Oh wait, no, clearly the bedroom would be the room with all the beds. Not sure what I was thinking there. Cromwin will still follow Grok.

I am afraid not Maurie, there are a few things that allow you to deliver holy water via weapons, but none are nearly so convenient.

Naurgost settles down on the driest spot he can find. Grok enters the infirmary room with its rows of rusted bed frames, but nothing emerges. Cromwin can likely recall that it was not until he passed between the beds that the haunt began.

Brin turns back to Zove.

"Something to take the pain from this area. If however temporary."

Grok walks straight up to one of the beds, his breath increasing further in speed and depth with every step he takes. He walks all the way up and down next to each bed, come on, come on, come on, come on, he mutters to himself.

Cromwin will ride back over to the entrance to the plague house, taking care not to ride down any of his companions filling the hall. He will pause at the door to the infirmary, and thrust his torch inside, looking for Grok. "Grok, be careful!"

She looks around at the people of the Ramblehouse, some she knows well...she watches them read the note, one by one and how their faces change. ...is Brin some kind of priest?

As Grok boldly enters she fumbles fast, juggling the lantern and her tight packed sack, for that blessed draught, sticking it firm between her belt and belly.

As soon as Grok moves between the beds the screaming burning spectral plague victims are back howling their agony once more their gaping mouths full of fire and ash.

Both Grok and Cromwin are unable to contain their terror and run from the room. Forewarned and without seeing the terrible sights the rest of the party do not seem to be effected though the screams are certianly disturbing. Naurgost sits up ears perking in alarm, and Anvil whickers and dances nervously.

Going to assume that is after the haunt has faded Brin.

Both Cromwin and Grok recover their nerve swiftly and are able to rejoin the group. Brin's sitting on the bedframe, other than threading his trousers to a new layer of thick grime and rust, does not have any effect. It seems the haunt will take some time to reoccur.

Nope, cool as a cucumber. Ha, yeah. That's a good assumption.

Grok doesn't even notice the screaming, burning figures for the first split second. Then a wave of fear which seems far, far worse than it did earlier in the day hits him. RRRRRRRAAAAAHH Grok screams. At first it sounds almost like he might be about to join a battle, but gradually he gets slightly quieter, shriller, and more helpless as the magical terror forces its way into him.

He bursts out of the room, still carrying his bow but giving absolutely no thought to its use, forgetting that he even carries it. He races through the hall and out of the house, far out into the plain surrounding Trunau. He stumbles in the night and falls, clawing his way back up again to run still further. Then he collapses again, exhausted.

Another helpless scream pierces the night, choking off rapidly. Grok returns to the Plague House with a good bit of mud all over him, cracking his knuckles as he walks wordlessly through the door and into the room. His eyes are rimmed with red and puffy looking, and his jaw quivers faintly, but he keeps moving at his normal rate, perhaps a bit faster. He leans against one of the beds, in the exact position that he was when the apparition first appeared. His whole body is tense, like he expects a blow every moment, and he has to force his hands down from a protective position to the aggressive way they hung at his sides moments before.

We, well, the uh...the the the the uh, things are gone now. Let's carry on. He has trouble with the words, stuttering slightly and looking like he might be about to burst into tears. He knocks an arrow and walks forward, then back. He kneels next to Naurgost and puts his hand in its mouth. Bite It nibbles gently in playful fashion. Grok reaches around and hugs the wolf tight against him, then stands back up.

You lead the way, he says, to no one in particular.

Lol, autocorrect's shenanigans are always great.

Cromwin trots up riding Anvil, bright red as the fear fades and turns into embarassment. I can't believe I fled, but it was just so...so intense. Cromwin rides Anvil back up into the room, muttering under his breath. "...bloody hellfire ghost wall pain....".

Cromwin looks around the group, seeing Grok return as well. "Well, we've braved the spirits a second time." He sighs, wincing slightly. "Some of us better than others. We may as well see what the trap door holds. Brin, would you care to open it? I would like to stay mounted in case something comes flying out to attack us."

M Human - Ulfen 3 Skald [HP: 17/25 | AC:18| T: 11 | FF: 17 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +2 / Will: +2 | Init: +1 / Perc: +3 Raging Song:7/9

"Wait...it could be a trap." Zove carefully inspects the crack around the portal.

Brin opens the trapdoor easily, seeing it has a bolt on the underside, which was not drawn to. Zove shines her lantern down revealing a sturdy looking ladder, that seems to be made from newer unburnt wood. Embedded into the floor of the chamber revealed below is a ten-foot-diameter granite emblem of a faded gold and white longsword. Four passages lead out of the chamber in different directions. A portcullis blocks the southern exit, and a sturdy wooden door leads west. A small chest and decrepit bookshelf face one another from opposite walls.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Cromwin peers over the edge, holding his torch to light up the chamber. "Hm. Getting Anvil down there would be....difficult. I will leave him up here if need be, but I believe there were also stairs heading down over on the south side of the building. " Cromwin looks down, then over at the southern wall of the room. "Thirty feet, forty feet maybe? Maybe a little more? If it connects, it shouldn't be too far."

Cromwin looks down at the ladder. "New construction. That is not a good sign. I can't think of any good reason anyone from Trunau would have built this. Come on, lets see if the stairs where Grok fought the rats make their way to this room." If there is no objection, Cromwin will ride Anvil over to the door on the south of the room, and open it, looking for the stairs down.

Zove takes a moment to gaze down into the chamber using the divination magic of her elven ancestors, before closing the hatch and trying to scoot some of the furniture over it. "...guh...egh...let's block this so nothing can get out when we're down there...help...what the hell, is this bolted down?" her bony biceps show no signs of muscle development.

Grok helps move some of the heavy iron beds over the latch, Naurgost sitting on the pile when he's done and panting like he was the one doing the heavy lifting.

Be real great if we trap them up against these. What if you need to run again? You'll fight.

Grok walks back around to the northern door near the entrance, eyeing it suspiciously before heading back around to Cromwin. Maybe we should check the rest of the floor before heading down, wouldn't want to fight too many foes at once.

Cromwin will ride Anvil back out into the hall, and over to the northern door. There, he will carefully examine the door, and listen to see if he can hear anything on the far side.

You cannot ready outside of combat. A quick examination of that logic shows it to be farcical.

The narrow hallway beyond the door immediately proves too low for for a mounted Cromwin - though he could take a prone position on Anvil's back and pass. Most of the room beyond is in shambles, and the western wall has collapsed in a heap of rubble. A rickety staircase to the north east leads to a wooden loft upstairs; the area beneath the loft filled with fallen beams, jumbled bricks, and other debris.

A word of caution specifying searches is probably a poor choice in games mechanic terms. There have been a few things you have missed because of it - if you are not on a tight time line its probably better to do a none specific search of a room.

As he passes by Cromwin sees a panel in the wall to his right that seems to be hanging off what on closer inspection proves to be a hinge. Resolving to look a it once he descends.

Based on Cromwin's initial Perception roll he should have spotted this, but probably filed it away with the sight of the centipedes - not like the GM just forgot *shifty eyes*

Most of this wooden loft is still standing—this is the only remnant of the building’s destroyed second floor. The roofless chamber is completely exposed to the elements and filled soaking with soot-covered debris, fire-damaged furnishings, and charred wooden beams. A large, soot-covered brass statue of a goddess with a longsword, Iomedae, in one hand and a kite shield in the other stands precariously on the northern edge of the platform above the rickety flight of rain slicked stairs.

No longer active, GM left

I'm trying to go through real quick and then do a very thorough search of the whole building once we've cleared it out. I figure clearing out the rest of the aboveground floors first is probably a good idea, so there's no sneak attacks.

Would make the place less appetizing, though, for odd townsfolk to come and use for a bed. And kill anything corporeal. Grok walks to what is now the roof, standing in the rain and looking about to see if there's anything other than the statue.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

A reasonable method, I just don't like you guys to loose out :)

There is nothing of obvious worth save for the tarnished statue, and you are unlikely to find a buyer for such a substantial Iomedaian piece given Tyari has already said she would not want it.

Momentarily intrigued by the odd brightly colored markings of the vermin, Zove turns her attention to the rest of the room. looking around with detect magic...and will do so pretty much always forever

"I know that she said she would not want us to bring it back, but do you think we should at least place it in a more stable spot once we have finished searching this place?" Maurie asks her companions as she gestures to the statue. "It looks like a safety hazard now, and while some might argue that being slain by a crashing statue of the Inheritor might be correlated to her will, I would argue that it is both more related to the stability of the place and a waste of a perfectly beautiful statue."

Maurie thinks a minute. "Perhaps I could venture out and secure it to a few ropes that Grok, Cromwin and Anvil then use to pull it down in a more controlled fashion."

No longer active, GM left

Grok shoulders his pack, pulling out a long silk rope and handing it to Maurie. Should be strong enough, just don't fall. Maybe use Cromwin's as well, to be sure. Grok pools the rope at his feet and begins spooling it out to Maurie.

Statue's not something the folk'll want to buy, but maybe a traveling merchant would give us a good price. The bronze alone must be worth a few dozen coins, though it'd be best if we could sell it as is.

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

Maurie takes the rope. "No, I have some myself if we need more. And we aren't selling it. I was rather thinking of setting it before the ruined entrance... perhaps even work with Brin and Zove's mom to get an inscription made for the bottom of it, commemorating those who lost their lives here. Allow those with memories of the fallen to pay their respects without having to enter." The halfling shrugs as she begins to carefully make her way to the statue. "I think they deserve that much honor even if their faith cannot spare the manpower to get this place exorcised of its memories."

My intent is to take 10s on acrobatics on the way across as needed, which with my bonus nets a 20, unless it isn't stable enough to do so (in which case I will roll).

"I think we need to focus, that statue has stood there more than 5 decades, it isn't going anywhere. We have one million years to build a memorial. There's something funny going on in the basement here...if Grok's right there won't be anyone left to remember." quips Zove impatiently, her wet hair streaming down her face and breath vaguely visible as a fog "Plus, that's heavy and I'm cold. Can we just go downstairs..."

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

While it is probably possible to lower the statue down the rain coursing down make it clear this is an inopportune time to do so. Clearly lowering a five hundred pound statue would be dangerous in the current conditions.

Zove's detect magic discovers nothing, and once explored the secret panel reveals only the empty space beneath the other staircase, filled with thick cobwebs, and nothing of interest despite a thorough search.
