Are you kidding me? Mr. Mona is attending Ropecon? Wow... Erik, if you do, please visit the mobile library parked outside the convention center (Dipoli).
I might also be found inside the convention center, but we're all wearing 'HelMet' (=Helsinki Metropolitan Area libraries) t-shirts and plastic helmets, so we should be easy to spot. It would be really cool if you had the time to drop by and say hello! :)

Yep, Erik is heading over to the land of ice and snow. The con is right before GenCon, so treat him well. We need our Publisher in good enough shape so he can attend to his GenCon duties. I know Erik is really looking forward to the trip!

What happens in Finland stays in Finland. But I quess we'll release him mostly unharmed so he'll be able to attend to some Gencon duties.

Of course we will! And fortunately for Erik, most of the ice and snow has already melted -- in fact, it's likely going to be quite hot at the end of July in Finland! :)
@Erik: the book mobile features really cool fantasy-themed art; you just can't miss it. And we're also running RPGs and board games inside the convention center (this is actually the first year we're officially attending Ropecon) but feel free to drop by any time on friday or saturday. You'll naturally recognise me by my fierce dwarven looks and brimstone-smelling beard! :D
Here and here are a couple of pictures of the book mobile called 'Haave' ('Dream' in English).

Woah. That's pretty cool.
I'm very excited to make this trip. We're going to hit St. Petersburg for three days before we head to Finland. Should be quite an adventure!
I think it will be; just remember to be careful with vodka -- Russians have an unnatural tolerance to alcohol, and even we Finns have trouble keeping up with them. If you toast with them, take it easy; otherwise it won't take long for you to get hammered! ;)
@Gorbacz: Hah, it's the thrill of adventure; who cares about warm or fuzzy, when you can wrestle polar bears and drunken rednecks (at the same time) in an arctic environment? ;D
@feytharn: No, it's because of this! :D

Is this considered to be a vacation trip or actually a working trip (attending the con)? ;)
As an afterthought: Any chance of someone of the Paizo staff visiting central Europe in the near future?
Last year's visit was very much appreciated by folks here. And in the meantime at least PF in Germany seems to have attracted quite some new players who would love to meet some of you guys in person. Paizocon is too far (and too early - before vacation time over here).
Cheers,
Guenther

Erik, I'm not sure about your schedule, but I forgot to mention that we will be at Ropecon only on friday and saturday; I'm not 100% sure of this, but I *think* we'll be present on friday from noon to 5 PM, and on saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Hopefully our timetables match, and you'll drop by to say hello! :)
I have to admit I wouldn't mind meeting Frank, either! :)

I doubt I'll see much of Mr. Mona, tied with the GM desk as I am, but it will be damned nice to see a Paizonian in Finland anyway. Not to mention seeing the results of the scenario writing contest, what with Mona, Mentzer and Raggi overseeing the competition, should be awesome! These are some swell guys.
You're heartily welcome to Finland. Rest assured though, Espoo region is far less hot as the rest of the country. I should know, I'm a lumberjack.!

Don't worry, Asgetrion, he should have a couple of gaps in his schedule. I should know, I was up until two o'clock with the speech program team hammering it out some weeks back. He will even have time to eat!
Personally, I'm thrilled to have Erik Mona at Ropecon, along with Frank Mentzer. Organizing this convention has been all kinds of exciting.
We promise to return him in good shape, though we will do our best to make Gen Con seem like a pale shadow in comparison.
In addition to our magnificent guests of honour, we also have all kinds of other attractions, such as these Danish game masters who are running a roleplaying game with a cake-eating rules mechanic. Also, the most Finnish RPG releases in a single year, ever, including the English translation of the Stalker RPG.

Hey Erik,
Not sure how much of a board game fan you might be but I know Ropecon will have a demo for the space empire building game Eclipse! I haven't heard if there will be a demo at GenCon or not (it'll be at the Asmodee booth there if they manage to get their demo copy in time).
I've been following the game's development all spring being a big fan of space 4X games (such as Twilight Imperium or Race for the Galaxy). So if you're into these sort of games check it out and safe travels to you both!

Ropecon 2011
I’m glad to hear that, Jukka!
You guys have been very understading, flexible and forthcoming towards us, and we’re truly grateful for that! I'm pleased and excited that we are able to participate in Ropecon, and I think it will be a great convention this year! :)

Ropecon 2011 was an absolutely amazing event! I was so pleased to meet so many creative and friendly gamers. It was definitely one of the most special convention appearances I have ever made, and I will bring home memories that will last a lifetime.
Everyone involved with Ropecon should be enormously proud.
Simply put, it is one of the best game conventions in the world!
(Now I'm off to get ready for the after party at the sauna!)

Ropecon was especially great comvention this year for me too. So muvh interesting topics and of course guests of honor and their shows were the main part for me. Mr. Mona and Mr. Menzer are great men and I must come to Gen Con or Paizo Con in coupkle of years to meet them again.
I want to thank Mr. Mona for coming to Ropecon. Hopefully you will share picture of you wearing Ropecon t-shirt in Paizo blog. ;)

That was clearly the best Ropecon I have ever been. Kings of Absalom was amazing, one of the best roleplaying sessions I have ever been in, even if my character was brutaly smashed by a crit from a warhammer (poor Maruug!). Meeting Mr. Mona was great, and now I got a signed Inner sea guide and The Harrowing-modules at home :D
The panel discussions with Mr. Mona, mr. Mentzer and the reast were really interesting! I'm starting to save some money for the trip to the Gencon or/and to Paizocon!
Life is good.

Too bad Kings of Absalom filled so quickly..
Yeah, that was shame as I too was interested about this. My friends got to play and they were hyped after it. But instead of playing Kings of Absalom I watched Frank Menzer to kill ~20 player character's in ~1.5 hours. It was great fun too! Tower of Gygax (or Tower of Menzer but Mr. Menzer called it Tower of Gygax) can be brutal but in same time all players and audience had great time watching how chararacters will die or how they try to survive.
Beware moving tables those things kill people!

I was watching both Mona and Mentzer to lead tables and it was interesting to see how the game has changed in decades. I still prefer the Pathfinder, but Mentzer really made many people involved by killing characters here and there, and thus making room for new people to join the table. Very generous of him!
I strongly dislike word "fan", but I was really glad to get Mr Monas autography to my (again) un-used Society character sheet. Maybe next year..

Completely agreed, dear oracle. Kirol would agree too, if he wasn't stuck in the duergar dungeons under the Inner Sea. Kings of Absalom was awesome. That encounter design...*shivers*
After party was rather pleasing as well, just came back from there. I hope one else except the host climbed to the roof. :D Especially not Mona, even though they kept shoving a bottle into his hands.
Only unfortunate thing was that the next 'Con can't possibly be this cool, due to the fact that it was easily the best ever. It's simply out of the question. Sad tidings for all!
Thanks again, Erik, hope I get to play at your table again some day.

And the chanting of those cultist-that was so awesome.Or the dwarven "prince" :D. Great DM:ing, I learned a lot that day about acting out the NPC:s that day.

Yeah, Erik's tables filled up pretty much immediately. I am glad I got to play with him, even though I was at -8 and stable for half the game. There's a good story there, and I'll post it later.
Frank's final kill count during the con is somewhere in the high forties. The last character to be slain was our security chief's fighting man, who had his face smashed in by an ogre in yesterday's staff game.
The con was awesome. I am simply in awe. It was the very best of conventions, and my only real regret is that I fear no con will ever be as good.

I agree; I'm in awe, too. This was my first Ropecon, and it was a blast! I'd have loved to play in 'Kings of Absalom', but I was so tied up that it just wasn't possible (I *did* get to play Runequest, and a new Finnish RPG called Bliaron). I also met a lot of great people -- including Erik and Frank -- both at the con and the after party. As you said, it's hard to imagine it getting better than this.
I feel this convention was an overwhelmingly positive experience for the HelMet library, too. Once again, huge thanks for all the Ropecon organizers (yourself included, Jukka!) for your support, kindness and openness! I promise to do my best to get us to participate next year as well. :)
