Ultimate Magic... Delayed?

Product Discussion

Did anyone else use Amazon to order their copy of Ultimate Magic? It was scheduled for a May 19th ship date and I just received an email stating that the book was delayed until July 14th. Obviously this isn't true, as people have their copies now, but I was curious if anyone else ordered from Amazon and got the same email.

Thanks!

Yep, got that email. If it really takes that long to ship I'll have to change the order, but maybe they'll surprise me with a sooner appearance. Meanwhile I bought the pdf from Paizo so I can still get familiar with it even though I don't get to enjoy the dead tree version.

Yeah I feel like it has to be an error, as that seems like an arbitrarily long delay for a book that was pre-ordered, so probably isn't out of stock.

More than likely it is out of stock.

Amazon will order for all their pre-orders, and then some.

However, they are ordering it from a distributor, not from Paizo. The distributor puts in an order to Paizo.

So, what has likely happened is this :

Paizo ran off 100,000 copies (SWAG)
Distributor A ordered 30,000 copies
Distributor B ordered 40,000 copies
Distributor C ordered 15,000 copies
Paizo kept 15,000 copies for their own sales

Distributor C had an order for 5,500 copies from Amazon
Distributor C had orders from other customers totaling 15,000.

Distributor C doesn't have 20,000 books, so they send a percentage to everyone, so Amazon got 4,000 books. Unfortunately, they have 5,000 pre-orders. So they put the other 1,000 people on back order until Distributor C sends them their other 1,500 books.

I got the same thing and I had preordered right from when it first went up there. I tried calling but did not get anywhere so I just canceled mine and ordered it here. I ran into the same issue when 4th edition was coming out and I did not get my books from Amazon for 6 weeks.

Also of note:

The distributor Amazon buys from, Diamond, releases new items on Tuesday. Paizo releases new items on Wednesday. So, Diamond will release their new Paizo items the Tuesday after Paizo releases them. Which means that Amazon won't have them on release day.

A few days before release date, Amazon's algorithms will say, "Huh, we don't have this book that's releasing on Wednesday in stock. Let's push the release date back a month."

Viola. Amazon says that the product isn't available and is releasing a month late.

Cool, thanks for the reply, gentlemen and ladies. I have an unwavering loyalty to Amazon due to getting books for class at over half off and free two-day shipping, and this is the first time anything has been delayed for me, including pre-ordered materials. Odd to see so many people in different threads who have had bad experiences with them or hold them some grudge.

Just curious, is there a reason Paizo doesn't release items on Tuesdays?

It's an industry thing. If our primary market were bookstores, we would have Tuesday releases, but our primary market is hobby stores. Many hobby stores also carry comic books, and new comics have been released on Wednesdays for many years, so hobby stores therefore have their big stocking days on Wednesdays.

Ok so I know this has probably been talked about and poured over countless times, but i think there is a serious problem with amazon a few book that are out and will be released soon have a release date on amazon.com of mid January 2012. One case in point is the new Carrion Crown(already have and love it.)it has a release date of Jan 10 2012, so... WTF mates???

That's more of a question for Amazon to answer... They appear to love to randomly assign future release dates on upcoming products, and don't always get new products in and stocked in a timely manner.
