The cleric of Besmara idea isn’t bad, since we’re still lacking on heals - but I like the party composition so far :)

A wild shape focused druid with an animal companion would synergize wonderfully with a skald. I'm certainly in favour of this direction. Will you be able to take advantage of raging song as well chess?

A skald can also pick up healing spells, though I'm thinking to start off as bloodrager. We'll probably need the melee more than the skills.

Too bad we didn't go with the "we're all related" idea, I really feel like it would make things easier.

What races are you guys going for? Since I’m building an elf, maybe my character could have helped raise the final teen years of other(s). My character would still be an young adult (for elf standards) but when compared to humans or half-orcs, it means several decades. This sense of “adoptive paternity” (more like older brother?) would help with keeping us all together.

I hadn’t decided on a race yet, but no reason I couldn’t roll a half-orc sorcerer as your character’s brother, oyzar.

I’m thinking Chaotic Neutral for alignment. Like the storm, I care nothing for good and evil, but cause destruction in my wake.

Just a tip from someone who is running 2 S&S games on the board. If someone wants to be a Cleric you should! Some of the later battles will really hammer your party without a full healer in the group.

The water domain will also be of immense value to the party. Plenty of battles under the waves as well as one them. :)

I'm still deciding between human and half orc. Having Chess's character as a mentor/adopted caretaker would work for me as a group concept.

Question: are subtypes and alternate racial traits allowed?

I have the same question as Sbodd about alternate racial traits.

Assuming oyzar agrees, Sbodd, all three of us could make half-orc siblings. Maybe our parents were sailors or pirates or something like that who left us in the care of someone when they went away from port. One day they never came back because they shipwrecked or were destroyed by a storm or something like that, so our caretaker raised us. Then they died and Chess's character took over, working to finish raising us.

My preference would be that all 3 of us are related, yes. Though if we're going half orc, we have to decide if our parents are also half-orcs or one orc and one human? I think it's more interesting if they were one of each, with one of them being Captain of a ship.

I like the idea of Chess' character being tasked with raising us. Perhaps the ship got destroyed in a battle or got shipwrecked and be survived, but our parents and the ship did not? This would also explain his sailing experience (though not why he's still only level 1).

Since Greaek allowed pretty much anything, I assume we can pick alternate traits as we want.

Awesome. The three half-orc siblings it is!

Looking at the Stormborn bloodline's ablities and such, I'm going lean a little into the combat sorcerer side of things, focusing on buff spells, ranged touch attacks, and spells that deal lightning and sonic damage. I suspect that our group's strategy, once we get there, will be to kill things more quickly than they can kill us.

I like the idea! I think it's all shaping very nicely. As DBH well put, though, I'm afraid we'll be missing on the heals side (but maybe I'm just being too scared? maybe the GM can add a NPC healbot if things prove to be too deadly?)

Half-orc it is, then! I'm fine with being first-generation half orcs.

On the healing front, I think we'll probably be able to muddle through. In addition to my druid, skalds get healing spells (and IIRC can eventually share a decent amount of Fast Healing via rage song), and a few ranks in UMD would let the sorcerer contribute as well.

So I guess we're ready for the GM :) Maybe we should switch to the discussion tab.

Bump bump! Anyone seen our DM?

I think we have to make characters first...

Yes, I tried to make a discussion thread yesterday, but I was having difficulties With the site, I'll do that when I get home.

I figured the site issues affected things yesterday. Once the discussion thread's up, we should answer these questions about our shared background:

1. Were our parents pirates or non-pirates?
2. What was their opinion of pirates (good, bad, neutral)?
3. How did they die (shipwreck, killed, storm, etc)?
4. Where did we grow up (in Port Peril, elsewhere in the Shackles, etc)?
5. Once we reached the age where we left home, did we leave together, or did we go our separate ways?

I figure once we've got that figured out, we can write our backstories from there. I've got my stats figured out, just waiting to write that.

I chose "Touched by the Sea" for my Campaign trait.

I’m using Besmara’s Blessing. First I thought of having them already coming from the Shackles, but maybe it’s even better if we come from another place and fled to th Shackles - maybe the parents were bandits, pursued by the Chelish Navy, and we kept something from them that the navy is still interested in and that motivates them to be pursuing us. How about that?

Discussion thread's up. Answer over there.

I'm sorry. I don't feel as motivated for this anymore. It's better to drop out now before we've really gotten started, rather than cause things to stall after we've started. Hope you have fun with this game.
