42 puts his Alchemical Silver sword away and holds the other one ready for action. Not seeing anything, he follows and listens to what the others say. He does dig through the alchemical supplies trying to find anything he might use. Failing to do so, he kicks a box and walks on.

Exiel replenishes the protection from evil spell in Lucien's ioun stone, then pokes around the alchemical supplies, and finally discovers an oddly smelly and murky potion of remove blindness/deafness. He wrinkles his nose and silently prays that he will not need to rely on the potion.

Noting the pattern on the door, he muses "it appears that we are in a different part of the dungeon now. We have seen areas with motifs of the maiden, and then the mother when we went down the path leading to that locked door with the deranged woman on the other side. Now we appear to have come to an area with motifs of the crone."

His brow creases at the thought.

"We entered through the maiden statue...but I suppose it is possible that the dungeon within the maiden accommodates all three aspects. After all, the mother, maiden and crone are supposed to be 3 aspects of the one being...I think?"

He ponders on this as he proceeds down the passage.

GM, is there a knowledge check I could make that could help shed some light on this?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---

Noting the new, sinister-looking cavern, Exiel purses his lips with some frustration.

"We should probably not spend too much time preparing. Constantin's light is good for lighting our way, but also announces our presence. Whoever is within is likely to know that we are here."

If no one protests, Exiel will move up towards the cavern and cast divine favour on himself.

Do we want to rest up in this cavern after we clear it? I think 42 mentioned wanting to rest as he was low on arcane pool points. We should probably let our GM know so he does not move us to the next cavern after we clear this one. Exiel doesn't mind either way as he still has many spells to spare.

Ok, noted that you will be resting after this next cavern. To save time, use the discussion thread to discuss your resting arrangements, like where you will rest, whether you will keep watch, what preparations or defences you will have in place.

Knowledge Local DC 20:

According to local Iobarian lore, the maiden mother and crone are the 3 stages of womanhood. It is conceivable that the dungeon is divided into three interconnected parts each representing a stage as part of the whole.

Survival DC 30:

The area of the places you have travelled through should have just exceeded the horizontal area of the maiden statue by now.

Exiel's fears prove well-founded, for as he enters the cavern, he suddenly finds himself and Alden beset by a small horde of foul-smelling beasts that had been waiting around the corner to attack anyone who came in. A few more scamper out from behind another corner further within the cavern, closing in on them. They appear to be panthers, except that their flesh and fur are sloughing off their bones and they emit quite an off-putting stench. Their movements are jerky and abrupt, but they move with surprising speed. Three of them take bites at Exiel whilst a fourth snaps at Alden.

Hopefully this will be enough to take it down.

Next round: If Exiel sees the porcupine-man, he will cast glitterdust on him, avoiding his allies or getting as few of his allies in the AoE as he can.

If he can't see porcupine-man, he stabs at the undead-kitty with the least hp.

"Undead-kitty" 7 is destroyed.

Oops. I forgot to remove some of the dead undead kitties from the initiative order.

Naala growls in the general Westward direction, then staggers a little as the poison from porcupine-man's quills start to take effect.

She takes 1d3 ⇒ 3 points of Constitution damage.

42 and Sue are also up.

Alden, can you make 5 more Fort saves for Naala?
Also remember that Naala has Exiel's battle cry buff, and she can end that effect to reroll a failed save. This won't affect the Con damage she took this round since the poison requires 2 consecutive fort saves to shake off. You can use it for one of her next rolls, and the DC is 18, +2 for each additional time she is hit by the poison.

Sue and 42 take down another of the undead kitties. Naala sniffs out the general location of the porcupine-man, but Alden's blind-stab at the spot fails to draw any blood. Meanwhile, Naala convulses slightly as the poison continues to work its way through her bloodstream, though she appears to be slowly shaking off its effects.

A short moment later, the porcupine-man reappears, just out of Alden's reach, and fires another pair of quills, this time at the flat-footed and lightly armored Naala!

attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9
extra sneak attack damage: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 6, 6, 3) = 24

Both quills hit and embed themselves deep in Naala's chest, and whilst Naala shrugs off the poison from the first quill, the second pumps yet more poison in the poor wolf, and she start to stagger under Alden.
Both quills are fired simultaneously, so Naala is flat-footed against both.

42, Sue and Alden, then it's porcupine-man again...
On Alden's turn, Naala will take another 1d3 ⇒ 3 CON damage.
Oh wow, the dice hate Naala... Three 3s from three 1d3s.

breakdown of how I've used the pre-rolled saves, Alden should read this.:

Round 3, Alden's turn, Naala saves against the poison in her veins. DC 18, she passes with a 26
Round 3, Porcupine's turn, he hits Naala with 2 quills. Naala saves against one with a 26, but fails the second with a 9. The poison DC is now 22.
Round 4, Alden's turn, Naala needs to save against the poison in her veins again. She fails with an 11 (actually an 8 due to the -6 CON). After failing this save, she will have taken a total of 9 points of CON damage. I hope someone has a way to deal with poison and CON damage quickly.

Her next pre-rolled save will be a 14(11 after considering the reduced CON), but you can use Exiel's battle cry buff to ignore the 14 and roll another 5 more saves.

I just re-checked the rules on poison. The current poison DC is 20, not 22.

By the way, Alden, I just noticed this. Naala now has a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks but is losing 1 hit point per round. Hint hint.

Ouch, Naala is really hurting. She's got a max HP of 17 now, and is at 12 I'll use the battle cry buff to negate that 14....

Fort reroll 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Fort reroll 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Fort reroll 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Fort reroll 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Fort reroll 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

With that first failed save, she takes the other 3 Con damage and that kills her, unfortunately. She's at.... let's see... -21 HP with a max of 17 right now. :-(

Alden flies into essentially a rage at seeing his companion die. He jumps over her slumped body and runs at the porcupine man. Unfortunately his small legs mean he has to double-move to get over to him.

Sorry Alden. Looks like the the party has suffered its first real loss so far.

42 and Sue close in on the porcupine-man as Naala succumbs to the poison and collapses. Alden bears down on the porcupine-man eager for revenge.

The porcupine-man cackles with glee as he sees Naala collapse. Unable to go invisible now that he is covered in glitter, he steps back and turns his gaze on 42.

I'm assuming Alden is still going to use aid another as an immediate action to help his allies.

attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

One of the quills speeds for his arm whilst the other flies towards his throat, but Alden pulls 42 away in the nick of time, and only the second quill grazes 42's neck. However, it is enough for the poison to be introduced to his bloodstream.

42, you need to make a fort save. If you score below 18 for the first save, make another 5 more.
