Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Book of the Damned (PFRPG)

Art of the Damned!

In previous blogs about Pathfinder RPG Book of the Damned, I went over some of the rules elements in the book as well as some of the lore regarding the fiends that work against the actions of mortals. Today I want to share a few pieces of the gorgeous art found in this book. Enjoy—at your own risk!

Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild #4-P1—Murder in the Marketplace PDF

A Look at PACG's Murder in the Marketplace

Season of Factions' Favor, our current—and weirdest—Adventure Path for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game is well underway. Designed by Keith Richmond with story by Katina Davis, Adventure 1, Chasing Yellow Sails, kicked off at Gen Con, leading the adventurers into the slave markets of Okeno in pursuit of a captured criminal. It's a rollicking adventure, and the upcoming Adventure 2 is also a mindbender.

Familiar Faces, Unknown Enemies

The Year of Factions' Favor has several intended themes—most notably a chance to feature factions' storylines in exciting ways—but Linda and I have found that this season lends itself to two themes that are equally gratifying: bringing back past NPCs and having them team up with the PCs directly to do awesome things. If you've followed earlier Pathfinder Society stories, you'll no doubt recognize several of these characters, as well as many more in the months to come. Even if you're newer to the campaign, we introduce these curators, adventurers, schemers, and scallywags in a way that should bring you up to speed in no time—and if you want recommendations on earlier scenarios to play leading up to these, the community's always happy to identify earlier pieces of the larger story.

Only Your Fellow Players Can Hear You Scream in Space

With the Gen Con launch behind us, it's time to start jumping into our monthly scenario previews. I'm exceptionally excited to talk about Starfinder Society #1-04: Cries from the Drift. This is a scenario I think a lot of people (especially Exo-Guardians) will be talking about, as it includes several plot points we've only hinted at in our initial scenarios.

The Devil's in the Details

Happy Monday! Welcome to another installment of our Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death previews. Releasing next month, Maze of Death is full of wickedly cool figures for you to encounter in your Pathfinder campaign. Up first this week is the Pitborn Fighter, a common medium based off of artwork found in Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of Fiends. I think he looks rad, especially for a common. The horns and spikes on his face are great, and I really love the armor.

Take a Look, It's in a Book—Of The Damned!

Many subscribers already have Pathfinder RPG Book of the Damned in their hands, but I'm not going to let them have all the fun talking about what's in this book. Last week I talked a bit about some of the rules in Book of the Damned, and today I'm here to talk about some of the lore and flavor.

Gaming From Afar—20 Rova 4717

One of my favorite things about Pathfinder Society (and now Starfinder Society) derives from the portability of the campaign. I started playing during Season 2 of Pathfinder Society. Since then, I've lived in three different locations (four, if you count my home in Las Vegas.) No matter where my family moved, we either found a Pathfinder Society community or built one. Being able to game anywhere made it easier to pick up roots and move again, knowing there would be a group of friends waiting at my destination.

Starfinder Condition Cards

Just Dropped In

Look, we tried to get rid of goblins in Starfinder, we really did. We tossed them down the garbage chute alongside some broken pipes and used batteries and OH GOD they have laser pistols and grenades and starships now! What have we done?!

Bound and Determined

Shortly after we began shipping Starfinder Core Rulebooks out, our customers started reporting issues with the binding, in both the regular and limited editions. Unfortunately, no manufacturing process is perfect, so there are always going to be a handful of issues, but by the time we came back from Gen Con, we had received more complaints than we would expect for a print run this size. We talked to our printer about it, and sent them some samples demonstrating the issue. They agreed that there was a problem, and they are doing everything they can to help us make it right for anyone who was affected.

A Novel Approach to Creating the Pathfinder Tales Character Deck

The Pathfinder Tales Character Deck required the most research of any of the decks. The Pathfinder Tales line includes dozens of novels and short stories, and a veritable digital mountain of web fiction. At one point I had forty tabs and three ebooks open as I scoured through all of the Tales for our best cards. Surprisingly, in that immense field full of amazing options, the team picked three characters almost immediately.

Leaders in Liberty, Voting Now Open!

Back in July we introduced a new character to the Pathfinder Society campaign. More accurately, we asked for your help in the form of a contest to write the character's backstory in 250-300 words. After Tonya copied the entries into a form we could review without seeing any author names, the team set to reading through the 53 narratives and picking out our favorites.

The Starfinder Society & The Lorespire Complex

It has certainly been an exciting and successful launch for Starfinder and the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild. With Gen Con 50 behind us, the Organized Play team thought it was a good idea to take a bit of a look at the organization that defines our living campaign: the Starfinder Society.

Pathfinder Player Companion: Antihero's Handbook (PFRPG)

A Folio for the Flawed

A Folio for the Flawed Tuesday, September 12, 2017 Look, I'm tired of trying to be the perfect hero. Ever since I started offering up my services—and working with a never-ending succession of random strangers—I've done the right thing, put others first, and bit my tongue, all without asking anything in return. And sure, the villagers I've saved have been grateful, and that's... nice. But whoever said virtue is its own reward never had to pay a bar tab. And hey, I do a lot of...

Big Things in Little Packages

Hello, this blog heralds the return of licensing blogs since the chaos of GenCon and a certain other, fairly large product release! This week we will be focusing on pint sized miniatures from the Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death set, which will release in November of this year. These critters may be small, but they pack a big punch, starting with the "Pretty” Goblin, a small common figure. The first thing you might notice is her hair. You might think, "wait, Pathfinder goblins don't have hair! Whats going on here”. I think you know...

Sutter's Last Blog

See that photograph? That's the oldest picture I have of me in the Paizo offices, taken by former Paizo Art Director Sean Glenn back in early 2006. At that point, I had already been at Paizo for a year and a half, working my way up from website image wrangler and editorial intern to Paizo's sole customer service person, then at last into a coveted Assistant Editorship on Dungeon. Much like Jon Snow, I knew nothing. While I'd spent my college years practicing to be a journalist, and had a whole adolescence of RPG gaming under my belt, I was a rank amateur when it came to professional game design—living proof of the "fake it till you make it" strategy. (I actually bought my first 3.5 rulebooks with the money from "Shut In," the first Dungeon adventure I co-wrote with Wes Schneider.)
