I am presently playing in a Boku No Hero Academia (M&M game).

I'd like to run it on the boards.

Premise: Heroes are teenagers attending the Hero Course at UA, the premier educational institution for the Hero World. The game will chronicle the Heroes' journey from getting admission into UA and then to becoming a certified professional Hero.

What makes Boku No Hero Academia different from most hero games is the powers possessed by the Heroes often come with limitations, hence, the powers are called "Quirks."

For the moment, I'd like to know if there are people interested in such a game.

Silver Crusade

Interested.

Ditto.

I'm interested.

I'm interested, but I have no experience with Mutants and Masterminds.

As long as I don't have to eat any hair, I'm interested.

Dark Archive

1st off, wow!
This post managed to get on despite the website maintenance thing.

Second, thank you all for your interest.

Everyone have copies of the 3rd Ed M&M rules?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yep. There's also the SRD.

Dark Archive

Thanks Madcaster.

Alright, here's the pitch: Make PL8 characters - 120 pts. They are teenagers so they won't usually have lots of experience yet in the use of their powers so I want to see that in the build.

Thereafter, we shall run the Entrance Exam.

I started working on my character, but I need a few things cleared up.

How are powers purchased? I can find the descriptors and origins and stuff, but how do I actually pay for them?

Dark Archive

you have 120 points. each power has a point cost per rank with bonuses/disadvantages modifying the final cost.

Silver Crusade

It will probably take me a day or two to get a concept and character together.

How old should we be? "Teenager" covers a pretty wide range :-).

Any limitations on power sources?

Do you guys know if there is a pushback type power? Or how would you say do the equivalent of a bull rush or similar.

Silver Crusade

I'm now a little confused. Are we actually in the Boku No Hero universe (which I know nothing about except what I've gleaned from the Wiki) or are you just using that for inspiration and we're in the usual M&M universe?

How focused should the character be? For example, one of the characters I'm thinking of would be a character able to transform into several animals. Is that too broad?

In a similar vein, I'm building a kid who can control air. He has several powers at rank 7: element control for a push of air, flight, blast for a concentrated air punch, and protection for a wind barrier. I picture him being full of arrogance and raw power, but lacking in control. He can't use air to manipulate things in any delicate manner without serious concentration. Which is why he's in school.

Would this character fit in?

We will be playing in the Boku No Academia Universe (albeit an alternate one, with you guys the stars). The powers or quirks have a biological, genetic origin. We won't be having masters of the mystic arts in this game.

M&M 3rd Ed will just be the rules set.

I have no problem with a Mimic character (transforms into several animals).

Dark Archive

Vrog, our PL for the game is 8 so the skill modifiers should not exceed +16 (8 times 2). This should free up a few hero points for you to boost for fighting to above -2

Also can u input your defenses and offense stats. Thanks

PS if your trying to make a PC who teleports in reaction to an imminent attack, you can try this:

Blink Teleport: Reaction Teleport (imminent attack) 5 points per rank.

Yup he'd fit right in. Wind Master, is it?

As an example, this is my character Diamond, submitted for another Boku No Hero Academia Game.

Diamond

Strength 10 Agility 2 Fighting 6 Awareness 1 Stamina 10 Dexterity 0 Intellect 0 Presence 2
Powers Enhanced Strength 10, Enhanced Stamina 10 Immunity 20 (Life Support, being moved), Impervious Toughness 10, Leaping 10
Advantages Accurate Attack Ultimate Effort (Toughness Check)
Skills Expertise: School Studies +4 (+4) Perception +4 (+5) Ranged Combat: Throw +6 (+6)
Offense Unarmed +6, Close, Damage 10
Initiative +2 Defense Dodge 6 Fortitude 10 Parry 6 Toughness 10 Will 6
Complications Motivation—Responsibility: Diamond takes his powers very seriously and believes he must use them wisely.
Accident: Diamond is on guard against causing damage to his surroundings, but sometimes he slips.

Power Point Totals: Abilities 22 + Powers 80 + Advantages 2 + Skills 7 + Defenses 9 = 120

I did miss my defenses. I'll get my character reposted when I get back to work on Monday, as I built the character there and still have the notes I made for him there.

As far as his skills go, the SRD shows that the max skill bonus is 10+PL. I don't have a copy of the book anymore, but I seem to remember that being the case as well.

As to his teleport, I want him to be able to use it both actively and reactively. I considered giving him a stronger teleport with absolutely no control over it, but that would not make for a useful character at all (since I would never be able to participate in any combat).

Dark Archive

Anyone having trouble making their build, please feel free to bug me for help.

I'm not sure I understand the limits correctly. Attack and Effect, for example. So, I have Attack 10. The Damage power than can't be more than 6 then?

And a check if I get the Alternate Effect extra correctly: I buy some Effect for 20 points. I want add a couple of Alternates to it. So, I pay for each Alternate 1 points, and then for each one I get 20 points pool, and only one power can be active at the time? If I choose Dynamic Alternate, I pay 2 points for each, then I have 20 points pool, which can be divided among the Alternates to have multiple powers active at the same time?

One very useful tool to build your character is Hero Lab.

The demo is free. You can't save a character with the free demo but you can at least build a legal character fairly quickly.

Silver Crusade

Ok, I've got a character (not yet complete) that I thought I'd pass by you to see if it is approximately ok (I've always found that in Mutants and Masterminds it is best to coordinate with the GM early :-)).

I've no idea if this character is TOO flexible for this campaign. Or perhaps too limited. If he is, please tell me :-). Note, I understand the PL limits and know that no form can ever exceed them.

In world terms, Robert has always been absolutely fascinated by animals, dinosaurs when younger, all animals now. He reads about them constantly. Both his father and his mother had powers related to animals (his mother could communicate with animals, his father was a shifter)

He was overjoyed when his powers manifested the way that they did.

He became innately preternaturally aware of his environment, quick and strong [Game Note - As manifested in stats and abilities]

He also gained 3 strongly related powers
1) He can very rapidly (free action) manifest reasonably minor animal powers. He can grow fur, grow claws, grow scales, etc. His body visibly transforms. This ability does NOT let him change his size (so, no flying except maybe to glide a little, no shrinking, etc). This is represented by a Variable pool that will hold things like senses, claws, a bit of toughness.
2) He can change into different animals, often somewhat enhanced versions of those animals. This is a SECOND variable pool for shapechanging. Other than his actual stats the shapechanged animals are ONLY the animal itself (ie, can't combine the two pools). To change into an animal he has to spend time AND understand the animal he is changing into quite well. The latter is represented by a skill check limitation (note, done to show that he is an inexperienced character rather than to gain points)

3) Only when shapechanged into a particular animal he can communicate with animals of that kind.

Sorry for quality of sheets below. They are snipped images since I don't own M&M3 on Herolab :-(. Will come up with proper BBtext sheet if character is basically ok

Zackary Agnes is a young man of Greek descent. He grew up listening to the old myths of the legends of his homeland. He wants to be part of the next generation of heroes and looks forward to the day he becomes experienced enough to fight the forces of evil. However, he is impulsive and lets his love of action and dreams of adventure influence his decision.

Played with it a bit, and I think I got the Limits and stuff.

Will create a character today or tomorrow. For now I'm thinking someone naturey - vines, snares and stuff. Like Ibara's quirk or the dude in the beginning with trees.

Quirk: Life hack is actually two beings in one, CICADA and Shu. CICADA is the source of all of their powers, though the Heroic Form cannot be activated unless the two are emotionally in sync. Problem is both of them are exact opposites in almost every way.

Shu Q. Megami was born under a scientist and a doctor. They had high hopes for him, especially when his Quirk manefested into CICADA. Though Shu would rather do things the easy way than the right way, which is a complete opposite of CICADA who has a bigger set of morals and moral code. Because of this, both of them tend to bicker a lot.
The way their powers work is that CICADA can possess an object and give it a voice. Likewise, I created Machine Control based off of Mind Control, so they do have a lot of expertise in that department, but their super form is something that I plan on upgrading as time goes on. Each upgrade requiring more and more from the duo. Likewise, the super form is when CICADA possesses Shu. Both of them combine their abilities into one being, problem is these two have to be emotionally in sync (like what the complication mentions), basically think the Crystal Gem fusion in Steven Universe (wasn't where the inspiration from where this character comes from, but it's a good fit none-the-less).

Ignore the post above. I decided that I was being silly and joined the pools into one.

Robert Fuller has always been absolutely fascinated by animals, dinosaurs when younger, all animals now.

He can change into a wide variety of different animals, usually somewhat enhanced versions of those animals (ie, likely better in combat). He can do this very quickly and at will (although he can only change into animals that he has seen and/or studied. Books on dinosaurs do NOT count :-)). Other than being better than most of the animals in combat he is limited to what the animal could do (so, for example, he can buy toughness to represent hide but only could conceivably buy impervious with something like a Rhinoceros, could fly only as fast as the animal, etc).

When shapechanged into a particular animal he can communicate with animals of that kind. Even when not shapechanged he has a great understanding of animals and can often get them to do his bidding.

Gonna rock with sonic powers and enhanced senses, got a fun concept.

Mega interested!

Okay so I want to build a kid whose got a quirk that has effects similar to a character from the Infamous series of games: Neon. The powers were high intensity neon lasers that left glowing sear marks on surfaces, and she could move faster while leaving neon-traced afterimages. I'm thinking if I had to isolate it down to one effect I would go with the neon laser blast things.

I'm trying to think of how to set this up as a character, anyone got any suggestions? I was thinking that he would have neon light strips growing on his skin along his arms and legs which would be a physical mutation that lets him use these powers.

Laser blasts - Damage power with Increased Range extra.

Moving faster - Speed power.

You can add some Alternates to Damage, like blinding (Limited Affliction).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sounds good. I think that I'm going to make him a sort of glass cannon; hard to hit but can't handle getting hit very well. Neon lights aren't known for being sturdy.

OH! I can do a neon 'lightsaber' power!

Here's what I've got of Toshi "The Neon Kid". Didn't end up needing to be a glass cannon, and decided against the neon lightsaber power.

Since I can't find my original sheet showing my character build, and after doing research I see that teleportation apparently isn't a power in the universe, I think I'll work on another character. I should have it created shortly.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Teleportation is a power in the BNHA universe. One of the main villains has it.

Silver Crusade

Dotting. I have a healy/buffing idea, I just need to study the rules to see how that would work, and binge some episodes of the anime to get the setting.

Weird. I must have missed that.

Upon reflection, I think I'm still going to change my character to a telepath. I'm not planning on taking mental attack to start with, but I think I'm going to play around with the Affliction power to be able to put people to sleep, or blind them, that sort of thing.

I should be able to get my character posted by tomorrow at the latest.

Dark Archive

Those with control powers without the subtle feature kindly me your activation gestures. Thanks

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Well, here's what I had in mind. When in Level One (his default form), when Shu wants to activate Machine Control, he sends CICADA into the machine, usually in the form of pointing but sometimes, if haste is needed or he's feeling impatient with CICADA, Shu can throw him like a baseball. If the fusion is successful, the machine generates an electrical aura shows around the machine more towards the top, looking kind of like spiked up Vegeta hair.

In Level Two (when the two are now considered the same being), Shu generates a ball of lightning and directs it towards the machine. It generates the same aura as before, and he can still hear the voice of the machine.

A model in elementary and middle school, Joseph applied to Hero Course at UA, hoping to make a difference like his hero, Eraserhead.

When he left the world of modelling, his competition there continually called him a "poser", "pretender", and "wannabe". When he submitted his application, the person who took it told him that he should stop wasting his looks and become an actor or model, and many other people have told him the same thing.

Joseph will not be stopped, however.

Background
Fae's first manifestation of her Quirk was when she sprouted tiny butterfly wings on her back at 5 years old. Soon afterwards she was also conjuring a glowing, multicolored "glitter". She doesn't really remember when she first discovered that the glitter could heal other kids' wounds by transfrerring them to her body, but she would routinely leave an active playground with far more than her share of scrapes and bruises. She always healed extraordinarily quickly from these injuries, however.

The past several years have been troublesome for her, as even though her wings have been growing steadily, to the point where she can fly, the growth of the rest of her body has been slowing dramatically. She isn't much larger now at 14 than when she was 8. She was teased enough throughout middle school about this that she has developed an incredibly introverted personality, so much so that she has trouble summoning her powers in front of large numbers of strangers.

One final note: She has absolutely no idea that she posesses the Immortality power. Like most people, she has never died before!

Just dropping in to say that I am also very interested and plan to submit a character if you still have room. I am currently thinking over concepts right now.

Let me know if there's anything I need to change up or alter, or if there's any questions I can answer or expand upon.

I'm fine with the stats. Just a short description and background will be great.
