Welcome! This is a discussion thread for my Gameday VII Assault on Absalom table.
I'm still getting set up, but feel free to post here in the meantime.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions at any time.
Hoping for a fun game for everyone!

Deck Handler

Hi all! Looking forward to this, should be fun.

Scarab Sages

Hey guys, just realized my Varril is not teir 2 yet, he's still teir one. I've so far played him exclusively in meatspace, so Emp, do you need a copy of his sheet?

Also I'll try to get him to 2 by October 1st. If not, no big deal, I can play up.

I am playing with Ultimate Magic, there is supposedly a database that lists all the decks people have seen me with, if not I can provide photographic evidence.

Good question! You're fine.
The event is only run at tier 2 (for characters of tier 1-3) or tier 5 (for characters of tier 4-6). So I was indicating that this will be a tier 2 table. But I've edited the header to hopefully be less confusing.

Yes, I will need the chronicle sheet for prior played characters at some point. I'll try to put together some set up instructions including things like that in the next few days.

Oh god, Talitha would be so good in this game! “Bury a blessing to help another table you say? Sure, I’ll give myself a free reroll!”

First off: I have hit Tier 2. I'll try to scan my sheets and send them to you.
So two questions. Firstly, can I ask what game box this special is using?

Secondly, my character has gotten the ability to use loot items "for the rest of this adventure path" from season 4. Can I use those loot cards for this game or no? Just trying to figure out how this special works, as I've never done a card game special before.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Hey everyone. I'm part way through tier 2, but we should be done with the current scenario (1-2D) within a few days.

Mostly MM B/1/2, although with a few S&S cards.

Unfortunately, no. The Assault on Absalom adventure is not part of the Season 4 adventure path (nor any other season's adventure path).

Hi! Some pregame instructions:

Player Information
What timezone are you in?
Are you currently using your character in another game?
Will you be playing your character for tier advancement in this event?

Party Communication
Some parties like to strategize via google hangouts; some parties just use it to alert when someone’s turn is up. Others parties prefer to communicate entirely via the discussion tab. It’s up to you!
Using a google hangout is completely optional. If that is something you would be interested in, send me a Private Message with your e-mail address. This is entirely voluntary, and the decision is anonymous. If anyone, for any reason, would rather not use google hangout, I will not set it up.

Posting Expectations
Please try to take your turn within 24 hours. Obviously, let real-life take priority, but out of courtesy to the other players, try to let us know if something does come up.
Use a posting style that works best for you, with as much or as little flavor as you feel comfortable with. It’s your game! The one thing that I would request is that you label your dice rolls with at least the difficulty and type of check.

Let me know if any questions!

This will be the character’s fifth game at tier 2. I’ll likely tier him up to three after this game.

I’m good with either.

I’ll let the party know that I like being at the same location as other players as I can, at the start of my move step, recharge a card to recharge TWO cards from someone’s discard pile. Tell me where I am most useful.

Also, there is some question about if Varril can use his ability to replace his divine skill for combat checks with weapons. It’s up in the air right now, because the Devs said that was not their intent, but as far as I know there is no official eratta.

Also also: I have no way to get rid of curses, as I was using hand of the honest man for that. Since I can’t sub in loot, I hope the rest of you have the ability to get rid of curses.

Yes, although we should be done shortly. Just one more location left.
Yes, currently tier 2 (completing the third scenario).

I've never used google hangouts, so can't say if it would be something that would be beneficial, or if it wold be more of a distraction.

As far as curses go, I have no way to get rid of them, so let's try to avoid getting any.

One more pregame item: decide which of 2 scenarios you'd prefer to start with.

I was, but it's been put on hold for now so you can move the character over.
Yes, I will.

Well, it seems to me that between my ability to turn any check into a divine check, Mavaro’s ability to get virtually any skill, and Red Raven’s plethora of skills between his too forms, that scenario A (the less combat oriented one) seems like the better option.

Also: just remember, I can get a remove curse in the deck-I think. I have access to one of the traders who can give you any basic card you for the scenario. So I can trade in my codex (+1d4 vs henchman/villians) for a remove curse (basic spell), right?

Sorry, neither loot nor traders.

See Deck Handler here

Throws hands up in the air Thanks PAIZO. How about you take away my bonus card feat for completing 4-2A through 4-2E? I mean, as long as we are taking away all scenario rewards?

None of this is aimed at you EmpTiger. I know you are just running the game as written and in no way blame you. I’m just frustrated that unless you built specifically for season 3 or 4, you have almost no way of getting rid of curses which feature SUPER prominently in mummy’s mask. I mean, there is like, one monster that decurses you and one location that decurses on a close. Super annoying.

Deck Handler

I agree, this group seems much better built for skills than combats, so we should start with option A.

No offense taken, VampByDay. :)
By the way, that's me requesting view access for your deck handler.

There, should be viewable by everyone now, though I have’t updated it since I played five games on Sunday. I’ll get it up and running by October 1st

What does this mean; am I going to "tier-up" at the end of it? Do I have to? Do I still get all the other rewards if I don't? If I get all the rewards but have the choice of not tiering-up, then of course I'd like to do that. We tiered up after our Gnomality game, right EmpTyger - so Mavar(i)o is Tier 2?

I actually can't get Google Hangouts working on my Android phone (for some reason), and prefer to use this discussion page. Last time I seemed to be taking a lot of my turns during the lunch hour at work to keep things moving, so...need to use my phone (cannot use the desktops at work to surf Paizo forums).

Fine.

In terms of the two scenarios, I'd have to say that I lean more towards the reinforcements one rather than the combat one.

If playing for tier advancement

  • Earn scenario and adventure rewards.
  • Earn upgrades.
  • Earn feats after the 1st/2nd/4th scenario.
  • Increase a tier after 4-6 scenarios.

If not playing for tier advancement

  • Earn scenario and adventure rewards.
  • Earn upgrades.
    (No feats, no tier progress.)

And correct, Mavar(i)o would be starting Tier 2 now. If you choice to play for advancement, you’ll end the adventure ready to start Tier 3. If you don’t, you’ll end still at Tier 2.
(I believe the choice exists so you don’t have to worry about leaving a regular party behind if you play in an event.)

Scarab Sages

Male

I think I will not play for Tier advancement, then. I just want the Special rewards, not the regular feats. If we go back to our Skull & Shackles thing - which was a lot of fun - then I don't want to leave the rest of the peoples behind.

For reference, here is the text for the Reinforcements support card, and the relevant rules:

Reinforcements wrote:

On your check, after the roll, you may bury this card to add 1d8.

You may bury this card; each character shuffles a random card from his discard pile into his deck.
You may bury this card to shuffle 1d4+1 random cards from your discard pile into your deck.
At the end of the scenario, give this card to another Pathfinder Adventure Card Guild table that does not have one displayed or buried.
Adventure rules wrote:
Any character may bury a card that has the Healing trait, an ally, or a blessing to give a displayed or buried Reinforcements support card to another Pathfinder Adventure Card Guild table that does not have one displayed or buried.

I've added this text into the header, where I'll also display whether you have one displayed, buried, or unavailable.

If you're looking for such help, let me know, and I'll pass along word to the other box runners.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

OK, the scenario I was in is completed, so I'm ready to go on this. Although I've changed my mind about doing this for tier advancement; I am not getting tier advancements on this.

This is just for the purpose of initially setting up the database; you can change this later if you'd like to set a specific turn order.

Random turn order:
Spoiler:
    1) Maelwys0/Aric & The Red Raven
    2) VampByDay/Varril
    3) Void_Eagle/Amaryllis
    4) Calthaer/Mavaro

1st player, 2nd player, 3rd player: 1d4 + 1d3 + 1d2 ⇒ (2) + (1) + (1) = 4

VampByDay/Varril
Maelwys0/Aric & The Red Raven
Void_Eagle/Amaryllis
Calthaer/Mavaro

The scenario intro is up! Please let me know your starting location, then draw and post your opening hand.
Also, let me know if there is a specific turn order you would like, or if the random turn order is okay.

Gameplay will begin tomorrow!

Note that the Conflagration’s Fire damage happens *before* you reset your hand.

VampByDay:
So, you get to draw 1 more card because of the above.

Also, Ptemenib let you examine 1 card at 2 locations (rather than 2 cards at 1 location). So you saw the Bladeguard at the Surgery and... let me know where else you want to examine?

Sorry, guess I shouldn't post first thing in the morning when I'm sick. I'll examine the Smoking den and fix my hand. Also, there was a weird formatting issue when I posted. I origingally did post with ooc tags and everything, but they seem to be gone and my header is all messed up. That happen for everyone else?

Yep, same thing here. The top half of the thread looks fine, but everything after the board update has messed up formatting. I don't know if there was something in the code of that post that didn't parse properly or what, but even though the posts look fine in preview, they're stripped of all formatting (even on the username) once they're actually posted.

Hm. I'm guessing it might have to do with how the ACG Overseer's post is favorited by a null user? I've flagged it as a display problem, but I'm not sure how the forum moderation here works. Hopefully it can be corrected soon and/or it'll be fixed once we advance to the next forum page.
Thanks for putting up with it in the meantime. Please don't hesitate to ask if anything seems unclear because of the formatting errors.

As other tables use their Reinforcements, they are looking to pass the card off for another table to use. One is currently available to be displayed, so please let me know if you'd like it to come here!
Let me know even when none are currently available, and I'll get you "on the wait list", as it were.

EmpTyger wrote:

Clarification: you cannot receive and use the Reinforcements mid-check.

Box Runners: We are making a few tweaks to how some parts of the special are being managed. Please make sure you've checked in to the Google Hangout so that you are aware of the changed. Thank you.

To keep things moving, could everyone indicate whether or not they are willing to take the 2nd check? So that Void_Eagle knows whether Amaryllis should be taking both.

Deck Handler

Looks like it's a non-issue now, but my answer would've been a firm No anyway. Aric is hiding in a corner somewhere unwilling to do any fighting right now. ;-)

It seems (crossing fingers) like that formatting bug is confined to the first page?

Deck Handler

Yep, looks like!

Deck Handler

Objective preferences - I'd be happy with either Exchange or Sovereign Court, because they play to my strengths a lot more than collecting compasses.

Well done! Despite some unlucky henchmen placement, you’ve still got time to complete an objective. Reminder of what they are:

Exchange:
Summon and build the locations Seaside Warehouse and Warehouse. When you defeat a monster or acquire an ally, you may shuffle a weapon from the box into your location deck. When you acquire a weapon, you may immediately attempt to close the location the weapon came from. To complete this objective, close the Seaside Warehouse and Warehouse.

Scarab Sages:
Summon and build the locations Altar of Riddles and Vault of Hidden Wisdom, then shuffle the henchman Elegiac Compass into each. To complete this objective, 2 Elegiac Compasses must be displayed next to the scenario.
Note: the locations do *not* have to be closed.

Sovereign Court:
Summon and build the locations Pleasure Barge and Safe House. The difficulty of checks to acquire allies that have Diplomacy in their checks to acquire is increased by 4; when you acquire those allies, you may immediately attempt to close the location the ally came from. To complete this objective, close the Pleasure Barge and the Safe House.

Everyone, let me know which you want (or alternatively, which you don’t want). As soon as there’s consensus, I’ll set up the new locations.

See Deck Handler here

Exchange seems easiest:
Also, Aric, did you catch that I healed you for two on my turn?

Did someone say “healing”? :) Some Reinforcements have arrived!

I’ll include that in the next update as well, but check the campaign header for a quick refresher on what they can do for you.

Deck Handler

Varril, I did not! Thank you very much

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I don't remember what the requirements for the compass are, but I'm not great at either of the other two, so I'll default to the discretion of the rest of the group.

So that's 1 vote for not-Scarab Sages, 1 abstain, 1 vote for Exchange. Seems like a loose preference for Exchange. Calthaer, any objection?

To keep things moving, I’m going to post the set up for the Exchange objective.

Scarab Sages

Male

I'm fine with any of them...Mavaro has all skills. Well...maybe not all, just yet. But a lot.

Exchange setup is posted! Amaryllis's turn. Good luck!

Slight issue with Varril's turn: I believe Seaside Warehouse 2 (Crocodile Skin Armor) got skipped. I think the easiest way to retcon this is to say that Varril used her Osirion Ancestor to bottomdeck the Crocodile Skin Armor.

Congratulations! I felt same in assuming that with 2 turns left, you wouldn't all be wanting to try another objective :)

Start thinking about what 2 upgrades you each want. Let me know your choice of weapon or armor, and I'll add those random non-basics to the acquired cards.

Also, everyone make a d20 reward roll for Gameday.
9-00A reward: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Nope

I believe only Varril and Aric are playing for tier advancement.
Aric completed the first scenario of Tier 2, earning a skill feat.
Varril can choose to advance to Tier 3. (Note that since the event scenarios is Tier 2, I'm not sure there will be any opportunities to acquire Boon 3s for upgrades.)

For the next scenario, you have to choose your objective in advance. The choices are:

Dark Archive:
Add the locations Great Library of Tephu and
Guardian Vault, and use the villain Velriana Unborn. If the Great
Library of Tephu or the Guardian Vault is open, the difficulty of
checks to defeat monsters is increased by 2.

Grand Lodge:
Add the locations Ghoul Square and Sea Fort, and
use the villain Devoted General. At the start of your turn, roll 1d4;
if the result is less than the number of characters, you are dealt 2
Ranged Combat damage. When playing this adventure in Tier 2,
the difficulty of checks against the Devoted General and Kor-Ahn-
Tuk are decreased by 6.

(Since both objectives have been "met" as far as the event is concerned, if you succeed, the success will be applied to an unmet objective.)
Let me know which you'd prefer, and I'll get the setup posted.

See Deck Handler here

Varril’ll choose armor.
The dark archives seems strictly better, as it doesn’t have us taking 2 combat damage almost every round.

I’m working a 9 hour day today, so it’ll be 6:00 pacific time before I get a chance to look at the inquisitor class deck to see what I want. May be nothing.

Also: choosing NOT to teir up
