That works, excepting the point about being able to multi-class into Sorcerer. An awakening of sorts. Which deity would work best with that? Istus... be my lucky day! Pelor seems more mainstream, so maybe not him... someone more dynamic... sounds like Fharlanghn.

That was great feedback, by the way... Thank you!

I had a chance to look through more of the Greyhawk setting. I think I would like Tirnyan to be an Inquisitor of Trithereon, and using the longsword in combat. If the basic concept of Tirnyan is workable, I will flesh it out into a full character and background.

No problem.

I am ok with the Brawler/VMC Rogue and the multiclass Sorcerer. Just make sure you break down the level advancements as we move forward if you are selected. :)

This will be my first Class/VMC with a multiclass so that will be interesting. It is typically not recommended but looking over your advancement plan it doesn't seem like an issue if we manage it.

I have a new iteration for Grond - changed him into a Fighter for level 1. Levels 2 and onward should be Investigator (Empiricist). My take on the Investigator class for this specific instance, is that Grond would be very observant and intelligent, and like the SRD says 'Observing the world around them, they gain valuable knowledge about the situation they’re in, process that information using inspiration and deduction, and cut to the quick of the matter in unexpected ways....always evaluating situations they encounter, sizing up potential foes, and looking out for secret dangers...'

Grond:

Grond
Male half-orc fighter 1
CG Medium humanoid (human, orc)
Init +2; Senses darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +1
--------------------
Defense
--------------------
AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex)
hp 12 (1d10+2)
Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +3
Defensive Abilities sacred tattoo[APG]
--------------------
Offense
--------------------
Speed 30 ft. (20 ft. in armor)
Melee bardiche +3 (1d10+7/19-20) or
. . cold iron morningstar +3 (1d8+5)
Space 5 ft.; Reach 5 ft. (10 ft. with bardiche)
--------------------
Statistics
--------------------
Str 17, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 16, Wis 10, Cha 8
Base Atk +1; CMB +3; CMD 16
Feats Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Deadly Aim, Endurance, Iron Will, Power Attack
Skills Acrobatics -2 (-6 to jump), Climb +3, Craft (weapons) +7, Diplomacy +0, Intimidate +3, Knowledge (dungeoneering) +7, Knowledge (nature) +4, Linguistics +4, Perception +1, Sense Motive +1, Survival +4
Languages Common, Orc
SQ orc blood
Other Gear scale mail, bardiche[APG], cold iron morningstar, weaponsmithing tools
--------------------
Special Abilities
--------------------
Combat Expertise +/-1 Bonus to AC in exchange for an equal penalty to attack.
Combat Reflexes (3 AoO/round) Can make extra attacks of opportunity/rd, and even when flat-footed.
Darkvision (60 feet) You can see in the dark (black and white only).
Deadly Aim -1/+2 Trade a penalty to ranged attacks for a bonus to ranged damage.
Endurance +4 to a variety of fort saves, skill and ability checks. Sleep in L/M armor with no fatigue.
Orc Blood Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.
Power Attack -1/+2 You can subtract from your attack roll to add to your damage.
Sacred Tattoo +1 to all saves.

And now I have new doubts - on languages this time :D

Grond has an Int of 16 (3 bonus languages), so if I understand correctly:

- He can speak orcish;
- I have to spend one bonus to know how to write it;
- I spend another to know how to read/write and speak Common;
- I spend the third in whichever way I wish (probably Giant). To speak + read/write;
- I also spent a point in Linguistics (for Draconic). To speak + read/write.

Is this correct?

Albion/Grond. If I understand, not quite right.
As a half-orc with a 16 INT(3 Bonus points)
Race gives Common or Orc spoken: Orc(R/S)
The Fighter class does not give any bonus. (C)
Int bonus gives either spoken (S) or read/write (W), not both. So it would take two of the bonus points for Common(B S/W), leaving only one point for Giant(B/S) or (B/W).
And the rank in Linguistics gives both (making Linguistics a much more important skill than it seems to be): Draconic(T S/W)

Note: With the Natural Linguist feat the Int Bonus does give both S/W for each bonus point.

Now it's my turn to ask, Have I made any errors or muddied the waters?

I had time to review your character. This is just some feedback on the background and the fact you plan on going from fighter to investigator (empiricist). Which, honestly, is a big leap but even bigger with a half-orc coming from a tribe of orcs :). I don't see in the background how that leap is made and I would love to see that connection because that is something I would really want to blend into the story at some point. Who or what shaped that change for him... Are you planning on doing this as we move into the story line? I like to take snippets of each PC's background and shape it into the campaign. Naia's, D'ogryn's, and Ferona's have already been placed a bit. I also did Thout's and Zove's and I have plans for the others has we move forward.

Overall I like the build and the background.

Thanks for the submission!

Jack

Thanks for the feedback on Grond ALLENDM.

The change from Fighter to Investigator was left like that kind of on purpose, except for where I wrote 'The book his father gave him could both be his introduction to Alchemy, and also a formulae list. I was thinking it would be cool it would be written by a woman Grond suspects may be his mother, even if he is not sure. It would provide the tie in for his Investigator level when reaching 2'

I see the Fighter level as his basic indoctrination as a tribe combatant, but not what Grond is all about. This would be the baseline combat ability, like every one in his tribe would share out of sheer survivability needs.

I don't have an open and close definition on how he may 'become' an Investigator - on the one hand because I don't really see it as becoming something he was not before, but simply learning more about some skills he always had (hence the book as an heritage, and maybe some other stuff that could be added in game), and developing his potential.

I see most of the Investigator (Empiricist) abilities, as stuff which could be developed by study (like the alchemical extracts portion), or developed from base skills already existent, as most of them are more along the lines of Extraordinary, than Supernatural.

All of this to say, the only way I can describe him going from Fighter to Investigator (Empiricist), is Grond learning stuff he did not know before (maybe he was already studying that mysterious book way before his father died), and perfecting other skills he always had, like being perceptive, intelligent, observant, with a solid reasoning, etc.

As an example, for knowledges I was planning on maybe only ever giving him ranks on stuff he had contact with - say maybe no Arcana to start with, but as time goes by and he comes in contact with more and more of it, he picks up tidbits of it (Investigator Keen Recollection), and if he dedicates some time to it (spending skill ranks), he quickly becomes good on the subject.

Something along these lines, and... Other ideas you may have in mind? :D

@ALLENDM

You are obviously an amazing DM, and this is an incredible opportunity, world and campaign.

I will withdraw however, as not to muddy the waters for those who truly have an affinity for Greyhawk.

Thank you for all your time and consideration.

Good luck and happy gaming to all!

Best in all things,
Black Thom

Black Thom,

Thank you. Appreciate the candor and maybe next time we have an opening you will submit.

Best of luck!
Jack

All,

Just a reminder. As previously stated I plan on a deadline of 8/31 and currently we have two completed submissions. If I don't get any feedback on any more PC submissions being entered I will move forward on my selection process.

Just let me know you plan on submitting prior to 8/31.

Thanks!
Jack

Finally settled on an idea.
Sea-elf witch...will have the particulars ready a bit later.

Ah well, won't have time to finish.
Maybe next time!

Have fun!

Just a bump to say I am still here.

@ALLENDM, I will get my mechanical bits posted, though the only real mechanical decision for the class is what Inquisition to focus on. I'm thinking Spellkiller at the moment.

One question on the additional Racial traits as outlined in the first post / character creation house rules; are those in addition to the standard ones, or are we only allowed to vary two of the standard ones, which are replaced as normal?

Do you mean Spellbreaker? If so this would fit the setting well.

Racial Traits.

You receive the standard racial traits unless noted/modified. An example would be Dwarves. There are some tweaks to Greed, Stonecunning, and Stability. On top of those you receive two additional traits of your choosing. Some of those traits list count as two. The intent is to give you a bit more flexibility in crafting your PC.

Depending on the power level of the trait will determine if you 1) just add the additional trait, 2) replace it for one of the standard traits (will be pointed out in the description), 3) have to use 2 traits to receive that specific trait.

You are also open using the the PF traits as well as traits outside of the HR and PF as long as you run them by me and we discuss it. As long as it fits into the setting and has a purpose I am probably open to it.

I am not a fan of any trait that gives you additional traits.

Jack

EDIT: In the event you select a PF trait that states "THIS RACIAL TRAIT REPLACES" check with me. The intent of the traits in our campaign is to add to/flesh out the PC. In most cases there is no replacement unless stated specifically in the HR. This campaign setting is little tougher than usual due to the additional HR's I GM by and this balances out those HRs somewhat.

RECRUITMENT IS CLOSED.

If you posted or submitted and were not selected. I want to thank you for taking the time and interest.

We had two solid submissions posted that I really liked and it seems the party liked. I got some feedback and I have decided to take on both AGM Lemming's Narciso and Albion, The Eye's Grond.

Jack

I appreciate the recruitment and the world you are building, and wish luck to all the players, current and newly joined!
