Well, with my maaaaassive 19 Skillpoints at Level 1 I have preeeetty much covered all the required skills EXCEPT Ride which I get at lvl 2... or I might somehow get it with changing something.

As a heads up whatever you do for a background you have a tie to the Liberty’s Edge be it an aristocratic supporter, freedom fighter or former slave.

You're either from or have been invited to Restov by Lord Javoki Ladovka for a unique opportunity.

I guess we should gather up before or when we arrive in Restov. Maybe we have done some missions together before that even. We are level 1 though, so can't have done too much.

Can you do everything with knowledge (tactics) that you can with profession soldier, is there a need for both or are we fine if we just got knowledge (tactics)?

@Jarx the Scarred: You probably want bolts instead of arrows for your crossbow.

Have the same amount of skill points :)

But from level 2 i only have a mere 13...

I see myself very much like the thief in "The Librarians"
Will help out etc. But hes still a thief //^^\\

My suggestions for meetups are as follows:
Kejal and Wikiwik starts off together from their abbey, then when they free the slaves they meet Gideon. They accept for him to join them. Meanwhile Evan has been busy fleeing/traveling towards Restov since he figures getting out of the country is his best bet. On the way Evan meets Shogunto who has just decided to leave to spread the word of Milani. Evan notices that most people seem to avoid the scarred orc. He approaches him as he doesn't like people being treated differently, he knows how hard it is. The preachings of Milani makes Evan sure that this is someone he could travel with. Maybe the common background or the realization that having a companion that can talk to strangers is a good thing makes Shogunto accept? He'll have to detail that part. Evan and Shogunto are naturally drawn to Liberty's edge due to their beliefs. There they meet up with the other three. Evan is instantly enarmored. He convinces Shogunto to hold of his colonization ideas for a bit then Evan does his very best to merge the two groups. Kejal and Gideon accept despite Wikiwik's reluctance. Maybe the group then get as a mission from Liberty's edge to convince Reafil to join them from the academy in Restov? Then of course the next thing that happens could be the party? So what do you think? Is this a fine order for things to happen in? If so, Shogunto would you like to RP The first meeting? I definitely would like to RP the meeting with Kejal, but that would require pretty much the entire party present? Are you guys cool with that? I guess it might mostly be Kejal and Evan talking though.

Another alternative could be that Shogunto and Evan meet Kejal and Wikiwik in an inn on the road. Then Evan convinces Kejal/Wikiwik to let them. Then the 4 of them together could defeat the slavers leading to Gideon joining them. I might like this version better now that I think about it... Then Gideon won't have to relate to Evan without Kejal present.

Just like a normal tabletop group with real-life friends you make a group with all boxes checked.

I just suggested to the GM that I could make a change to my character to better fill some voids in our group dynamics like for example healing and maybe one of the 2 vacant leadership roles.

With my backstory 'Amnesia' I can be anything.

Like I said to him, I just want to (role)play and be a meaningful part of the group(s). If this means another class that would be no problem to me.

I just wanted to know your opinion on this also.

I like my current character the hunter, but I can play anything.

Hope to hear from you guys through this thread or PM.

I rejiggled my traits because I did a dumb thing, so I actually now have +6 Survival (Which can hit +9 next level) and +8 Craft Weapons, so I'll revise my backstory a bit to account for a slightly different path.

Either of these sparkle with me. I don't know how far along the GM is planning on having us, but I'd definitely like to roleplay out some of these things to get a better feel for how our relationships play out.

Evan Rivers wrote:

I like either of these as well. Roleplaying out the meeting would absolutely be fun! (Apologies in advance for the hard time Wikiwik will give Evan once Kejal shows interest in him. He'll come to respect Evan in time.)

I'm wondering if each group could start a kingdom, or are we definitely going to share a kingdom? Each group having a kingdom would be cool and solve some of the crowding for positions, and we could have some political tension between them later? But obviously it would be a LOT of work for GM Solspiral.

Also, I'm picturing a spiderling diplomat. The ritual of shaking hands alone is worth gold. XD

Liberty's Edge

Both ideas are fine with me as well, but I might like the second one better. I can see some interesting role playing opportunities there. I hate to class dip, but Pathfinder almost requires that to both play the characters you want, and cover all the bases. Fighter will allow me to get both Ride, and Survival as class skills, as well as the better armor I might need with the low Dex character, so I'll probably dip there at level 2.

In a typical game of kingmaker NPCs and cohorts end up filling out any vacant positions. It's actually not uncommon for intended combats to get resolved diplomatically and the character NPC grows into an ally and leader in the kingdom.

One group I ran ended up hunting down giants to find a friendly giant a GF, another group ended up building a monument to commemorate the sacrifice of an army of kobold sappers they raised that took out a wall in mass combat and were slaughtered the next action, technically taking out that wall likely won the battle for the PCs. There's another NPC that's supposed to be a peaceful diplomatic challenge that a witch character hated so much she took his head pickled it in a jar and used a wand of speak with dead to make him make knowledge checks for her.

Kingmaker is only limited by the imagination of its GM and players. There will be a little railroading and time sensitive stuff from modules and Reign of Winter but there's also the possibility that this will take decades in game time...

I've outlined and layered out the mixed meta-plot so there's a lot you can do. The 2 kingdoms approach is possible if you end up wanting to take that road but you'll need to work together and will have mutual interests that would force quite a few interactions cross parties anyway.

Well, Jarx will be definetely, regarding Kingdom building, strive for Technocracy & Magocracy in some form. I have to admit, that it does sound like an interesting community "Mooore magic! Mooore pew pew weapons! Vote for Jarx and you get your own Wand of Baleful Polymorph!... and I will not eat you"

Great. We can add NPCs (or cohorts) for the roles we won't be able to fill. And a steward could add extra roles for those that doesn't have anything appropriate. Sounds to me like we shouldn't worry too much then. Nave should probably fill a strength role. With the incredible scaling strength Eidolons get, he might just end up having the largest strength in party eventually. I don't want him to take the place of a PC though. A big problem with splitting the two parties into two kingdoms is that there are no wis nor cha based people in the other group so no one can take the ruler position. That's one position I don think you want an NPC to fill.

With two people favoring option two, I think we can drop the first one. It doesn't really affect Shogunto or Reafil either way. Shogunto and Reafil still have to agree on where they fit in of course.

Reafil and I could have met on the roads since both come from the South, before the events you narrated above.

Shogunto Heineous wrote:

Reafil actually comes from the place we start in. But if you come from even further south I guess it's unlikely for Shogunto and Evan to meet on the way to Restov.

That means we need a new way for Suogunto + Reafil to join with the rest. Got any suggestions?

Not likely- beads is a Grass spider he would prefer prairie terrain... Ever see insects/spiders outside during a snowy winter?

Thrick is from the swampy south, but he left his tribe to find power, usually in the form of magic items.

then i need to change his 1 trait ;)

Rostlander gives me the +1FS but the description is no where near his "outlook" on life :P

What about Mana Wastes Survivalist? Can make for an interesting background trait

All things considered, someone hoping to be a general should really know something about soldiering, and since it makes more sense for a lazy bastard to have studied some tactical manuals over say working as a soldier, I guess I'll put points there.
Also, for the jamming sessions, it makes more sense to sing rather than orate, so I'll change that too.

@GM
Sent you a preliminary BG for Beads. Hope it meets most of the standards

Well drat we have a drop. Sent a message to first alternate...

Gang its me that's dropping out. Apologies to all and the opportunity - just got some work news that will definitely have a knock on with such an active and healthily gestating game.

PM'd GM_S to let him know that would probably be for the best to bring in an alternate and allow you all to flourish with them in play rather than me chipping away at a the block of creativity you are all bringing thus far.

Not a light decision as it's going to be a hell of a game.

Scranford - I'll see you on the high seas matey.

Rest of you enjoy - its been a short lived pleasure and hope to game with you all down the line.

Cheers

Gary aka Black Dow

Hope 2 play with you 2. See you on the boards in the future!

Good luck //^^\\

So, who's gonna be the newest member of team Rock and roll?

I'm up then I guess. I hope your work news isn't bad Dow, hopefully it's a promotion or something. So, the Scaly doctor is in. Suddenly I wish to go by some epithet similar to bones

Hello hello
and
Welcome to "Team Rock and Roll"

//^^\\

Grand Lodge

Be sure to add yourself to the google document so we can work on team skills and such.

T'will have to wait for later, I have things I must do now.

Evan, If you don't want to spend on those Knowledge skills don't worry. I have both Tactics and Engineering covered. As to how you all meet me, your first idea is good about convincing me to join Liberty's Edge. I can also act as the guy that knows the area as I'm from Restov (and have knowledge-local).

I will have to get knowledge engineering anyway as I am going to pick Sacred Geometry at some point (if allowed). And knowledge nobility just makes sense for my character. Doesn't hurt to have the ability to reroll those checks though. Tactics I might leave for you to handle though.

I don't think trying to convince you to join fits with the idea of you and Shogunto meeting up beforehand. You two meeting up beforehand also doesn't match with my idea of approaching the shunned orc. I honestly have no idea how the two groups should be brought together. Maybe we could be suggested to join together by Liberty's Edge?

Anyway, since I'll be meeting Wikiwik and Kejal first, I'll just start with that and let the rest of you figure out how we might meet up down the line. @GM_Solspiral: Is it fine if we RP in this thread or should we take it somewhere else?

The stolen lands are still to the south of where we start right? I don't have the map with your changes in my head.

@Black Dow: Sorry to see you go.

@Korak: Welcome, hope you enjoy your stay.

We are starting the discussion thread tomorrow (on Monday) as GM_S said. so either there then or he could even pop out the actual gamethread

Same here, no idea how I will meet you. I have an idea on why and how i go to the stolen lands, but actually meeting up with people?
Any ideas?

Grand Lodge

I've got ideas for how I meet jarx, and thusly schubs, but not anyone else. That'll need working.

Jarx the Scarred wrote:

Technically it's part of our backgrounds though, so starting here wouldn't be that much of a problem. It could clutter the thread though, so if he doesn't want it here we could move to a separate Google doc I suppose.

@GM
Maybe a good idea to link The Document at the top or in the Info tab so we dont have to scroll everytime to get to the doc? And if it is linked somewhere other than Page 4 of the thread... direction to it please? Thanks
//^^\\

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Cheers guys - feeling the love :)

Alas the work stuff isn't a promotion - more me having to cover additional responsibilities due to a colleagues secondment abroad. Rest assured I'll be flagging it up come appraisal time! However the "AND it cost me a place in an awesome pbp" would likely be met with blank looks...

Enjoy the game - thanks to all for the encouragement and kind words - very much appreciated, and hope to game with you all sometime for longer than a recruitment!

Slàinte one and all!

"What's that? You want to know about Rock & Roll? What is IS specifically?
Sure, I'll tell you, nothing could be simpler.
It's from Kaer-maga you know, it's a type of Troll music would you believe?
What they do is, they get on stage with a big rock in each hand, and then they bang them together rhythmically.
That's the rock bit.
Pardon? The roll?
You see, if they get heckled, they do this thing where the swing their arm low, and lob the rock along the ground so it skips and bounce up to strike the heckle's shins.
Hence the roll part see?"

And Ill just be here... in the corner... of the roof... and not get bouled over by a giant troll rolling a rock... yes. Thats what Ill do

Liberty's Edge

Well, I'd say it's pretty clear I've got healing locked down. My background has me as a doctor, given much of that is apothecary type stuff knowledge nature will remain a skill I keep on top of.

is anybody on team rock and roll an older liberty edge member?

Liberty's Edge

Alright, so here's what I got so far as far as thoughts.

Liam, 35 years old, if he's liberty's edge may have been one of the men who fought my tribe, if not, his mother's an herbalist I could have spent some time training with after I left.

Thrick and Jarx, I'm thinking perhaps I healed you at one point, perhaps we stuck together, perhaps not. I got nothing for beads. some info would help there. Maybe pair off with Schub to figure out how our backgrounds might work together.

Grand Lodge

Given Thrick's very close and personal fighting style, I have no doubts in my mind that he's taken his fair share of beatings that could use healing from a fellow reptile. He'd certainly be up for keeping a pretty reptilian healer with him.

Liberty's Edge

Solspiral, in case of character death or multiclassing, do you have any other good nature classes or engineer classes?

@Thrick, and when it wasn't magical healing lizard skin and scales would probably need a bit more specialized healing on that end to make sure no scales are permanently damaged or scarred.

Hehe maybe I (the player) need some Knowledge (Geography) :)

Shogunto comes from the River Kingdoms, which are Southwest of Brevoi (and West of Restov).

It would be natural for Shogunto to be around the East Sellen River, for example, with his chapel... So he could have met Reafil before, if needed, but I like the idea of Shogunto arriving to Restov a little before the others, meeting Reafil, hunting the outskirts with him for a while and some months later the two would join the group when agreeing to join together by Liberty's Edge :) Maybe even Reafil is the one that first brings Shogunto, then the others, together (since he was at Restov already for 3 years).

My BG is still with GM. Just waiting for final aproval. Beads is an odd race. Want my BG to fit with what GM had in mind for this race //^^\\

Only one that fits that description you don't have access to yet is in out developing sorc book it has a bloodline PRC that expands on the nanite bloodline sort of like how the ice reaver expands on boreal bloodline or the dragon disciple expands on dragon blood. We're actually planning to do a bunch of those.

It's approved. Grass spiders have a much more specific role in the context of Celtris... What you did works perfectly fine for Goleran

Shogunto I think that's where the original campaign takes place. Not sure where exactly Solspiral moved it, but it would be a bit odd to be from an abbey in the place we are going to colonize.

Beads' BackGround:

Beads of the Wastes
Beads was born and raised in the Wastes. The Mana Wastes. So needless to say, his rare gifts were very… handy. Having been born in a magic deprived waste land, in a clutch that barely went outside, it was very hard to get by. Things were hard. His very LARGE family seldom had enough to eat, and he had seen far too many times the death of a brother or a sister. When he was old enough to look out for himself, he decided enough was enough. He began to explore the outside of the city. Well, to him it was the outside. To anyone else, well, it was the city. Food here, materials there, medicine over there. Lots of things were readily available. To him it was. He used his size and his unique abilities to “acquire” items for his now smaller clutch.

When at last he was sure they were now out of danger of starvation, death and probably vengeance, he bid them farewell and left the Mana Wastes. It was not for him. The horrors he saw, the way of life. All of it was not what he saw himself be part of. So he ventured to Absalom. The largest city he knew of. City. People. Things. All of it would be fun to explore and “Procure”

While there, and doing rather okay for himself, he stumbled onto a writ that asked for assistance in an unclaimed land. While it did not hold a city of any sort, it did pique his interest. A place with no laws, not formal ownership. No ruler. Well, this he had to go see. He might even be able to bring his family here, maybe they would be safer here than in the wastes. It was settled, he would be going. Fame, fortune and a whole new life waited for him, and he was going to take it for himself

If you wish to look at it and maybe have some ideas on how he meets people //^^\\

Btw... I'm planning on going for the Primal Wizard archetype //^^\\

Brevoy is one of the River Kingdowms, the Stolen lands is situated between Brevoy, Mivon, Pitax, Iobaria, and in my version of the campaign Irrissen in stead of Numeria. I'll expand on this shortly.
