S(More) Story of the Season of the Shackles

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Hello, Pathfinders! The inaugural season of the Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild marches on, and I thought you might like an update on how the pirate PCs are progressing.

Avast, mateys! Story spoilers for Adventure #2 of the Season of the Shackles lurk below!

Love is in the air here in the Inner Sea, and the Lady of Tidewater Rock needs your help to choose a helpmeet! She's got a bevy of suitors, but her eye lingers on one "Heartbreak" Hinsin, apparently despite his ominous name. There are many who'd raise an objection at this proposed wedding, including the oh-so-charming Master Scourge, but you're around to help ensure that love conquers all. Surely Hinsin's heartbreaking days are over?

Having earned the lady's trust, you embark on a mission to deliver supplies to an isolated settlement badly in need of supplies. The hapless hamlet has fallen afoul of a tribe of marauding grindylows, and the tentacled little terrors (yuck) are intercepting all attempts to reach them. Lady Smythee has enlisted a ransacking goblin pirate and his weidling vessel to help you sneak up on the grindylow hideout. After a whole lot of really gross-looking monsters, and some truly incorrigible behavior from your goblin pirate ally, you manage to get relief to the settlement, and Lady Smythee rewards you generously.

Apparently, your reputation precedes you among the aquatic denizens of the Shackles, because a badly crippled fishfolk woman offers to handsomely reward you for enacting a little vengeance upon the sea devils who maimed her and stole her spawn. Pirates and revenge go hand in hand, so you eagerly set out to slaughter some sea devils and make a little old lady happy.

Back in the land of two-legged employers, "Heartbreak" Hinsin and Lady Smythee are sponsoring a wedding regatta, and the prize is a sweet new ship. The rules of the race: "Many men enter; one man leaves." Your uncle Mad Max would be proud. Will your doughty band of pirates have what it takes to take down the other sailors? You'll have to play to find out!

MOAR CARD SPOILERS

Are you implying that most people don't carry around bags of sticks?

Today you learned that Lini likes to whittle. She carries around a bag of wood from forests she's visited and whittles and polishes it. Our girl's a touch OCD.

My god likes me better than you.

From Iconic Heroes Set #2 comes a special blessing just for clerics, who know how to get every ounce of goodness out of a god's blessing.

Until next time, Pathfinders!

For a moment I had resigned myself to no blog post today. Then I saw this and I rejoiced greatly.

That is probably the second most powerful bag of sticks I've ever seen.

Blessing of Sarenrae that doesn't count towards your one of each type? I'm in!

Now I really need to know what the first is...

Nice spoilers!

Now, quick question since I'm sure it will come up with my Kyra player and I just want to make sure: does this special blessing count as a Blessing of Sarenrae for the purposes of Kyra's "recharge instead of discarding" power?

By how it is worded on both RotR and Class deck versions, it doesn't seem like it will count. Maybe WotR version Kyra can.

I still can't think of what that 37th card that doesn't have the Owner mechanic might be.

I'm wondering they'll change the wording to "a Blessing with the Sarenrae trait"

We do use the phrase "a blessing that has the Sarenrae trait" (or its equivalent) in various contexts. But we are unlikely to errata powers we've already tested solely to expand their focus, so RotR Kyra will remain as she is.

Adding to what Mike said: moving forward, yes, we've been doing that. Moving backward... we're sharks. We don't go backwards!

I notice this blessing cannot be recharged and does not have a Divine 5 check to acquire. Makes me excited to think about what other new ideas and variations we'll be seeing.

I notice that there are 2 Lini cards... I always assumed that there was only 1 card per iconic, evidently I was wrong.

I am happy. :)

(Or is it just because Droogami and Biter are their own minis that they get cards as well?)

It's safe to say Iconic pets get their own cards. So expect another Owner: Harsk card.

I'm really looking forward to playing Kyra again in WotR. This blessing is really nice to take along for the trip :)

I love seeing spoilers like this. Some of the new ideas/mechanics coming out for the game just look like things are going to get nothing but better. Can't wait to incorporate these into our gaming sessions.

See, there's an effect that would have been totally lost if his name had been, say... "Bucket Crunderdunder."

In the world of Lone Shark Games, his name still is.

These cards seem a lot better balanced than the previously-mentioned ones. The Bag of Sticks is best for anyone who isn't Lini....

Well, there are ways for Animal allies to end up in your discard pile other than when you use their power (damage being the main possibility). It seems like a nice emergency button for Lini to cover such situations, and a +2 on Survival and checks to close isn't too shabby either, especially in S&S.

Since Vic likes to link to ancient threads, I just stumbled upon this.

Was there supposed to be some 'bonus' card with one of the PF Iconics miniatures sets?

I'm guessing it's the monster card for Paidrig. It should be shuffled with monsters, so it doesn't have the Owner trait :)

Grand Lodge

You mean the Rogue Eidolon?

But that's it - the Eidolon IS the card for the Padrig miniature, so I have 6x6 cards, one for all of the miniatures.

While that post above implies there was 37th card announced (a bonus I guess?).

I think there is some confusion here. First, there are indeed 37 Iconic Heroes cards and miniatures.

The first 5 sets contain 6 miniatures and 6 cards. But Set 6 contains 7. Seltyiel, Feiya, Quinn, Reiko, Lem,
Daji, and Hayato. That is a total of 37.

What Vic had once said was that there was one card in the Iconic Heroes set that didn't have an owner. That card is indeed Rogue Eidolon.

So, 37 cards, one of which doesn't have an owner.

'Cause NOBODY owns the Rogue Eidolon!
