I think there is a certain point where our minds move from filling in details to seeking out inconsistencies, the sweet spot is the point where the effect is as realistic as possible while still being able to enlist us an accomplice in the illusion.

GM, not now, but at some point would you be cool with me pre-purchasing scroll scribing materials to have on hand for scribing out in dungeons? I am probably being over paranoid by the lack of arcane bond, but hate not having something prepped that's useful. I would keep it in my inventory like:

"scroll scribing materials, 50 gp worth"

and dip into as needed.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Fine with that Zove, if you are in any kind of settlement you can feel free to just convert gold straight over, but that is a good solution for any extended trips out of civilization.

No longer active, GM left

Indeed, but at a certain point a society becomes ready to accept seeing whatever on screen, and not thinking of it as an effect, or not caring how it was done.

This also doesn't really apply to animation. Or...so this is where the uncanny valley becomes interesting, because on the far side of the valley obviously whatever effect can happen and it doesn't really break suspension of disbelief on its own, but on the near side...maybe?

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Its clearly subjective with animation since Polar Express gives me nightmares, but I know people who do not find the terrifying souless things that inhabit the film offensive.

Grok I have thrown out a Maned Wolf because it fits, give them a google and see what you think, if not to your taste we will just assume its a normal wolf - just thought they looked cool and had not seen them before. It does make sense for him to be a different breed contextually, or at least does not not make sense...

Incidentally apart from an addition, due to your numbers, this is a from the book encounter which works perfectly for our purposes :)

I like that street map, was that in the AP or another source?

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Its an edited version of Gamemasterys Sandpoint Swallowtail Festival flipmap so I cannot take credit, I basically just cropped it used the clone stamp to get rid of a few fruit stands and what not, then lightened an area roughly approximating the path. I drew the rear of the wagon, think it was a tent? But frankly you can tell - not going to spend ages on something for a one off map.

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

I am very sorry that I have been gone so long. Zove, Brin, and GM know that I have had some RL stuff going on. Still affecting me, but the block on Paizo was finally lifted by my work, so can finally post here at least. I haven't check game play yet, going to do that next (71 posts since I last checked, cringe... that is a lot of sleepwalking that Maurie has been doing...)

Hikaru no Go is a pretty awesome anime in my opinion. I actually own a Go set as a direct result, although I am not very skilled at all (lack of practice among the chief reasons). One of my absolute favorites though has to be Rurouni Kenshin. Anyway, time to begin my back reading of gameplay. Again, sorry that I have been out of it until now.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

No worries Maurie, I have no problem at all with temporary absences when a heads up is given, bound to happen to us all :)

No longer active, GM left

Yeah, it's definitely not super clear cut. That animation, however, looks to inhabit the uncanny valley, and is therefore just creepy and strange the whole time through.

Maned wolf seems fine. I read that real maned wolves are about half the size and strength of a grey wolf, and but so long as there's not a gameplay effect it should be fine. Kindof odd though, because at 7th level they get to large size, even though large creatures are supposed to be on the order of 500lbs while the largest wolves never get above half that size.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

I think we can just assume Golarion wolves have a slightly different evolutionary path :)

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

Or perhaps that being a ranger's companion is like being a familiar for a wizard... that some of the innate magic rubs off from the practitioner to to the companion, enhancing it beyond the normal standard.

No longer active, GM left

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. I plan to increase its intelligence so that it can take better feats, so it's not really normal anyway.

Interestingly, real dire wolves (which were like, american wolves alive from 1.8 million years ago until ~12,000 years ago) were actually not much bigger than grey wolves. However, wolves are exceptionally strong for their size, and have ridiculous metabolisms, so...they're strong.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Well animal companions retain there abilities so its certainly real growth, but maybe it is sort of stimulated by the bond. The presence of magical creatures might account for wolves in Golarion having evolved to be larger than their real world counterparts.

No longer active, GM left

Could be, not really sure, wolves didn't evolve to inhabit a world like the one we live in, they lived in a world with bigger ice age creatures. I like the magic explanation.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

So, it hasn't mattered yet because Anvil hasn't been hit in combat, but how do you want me to handle my Mounted Combat feat? Should I specify the circumstances under which I want to use it as part of my combat post and roll there (i.e., something like "try and negate the first hit Anvil takes" or "negate any hit from the orc chieftan with the greataxe, or any hit that might happen after the chieftan goes), or post reactively to try and negate something once it happens?

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Hmmm, how about I roll it on the first attack per round unless you specify otherwise, or its obviously not what you would want? So if you were facing an obviously powerful foe and some minions you might specify saving it for his attack or the first attack after his turn is over.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Ok, that sounds good. We'll just default to trying to negate the first hit unless otherwise specified.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

I think something got off with the math somewhere in the combat. I went back through to try and put together what happened, since there was a little bit of confusion with AOOs being incorrectly rolled and Maurie accidentally going twice. I think this is what happened:

Round 1:
Ooze: Misses
Cromwin: Hits for 7
Zove: Begin Casting Mount
Grok: Hits for 9
Brin: Switches to Javelin
Maurie: Draws rope dart. Wasn't in Range to attack I think?

34/50 for Ooze

Round 2:
Ooze: Cromwin hits for 8 off of AOO due to movement, Ooze Engulfs Grok
Maurie: Hits for 2/misses from Flurry with rope dart
Cromwin: Hits Ooze for 9
Brin: Misses with Javelin, Draws Sword
Grok: Paralyzed, takes 5 Damage from Ooze
Zove: Finishes summoning horse, moves up stairs

15/50 for Ooze

Round 3:
Ooze: Takes 7 damage AOO from Cromwin, 6 damage AOO from Brin. Engulfs Brin+Cromwin
Maurie: Hasn't gone yet.
Grok: Takes 7 damage
Brin: Paralyzed, takes 6 damage
Cromwin: Paralyzed, takes 6 damage
Zove: Drops a pit on Maurie after she goes.
2/50 for Ooze

I'm not sure where the HP count got off, exactly, but I think this was what happened?

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Or did Maurie's second attack hit too when she flurried in round 2? Maybe we're not quite as dead as we look!

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

No I am not sure either, recounting - since the range of Maurie's rope dart is 20 and one of the square the cube was in was available without cover - I actually make the damage 51. Apologies for that folks, glad you caught that Cromwin I was getting worried! Apologies for the math fail folks, not sure where I went wrong there!

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Hurray! We're not dead! I think that means Brin should have killed it with his AOO, so he shouldn't have taken any damage/gotten engulfed, right? Cromwin was in front of Brin, so I think I still got oozed.

M Human - Ulfen 3 Skald [HP: 17/25 | AC:18| T: 11 | FF: 17 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +2 / Will: +2 | Init: +1 / Perc: +3 Raging Song:7/9

Regardless, we're alive! How long does the paralysis last?

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Yup you have the right of it, serves me right for posting at 7am, paralysis lasts for 3d6 rounds feel free to roll or just RP it out at this point.

M Human - Ulfen 3 Skald [HP: 17/25 | AC:18| T: 11 | FF: 17 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +2 / Will: +2 | Init: +1 / Perc: +3 Raging Song:7/9

Just imagining the pain and suffering of being stuck in your body like a prison and all your flesh is painfully being eaten by acid. Gelatinous cubes are horrifying. Pretty RP worthy.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Cromwin was in front of Brin (he threw the Javelin and stepped back so Cromwin could hit it), so shouldn't Cromwin be the one that gets oozed and Brin be the one who struck the killing blow?

And yeah, gelatinous cubes are terrifying. Especially when you just run into one in a dark, narrow corridor...at least we didn't walk into it.

EDIT: Oh, oops, I missed the timestamps on the gameplay post/discussion post about the AOO order here. Ok! Cromwin is paralyzed, Brin finishes off the monster and saves the day!

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Okay so basically all the posts from and including Zove's last one to mine with the voice calling for help are null, sorry for the confusion. At one point I thought it was going to be at 3hp with 3 of you inside, and Maurie in a pit - I rolled her reflex and failed before Cromwin alerted me that my math was off. Apologies for the math fail!

M Human - Ulfen 3 Skald [HP: 17/25 | AC:18| T: 11 | FF: 17 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +2 / Will: +2 | Init: +1 / Perc: +3 Raging Song:7/9

I was definitely getting concerned about a TPK.

No longer active, GM left

So the one with the voice is included in the nulled posts then?

There should be a way to go back and delete nulled posts.

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

My understanding is that voice calling post is where we're picking back up, as a result immediately after Brin's AOO. Also, I am now super confused because Brin's AOO post is post 805, my AOO post is post 807. What happened to post 806...?

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

The one with the voice is where we pick up - sorry still a bit confused and exhausted had a comic deadline date and was pulling an all nighter.

M Human - Ulfen 3 Skald [HP: 17/25 | AC:18| T: 11 | FF: 17 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +2 / Will: +2 | Init: +1 / Perc: +3 Raging Song:7/9

Who/What do you draw for?

Wow, rope dart has 20ft range, that is actually pretty cool haven't noticed before. And free action to gather it again? With blocking and distracting? Need to try that sometime :)

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

I draw a number of webcomics, not nearly as good as I would like to be, but I've only been drawing for a couple of years - thankfully I am in a position where I don't need to earn too much :p Don't really want to connect online presences though.

The Rope Dart does seem pretty great, is its range only 20ft though? Seems like if it could do extra range increments the rope would need to be 100ft. long and thus it would need to be far heavier than its listed weight of nothing... Like having free returning makes it much better to enchant than most ranged weapons.

Yeah, its ranged 20 ft but description says the rope is 12 ft long. Wonderfully clear.

Horse Philosophy

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

Yeah the rope dart is pretty amazing in the hands of a monk... much better than trying to take a normal ranged weapon, especially given monks normally are trying to engage on the front lines anyway.

To clarify my last post, Maurie thinks that the guy is trapped in the same room she was lowered into (or that at least they are connected somehow) so she is trying to find her way there.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Well he has specified he is sitting on top of a furnace, which definitely was not in that room.

What is your take upon whether the rope dart can be used outside of its first range increment Maurie? I am thinking yes, but you would need to release the rope so could not pull it back, does that seem reasonable?

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

Hm... like if threw it further by letting go of the rope? Could be useful in some circumstances, but it would be like a character using their last throwing dagger in that they would have to use melee (though to be fair I do have a reach weapon too, giving me a 10 foot radius if I need it). I probably would only use it in precise circumstances, given I enjoy being able to flurry with the thing.

Found this other cool video, it even has a 5 ft square for reference ;)

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Just installing Windows 10, so possible I might not post again tonight :)

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

You will have to tell me how you like it... currently on 7 and have been on the fence (leaning heavily toward the don't upgrade side) on whether or not to upgrade.

Oh windows 10 is fantastic, no comparison, imo. I had been a winxp/linux guy for a long time but I have no complaints with 10.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

The upgrade experience was great, so far it looks exactly like 7 but with helpful tweaks, very pleased. This was the last day o get the upgrade free here and I waited so the kinks would be worked out.

Everything imported beautifully, everything where it was all programs working :)

M Human |16/20 HP|20 AC | 11 Touch AC| 19 FF AC| +1 Init | +5/+1/+1 Saves | +5 Perception | +5 Sense Motive|1/1 Challenge|

Ooph....traveling a lot this weekend. Don't quite have the energy to spruce up my posting as much as usual.

I think we should try and make sure we keep an eye on the boy tonight though, last thing we want is for him to get assassinated.

I'm glad your windows 10 upgrade went well GM, I had a lot of problems with mine and ended up reverting it. It looked nice, but most of my programs stopped working correctly after the switch.

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

On a separate note, I finally unpacked my physical pathfinder books... including, as it turns out, two copies of Inner Sea Gods. Obviously having one copy is a great thing (I was hurting on some of our conversations earlier about Abadar just because it isn't on the PRD yet) but two is a tad ridiculous (think I got the second copy for free as a result of a shipping mix up somehow... not sure exactly what happened there). Would anyone want me to mail it to them? I am thinking Knight or Zove might have especial use for it, but it is an open offer to anyone willing to trust me with their mailing address long enough to send it over. It is pretty good, all told, but I intend to get Inner Sea Faiths to supplement it (the minor gods didn't get quite the treatment that I would have liked, but Faiths supposedly rectifies this).

I myself amn't particularly interested in a copy of ISG, thanks for the offer though.

Thanks M, but I have an extensive collection...reading them cover to cover is another matter ;) I like Hemiantus' wiki for quick reference, the references at the bottom of the page can help dig deeper if needed. For example, this.

Female Halfling Monk (Underfoot Adept) 3 | AC 16 / 17 vs larger creatures T 16 / 17 vs larger FF 13 / 14 vs larger | HP 15/21 | F +4 R +6 / 8 vs trample W +6 / 8 vs enchantment / 8 vs fear / 10 vs ench fear | Init +2 | Perc +8 | Sen Mot +8

The wiki is nice, but I really wish they would eventually add the splat book to the PRD... lot of cool ideas, feats, traits and spells (not to mention background info on the gods, their realms, relationships with each other, etc) that simply isn't in the wiki. It is a good baseline for a general sense though.

Plunder and Peril Slides | | Giantslayer Slides

Appreciate the thought Maurie, but shipping to the UK would be prohibitive and I tend to be a PDF person. I am a big fan of the PFSRD, never seen it be inaccurate and it has much more Information updated more swiftly.
