Welcome aboard!

Let's start discussing potential anything and everything before the game officially starts.

Wood Elf Ranger 2 | AC 15 | HP 12/12 | Str +0; Dex +3; Con +2; Int +1; Wis +2; Cha -1 | perception +4, init +3, stealth +5

Here's Kyarra, still lots of work to be done on her, probably mostly not until Monday. Looking forward to starting!

Female Half Elf Sorcerer 1 | AC 12/15 (Normal/Mage Armor) | HP 14/14 | Init +2 | Str -1; Dex +2; Con +4; Int +1; Wis +1; Cha +5 | Perception +3, Insight +3, Investigate +1 | SP: 2/2; Spells: 1st 2/3

Dot-er-ooni!

Male Human Warlock (Celestial) 2| HP: 15/15 | AC: 13 | Str 0; Dex +1; Con +1; Int +1; Wis +3; Cha +5 |Init: +1 | Passive perc: 13 |

Happy little Tian guy here, pretty much need to figure out alignment and he's done.

Male Human Warlock (Celestial) 2| HP: 15/15 | AC: 13 | Str 0; Dex +1; Con +1; Int +1; Wis +3; Cha +5 |Init: +1 | Passive perc: 13 |

Oh yeah... will be away until Wednesday, so if you decide to start really early next week, I might be a little late to join the party.

Wood Elf Ranger 2 | AC 15 | HP 12/12 | Str +0; Dex +3; Con +2; Int +1; Wis +2; Cha -1 | perception +4, init +3, stealth +5

Mechanics question - is there the equivalent of weapon finesse in 5e? I'm trying to decide between archery and TWF, but I'm loathe to give up some Dex in favour of higher Str. I can't find anything about using Dex for melee fighting instead of Str. I like the idea of a great archer, but don't want to suck if things get up-close and personal, especially with three magic users on the team.

Wood Elf Ranger 2 | AC 15 | HP 12/12 | Str +0; Dex +3; Con +2; Int +1; Wis +2; Cha -1 | perception +4, init +3, stealth +5

Grrr...nevermind, found it right there in the weapon descriptions.

Female Half Orc Paladin 11 | AC 22 | HP 24/92 | Str +5; Dex +0; Con +2; Int -1; Wis +1; Cha +2 | perception +5 persuasion +2 | init +0, passive perception 15 | Spells 1st 4/4 2nd 1/3 3rd 0/3

Just saying hi. I think most my crunch and fluff are done but that doesn't mean I did it correctly.

Female Half Elf Sorcerer 1 | AC 12/15 (Normal/Mage Armor) | HP 14/14 | Init +2 | Str -1; Dex +2; Con +4; Int +1; Wis +1; Cha +5 | Perception +3, Insight +3, Investigate +1 | SP: 2/2; Spells: 1st 2/3

5e is actually very supportive of Dex fighters, which is nice for a lot of builds. That's why even my sorcerer can be a passable crossbow user.

Wood Elf Ranger 2 | AC 15 | HP 12/12 | Str +0; Dex +3; Con +2; Int +1; Wis +2; Cha -1 | perception +4, init +3, stealth +5

I think the crunch is done, but I'm far from confidant I haven't missed anything. Almost done fluff, I'll let you know when it's online.

Female Half Elf Sorcerer 1 | AC 12/15 (Normal/Mage Armor) | HP 14/14 | Init +2 | Str -1; Dex +2; Con +4; Int +1; Wis +1; Cha +5 | Perception +3, Insight +3, Investigate +1 | SP: 2/2; Spells: 1st 2/3

@Angie: Fyi you add your dex to damage with ranged weapons in 5e. So you should be quite good with that longbow!

Ok, I've reviewed what's been posted and I like what I see so congrats on making (once again) some interesting PCs.

@Sophie: Is Tenabras the starting city of Kenabres?

I aim to start this towards the end of this week...

Good job! Just in time, too, because we're getting ready to start.

I take it the confusing names with you and your sister are on purpose...

Yep! Elven family names, high on tradition, etc etc. I know you miss Matty and Maddy, (and Marty) so this is the next best thing. :)

Updated now.
Pretty much done.
I think I might take exposed to awfulness? Is that okay?
Kyarra - will that fit the background and help kickstart Amme's paranoia?

light crossbows

High elf: long sword, shortsword, long bow, short bow

Oops, I forgot that your race also gives you proficiencies.

This still leaves the question of the armor proficiency.

@Kyarel: consider again being a fighter with the eldritch knight martial archetype.

I think it fits better with your intended playstyle (weapon bond at 3rd level (black sword), DEX-based fighter, war magic (magus type) at 7th level).

Your high elf race would give you one cantrip to start with.

Another thing to consider is that we already have two blasters (warlock and sorcerer) and ranged fighter (your sister). Wouldn't your sister be very annoyed with your insistence in getting 'up close and personal' with the demons. :)

No need to change but just some thought to mechanically fit your concept (as I understand it).

Sophie had arrived in Kenebras only the day prior and she was already sure that everyone could tell that she didn't belong. Surely they would see her plain appearance and wide eyed wonder and know that she had never been in a city half this size. Certainly the dull peasant's dress she wore and her grandfather's old rickety crossbow did not belong in this world of shining armor and steel weaponry. Still it felt too late to turn back now. How could she go home to her family and to her teacher and tell them that she didn't even try?

As she found her way to an inn for the night, she got a frightening reminder of why she was sent here. As she opened the door she felt that warm, uneasy feeling she always got in her stomach when she had performed magic accidentally. She hopped away from the inn door like she expected it to suddenly explode. What have I done now? It had been a while since she'd had a genuine episode, but the nerves of the day were getting to her. Looking around the inn she saw that she was getting stares. Calm down. They just think you are acting weird...or...are they looking at my head? She grabbed her head and ran for the bathrooms. Looking in the mirror, she saw that her hair had been turned a bright shade of pink and let out a sigh of relief. Oh. That's all? I think I can fix this... She focused and used the color changing trick her teacher taught her to slowly return her hair to brown. Sheepishly, she returned to the inn entrance and booked her room. The place was way bigger than her grandparents inn, but she liked to think that it wasn't as homey or welcoming. It would have to do, though.

Despite an uneasy nights rest, Sophie woke up ready to explore the Armasse celebration. While she had found the city as a whole a bit overwhelming, there was something exciting about the festival. She had never been a part of a celebration so big. They must need a whole lot of caterers! Watching the skill of some of the competitors was at first a little intimidating, but she also found it reassuring. How much danger can I be in with warriors like these? She also noticed that there were quite a few peasants in training who seemed as inexperienced as she was. Guess I better jump on in then...

She approached a nearby archery booth and asked the trainer with a folksy smile, "So, I've got this old bow here that my grandpop used to use to hunt. I don't suppose you've got any tips for a country gal whose feelin' a bit out of her depths?"

I copied everything across to Kyarra's template last night. I might've missed something.

The half-elf with the beggar clothes did not warrant a second glance from the heavily armored knights and knights-wanna-be. It was clear that this girl did not have what it took to be a proper squire.

The wrinkles on the forehead of the elf in charge of one of the archery booths marked him as someone who'd been pulling bowstrings for decades if not centuries. His mouth creased as he smiled and extended his calloused hand, "Let me see that bow there little lady."

He turned the wood in his hands and sighted down the wood a couple of times, "So what did your grandpop used to hunt with this?"

tag?

He added, "So how new are you to Kenabres and what are you doing here?"

tag?

Hopefully better now?

Kyarra was exhausted.

The journey from Kyonin had taken much longer than she'd anticipated. After all, she'd travelled widely through her homeland for decades, and considered herself experienced.

This journey was completely different. For one, she was dragging Kyarel along with her. Or, more accurately, he was dragging her. The boy had no skill with overland travel, and why would he? Growing up in a demiplane didn't exactly lend itself to survival skills. But he had so little common sense! He was eager to see everything, and didn't think about the dangers that could be lurking around every corner. She often had to call him back as he practically skipped into danger after danger. She would have thought that with Zoriel's death so recent in his mind that he'd be a bit more cautious, but not so. Maybe amme was right to lock him up in that plane...he'd have died an infant otherwise, she considered, as she helped him untangle himself from yet another choking ivy.

Then, of course, was the added complication of the fact that the entire world wasn't Kyonin. After reaching their northern borders, they entered the chaotic land of the River Kingdoms. Trying to negotiate the strange, wetland terrain and the shifting alliances of the inland pirates had been exhausting. Then had come the harsh plains of Numeria, and the Ketephys-cursed wind! The never-ending wind was still howling through her mind. There was beauty in that lonely land, and they'd managed to skirt hostilities with any of the local tribes, but she'd been glad to see the familiar-looking forest to the north.

The Estrovian Forest, however, had been nothing like home. Harsh, forbidding, and full of strange and eerie animals, after one sleepless night she and her brother had given it wide berth. They'd travelled the river bank instead, until clear of the forest. Then, a few cold days on the plains, and Kenabres had finally appeared in the distance.

She thought herself a worldly elf, but the trip had proven her otherwise. She thought herself city-wise, after her years in Greengold, but this teeming metropolis taught her otherwise. The size of the city! The number of people! The types of people! Humans and halflings, gnomes and half-orcs, the diversity was overwhelming. And everybody seemed absolutely itching to fight. If I get Mei-Ky through this place in one piece, it'll be a miracle.

Still dressed in her BriarWarden clothes from home, at least she didn't stand out in the crowd. She was tall for an elf, but not taller than many of the people here. She was pale for an elf, but her white-blond hair blended in with these northern people. Her brown and green leathers and armour were nothing unusual, nor were her weapons. A few other archers looked at her bow with appreciation, but otherwise she drew no notice. Thank Desna for small mercies.

Kyarel was, naturally, anxious to observe the festivities in the main square as part of their holy day. Strange way to celebrate the gods, if you ask me. Not that Kyarel had asked her. As they pushed through crowds and watched displays of talent, strength and stamina, it was all Kyarra could do to prevent herself from keeping an arrow knocked at all times. All she wanted was to return to their meagre lodgings and draw up a plan for finding her brother a teacher, and then sleeping for three days, at least. "Too bad those plane shift scrolls are beyond you, Mei-Ky. I'd love to shift home right now for a bowl of stew and a good night sleep."

As yet another muscle-bound stranger jostled her, she clenched her hands in to fists to stop herself from drawing a weapon. Sighing, she took a few deep breaths and said, "Well, what do you want to see next?"

Kyarel's amazement at the outside world was starting to be slightly tempered by irritation that it just never let up.

He looked around the crowd. 'Amazing. Every single one of them is a unique individual. That woman leaning out the upstairs window. Why does she call to the passersby, but only the men? What life events brought her to try to live her life here, next to the Worldwound? That large man - is he one of the last of Sarkorian's blood? Is that why he looks so angry with that woman? Should I ask him?'

Post Kyarra

"Not really beyond me." Kyarel argues "But fun as this trip has been I'm not keen to have to start it again tomorrow. We should be able to buy a better meal, and a decent room right? Capitalism means we can exchange arbitrary currency for pretty much any good and/or service, correct?"

He looks thoughtful "It makes sense for us to establish a base camp before we embark on further exploration. I know you older citizens need your creature comforts. I'll fix it."

With elven speed, the advantage of surprise, and the slipperiness of youth he flicked through the crowd and over to the talkative woman leaning through the upstairs window. He pointed to the oncoming Kyarra with one hand and held up a silver with the other. Loudly he called out "Hello! I want to take that young lady to a nice dinner, and hire a good room. Can you suggest somewhere?" Misunderstanding the look on Kyarra's face as concern about their finances he added "Somewhere that charges hourly?" 'See; financially sound. An hour for a bath, four hours trance and we're away.'

I'm finding the overly verbose just isn't jelling for me. I'm going to try only using it for book learnin', and combine with utter ineptitude with the real world.

Kyarra - where are your swords and bow for. Are they heritage, standard issue, or custom made? Would like to tie their weapons together thematically.

Standing at the junction of several major streets filled with people and temporary stalls selling all manner of food and trinkets, the short Tian visitor beamed happily at the passersbys, earning him several suspicious looks. Not that those few dark expressions could sour his good mood.

Shiro took a deep breath, sampling the many strange and exotic scents in the air… mixed with quite a bundle of less savory fragrances. On one hand, honey and fruit, roast meats and vegetables, woodsmoke and soap. On the other, hints of sewage and decay, sweat and unwashed bodies. There were benefits to living in practical seclusion high up the Kamifushi Mountains, the young monk thought sagely. Still, experiences were to be embraced, one just needed to focus on the positives and take the negatives in stride.

Much like his accommodations from the past night – no doubt many a traveler would have cursed the pile of hay in a stable if one had been forced to turn to that in lack of proper rooms at an inn. But after more than half a year on the trail, a soft bed had been a blessing, and the body-heat from all those horses had kept the chill of night at bay. Combine that with fresh water to wash himself in the morning, and a hot breakfast of porridge and fresh bread, brother Shiro felt at peace with the world… if one must complain about something, he thought after a moment, it was for the dreadful tea the innkeeper had served with her otherwise wholesome breakfast. Clearly the woman had not been aware of the proper water temperature, and the tea leaves themselves had been clearly substandard. And the milk she had poured into his cup, without consulting him first!

That, Shiro felt, was simply evil. But she had done it in good faith, he was sure. It was not for him to judge the strange and barbaric ways of these foreigners.

Shaking his head to banish the memory, Shiro focused on the festivities taking place all around him. What better way, he thought, to get to know these people than to experience one of their holy days. The exact nature of the celebration had eluded him – something to do with martial displays of might, he had gathered. At least he had already spotted a great many stalls and competitions that had something to do with archery and ritualistic duels. And now that his current task for the day was done, he was free to mingle in and feast his eyes.

For a moment, Shiro frowned in thought as he considered the latest mission he had been given to undertake. He had no idea why knocking down a bees’ nest from a certain tree and dropping it down from the wall adjacent to the city’s wall into what appeared to be a quiet back street was supposed to result in (with the exception of some unlucky citizen being stung by the enraged insects), but as always, it was not his place to question the commands of the kami. He was just grateful that he had found an empty sack conveniently lying around that had allowed him to carry his furiously buzzing burden up the wall without being attacked by the bees himself.

Distracted by his fruitless pondering, Shiro bumped into someone – a bearded giant in mail armor and a tabard of a winged lion that no doubt meant the world to a local but was no more than a pretty picture to the Tian monk. ”Many apologies,” Shiro said immediately, bowing deeply to the man. ”This monk was fault, honorable personage. He strives to avoid this again.”

The profuse apologies and low bows seemed to catch the man by surprise and the angry retort died on his lips. With a muttered curse the man strode away, leaving Shiro bowing at his back.

”Best days to you, esteemed Lady,” he said, perhaps fortunately too quietly for the man to hear it over the drone of the crowd. Nodding to himself, the monk noticed a few people around him staring at him in bemusement and answered their glances with a wide, bright smile. Despite being head and often shoulders shorter than the local population, Shiro did turn a few heads as he passed along the streets. First, there was his shaved, oiled head, the skin tanned by sun and scoured by icy mountain winds. Then, the bright brown eyes with their epicanthic folds. The wide smile of near-childish wonder. The tiny, tiny beard on his jaw, so precisely cut it might have been painted on. Then the clothes, the bright red of the strange robe, the pristine white of the shirt and the sash around his waist. The copper-studded leather armor. The soft slippers.

Putting the near-incident behind him, Shiro rejoined the flow of people, enjoying all the strange sights and sounds the city had to offer.

Accent will be a work in progress for a while, until I hit something I fancy… Shiro’s command of the Common tongue is somewhat erratic – after all, he only just learned it during his journey here from Tian. Could always try the ye olde method of machine-translating something via a couple languages back to English… that tends to muddle up the original meaning nicely ;^)

"Oh golly...you know I'm not entirely sure." She responded to the man, "He hasn't hunted for quite some time...age and all that. I do recall him telling me a bit about killing a deer a whiles back, but I think I got terribly upset as a child at the thought of him hurting cute little animals..." She chuckled, "I guess he didn't talk so much about it after that, even as I got older and started to actually understand where my evenin' meals were coming from. Though I am sure it was only smaller creatures. It's a quiet village after all!" The sky was a perfect shade of blue and Eliora was lying in a lush green meadow letting the light of the sun warm her. She was always at perfect peace in her meadow but she had a feeling that it had more to do with her companion than anything else. She stretched in the sun much like a cat before rolling over and meeting the lion’s eyes who was lying beside her. The warm amber eyes watched her but the lion said nothing. Sometimes they had long conversations but today was not one of those days. Eliora wanted to ask when she would be allowed to join the Crusade and fight against the evil threat the Worldwound posed but she couldn’t make the words come out. The lion got to her feet and said one word that both answered Eliora’s unasked question and gave her hope. ”Soon.”

Eliora sputtered awake as she was hit by a pillow. ”Oi! You were snoring again with a big goofy grin on your face.” Lindis tried to sound upset but she couldn’t help but grin at the half-orc who hung over the standard issue mattress that was provided to members of the City Watch. She had been terrified at first to have been paired with the hulking half-orc but now she couldn’t imagine any other roommate.

Eliora grabbed the pillow and was about to turn over to snooze for a bit more when she realized what day it was. She sat bolt upright and yelled, ”It’s Armasse!” She bounded ungracefully out of bed and grabbed Lindis’ hand to drag her out of her bed. ”Armasse!” She began yanking on her uniform and armor. ”Get dressed! We are going to spar and eat and drink and spar and celebrate like the Worldwound doesn’t exist.”

Lindis laughed at Eliora’s enthusiasm, ”Woah there Eli. First breakfast then we find out if we have any orders and then we get to have fun. We keep the peace while others celebrate, remember?”

The half-orc took a deep breath and then nodded, ”I am hungry…but prayers first. Egon raised me right.”

Lindis scoffed at Eliora as she pulled on her clothes. ”How many times do I have to tell you that prayers aren’t necessary in the City Watch. It’s going to make you late for breakfast.”

The half-orc grinned which was terrifying for those unfamiliar with her, ”Iomedae blesses me with strength, courage, and life every day. The least I can do is thank her for that and continue to seek her favor. Go feed your stomach while I feed my soul.” Then Eliora’s stomach rumbled very loudly in protest to the delay in it getting fed.

Lindis smirked at the noise Eliora’s stomach was making but said nothing more about it. ”Fine. See you in the Hall. Hopefully there’ll be more than just scraps of bread left by the time you get there.”

Eliora centered herself as Egon had taught her and opened herself up to Iomedae’s divine power. She spent time in prayer, both thanking and making requests of her goddess. She ended her quiet time by reciting the Acts. Feeling refreshed and ready for the day, the half-orc made her way to the Hall to eat.

There was still hot porridge and cured meats left to fill Eliora’s stomach. As she was eating, her commander approached the table. ”Eliora. You will be on duty today. It was decided that those late to breakfast this morning would be the lucky ones who would need to work instead of getting the day off. You got ten minutes to get to your post.”

Eliora looked crestfallen but she nodded glumly. Even though she would have preferred to have the day off to fully enjoy Armasse, she would never disobey orders. She cheered herself up by reminding herself that she would be serving and protecting while still being able to observe the festivities. She quickly devoured another rasher of bacon and collected her gear.

After checking in at her post, Eliora clomped through the streets of Kenabres in her City Watch uniform. She kept an eye out for anyone getting too unruly during the Armasse celebrations. She often stopped to watch commoners handle weapons, some for the first time. What she really liked were the contests of strength and the sparring. When able, she would stop and cheer along with the others. Considering her focus on the festivities and on the mood of the crowd, the occasional stink-eye by individuals directed at Eliora went unnoticed by her. For the most part, the locals of Kenabres recognized and warmly welcomed the affable half-orc and so she didn't expect anyone to react poorly to her.

Action 1

Kyarra felt her blood freeze in her veins as the Wardstone went up in a gout of fire. The sight and the smell of the demonfire was familiar to her, but on a scale she'd never imagined. Oh, amme, we've made a mistake!

She was already pushing Kyarel back into a closed doorway when the dragon made his appearance. Gobsmacked, the ranger could only stare at the magnificent animal as it rose above the flame and smoke, shining silver even in the red light of the fires. "Oh, Desna!" she murmured in awe. And then cold terror again, as Khorramzadeh appeared in the sky. Balor, her mind automatically categorized, even as she drew her bow, second in power only to the Demon Lords.

"Kyarel, stay exactly there, and get whatever you have ready. This is going to be ugly."

Action 2

Ugly did not even begin to encompass the horror in the streets. Demons were everywhere, tearing, mauling, consuming. The plaza was suddenly too packed for archery, so Kyarra drew her short swords. A dretch came lumbering towards them, straight towards a stunned-looking half-elf with a pink streak in her hair. Kyarra grabbed her arm and thrust her behind with Kyarel. "Get back, wretched one!" she cried to the dretch. She kept her brother and the woman behind her, hoping to give Kyarel enough room to do his magic, but not enough that something could flank them. Ketephys, guide my swords! she prayed, and lunged forward, cutting high, then low.

The demon was not prepared for an efficient attack, and fell back into another of his kind, arm severed and knee broken. However, where he fell, three took his place, and Kyarra suddenly realized they were about to die.

I assume that's about as far as we get? Sophie, I hope you don't mind me incorporating you!

Action 1

Shiro stared in openmouthed wonder at the silvery dragon – a creature of the greatest legends – took to the air before his very eyes. The wonder quickly turned to apprehension, however, when he saw the creature of shadow and darkness that rose to oppose the noble wyrm. He didn’t have the slightest idea what that creature was – a demon of some sort, it seemed obvious, and clearly a powerful to be willing to cross swords with a dragon of all things. But be it whatever it may, it had to be bad news for everyone in the city.

’So this is why the kami sent me here,’ the monk mused, doing his best to get clear of the crowd that was beginning to panic, before it swept him away. Because he wanted to see the battle unfold… and he believed nowhere in the city would be safe, were the dragon to fail against the demon.

Action 2

It became clear to Shiro the lord had not come alone, unfortunately, as he caught the reek of Sulphur in the air and saw the crowd flinch away from this direction and that, heard the sounds of battle and screams of the wounded, the dying. There were far too many of the lesser fiends to battle, Shiro felt, but so far there seemed to escape either – he was too short to see over the crowd for any meaningful distance, and he had just arrived to the city and didn’t know any back streets that would lead to safety… not that he knew where safety could be found in the first place.

Shiro debated whether he should join those few who fought against the invaders but doubted his rather untested skills would prove equal to the task. But the choice was taken from him when a black-winged lanky devil with a bird’s beak rushed through the crowd in his general direction. While the people all around began to turn away from the creature in their midst, the massed citizen behind the first ranks were still in the process of running away from some other danger behind them, resulting in a confusion of kicking legs and pushing hands that was already felling people who were fated to be trampled to death by their fellows.

”When in doubt, charge,” the monk muttered to himself, recalling a story told by an Imperial soldier who had ran a message over to the monastery he had lived in, and had stopped to rest for the night before beginning his long return journey. And at the moment, the advice seemed fitting. Falling on his hands and knees, Shiro scampered towards the demon, launching himself to dive between its long, thin legs, narrowly avoiding a clawed hand that had struck at his back. As he passed the creature of darkness, he touched one leg with the tips of his fingers, calling for the power bestowed by the kami to sear the demon’s flesh with divine fire. The moment the monk heard the bellow, however – far more rage than pain in that shout – he immediately began to question his own decision.

Action 1:
Sophie's eyes widened in horror as both a huge demon and a dragon appeared and began to do battle. She had felt ripples of it yesterday, but now she new for sure that she was entirely out of her depths. She wanted to run. To hide. To cast the protective spell that Taika had taught her. But her body wouldn't cooperate. It was like she was in frozen in place. Her fear was rising like it might explode...a thought that only served to terrify her further.

Action 2:
Even as the plaza filled with threats, Sophie's body would not cooperate. She put her hand over her ears and closed her eyes, trying to wish the danger away from both around her and inside her. She heard a shout in the distance and opened her eyes just in time to see a horrifying bulbous creature charging towards her. The feeling grew stronger. It was going to happen. She was going to explode. Or die. Or explode and die.

Then she felt someone grab her and thrust her backwards. Between her and the monster stood an elf, armored and heroic, looking ready to take on whatever threatened them. Scrambling to her feet, she felt control in her body again. She thought about trying a spell, but decided it was too dangerous. Instead, she reached for her grandfather's rickety old crossbow and fired towards the monster.

Was there a reason you cut Eliora's post short in the recap? Not that it matters, just wondering.

Action 1:

Eliora made her way to Clydwell Plaza to keep an eye on the crowds during Lord Hulrun's address. She was nearby the cathedral when the ground shook beneath her and the sonic boom resonated through the air. She looked around for the source of the danger when Terendelev made his appearance. She was both filled with wonder and apprehension - wonder at his magnificence and apprehension as to why he had shown himself. Surely there was some sort of danger coming that would threaten the people of Kenabres. She continued to scan the crowd when Khorramzadeh showed himself. Hatred burned in her soul as Eliora drew her longsword and prayed, For Victory, For the Heart."

Action 2:

Even though she intended to help Terendelev, her plans changed dramatically as the Plaza became overrun with demons. All she could think of was protecting the citizens of Kenabres. Eliora bellowed over the chaotic din of the crowd, "Everyone to the cathedral! The streets are no longer safe!" Eliora used herself as a shield for those scrambling to get to safety. She rushed forward and drew the attention of the demons to herself so others could get away. A toad-like beast grabbed for a child and the half-orc paladin severed its tongue with her sword. She then scooped up the boy and stampeded towards the cathedral steps slashing at other demons with her sword as she went. She deposited the child and ran back into battle. Only Iomedae knew if Eliora was going to survive this day. The only thing the paladin knew was that she wouldn't stop fighting until the demons were dead.

No reason at all. I did not cut it but it looks like I did in the 'viewer'. The image covers up the last part of your post. If you download the file, you will see your entire post and the image right above 'Actions 1?'

Weird.

Action 1:
Kyarrel stood stupified. 'Figures of legend, battling within bowshot.' His mind lit up with possibilities. Battle strategies from the old books. Heroes who could have made a difference. All useless - until Kyarra pushes him into a doorway and yells at him over the din.

"I don't think I even have any spells..." he starts, drawing his bow by reflex.

Action 2:
Torn between the immediate threat and the Balor, Kyarrel reasons desperately 'The Balor must have expected to be the target of archers. Logically it will have taken precautions. In the meantime we need to regroup and look for options.'
His eyes flicked around the crowd of monsters, past the pink-streaked woman fumbling with her crossbow. 'I don't see many options.' Following her example he started to shoot at demons. In some ways it was easier than hunting with Kyarra in the woods - demons were bigger than rabbits for a start - and in some ways harder. In all his time hunting he'd never seen a rabbit eat a screaming man alive.

'I don't understand, in moments like this there's supposed to be a hero sent by the gods, right?' Thought became words as he shouted to his sister "Where's the hero?'

When one of the - presumably militia - started to yell instructions he nodded. "A holy site might keep them at bay!" he yelled to his sister and the other woman.

Putting this in, because I don't know how long the site will be up for.
Very tempted to use his consumables, but I suspect it is a terrible idea. Justifying...

Shiro was busy running away from the demon whose attention he had managed to get when he heard the shout. A holy site! An excellent idea! That would be as good a place as any to have a chance at holding the minions of lower planes at bay. He looked around, luckily spotting the armored figure standing in a small open space of her own as she fought back the demons around her, not too far away from him.

Throwing another burst of white-gold flames at the demon at his back, the small monk ran towards the figure, hoping they’d reach safety before they were cut off from escape and overwhelmed.
