Welcome Mark Seifter!

Surprise! Waits for shock to die down before continuing.

Hi, I'm Mark Seifter, the newest Pathfinder RPG Designer. Nice to meet you! You might know me better as Rogue Eidolon on the boards. Clearly a "Promoted Fanboy", I have plenty of experience in the field as a 5 Star PFS GM and have authored several popular products as a 3pp designer. Until now, I served with my girlfriend Linda as co-Venture Lieutenant of Boston (Boston Lodge represent!).

Here I am researching in Angkor Wat to ensure an authentic experience for my Jade Regent campaign

My roots are deep in the Paizo messageboard community, so expect to continue seeing me around in various threads as much as my new job permits. My experience has burned into me an insatiable desire to FAQ various topics, so expect to see those pick up as well.

You have no idea how much awesome we on the Design Team have in store for you, and with me on the team, we have more members than ever before. If we combine my new blood and enthusiasm with the experience and brains on this team, the world may not be prepared for the eldritch horrors we unleash!

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Master's in Computer Science and Engineering. Was working on my PhD and submitted my name to the designer search. But when the golem calls, you answer!

Probably a wise decision.... Engineering/CS PhDs probably do have actual job prospects, but a lot of PhDs nowadays (the ones that prepare you for academia) are terrible investments of time. They prepare you to be national lab researchers, or college professors, but the system produces several times more PhDs than there are jobs for them.

(I'm one of the lucky ones, at least at the moment.)

When I did my grad work, 3 years in I was ---> <--- this close to dropping out; I had a job offer teaching at a local hoity-toity private school. I ended up staying in. A couple of times thereafter I went through the horrible doldrums and didn't want to stay in. Most grad students I've talked to considered leaving once or twice, and a number of the ones I've known who left very clearly made the right decision.

My normal response...

Wait who?.... ;)

Congrats Mark!

Congratulations!

One suggestion since you'll be in charge of the FAQs. You may want to look through the various FAQ topics and find the ones that were labeled 'no response required'. Those always drove me crazy, because if the question is there then obviously a response of some sort is needed! :)

Of course, since you've been on the forums for so long you're probably already aware of this since the 'no response required' answers probably drove you crazy as well XD

Yep, you're right about that! It's already true that one of my resolutions is the following--if I ever mark something as no response required and it isn't immediately 100% clear-cut (like "Do sorcerers count as a spontaneous caster?" or something) and clearly has two or more followings for different interpretations who are going to claim that "no response required" means they were right all along, I will try to post something quick to explain why no FAQ response is required. Not a treatise though.

I look forward to what you bring to the game!

EDIT: Psychic Magic and a Book of Unusual Environments- like underwater, aerial, and a rules based Manual of the Planes pleeeze. Use your powers while the honeymoon period lasts! All 72 hours of it.

I wonder, now that Mark is on board, will the Sound Striker Errata be dealt with?

I will do what I can! Clearly, if anything anybody asks for in this thread comes to pass and is awesome, it was because I fought really hard to get it for you, whereas if it is not awesome, it was because it was on the schedule already. :P

Holy crap. Congratulations! I suddenly realize just how long I've been out of the loop in regards to, well, everything. But! Mine is an ironclad certainty (as a onetime member of the Boston*cough*Cambridge*cough* Lodge) that you will do fantastic work!

Congrats Mark!!!

Hope to talk with you at GenCon!!!

Cool beans, man.

Congrats man! I've been reading your stuff for a while and I think you'll be a good addition for paizo.

...

True, the flagship store of the Boston lodge is actually in Central square, Cambridge, MA along with two other venues, The Garage, just outside Harvard square, and on occasion some MIT classrooms (probably not without Mark and Linda though - don't tell 'em, but I believe they were actually the heart and soul of the lodge). Also there has never actually been a venue in the city of Boston (though I'm working on that).

The Boston lodge actually spans the east half of New England: NH, ME, RI, and the central and eastern parts of MA. There's no one, good name to describe this region other than the Boston Lodge.

Liberty's Edge

Congratulations, Mark!!

While it is sad to see that the Boston Lodge (which I have heard MANY good things about) is losing you, I think that you will do well.

Thanks everyone! It was sad to leave all our friends in the Boston Lodge. It was probably one of the few non-exciting things about the new job. But we're happy to know that a bunch of them will be making it out to either Paizocon or Gencon (or both!). Since I came onto the team after the lottery was over, I have a fairly open schedule at Paizocon--the better to schmooze!

This is really super-awesome! Congratulations Mark Seifterogue Eidolon!

You'll have some really tough shoes to fill, but just remember: trolling jerk posters is awesome er, uh, I mean, keep your cool, and don't let folks' ways bother you!

Also, even if I don't always agree, I'm here to back you up: if someone gives you too much grief, just warn 'em that you'll get TL to write an un-spoilered series of debates on the nature of inherently evil creatures and free will; the nature of divinity (including powered by or independence from worship relative to different campaign settings); the difference between relative infinities (and how two infinite creatures can be finite); the nature of absolute v. relative morality and how its adjucated within a gaming system (such as Pathfinder); Ur-mother; and so on. You... shouldn't have much trouble. :D

God bless you, and I hope you have a great time in your position!

Congratulations Rogue Eidolon.

Congratulations man. I've really appreciated the various guides you have authored. I know we are in good hands :)

Hey Mark,
Congratulations...it has been many years now since I bit the head off one of your mini's during IRON GM viking game. Good times!

Oh, who could forget the disembodied head of Mimir? I actually mentioned how you said "After Jason Bulmahn himself, if I could have someone under my desk to check rules while I was working on freelance, you'd be my next choice," at my interview, and Erik said "You'd better be careful then; I can't think of many places less safe to be than under Hitch's desk!"
