One of my players a big hook now other than doing what Allustan says, instead of getting clues over time. I dont want to drop the info on Dragotha or Kyuss yet, so I guess I need a false hook. I am willing to alter the story.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry - the paragraph does not quite make sense. I think your missing a key word.

Oops, that was badly written.

One of my players wants the big hook now other than doing what Allustan says, instead of getting clues over time*. I dont want to drop the info on Dragotha or Kyuss yet, so I guess I need a false hook. I am willing to alter the story. I think its easier to put out a fake hook than to think of a legitimate reason to go where I want them to go if they already know about more about Kyuss than they do now.

*The games basically has the heroes in react mode until they start to go after Kyuss which starts around chapter 7ish.

So what you are saying is that your player(s) want a real 'campaign hook' to get them going. Where are you in the campaign so far?

In my campaign the PCs knew about Kyuss from the beginning (it was a personal quest of one of the PCs, given to him in a tribal vision). I don't think it is a problem to have them know the name Kyuss, there is just no real information to be found about him (the adventure 'Library of the Last Resort' explains that practically all information about Kyuss was taken from the world). So giving away the Kyuss hook as such is no big problem.

You can use different stages in the campaign to provide the PCs with little extra tidbits of info on Kyuss to create a completer picture of their enemy.

Chapter 2: Three faces of Evil.

Right outside of the door leading to the cult ran by Theldrick. I had an idea of having one of them get bitten by an undead, and to get rid of the infection they have to find the cure, but that would lead to them spending money on restorations unless I made it very slow acting. They don't have any family for me to kidnap either.

Well, obviously the first hook you could provide is the 'Overgad' hook of the Ebon Triad; in combination with the green worm hook that needs further exploring.

I guess I could build that up as something that is actually possible. Their characters, 3 out of 5 are actually a bunch of selfish adventurers and if they don't benefit them it does not matter. I think stopping some cult from combining 3 gods that will basically end existence as they know it is a good hook.

The Ebon Triad is the ultimate red herring hook in the adventure. Push disbanding this secret organization as the hook and I think that would work. This way they think they are going to be doing something that is pretty interesting (ferreting out Ebon Triad cells) without realizing how truly epic the quest ends up being as it turns out the Ebon Triad was a patsy all along. I have built in small cells of the Triad in a number of other cities (I am not running in Greyhawk) to continue the ruse that the Ebon Triad is the real villain.
