We shall see what lottery events I will be able to participate in based on the schedule. Hopefully, I will get to participate in a couple of them (ACG Open, We Be Goblins, Out of Reitrment) but I am not worried either way.
Congratulations Calthaer!!
I do have a question concerning the 4 scenarios mentioned. Will these be restricted from being run until after Paizocon as in previous seasons where the 4 scenarios released around Paizocon are not allowed to be run. Thanks.

With the exception of Serpents' Ire the scenarios referenced in this blog are expected to release at their usual times: the last Wednesday of their respective months. We're working to get PaizoCon GMs the May adventures a little earlier than that for preparation purposes.

Thanks John. I was not sure if we would be allowed to run the April releases in our local areas before Paizocon.

In fact, the product pages for those scenarios and the rest of Season 7 are now up on the website.

It appears that part one of the new Seeker Arc is being run at PaizoCon. If this is the case, does that also mean that the new Seeker Arc will also be offered at GenCon?
The first part of the new All for Immortality seeker arc will be available by PaizoCon, but we don't have it scheduled for that convention. We decided it would be best to provide it at a convention once all of the parts were ready so that a group could play it from beginning to end. It is the plan to provide a few tables of it at Gen Con 2016.

Thank you for entertaining my curiosity! Man, I would kill to run the Seeker Arc at GenCon. Also, I forgot to say it in my previous post, but that bit of art for what I'm guessing is probably some sort of div-spawn Tiefling from Thuvia looks super awesome!
It may well be that, but it's not unique to the upcoming arc - it originates in Inner Sea Races (on page 159). ^_^

Man, you guys are really hyping up our We Be Goblins game! I really hope it doesn't disappoint! (I don't think it will... the scenarios really are very fun! There's even a minor PvP aspect to it because... GOBLINS!)
I figure I'll tease the other characters designed for those games here:
I'm sure you've all been waiting with bated breath to hear how Mogmurch the murderous goblin alchemist will play in these games! He's of course excellent at using alchemical items, able to discard them instead of banishing them. But he can also use his Craft skill for combat checks, and after a feat gets to heal back an Alchemical card when he does so!
There is one more new character available for this game: TUP THE TERRIBLE! He's a Sorcerer/Bard, and so he has an interesting (and eclectic) set of powers. He gets to add an extra d6 to his checks after he casts a Fire spell, and he's really good at defeating barriers, using prestidigitation to disable them from afar (or just blow them up with some fire). Finally, he can gain the Divine skill using a feat, so his versatility knows no bounds!
The final character option for this game is Ekkie, and just to entice someone to use her, we've made her a special Ally... her brother Plarg (or at least, what's left of him...)!
I hope you guys have a TON of fun playing these scenarios at PaizoCon 2016, and if it's popular I'll make ABSOLUTELY sure I can get to PaizoCon 2017 to run them again!

I've already talked to Tyler about adapting a Kobold party adventure.
I've got my fingers crossed I can participate in the Open at GenCon this year.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit it in depending on volunteering. Might put that on the top of my list this year. It would be cool to see if we can put together some of our group in the open.

Just in case they should already, none of the new scenarios yet show which (if any) faction plotlines they advance.

I contend that Goblins is best, but Kobolds are a close second. :)

In Society play proper, if the 'evil' were relaxed for either race, kobolds traditionally would be better, imo, coming from a 'Lawful' background versus a 'Chaotic' one.
The selling points of kobolds are a lot of different tiny things, but literacy is a very keen thing, even if they use Draconic.

Respect Master Jedi Calthaer!
To see however Hawk as your Padawan, hard time do I have.
:-)
Only in building turntables; when it comes to knowing the rules of the game I defer completely to Hawkmoon. It's all about maximizing your comparative advantages - he's naturally very good at knowing every detail and I find memorizing the intricacies tedious.
Also, W00T! Congrats as well to the HM and lackoffocus!

I was aware that retired scenarios occasionally get run by members of the PFS team, but having never been to PaizoCon didn't know it was a tradition at that Con. If the scenarios are updated to the Pathfinder rules set when they are run for these events do they still return to retirement afterwards?
rknop |
Thus far, they have been. Only one scenario (Mists of Mwangi) has been updated to Pathfinder and released. (And that was several years ago).
It'd be cool if eventually the "out of retirement" Season 0 scenarios were re-released publicly. However, I think there were often reasons why they were retired.....
(For instance, low tier of "Murder on the Silken Caravan" really ought to be retired. It's exceptionally deadly. The only reason I didn't have a TPK when I ran it was that (a) I played super-softie GM, and (b) one of the players didn't realize that UMD was a "trained only" skill, and I didn't realize she wasn't trained in it until after the scenario.)
TriOmegaZero |
My understanding is that the Out of Retirement scenarios do not get the full update treatmeant like Mists of Mwangi did. The staff member running the scenario uses the original document and makes notes of what changes they want to make to improve it. Those notes are kept in case the scenario is ever given the makeover in the future, but a lot more work is required to get them to the point that the team is comfortable re-releasing the scenario.
Belafon |
The "Retired" scenarios are ones that were removed for more reasons than just the mechanics conversion from 3.5 to Pathfinder. Sometimes it's a lore reason (a location, organization, or creature that is critical to the scenario has quite a different backstory in Pathfinder rules than 3.5). A lot of them were just way too deadly in actual play (a 5d6 fireball in Tier 1-2). Some were both.
So while updating Mists of Mwangi (or the other 3.5 scenarios still available) is a matter of updating the creatures the retired scenarios would require substantial rewrites for general release. As I understand it when these special events were run "out of retirement" there were no changes other than the update from 3.5 to Pathfinder mechanics. The odd lore and/or extreme deadliness remained.
