What a Twist!

Greg Vaughan runs a game while the crowd does their best to derail it with Plot Twist cards.

Is it just me or does Greg look a little like 2nd Editions Invisible Stalker ?

It's not just you... =p

For a moment, I thought someone somehow was able to successfully integrate a session using a Twister Mat. Then I spoke to myself, "I don't recall Moorluck being selected to GM a game ... or did I miss something? Hmm.."

Well played, Sir Baron.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I've fixed the picture for this blog post.

Look! The back of my head!

PLIT Twist cards?

Should read "plot."

Greg deserves a big pat on the back for this game. He made it fun to play (I'm the heavy set guy at the table) and watch.

I'm sure that everyone who watched or played will hold near and dear to their hearts the phase "where did that tentacle come from?" and "Lem's a man!?!?!?"

Liberty's Edge

"The gnome is a halfling!?"

"I am so confused..."

I had wanted to impart that little spoiler hours before that, but it seemed rude for a spectator to interrupt the game for something that relatively unimportant. I just assumed the rest of the PCs had horrible Perception scores and failed to notice Lem's bare, hairy feet.

Scarab Sages

Well for the first half of the game I thought Lem was female... especially once Lem made us into a troope of travelling circus performers... :)

And yes, Greg was an awesome DM for this. Especially to the call of 'Card' to the point where we had to figure out who's turn had been interupted!

What a great example of how sheer chaos can still be a ton of fun.

Great job Greg in a) not going insane b) making the twists plausible and c) making every single one of them a riot.

Good times...

I was one of the audience participants. This session was one of the true highlights of the weekend.

It's hard to describe the atmosphere, but sometime around the cleric tossing her hair like a supermodel with a +20 diplomacy check, and everyone wanting the bard's flute for...ahem, somewhat dubious purposes, everyone started laughing, and we didn't stop for the next two hours.....

Thanks again to Greg and all the players for being such great sports!

I hope this one is expanded at the next Paizocon.

Look, the top of my head! Hey, what's going on with that hairline?!?!?

To all, this was a total blast for me and easily the most exhausting 4 hours of gamning I have ever participated it. I was literally out of breath by the end. Thanks to everyone that played or participated in the gallery. You guys are what made it work. I only got 1 PC kill (who was then later resurrected through a plot twist, go figure), and I was still okay with the outcome. And that's saying something. :-)

Just be glad that the last plot twist card played wasn't "It was all just a dream..."

I've heard a lot about this event from players, participating spectators, and the GM, and have to say it did indeed sound like one of the highlights of PaizoCon! Sorry I missed it...maybe next year, when the new deck "Plot Twist Cards 2: GM Bribery" is released!

I'll be there for that one for sure! :-)

As a middle aged man with a full head of long hair I'm required by law not to make mention of others' hairlines...

Credit where credit is due: You were the lynchpin that kept the whole thing together. I was very impressed with the way you were able to tie everything together into one cohesive (if thoroughly chaotic) storyline. That was the most fun I've ever had watching other people game.

I said the same thing about seeing myself.....

That was nuts...and very, very fun. Where did that tentacle come from anyway?

Was that the person I accidentally killed with the Rod of Wonder effect that came up fireball? I'm glad she came back—I felt bad. I was just hoping she'd, you know, turn a funny color or something.

Lighting Bolt actually...I'll pass along your regrets to my wife Swinetrekie....;)

I was really happy to be brought back, but the lightning bolt was totally my own fault.

When you did the Wonder-card, Greg had the cleric roll for the result. When he read it he said 'Oh, that's lame, do it again'. He ended up repeating that 2 more times and the crowd was yelling for a charging rhino and various other chaotic things. I got really caught up in the moment and started calling for the rhino too.

On like the fourth roll he said "All right, Lem's covered in faerie fire." And I said "That's still lame."

As Greg turned to look at me I had a half second to think "Wait a minute that's MY character. What the heck am I saying!?!" And that was when the 4d8 lightning bolt hit me.

So the lightning bolt was TOTALLY my fault. 100% deserved.

Even the failed save and resulting death did not diminish my pleasure in the game. Greg managed to take the cards - which he hadn't even seen before the game - and make them into a fun tool. He kept a completely insane game moving forward and made it fun for everybody. Honestly, it was one of the best games I've ever played in. I can't wait to do it again!!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, swinetrekkie. It was my pleasure to reduce you to a crispy gnome...er, halfling. ;-)
