so in general it'll be harder for them to afford feats from those lines.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Shield Bashing is very much not worth it unless you're Two-Weapon Fighting with it, which you aren't.

Power Attack is a must have for any melee character, damage focused or not, and will potentially let you get some maneuver Feats if you like (of the available options, I'd only ever grab Sunder, and probably not even that, but it's an option).

Extra Lay On Hands is a very nice Feat, and as an Oath of Vengeance Paladin can also be converted into more Smite Evil. It can be taken multiple times.

Step Up is a wonderful Feat to keep spellcasters and archers from stepping away from your AoO, even if you can't take that Feat tree any farther.

The Eldritch Heritage Feat line for some Bloodlines is borderline broken for many Paladins, and may well be worth your time and efforts.

At higher levels Fearless Aura might be cool, and Greater Mercy IS cool, while Ultimate Mercy is potentially awesome.

ironically, the abysmal bloodline feats offers a lot to paladins (strength of the abyss)
also, the infernal wildblood ability tough as hell (boosts your con) through the same feats. choose your poison.

The orc bloodline is probably the best of the bunch if you have access to it. (Orcs of Golarion.)

Adept Champion can be a good choice for a pally, if you're interested in performing combat manuevers.

I'd recommend Alignment Channel, Channel Smite, and maybe Greater channel smite for a standard paladin, but since the Oath of Vengeance archetype removes the ability to channel energy, you don't qualify for any of them.

Greater Mercy can be useful if you're doing a fair amount of healing for the party, in that it makes your Lay on Hands last longer if folks aren't suffering from anything that your mercy can deal with.

Reward of Grace and Reward of Life (both from Ultimate Magic) can add nifty little effects to your lay on hands (self healing when you heal others and attack bonuses).

Word of Healing lets you use your Lay on Hands from a distance, which may be useful to you if you're running into undead (given that you don't get channel energy).

I'd recommend the Orc bloodline feats, as well. If you take them all the way, they're worth a +12 bonus to strength and increase your size to large.
