What happens to the world when the heroes fail and die?

Well, Ash.. and Nikolaus de Shade were also working on some kind of tri-part goddess avatar incarnation for some kind of primordial goddess who was banished(?) from Golarion.

Yeah - our linked submissions are the Maiden and Crone personnas of an un-named and largely undefined goddess from way, way back who made a deal never to return to Golarion as long as her various avatars never died there and therefore never became subject to the River of Souls.

We died fighting the Worldwound and so the deal was broken.

We've never actually defined anything about the goddess, just that she exists and thats where our Godbound-ness comes from.

Pin was invited to be part three of the trinity, which is why hes asking lots of these questions.

I think we can modify that to fit the cannon gods like this: you are being deceived. You think you are the emissary of a long forgotten goddess. You are not. There are several gods who are sneaky enough to easily justify such shenanigans. If you don't want to know who your true sponsor is I can choose for you and reveal it at a later date. ;)

The point of leaving her unnamed and undefined in the background was to give the GMs hooks into our avatars and let them control the reaction of the remaining gods etc. We're distinctly separate from our 'parent' as it were, and know even less than the various eldest gods of golarion might about her. In our sketch she predates the age of creation, and her banishment contract is the point at which the age of creation begins, but that could have happened shortly into the age of creation if the GMs prefer.

If you want my personal take which doesn't have to be cannon it's just how I sketched her out to figure out a suitable fragment - Maybe she's the early creation impulse, which would have naturally been the balance to Rovagug, but realized that if the world was defined as creation/destruction there would never be room for more, so she agreed with other dieties to step aside to make room, on the condition that they shepherd her mortal presences through the ages to avoid making rovagug stronger.

Anyways, that's a bit of backstory and explanation for why three women keep being born in sequence and ending up adventuring together, and the plan is to go fix the worldwound and/or investigate shelyn's dissappearance. The wound because we failed, shelyn because we have some intangible obligation (hook goes here).

@GM Choon I'd be happy to go with that. Actually sounds like a lot of fun rp'ing. Would also make sense with my race switch.

One tidbit that seems to be getting forgotten is that the premise is that you were a mortal, died in the failure of an AP, and given a second chance. You've been given godlike powers.

Being a god. A reborn god. A reincarnated god. A fragment of a god. The long lost eternal lover of a god. Child of a god. Parent of a god. Emissary of a god. Herald of a god. Sibling of a god. <insert synonym for any of the above here> of a god.

Is a no. This does not fit being new to godlike powers. This does not fit discovering how to become a god, if you so choose.

We are not necessarily looking at every background yet. If someone has something that isn't going to be okay, we're not going to jump all over that until we start going through applications.
We are addressing comments and questions.

That someone else has 3rd party material in their character doesn't make it okay for you to. That just means you both will either not be selected or asked to make a change.

After Monday we'll start looking at characters since that was the deadline provided.

Ah.

I'll withdraw then. Good luck.

With that in mind, I'm going to need to change my application, as I had written Kei as the child of Sarenrae. That's okay though, I can pull out one of my favorite NPCs, a character who is a half-orc (and technically half dwarf) and due to be played as an actual character, Karen.

I'll get a write-up for her a bit later today and get her submitted. Mechanically, she was a cleric of irori 10/monk 2, who died during the Carrion Crown AP. She will have the words of health and earth.

Sczarni

What if one of your characters was a tool of a god or mystical force, or whatever, but has thus become a demigod of their own? I'm going to slide Paladin under tools of god too, just because. Just because I want to call them tools, eheheh.

Meanwhile, flexing the guns, "Am I not a god? Are these guns not godly?"

If Sarenrae had a child, who would be the father?

Anastasia Vekova, died in Shattered Star, Sun and Night words, still interested.

Backstory:

Once there was a Dwarf who was a master brewer. He worked hard at his trade, married a Dwarf from a good smithing family, and had a single daughter.

Unlike other Dwarves, this master brewer took talented students, regardless of race. This made him an outcast among his clan, but they still wanted his talents (as no one in his clan could brew with even a tenth of his ability), so they overlooked his proclivities and gave him his own place on the surface to produce his beer.

Unknown to his clan, the master brewer had taken on an Orc apprentice. The orc was a talented brewer who specialized in using unusual ingredients to make new beers that had tasted that had never been had before, so the Master took him as an apprentice, teaching his secrets. His daughter was intrigued by the orc, which blossomed into friendship, which then bloomed into love.

Realizing that her father would not allow their marriage, the student finished his training and made his way into the world, saving enough money to purchase an inn and tavern called the drunken dragon. After a few months, the daughter told her father she was leaving on a pilgrimage, for she had been anointed as a priestess of Irori, the god of perfection and knowledge. She made a beeline for the inn, where she then cajoled the nearest priest of Irori to marry them.

Years passed, and they had a healthy baby girl, which they named Karen after one of the servers who they made fast friends with.

Karen grew up in a tavern, surrounded by travelers from around the world, and two parents who loved her a great deal. when she was 10 she started helping her father with the bar, and by the time she was 13 she was waiting tables, breaking up drunken fights, and excelling at the unarmed combat training her mother gave her.

One night, when Karen was 15 she met Christian. he was handsome and charming, sure, but he was also mysterious. He told the most interesting stories, and he treated her like an adult, and with a good amount of respect. Christian was a musician, but he was also an adventurer, travelling the world attempting to, as he put it, "save it from itself." Karen was in love, but not with Christian. She was in love with the idea of one person making a difference. She was in love with adventuring.

Finally finding a goal in life, she threw herself headlong into her training with her mother, culminating in her ordination as a priestess of Irori. During her training journey, she saved a scholar from Ustalov named Professor Lorrimor from bandits in the woods. She then escorted him to the nearest town, wished him well, and then went on to her next adventure. A few months later, she received word that he had passed, but that he had also left her something of his estate. She made her way to Ustalov, not because she needed the money, but because she wanted to mourn the man's passing. She met several other adventurers whose lives he had touched, and they formed a group to investigate the strange occurances going on at the closed prison, where she proved her worth to the group and saved them from the myriad incorporeal threats within.

Continuing to travel together, they proved the innocence of a created man, dealt with lycanthropes and unnatural beings before making their way to Caliphas at the behest of a constable to find an undead killer who was ritually murdering their citizens. It was during this investigation that Karen lost her life.

While she was protected from being turned into a vampire, that same protection did not stop the master vampire from draining her heart's blood and leaving her still body on the floor. He then made short work of her companions, turning them into vampires and gaining new members of his army.

Karen's last memories were of looking at the head of the vampire as his face was nestled into her neck, unable to stop him from taking her life. In the space of a breath, she was being poked awake by a boy with a pitchfork.

Likewise I will withdraw - the concept was very much a group one, so without Ash there's not much point me staying.

Thanks for the time and consideration.

Loc is still in the game as well! He dies during carrion crown and has picked up the words of death and knowledge.

Do we have any players who either are going to begin play with the Sorcery word, or plan on taking it?

It's looking like we're going to need to re-work most of the gifts for it(as we aren't using the Godbound magic system), so if we don't have to worry about it now, or even at all, that would be helpful to know.

I didn't pick my words yet, monkeygod (hoping to do that together with the GMs, if and when chosen), but I don't think Sorcery was one that I'd choose anyway... Too different from my concept of charming drunken troublemaker :)

Sczarni

I don't think there were any at all. Most are sword, bow, alacrity. No one has selected sorcery as a word, but as far as plans go, I can't speak for others. I might give it a look later, but right now, I don't plan on taking it.

Yea, I don't recall any saying they were going to start with Sorcery, but I wanted to double check, plus ask if players had plans to eventually take it.

no plans for sorcery here, not now, not later.

I most likely won't be taking the sorcery word, I will probably take Fertility though.

No socerery for my sorceress, not now or down the road. Deception and Fertility is my area, and even if I get others I'm not really planning on those lines.

Also, not planning to go with the Sorcery word.

By the way, I reworked my character a bit; expanded the background and have most of the crunch completed. I still haven't allocated my gear, since I'm still waiting to see if there's any plans to add that signature item. But I've picked out most of the items I plan to buy, so that won't take very long.

Endurance and Sword here, followed by... maybe Journeying? Haven't decided much on the others.

No signature items will be available to start, however, if you happen to know what kind of item (Sword, shield, locket, crown, etc) would be best for your character, that would be appreciated if included.

Can you explain what you mean exactly by 'signature items' - how they work, what they do, what the general concept of them is? I've never been in a game that included such before so I'm a little vague on the principle. Thanks.

For right now, think of them like you would Thor's hammer, Cap's shield, Batman's batarangs/utility bet, the Lanterns' rings, etc.

Remember, you're godlings and may even become full deities. They have favored weapons, but in real world myth, they also other items too. Hermes, for example, is famous for his winged helmet and sandals.

ah okay...thanks! I might want to wait before deciding on something though if that's okay... or can something we already own 'grow' into our signature item in time?

I'm not even sure I'm going to be using the concept, but if you have an idea that's all I'm looking for right now.

And yes, should I make use of this idea, something you own could absolutely become your sig item. In fact, I would prefer it that way!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For Karen, her signature item would be her locking mug that her mother gave her. It's a Dwarven design that allows dwarves to carry beer with them where they go.

I'd like to have Nordri's boots as his signature item, he's got Boots of Striding and Springing. We could say that they'd be BoS&S to begin with for the starting equipment cost. Once he was brought back to life his non-magical masterwork dwarven boots began to become imprinted by his godhood. I'd love to see them grow in power and into his symbol.

As a rogue and an archer, speed and positioning is key to him, whether to fight, avoid a fight, scout or spy.

Hm, an interesting question! I will have to ponder, a diplomat doesn't go for the normal options like a sword after all.

Dark Archive

If I had to choose I would say it would have to be either his spellbook or, if he could find it, the skull of his old corpse.

Re: signature items -- understood.

If you decide to go that route, I might choose the rapier (being a swashbuckler), but that seems too obvious. Instead, I might go with a gambling object, like dice or a deck of cards. Hmmm...

Anyway, my gear is pretty much chosen, but I might tinker with my choices a bit.

Anastasia's signature item would be her armor.

Thinking about it, Lian's signature item will be... something she is given following a negotiation. Doesn't matter *what*, but a symbol from a nation or queen or something.

Four's signature item would be her tattoos, as each contract she undertakes at the orders of Magdh or Magdh's subordinates is recorded somewhere on her body in Sylvan lettering, resembling Celtic pre and post Roman/Christian knot and spiral work, which solidifies into the Triskelion that is emblazoned on her chest. That symbol in Sylvan represents the immortality of the fey by showing the cycle of past, present, and future is simply a circle the fey pass through (since part of Magdh's portfolio is fate, and also triplets. Based on some research, it looks like Paizo intended her to be the fey equivalent of the Norns/Fates for the Eldest, along with the triple goddess you see with Celtic war goddesses like the Morrigan.)

@stormcrow27 Would you please consider something else for your potential signature item (singular)? A common plot device is the quest to find an item, and/or recover a stolen item. Not so easy with a tattoo.

Thought about it a lot and decided Mugmuff's signature item would be his shinobi shozoku... if that's okay.

You can always carve it out of someone's chest, or transfer the tattoo via magic to some other source of skin or parchemt etc. Waking up with a giant scar on your chest where you once had the symbol of eternity at is a great hook. But it's easy enough to make it an amulet or a brooch. A brooch is fine.

Update to Four

Words Command and Time

Gifts

Time
Scythe of the Ages-Divine Wrath
Reflex of Regret
Immediate Foresight
Look Forward

Command
Thrall Making Shout

Character build coming later, probably tonight. I also need a ruling if that the old school AC of 3 becomes a constant +7 insight bonus from Immediate foresight, and if we're aware of said gifts, since it may affect equipment purchase etc.

Definitely not aware of any divinity upon waking up, though you do feel 'different', but are likely to chalk it up to being resurrected.

Little bit more info on that:

You all know you died. You know how you died. You remember your old life *very* vaguely. Whether or not that will change over gameplay is both up to you, and yet to be revealed.

You also remember your time in the boneyard, though again, it's very unclear. *IF* you worship a deity, especially as a divine class, you also recall meeting said god. You have no more memory than that you met him/her, however.

If I had to choose for Ni-Jin, first thing that comes to thought his his bow. (Although, I dont know if I'd want it to be the "item".)

Based on my characters story, I'm going to choose his disguise kit. It would have been something he used quite regularly and would hold some value to him in his every day life.

For a signature item, Ken'ichi's would almost certainly be his sword. It's likely an ancestral blade passed down among his clan, and it serves as his weapon, his shield, his badge of office... It's his entire life, in some ways even more so than the average samurai's relationship with their sword. (In fantasy pseudo-Japan, anyway.)

Sczarni

Aha, the Thrall Making Shout. Well, I'll look at that later. My gifts are already spent.

Nothing has changed with my characters, as I figured they had some vague recollection, but neither are directly divine. Both are arcane, strangely enough.

As for possible, signature items:

The Regulator has an easy one, and its his riveted helmet. He use to look like this: The Regulator So a helm that was relatively the same design that fit a vanara instead would be his signature item.

Mandello's signature item would be a bit more difficult...hmm. Maybe a golden key around a chain, a testament to true faith!

DMs:

I hope the voice in my head is something you see as fun and unique, rather than a deal-breaker.

A few more thoughts along those lines for your consideration:

-- I'm flexible regarding the gods/demon lords who are involved with Devon's return. Right now, I'm thinking he paid lip service to Cayden Cailean (who's now dead of course), but wasn't a strong practitioner of the faith. Most of his return was fueled by Noticula, with a bit of interference from Pharasma. But I could go with a bunch of others: Calistria/Noticula, Desna/Lamashtu, etc. Whatever you think works best for the campaign.

-- I'm thinking Auruvel the Drow was an Inquisitor of whatever entity she worshipped.

-- Unless you choose otherwise, the Drow voice in my head won't have any game effect (crunch/rules), but may have some influence on his personality as time progresses. Have you seen Farscape? I'm thinking of the Harvey character in Crichton's brain.

-- I'm also not married to the two words I've chosen if you think there's another pair better suited. I went with Luck because Devon's a gambler, but Night because of the Noticula/Darkness/Shadow demon connection. I could easily go with Passion or something else if you want the Drow to have had a different patron.

-- I had asked about whether you would approve a 'Drow elite' sub-race and still haven't heard an answer. However, I found a bunch of Drow Nobility feats in the ARG and took them with the bonus even-level feats. But they only grant the additional spell-like abilities, so if you agree to the 19-point Drow elite class, with those feats I'm actually a full Drow noble. Kind of cool, huh?

OK, I am totally sorry, I forgot to post this, and I feel really bad now, cuz it's kinda important, but as has been said many times, there's a lot going on with this game, and it just completely slipped my mind.

Feat Tax

This is being used. Again I am so sorry I forgot to post this, but we are just starting the process of choosing candidates, so you have plenty of time to change up your feats, should it be necessary.

OOooh, the anticipation is agonizing!!! Will go read about feat tax now....

Nice MG. That article is pretty good. I'll look through Karen's build and see if there is anything that I need to cut out.

Made changes to Mugmuff's feats and tricks due to the feat tax modifications listed. Please recheck if you've already reviewed him... thanks!

Sczarni

Oh, sure.

The Regulator will swap Power Attack with Desperate Battler.

Mandello, I believe, is fine. But with free Power attack everywhere, I'll keep that in mind.

Nice, I like the no-feat-tax variant.

Not that it applies to my sorceress but it'll help the martials.
