Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary 4 (OGL)

Announcing Bestiary 4!

This time there's more than just strange stories and bizarre powers amping up the threats, though. With the godlike powers soon to be unleashed in Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Mythic Adventures, there's about to be a whole new caliber of heroes in need of threats to overcome, and Bestiary 4 provides. Just as characters of any level might have mythic powers, the same is true of monsters. Infused with mythic power, legends like the immortal guardian dragon, faith-fueled juggernauts, and vampiric leanen sidhe rise to rampage across your campaign. But shattering all past power levels are truly world-ending terrors like demon lords, Great Old Ones, elohim, kaiju, and more! Simply put, no Bestiary has ever been as deadly as this.

Pathfinder Society in Portugal

We move from our last international blog in Ireland to a relatively new PFS lodge in Portugal. It was one of the countries that was not currently in the PFS fold and that I had targeted last year, especially after it was announced Paizo was looking to have Pathfinder Roleplaying Game published in Portuguese. I was extrememly lucky to find the awesome and talented Raul Moura da Silva that wanted to expose Portugal to Pathfinder Society and was motivated to spread it across the entire country.

Welcome Aslan, Intern Champion!

Greetings! I am Aslan. Cassidy (Mom) told me she introduced herself to all of you, but I was far more popular than she could ever hope to be. Considering she's one of my subjects, I think this is only fitting.

Pathfinder Battles Preview: The Devil in the Details

Today is a crazy busy day at Paizo, as the entire staff works to finalize the last little details of nearly a dozen books, all within a week of being shipped off to the printer so that we can get them to you in time for Gen Con Indy in August. It's our last chance to make sure these books are absolutely perfect in every detail. As a celebration of our meticulous, lawful activities, I've decided to dedicate today's Pathfinder Battles preview blog to devils.

The Irregulars

They moved silent as breath through the empty tunnels, tucking charges into crevices and butting them against wooden support beams. The devil's scent of saltpeter made the caverns smell like Hell, ready to burn with a single, ragged spark. Fairy lights danced in the deeper darkness where the Lieutenant and Trilaina licked wicks and set fuses, making certain everything was perfect. Up near the ore doors, Garm and Chaplain laid their casks with held breath. They were so close they could smell the sweat of the Molthuni regulars on the other side of the barred doors.

Righteous Indignation

I know that many of you are anticipating Chronicle of the Righteous, which introduces the forces of good and covers over 50 empyreal lords, mystery cults, and celestial beasts. While you'll have to wait until late May for the full book, Wes has agreed to share a preview of what's to come with Chronicle of the Righteous's cover boy, Ragathiel, General of Vengeance. Enjoy!

No Sleep for the Wicked

As we've mentioned a few times on the messageboards, Facebook, and Twitter, the creative team here at Paizo is deep in the process of ensuring all our products through Gen Con get to the printer on time for the show. That means we've all been pulled a hundred directions a day, and are putting in extra nights and weekends of "all-hands" work hours. Since that means less time for blogs and other content for which we won't pay dearly if it's not available at Gen Con, you get art previews!

Changes Are A'Coming and Gen Con Volunteers Still Needed!

There are some big changes in store for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign, beginning in Season 5—the Year of the Demon. We highlighted a few of them in a sneak peak on the Know Direction podcast last night but we also wanted to make sure those who did not listen to it were aware of the changes.

The Irregulars

The assault was precision-perfect, and quiet as a greased whisper. They charged into the blackness, teeth bared, ready to bring permanent silence to the dark places beneath the mountain. Instead they found an empty hallway, the door flanked by dark lanterns and lonely-looking chairs. A deck of cards sat on a scarred tabletop, dog-eared and forlorn. The air tasted stagnant, and cold as second-day stew. They lowered their weapons, and Chaplain pulled the door closed.

Pathfinder Chronicles: Dark Markets—A Guide to Katapesh (OGL)

Taxfest!

For those of us living in the United States, today is the deadline by which we must file our taxes. Luckily, we in the real world aren't the only ones doing our civic duty today; inhabitants of the Inner Sea region are also participating in their own celebration of taxes, sponsored by the church of Abadar. Editor-in-Chief F. Wesley Schneider got his taxes done early, and used the extra time to put together a special holiday blog for the Pathfinder Society community. You will find a special Pathfinder Society Chronicle sheet below, which you can download and apply to a Pathfinder Society character during the date ranges noted on the sheet.

Pathfinder Player Companion: Champions of Purity

Finally An End To All Those Paladin Threads...

Pathfinder Player Companion: Champions of Purity is on its way to stores and subscribers soon, and I thought I'd take this opportunity to point out some of my favorite parts of this book. While it has all the delightful crunch readers have come to expect in the Player Companion line (including new feats, magic items, spells, bardic masterpieces, subdomains, inquisitions, and a whole ton more I don't want to give away), the most exciting part about this volume for me is the careful and thought-out discussions regarding alignment and playing good characters. Some of the most interesting matters considered in this book include:

The Irregulars

The Irregularsby Neal F. Litherland ... Chapter Two: Scouting Party The place looked more like a kicked anthill than an iron mine. Built of heavy bulwarks of timber and stone, its arms curved out from the mountain like a mother's arms around her belly. A hundred eyes peered out of the crenelated sockets, sweeping the land. The gate was simply a drawbridge that spanned a dry moat filled with dust and splintered stakes. Pitch or filth lined the bottom—it was impossible to tell from so far...

Pathfinder Adventure Path #69: Maiden, Mother, Crone (Reign of Winter 3 of 6)

All the Legs!

There's something I'm sure many of you don't know about our Art Director Andrew Vallas. He has a thing for creatures with multiple limbs—multiple legs, specifically. At least six to be sure. To keep our awesome Art Director happy, I made sure to order a few multi-legged creatures for the Bestiary in Pathfinder #69: Mother, Maiden, Crone for his enjoyment. Not that the whole bestiary is a chorus line of horrible monstrosities, mind you. (There are only really two monsters that fit the bill, but considering the centaurs of the Dvezda Marches in Iobaria are each bringing four legs to the party, there are a lot of legs to make a bipedal creature jealous.)

You Are Not Forgotten!

We here at Paizo HQ are deep in the throes of birthing a number of incredible products for release at Gen Con in August, and that means it's an all-hands-on-deck scenario. John and I are being called upon to assist with development and editing of products outside the Pathfinder Society Scenario line, and that means less time to devote to Pathfinder Society blogs on Mondays. So that you aren't left in the lurch, however, here are a few pieces of art from some of this month's Pathfinder releases, set to start going out to subscribers in the next week or so. Some of these images may even be useful for GMs who like visual aids for their Pathfinder Society games, though I won't give any more info than that!

Pathfinder Battles Preview: Shark Week

This summer's upcoming Skull & Shackles Pathfinder Battles prepainted fantasy miniatures set contains scoundrels and scallywags from the water's surface, but some of my favorite figures in the set actually live below the waves. One of the reasons we wanted to create this set in the first place was to finally get some aquatic creatures into the world of prepainted plastics, and WizKids has done a great job bringing the briny deep to life before our eyes.

Author Jim Zub on Pathfinder Comics

Adapting source material to different mediums can be really difficult. Each form of entertainment has its own strengths and weaknesses. Movies aren't books, games aren't prose, and comics aren't video games. When you move between mediums, you need to understand what the essence of the source material is and do all you can to keep that core intact while adjusting the rest around it.

The Irregulars

They marched like human cattle through the arid throat of the mountains. Men and women, old and young, were all subsumed into a single, shuffling, iron-bound mass. They walked with their heads down and bodies slack, broken through and through. Men wrapped in leather and steel rode snorting horses and shepherded the herd like overzealous hounds. Lashes snapped, the loud cracks of cruelty that made words unnecessary. Dust rose from bare feet and shod hooves, and the hot wind reeked like the breath of Hell welcoming new pilgrims. Just more meat for the grinder of Molthune's aspirations.

Queen of Thorns Tops Locus Bestsellers!

Dave's characters of Radovan and Jeggare have been a lynch pin of the Pathfinder Tales line since its inception. From the very first time I opened one of Dave's manuscripts, I knew that the brilliant Count Varian Jeggare and his streetwise sidekick Radovan were exactly what I'd always been looking for without knowing it: two characters that burst with life, an odd-couple team every bit as compelling as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. It's been a pleasure to watch them grow over the course of the series, and to see readers fall in love with them the same way I have. To now see their latest novel, Queen of Thorns, hit #1 on the Locus bestseller list is hugely satisfying, and a confirmation of something I've believed since the beginning: that these two characters—and their author—are the sort of storytellers that weasel their way into a reader's heart and leave you anxious for more.

Greetings Pathfinders! We regret to inform you that it has come to our attention that some of the Chronicle sheets included in Pathfinder Society Scenarios published between August 2008 and March 2013 may include a defect in the font used to create them. In order to ameliorate the unfortunate situation, we have made the difficult decision to recall all Chronicle sheets published during this window. All members of the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign are encouraged to destroy all physical copies of there Chronicle sheets. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to you're local Venture-Captain to receive replacements.
