IT'S ALIIIIIIIIVE!

Hey, Pathfinders.

I'm pleased, proud, and exhausted to announce that the Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild Guide to Organized Play is now available for download! The card game team and our estimable Venture Officer community have put in many hours to bring this document to you, so we hope you enjoy it. We'll have printed copies available to read for those of you playing in the program at Gen Con, but for now, grab the PDF and get to reading!

If you're coming to Gen Con but don't have tickets for the sold-out Adventure Card Guild events, we might still be able to seat you with a generic ticket if you come to room 232 in the convention center. I recommend coming 15 minutes before slot start time to see if we can accommodate you.

Gen Con 2014 Adventure Card Guild Event Schedule

Thursday: 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 9:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 9:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 9:00 PM
Sunday: 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM

As announced last weekend, due to a necessary delay in Class Deck shipments, Adventure Card Guild play will begin on Wednesday, September 3 at a store near you, with new scenarios released each Wednesday (except for Christmas and New Year's Eve Day) for the rest of the six-month Season of the Shackles! Don't see your store in the locator? Then they're not part of the program yet! Tell them to sign up and make sure they check the box to tell us they want to participate in the Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild!

One more thing...

This arrived literally minutes ago.

See you all soon!

Season of the Shackles! Great name. Looking forward to this and excited to hear from those going to GenCon how it goes.

And that picture of Skull and Shackles is such a tease! The box is open, but you can't see anything of note inside!

By the way, if it is at all possible to get a video of the development team playing Skull and Shackles, that would be awesome. I'm so curious to see how you all play. It doesn't have to be anything fancy and can just be the very first scenario from the Base Adventure.

Will we get character sheets soon? Eager to check out all the new characters.

I know where my birthday money is going this year!!

Damnit, excuse me while I go poke the manager of the store I plan on running this at. I told him over a month ago that he needed to make sure the store was registered for this.

I'll get this straightened out, and then bask later when I get my box.

I'm asking the same question almost every single day. Well, the sheets were promised before GenCon, so I hope we don't have to wait for much longer.

Kalvit, I'm in the same situation. I hope that it gets going before too long =/

I am waiting as well. I am hoping that we have these tomorrow so that I can print everything out at home. I don't want to be trying to figure out where to do it in Indy.

You guys must REALLY REALLY like the initialism "ACG" this week.
We have the Advanced Class Guide and now the Adventure Card Guild.

Grand Lodge

Hmmm... So if the base set just arrived for the game designer that might explain why I haven't had my August subscriptions ship.

If all acronyms are ACG, it's much easier to remember what the acronym for anything is.

Acronym Centered Gaming?

Paizo secretly has meetings to decide what the acronym will be.

We're currently on ACG
Advanced Class Guide
Adventure Card Game
Adventure Card Guild

---
Previously the acronym was SS
Serpent's Skull
Skull and Shackles
Shattered Star

Soooo excited!!! Hopefully we get another good spoiler post tomorrow *crosses fingers*

Well, Advanced Class Guide could be ACG/AP as it does have the Adventure Path logo on it :)

Adventure Card Game should be ACG.

Adventure Card Guild should just be Da Guide (say in the same manner as DAAA Bears!)

so, when can we expect the ACG for SS?

Perhaps someday paizo will join this decade and let us dl files as PDFs directly. I'm on my way to gencon and would like to lead this doc on my phone. Alas Paizo loves us not.

Why not just use an unzip app?

Because I shouldn't have to. An unzipped PDF isn't that high an expectation. DriveThruRPG can do it.

I believe it's been stated elsewhere that there's a technical reason they use ZIPs instead of PDFs directly, and IIRC it has to do with how some browsers/devices handle PDFs.

I don't believe it.

I just opened a watermarked PDF from DriveThruRPG on my phone. It can be done. Now that Paizo does't want to pay enough for competent tech personnel who can solve those sorts of problems... that I believe. I looked at there job listings.

So it works on your phone, and therefore it works for all phones, devices, and browsers?

That video of Mike and Chad playing Runelords on "Watch it Played" really sold me on the game. It's amazing that the game is still more or less just as magical and exciting for me as it was in my imagination / perception a year ago around this time (maybe more like July) when I watched it. In fact, the game is even better. This rarely happens for me, but the game is just that good.

Hard to believe it's been a whole year. I'm really glad this game is around - thanks for making it, Mike, Chad, Vic, and the rest. Would love to see a repeat video like this.

Okay.

That Watch It Played video was the best video we've ever made for the game, though. I'm here at Gen Con, and at least half a dozen people have mentioned to me that they first got what the game was from that video. Rodney Smith is amazing. We've now done three videos together (the third is for The Maze of Games), and we hope to do lots more.

There is no video of the entire development team playing the game. We should fix that.

I learned about this game from Rock Paper Shotgun's weekly boardgame column. That got me hype, but the Watch it Played video sealed the deal.

Grand Lodge

Hopefully Paizo's publisher starts churning out a lot more copies of the S&S base set soon to get over this backorder they have. Wouldn't want anyone to miss the launch of the Adventure Card Guild because of low quantity.

I think Watch it Played got me into the game. It was at least my first introduction to the game. The play throughs by Rahdo and Ricky Royal made me buy it. It's my most played game of 2014.

And what sold *me* on the card game was Mike's interview with Tom Chick on the Quarter to Three Games podcast. I'd been on the fence leaning towards "no" before that.

What It Played gets indirect credit for me too, since Watch it Played convinced Calthaer, who then introduced me to it.

Yes, technologically speaking, we *could* deliver single PDFs without zipping them. In fact, when we first began offering PDFs on paizo.com, that was the standard behavior. However, it caused a lot of customer service issues, as people would click the link to download the PDF, and their browser would simply *display* it to them, and then they wouldn't be able to figure out how to save them. Seriously, we had complaints about that on a daily basis. Changing our behavior to zip single PDFs by default solved that problem for them. I'm sorry it created a different problem for you, but such is technology. Fortunately, we only hear your complaint once every few months. My recommendation is to use a PDF viewer on your phone that knows how to deal with zipped files.

(Also, our job listings don't even mention salaries...)

Emailed our local venture captain over a month ago. No response. Are there plans to work direct with stores or is that not an option?

I think that is the primary option. Is your store signed up on the retailers list? Check the last paragraph before "About Pathfinder Adventure Card Game" in this news release. Make sure you check the box saying you're interested in Pathfinder Society Adventure Card League Organized Play.

Yeah we're signed up there. As it is rapidly approaching I want to make sure there isn't something more to do.

Right now we're in a bit of a holding pattern as we try and figure out when retailers might get the Class Decks, as we can't launch OP until then. We'll send word to the retailers who have signed up as soon as we figure that out. Until then, just make sure you read through the Guide to Organized Play.
