I Can See Clearly Now

Friday, May 1, 2015

We're now a little over a month away from the release of the Dungeons Deep set of Pathfinder Battles prepainted plastic figures, and I'm getting very excited! I can see the set clearly on the horizon, so today let's talk about some of the "clear" figures in the set!

Clear plastic is one of my very favorite "tricks" WizKids pulls to make our figures look incredible. From the elementals and incorporeal undead of past sets to a few knock-outs from Dungeons Deep, these figures always seem to deliver something special.

Here we have the Ochre Jelly, one of the deadliest oozes in the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary. You definitely don't want to get enveloped by one of these acidic bastards, that's for sure. The Ochre Jelly is a Large, uncommon figure, making it the first Large ooze we've yet created for the line. Best of all, the clear plastic of the Ochre Jelly allows us to take a peek at what he's been eating, as you can clearly see skeletal remains floating around inside him. Or it. I dunno how to sex a jelly.

The Daughter of Urgathoa appears on page 309 of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide hardcover. Clocking in at an imposing CR 8, the Daughter of Urgathoa are monstrous undead creatures "promoted" from Urgathoa's wickedest priestesses at the moment of their death. As the book says, "Even after their transformation into things of pestilence and dead flesh, Daughters of Urgathoa remain social beings who typically surround themselves with fanatical cults." We've already supplied lots of cultists (notably in The Lost Coast), so we thought it high time to add something worth idolizing to the line. The Daughter's diaphanous dress is a chilling blue clear plastic fading up into a dark black skirt. It looks gorgeous.

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up and meet the Pickled Punk, a disgusting little creature straight from the pages of Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 4! You may not have realized that you need a "deformed, often humanoid fetus raised by necromancers and stored in jars of embalming fluid" until now, but once you get a look at this adorable little rascal, you'll want to adopt him into your campaigns with no time to lose. Although the Pickled Punk is quite small relative to the other figures in the Dungeons Deep set (and especially when compared to the other figures in this week's preview), he is exceptionally gross, and rewards you with some new discovery each time you look at him (not unlike an adorable child). The contours of his skin folds mix with expert inking to create a hideous skin texture I really think you will enjoy. Here's looking at you, kid! The Pickled Punk is a Small, rare figure.

And that's it for this week. Be sure to check back next week for an early look at three more figures from the Dungeons Deep set!

In the meantime, please swing by my donation page for Paizo's team in this year's "The Gauntlet" Seattle area game company charity tournament. This year we're raising money for Hopelink, a great charity that helps homeless families, and your support will help the Paizo team get the edge it needs to retain the Gauntlet trophy, which we won last year. I've added some fun personal "thank-you" rewards to folks who participate, so if you're in a giving mood, please swing by the link and help us out if you can!

Thanks, and we'll see you next week!

Ilove the pickled punk!

When is the exact release date for DD - 10th of june?

4 minis are still unrevealed but i think we have seen all large ones (12 so far).

Will you show the 2 replacement minis king Irovetti and Feiya too?

Thx for your time and great selection of minis Eric!

I don't have any copies of the replacement minis, so I'm not currently able to post them. I'll ask around and see what I can pry loose.

Must have all three of these. This set is shaping up to be the best yet.

Give me a Hell Yeah! These are magnificent, but then I am a transparent plastic junkie. That Ochre Jelly is as wonderful as I hoped it would be, even better now that I can see the skeletal remains inside. Uncommon as well, so easy to get hold off, especially in light of its ability to split.

I assume the Daughter is rare? I like the design but I'm curiously a little cold on the colour scheme. I'm certain it works better in hand and the transparent effect is great.

Now the Punk. I so wanted this in plastic, form the moment I saw its artwork. As a small I admire the detail and work and understand the rarity. Wish it was uncommon, but I may be alone in that after all how often so you use a pickled foetus in your games? One small thing in my mind; I think the walls of his glass container and the fluid from within should have been a different colour, but overall colour me impressed.

Yes, sorry. The Daughter is definitely rare.

I think making the liquid and the glass different colors would have made the mini too expensive to do given some of the other ultra-expensive minis in the set, so alas that was not an option this time around.

Thought that might be the case. Don't get me wrong it a beautiful(?) mini and as I said one I wanted from the moment is saw it's art, I personally think you and wizkids do an amazing job on this line. In fact much in this set is want I really wanted. I seem to have been on good pasture since the last set. I got my Shamhazian, then the mi-go, elder thing, transparent ochre jelly etc.

Would you care to elaborate on the ultra expensive minis? Which ones? I understand this one given size and use of transparent plastic.

I counted 7 small minis, 22 medium minis and 12 large minis so far.

Additionally we have seen 5 of the 6 Dungeon Dressings
(all medium except the Iron Maiden which has to be large to be able to swallow a medium mini).

That means we still have either 1 small and 2 medium minis OR 3 medium minis unrevealed AND one Dungeon Dressing.

Personally i like the dressings because
a) they are on top of the 45 minis
b) we only get one (max 2) of each in a case
c) it´s great for flavor and transformations into mimics *evilgrin*

But in the next set i would really love to see chairs and tables or better yet a seperate set of 4 medium (1 square) chairs and 4 large (2 squares long) tables. ;-)

More great options here. Like I said before, this is turning into my favorite set so far. Wonderful stuff here.

I have to admit I was unsure of the Ochre Jelly when I saw the spoiler photos from the trade shows, but seeing it in clear photos and knowing the details, it is gone from "ok" to "I love it. :-)

I just realized that all 8 small minis have been revealed:

1 Bat Familiar
2 Chupacabra
3 Giant Tick
4 Goblin Archer
5 Mad Prophet
6 Nuglub Gremlin
7 Pickled Punk
8 Pukwudgie

That means the 3 missing minis are all medium ones.

The 12 large ones are:

01 Axe Beak
02 Bone Golem
03 Clockwork Golem
04 Daughter of Urgathoa
05 Dire Bat
06 Dire Boar
07 Emperor Cobra
08 Female Frost giant
09 Griffon
10 Ochre Jelly
11 Veiled Master
12 Ythian

I love all three of these minis. So far I am loving all the pieces in this set but one.

Is there any news about Iconic Heroes Set #4? Do we know yet if that is still happening?

I just got my Set #2 last week and I love them!

While I wouldn't mind a throne or something as a future dungeon dressing piece, I'm not so sure I'd love a table and chair set. While I definitely love the idea of a theme of that sort, regular furniture is the type of thing that makes more sense as a visible package.

Also, I've got another non-miniature idea for you to consider.

I'm aware that the Iconics are pretty popular among Pathfinder fans. And I seem to recall others saying they'd love bigger versions of the Iconics line so they could show them off as display pieces. Perhaps you could partner/license with a company and create a line of Iconics statues.

A company like Tweeterhead would probably be able to do the Pathfinder characters really well. Sideshow Collectibles is another company that (occasionally) puts out quality work. Perhaps a company like Pop Culture Shock would be able to do your heroes proud. I know that Jerry, the head of PCS, is always looking for a new and unique license that interests him. Finally, Kotobukiya does some really nice 1:6 & 1:7 scale plastic statues. They'd be a great company to partner with, too.

One final option could be Randy Bowen and Bowen Designs. They've lost their Marvel license and I've heard Randy is going through some personal issues at the moment. Perhaps when everything gets sorted out he'll be ready to make something new and different.

It's just something to think about...

So close.....I suspect my players will be meeting the archetypal Daughter of Urgathoa around about June. I just know it'll turn up about a week later. :(

Same... except in my campaign, the PC is dreading his own "ascension".

I need all jelly/slime monsters. I can only hope we get more soon.

Now I just need the rest of the subterranean monsters: Shroom/fungal stuff, cloaker, etc.

I hope we get an angelic themed set and a fae themed set before long. There are lots of figures for those I need.

This set is awesome.

Crap, now I think I *have* to become a minis subscriber... These look amazing!

The set looks great.

Pickled punk and ochre jelly are great additions. The Daughter of Urgathoa looks cool - but seems like one that will look better in hand.

It's veeeeeeeeery tempting to sign up for a subscription.

I'm still holding out, but my resistance is futile if the replacement minis are included and look as good as the rest of this set.

Any news about the future of the Iconics line?

It appears Set #3 is shipping this month. I assume there will be a small break before the next wave of sets, since I don't think we've heard anything yet. I was under the impression they were going to run through the Iconics in the other books.

And I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a high-quality LEM sometime soon.
