Skald + Stonelord in same party?

Advice

I am about to play a Pathfinder game and I am playing a Stonelord Paladin archetype and my wife is going to be a Skald. Well, the Skald has Raging Song and in a few levels, I will have Defensive Stance and these two powers don't stack. It makes me kind of sad for two of our most useful powers to be mutually exclusive, at least as far as my character goes.

Is there any advice anybody can give as to how to play this - either from a character design perspective or tactics to use that will allow me to get the most out of Defensive Stance and Raging Song?

Once your wife starts to get rage powers to give out while her raging song is active you'll get some nice goodies. On top of that you can't move while in defensive stance so if your wife beats you on initiative you're likely to at least have a small bonus to your attack and damage until you can get into a good position for defensive stance.

Well, my first thought is to rely on the Raging Song, which gives me more tactical flexibility, until either she starts to get low on Raging Song or I get into a situation where I can be pretty confident that I won't need to move. That might leave me not using my Defensive Stance as much as I might, but I also won't need to worry as much about not moving either.

Another related issue is that our other party members are a Strength dumped Swashbuckler and a crossbow wielding Rogue. We're just hoping that the only person benefitting from Raging Song won't just be the Skald.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Take a look at the spell warrior archetype for skald. This replaces inspired rage with weapon song, this song enchants the party's weapons instead of granting rage, but tbe wielders of tbe weapons still get rage powers.

Liberty's Edge

Spell Warrior would definitely be a good choice for this party.

If you are using Unchained rage powers then another option would be 'Calm Stance'. If the Skald included this with their inspired rage each party member should be able to choose whether to use normal rage or calm stance.

Agree on spell warrior. She can hand out a lot of nifty fun while you can still be the block of stone you're meant to be. It's a great combo that works well.

I've looked at spell warrior and the magic weapon thing seems pretty good for us. Though my wife is really sad over the idea of losing spell kenning at level 5, so feels conflicted
