Adventures from Absalom (Inactive)

A group of adventures set out to find fame and fortune from Absolom

I have decided to run a campaign for all of those I have played with before, especially the DM’s. This game is open to any I have been in a game with before. I am going to run a series of adventures which I have DMed in person for my home group. I have no experience in running a PbP game so please be understanding. This was supposed to get started before my surgery last week but due to all the site issues it never got posted.

Now, down to the nitty gritty:

25 point buy (I like my heros, heroic)
Max gold for class
Max hit point first level (will use half die rounded up thereafter)
2 Traits
Background skills will be in use
Sources: Core, APG, Unchained, UM
Looking to take 6 characters
Background: Something, though see below for some specifics I am looking for
Closing Date: 9-12, with the caveat I may go longer due to interest and how I feel

About the Campaign and Me:

I’m a bit old school in my gaming. I’m a believer in the fighter/mage/thief/cleric party. I know more than those classes can fill those roles but those are the first roles I’ll be looking to fill. I’m not a fan of the magic mart but I won’t be using ABP as I DON”T like it. I’d prefer to place treasure that your characters will like rather than run back to town and buy it. With that in mind I’d like a list of the magic items you’d like, including weapons and armor types. I like “heroic” characters. To me that means someone who sees a need and is ready to help, rewards aren’t a consideration, they are nice, but doing good is it’s own reward.

I have a way to bring the party together, however I would like to have each character have a tie to Absalom family wise, as well as someone or group you are willing to take orders from there; church, PFS, guild, mercenary group, etc.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Are any of the splatbooks allowed? I'm fairly fond of Weapon Masters handbook and Armor Masters handbook since I like to make fighters. If not I can muddle through though.

I'll allow archetypes from anywhere just about as long as it's not too crazy. My restrictions on sources is mostly to keep out some classes and races and crazy powerful specialized builds. There are some things in those books I like though. I want my players to have fun so I'll tell you what as long as you don't ask for classes or races from elsewhere and don't go too crazy pull stuff from wherever you want subject to DM veto if I think you went too far.

If you have to ask for a DM ruling about a feat and class ability combo before you make your character, I'd say you're probably pushing it to far.

I'll be making a human fighter with no archetypes. I just like the stuff from those two books which brings fighters up to par (IMO of course).

If those aren't on the table, more likely I'll do a human or dwarf barbarian.

That doesn't sound like a powermad grab in my opinion so go for. I'll even through in Combat Stamina free for fighters.

Dark Archive

I'll be signing in with probably a monk or a sorcerer, not quite sure just yet, but it may be a day or three, depending on the hurricane. I don't expect much more than a blow, but you never know...

By way of introductions, my name is John and I've been playing RPGs since about 1978, having begun with the Holmes boxed set. As my characters go, I believe in role-playing over roll-playing and I hate "shopping" for magical items, so expect me to accept whatever I can use that I receive. My characters often grow as the campaign progresses, so don't be fooled if my background is scant at first; I promise you it will fill out as we continue. I play my characters like I write; I let them tell me about themselves.

Here is WhtKnt's submission. I got done with storm prep early.

As a youth, Kanna was orphaned by a plague that struck her village. Taken in by monks, she learned their ways and found a talent with the bow. As she grew in years, it became stronger and she formed an almost supernatural bond with the weapon. She still carries the beginner's bow on which she learned, but hopes to acquire a new, larger bow as soon as money permits.

Most recently, she has journeyed to Absalom to learn more about the ways of the westerners and has found a friend within the Pathfinder Society. Finding their goals much the same as her own, she has sworn fealty to them. Despite the fact that her deity is considered "evil," she has a strong sense of honor and lives by her personal code.

Hey, just checking in with interest.

Will get a character and concept up in the next day or two. Thinking divine caster/healer to start but can easily change it up if someone else really wants that role.

My Intro: I started in RPG's with the D&D Red Box in the early 80's. Was all into what is now called 1st Ed (was AD&D back then). Left gaming for several years and came back for Season 4 of PFS and the hardback version of RotRL. Have run games as GM most of gaming career. Been on the boards for about 5 years, running a variety of things.

I prefer character development to what you get with PFS, but that's the easiest game to find. I find the written medium for gaming so much better than what I can come up with on the spur of the moment at table-top.

I do not like power-leveling, min-maxing or over optimization at the expense of character development, so generally, all my PC's will have a story that explains their various powers.

Hope to enjoy a good creative game with you all!

Wow, some very familiar faces, Hey all!

So far a fighter, monk archer and divine caster, sound like we could use a happy little skill monkey.

DM Trawets I know your putting the game together in appreciation to the GM's you've played with; Which is very cool. So I will watch the tab, if you need a sixth I'll post something.

I've got an unchained hafling rogue, or a gnome sorcerer, ready to go. if it looks like either could be useful I will bring them over for you to evaluate.

Do I understand the last sentence right, we need to have a contact in the city of Absalom, that we will take direction from?

This is Niversal Bud. I play a heck of a lot of rogue and bard and cleric. My name is Charles and I am a player from the chainmail white books way back in the day. Older then dirt and loving me some gaming. I will fill anything you have a spot for. If your other player goes fighter and you have divine caster filled I could go barbarian of the dwarf variety.

Spoiler:

16 str 16 con 12 dex 16 wis 10 int 10 Cha
Power attack and a great sword
3rd lv feat raging vitality
Traits toothy cause a dwarf biting somebody is hillarious
And dangerously curious because using magic matters even badly
Skills perception 7, use magic device 5, survival 7, acrobatics 5 for mechanical crunch. I really like playing Warhammer fantasy and dwarves have these guys called Slayers who are frenzied maniacs who are on a quest to die because of some grudge or disgrace to their family. How does that sound for a base for a background?

Hi,
Veshly/Albus Wodeward/Volta Delbove here. I think this Trapsmithing Rogue is completed with updates for your campaign. If there are any comments or question or changes recommended I attend to them soon.

He's been played a little before but not for years. He's Pathfinder Society through and through. Can add much more to background but trying to keep it brief.

Thanks for the invite!

I'm assuming you'd prefer to keep the characters fairly 'normal', so no awakened animals or unfettered eidolons.

Robert Henry wrote:

You understand correctly. I would like for there to be somebody that says go die and you go. Not literally but that's basically what being told to go adventure is.

Also I would like you to have some familial link to Absalom. This isn't quite as important and only effects our start.

Feel free to put a character together and submit it. Not all of the current ones are DMs. They will get a higher priority but in my experience it's always fun to come up with a character.

You are correct. I would like normal characters.

You are correct. I would like normal characters.

Are you sticking to 'Core' races? I assumed so because the only Races mentioned in the books you listed are core.

If you are accepting non-core applicants, my 'rogue' would be a Tengu...

And your right, it is fun to come up with a character :-)

Core races is correct.

OK, have a character worked up (DrBuzzard here), I've got a fairly minimal background (but I tend to think a 1st level character isn't going to have much background). It does have a tie into the Pathfinder Society if that is desirable for motivation. I used an odd weapon, but one I find to be interesting. Ultimately I'll probably rig him up so I can use it with a buckler to get his AC into a good place so he can hold the front line without demanding all the attention of a healer.

As for me, old school player since 78 also. I've played every edition of D&D but 4th. Tried 5th, but had a bad table and have not gone back to try again. I've also tried a number of other systems over time, but I spend more time on PF than anything since it's got a solid base of players. I also like the immense variety if options available.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ianfir (see link) the Druid is mostly done. Only need to finalize equipment, but I'll save that for when he makes the cut, if he makes the cut. Ianfir can fill the combatant role, divine caster, or a support role and I haven't really ever played a druid much, if at all, so it should be interesting.

So far you have all the 4 basic groups covered? If you do I can play a human or elven ranger, If you don't have all the basic groups covered I can play what ever the party needs.

Gosh I'm so glad you asked:

DM Trawets
Ok, an odd approach to the ‘recruitment list.’ I’m starting with the GM’s who have posted interest whose games you are in as of this moment…
mdt Asked a few questions?
drbuzzard entering:Groff The Glib Dwarf fighter 1

Now I’m going to list the other GM’s who you have played with or are in games with you now:
WhtKnt entering: Nokayoma Kanna Female human monk (zen archer) 1 a player in Voyage of The Red Dusk
DMDoctorEvil Thinking divine caster/healer

Now I’m going to list the people who are in games with you:
Edelsmirge entering: Niversal Bud barbarian of the dwarf variety. a player in Mirror Mirror
Veshly entering: Volta Delbove Human Rogue (Trapsmith) 1 a player in Adventures In The Vale
Toxic Dragon entering: Ianfir Human Male Druid 1 . a player in Mirror Mirror
Thoron Palehorn I can play a human or elven ranger, a player in RA

So, we have a dwarven fighter almost Guaranteed a spot, and probably a monk archer. The GM’s :-) Then we have: a dwarven barbarian, a human rogue and a male druid offered up. Then we add the potentials: a divine caster/healer, and possibly ranger.

I apologize for not having a character posted yet, I was waiting to see if I get in another game, and to see what everyone else posts. I still have a gnome sorcerer, that I may present later. with the appropriate backstory of course

@ DM Trawets:
Would a Myrmidarch Magus archetype from UC be acceptable?

Grand Lodge

Ok if Xunal is going to be a finger wiggler that casts spells, I'll make a human ranger if that's ok.

Robert Henry wrote:

Thank you for posting this, that was going to be my first task today.

To all: Thank you for submitting characters and we do have a few more days for more to come in. So everyone can see my thinking so far in this I'm going do do a bit of a further breakdown.

"Fighter": There are a few submissions for this role
"Mage": I have no finished submissions for this role though at least one offer that needs finished.
"Thief": There is one submission for this role
"Cleric": There is one submission and a possible one to come.

I have not really read the submissions in detail yet. I'm trying not to bias myself until the deadline when I read them all and make my picks.

If anyone has questions please let me know.

That archetype is fine

Grand Lodge

Couple of questions. What is the environment we are going to be in like? (Plains, forests, desert, etc.) I need to choose a favored enemy for my ranger. And how do I show you my ranger's character sheet once I finish it? Last question how do I put my character's name in the game so I can post as him?

Grand Lodge

Ok I made a human ranger. Need to know the environment so I can choose a favored enemy and chose another language. the link is here http://paizo.com/people/Alaiin/profile. Let me know if I'm in so I can finish him up.

Grand Lodge

LOL I forgot to post as Thoron, sorry about that.

Cool; I have the number-crunchy bits done.

Just need to work on a back story...

Grand Lodge

Ok I have a background for Alaiin, along with magic items I'd like, not want but you did ask. Hope it passes your standards.

Alaiin wrote:

We will be in all sorts of environments: urban, dungeon, forest, plains. I'd pick something you might find in any of them.

I tend to like the guide archetype because it is adaptable to any given opposition (though a limited number of times per day). It's in the Advanced Player's Guide so it is allowed.

You do give up the pet though, but there's a party buff instead.

TREASURE ITEMS FOR VOLTA

Early on Masterwork versions of what he has possibly with special materials.

Rapier
Leather or Studden Leather armor(with courtier costs added for style).
Dagger
Backpack
are the big ones for that after that magic versions of course.

Potions ( or item versions of these)
Animate Rope
Cat's grace or Owl's Wisdom
Darkvision
Invisiblity

Bags of holding or Handy Haversack or Heavyload Belt

He does like money as well! I don't like the Magic Mart either but the masterwork mart is okay by me.
List cutdown for being too long.

As to me, I have to one up the other oldies (but goodies) by saying that I did my first role playing session in 1977 with original DnD (the white box set) basic or advanced not yet around. I've played many Rpg's through the years, stopped playing Dnd in 1980 and went with Champions, and Gurps as mainstays (and a bit of Traveller amd RQ II) with a long campaign with Amber Diceless. Returned to Dnd with 3rd ed went pathfinder when Dnd went 4th. Also played WFRP 3rd and Rocket Age(Cubicle 7). Read many other systems that I haven't played, not played EPT with it waiting patiently for 40 years :"-( .

Grand Lodge

Did you want the magic items we wanted posted here or with the character info and so forth?

Important items for Groff:

(eventually)
adamantine dorn-dergar
gloves of dueling would be nice
magic armor

protective stuff in general is good.

Really don't mind the auto bonus progression that much myself since it both eliminates magic mart, as well as keeping things near the balance point expected with CR. If you use only base version, you still hand out interesting magic items.

I don't need the lists until I select the six for this.

My major problem is I don't like how ABP handles weapons and armor.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Here is my submission. A dwarven cleric of Abadar, named Finngarth.

Finn was born in Absalom as his father was a prominent member of the Bank of Abadar there. He has only grown up in the church, and that particular deity has grown his dwarven proclivity for the accumulation of treasure and material wealth. His background person is his father, a lead banker in the church and well-respected man. He is pushing his son to acquire his own material wealth, and Finn thinks an adventuring career might get him off to a good start.

Finn worked in the gemology section of the Bank of Abadar, appraising and cutting gemstones and hence has some background in such things. He will play as greedy, but law-abiding, in the Abadarian tradition. He will try to acquire gems and jewelry, for which he has a special proclivity, at the expense of other items. He may get in arguments with other party members over loot, but will always respect the rule of Law.

As a dwarf, the domains of Earth and Travel (especially underground travel) are the facets of the worship of Abadar he has studied most closely. I expect he will prepare mainly protection or buffing spells for the party. He is well-armored and can do moderate damage in melee (less so in ranged combat) if required to stand in the front line.

He is geared with a feat in Extra Channel to help provide healing to the party, but if there is another half-divine caster along, I may change that to something else to add flavor - perhaps martial weapon proficiency or something else.

I will create an alias for Finngarth if selected. I tried to only use the sourcebooks you listed, which took out some racial traits I would like to add to him. If there is any wiggle room on those racial traits, please let me know.

Happy to answer any questions of fix anything that looks out of line. Hope to join you all in this adventure!

Several of the players have given a short background, I figure I should do the same. I started playing AD&D in college in 1980 and Traveler shortly after that. I played in college, afterwards real life kicked in. Years later, I would read what I could about the changes in RPG’s on line and started read about ‘Pathfinder’ eventually finding this site.

I read along for a few months, then back in 2014 decided to apply for a couple of games. I’m now in thirteen. I work third shift at a treatment facility and started playing there to keep myself awake and alert. I’ve gotten in the habit of checking the boards regularly from home as well.

I generally play melee heavy characters or skill characters, this will be my first attempt to play a sorcerer. I have a gestalt Halfling thief/sorcerer that I’m really enjoying so I thought I would try for a blaster with a strong diplomatic tie-in. I apologize if Hyder is a bit of a ‘glass cannon’ but I really want to get the ‘full experience’ :-)

Good luck all. Looks like a good selection to choose from.

Hey, DM Trawets, things are getting hectic due to a couple of RL issues. It probably isn't going to be a good time for me to start a new game. I'm going to drop out of the recruitment. Thanks for running the game, I hope everyone has fun.

That's too bad Robert, hope things clear up for you soon. It however leaves us without a completed mage candidate and kinda leave us without a real "face" character as a candidate either. Volta is somewhat personable but is very focused in both build and backstory on being a "Ahem" Acquisitions specialist. Only three entries have Charisma above average with only one that has diplomacy as a skill. Not sure how important that would be but if there is someone thinking of a late entry I think now is the time to throw the hat in the ring, of course that is up to DM Trawets.

I'm sorry to hear things are getting hectic Robert. Things are getting that way here currently. I've got a hurricane coming my way, maybe, sorta, kinda. I'm in Charlotte, NC and if thing ever makes up it's mind I may see something from it. It will be windy and rainy just don't know how much.

I'm going to announce five of this six for the game.

Groff The Glib by drbuzzard
Nokayoma Kanna by WhtKnt
Finngarth by DMDoctorEvil
Volta Delbove by Veshly
Ianfir by Toxic Dragon

If someone would like to submit a wizard, sorcerer or even a bard I'll take one.

I'll get discussion up soon.

Discussion is up. Those of you selected please check in.

Dark Archive

Be safe, DM. Those hurricanes are nasty business. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and am well-familiar.

Grand Lodge

Hope everything turns out ok with you. I'm from the Texas Gulf coast and I've ridden out like 5-6 of them hurricanes. That's to many for me.

Anyway I've made a wizard if you still need one. Link is http://paizo.com/people/Seldion. Haven't made a background yet, but that's easily done.
