I read about it in #326 and was wondering what people thought. I heard good things about it at Origins and Gen Con, but wasn't able to go this year.

I saw it at Origins and I really liked it. It doesn't give HUGE amounts of new info, but it is funny, and I didn't know hardly anything about LARPers before I saw it. I think it is really good for getting people who haven't played in a while to play again, or lure people over who are thinking about it but haven't quite decided to play yet. I know when I was leading the theater I heard one guy mention he wasn't going to go home and start playing D&D again. There is a character in there called Bronco who cracks me up.

EXCELLENT flick. Kind of like a "Trekkies" for RPGers. I liked the fact that they interviewed older and (apparently) professiopnal gamers, as opposed to 13 yr olds. And of course, they interview the Great and Powerful Gygax himself. Generally a positive view of our fanatical obsession, er, hobby. Theweb site is http://ubergoobermovie.com/.

I liked this movie, too. The movie breaks gaming down neatly into three categories; miniatures gamers, role-players, and live-action role-players. So, the film comes across as a descent into madness.
The miniatures gamers seem like failry normal folks, almost kinda stuffy. The role-players are odd, and in some cases so strange it is uncomfortable to watch them. The LARPers seem the most strange. There is a hilarious unscripted scene where a bunch of LARPers arrive in a city park and the regular folks, out tossing frisbees, just leave. The LARPers do seem to be having the most fun, I must admit.
In fact, a lot of the movie is just downright funny. Some of the gamers are interviewed with their faces obscured and their voices altered because they don't want people to know their "dark secret". One of the D and D players interviewed is a police officer who leads a secret D and D gamer life.
The next time you get stopped for speeding, tell the officer "If I make a successful Persuade check, and cast Charm Person, what happens?". Maybe you will just get a warning because he is a gamer too.
Probably not.
It is also nice to see a movie about gaming and gamers that is done professionally. The music, lighting, and film quality are really nice. There are lost of clips from popular culture (scenes from Mazes and Monsters, scenes from the Simpsons) that punctuate what most people think about the gamer subculture.
So, get this movie and watch it with your gamer buddies. I guarantee you will be entertained. This movie is destined to be a cult classic.

I saw it at Origins and then I bought the DVD. Some of the characters are really funny. The LARPing battle was probably my favorite. The Gygax stuff was cool too.

Hopefully, this film will be at A-Kon. The guys I'm going with are big RPG folks.
