CaptainFord's Untitled Campaign

Game Master CaptainFord

I don't know if this would be the proper place to post this, but here goes...

I'm not sure how many other people are of a similar mind, but... I adore kobolds. I really do: something about their design is kinda cute. Something about their yipping and yapping is lovable. Something about the fact that they're such a weak race draws me to them (both thematically and mechanically in the game).

So, it got me thinking; would any GM be interested in running an all kobold campaign? And I mean a legitimate one; they're adorable and funny and not necessarily the brightest creatures, but the enjoyment comes from the fact they're oddities in an otherwise normal world (to me, anyways). The opportunity for hilarity would be present, but the story and scenarios would have to be done straight faced (initially, anyways). And truthfully, a group of kobolds taking up the hero mantle requires some good thought and strangely interesting characters; why would a race of small, craven, weak little lizards put their fragile necks on the line for a town, or city, or even an empire? What makes them tick?

And don't hold back simply because the group is kobolds. I don't know about other players, but to me, it seems the player who willingly takes up the role of a kobold do it because they're weak. It requires thinking, it requires strategy, and they have to be clever if they want to survive. It's part of the charm; don't tell me you don't love seeing an underdog (underlizard?) rail against the odds and not only survive, but thrive.

Anyways... that's all I've got to say. Anybody willing to run something like that?

I wouldn't want to run it. I would want to play it!

I would be interested (as a player) as well, if the potential group would have me.

I forget who, but a while back, someone started a Kingmaker game that was all Kobold. It sounded like a lot of fun.

But I think most folks are going to be with Tsiron. They'd rather play that GM it :)

Good to see I wouldn't be the only one interested. Though I do have to agree finding a GM may be hard, given the circumstances.
Also, would people prefer to play as evil, neutral or righteous kobolds? (My personal preference is righteous, because that lends to more intriguing characters, but that's just me.)

Potential plothooks:

-A local tribe of kobolds have noticed that the nearby human village has gone quiet. While not exactly harmonious with the humans, the tribe isn't hostile either. While investigating, the town is beset by a contingent of unfamiliar soldiers. Who are these strange invaders and what do they want with the rural community?

-A small troop of kobolds are traveling together, in search of a new tribe or starting one of their own. At their next destination, the troop gets swept up in the town's rage over their missing local celebrity, a priestess at the local temple... and the finger is being pointed at the newly arrived kobolds! Now, the group must escape capture and locate the missing priestess to clear their name, or be branded as criminals through the countryside.

-A nearby village had a child wander into the forest recently and became lost. After a few days of searching, the child stumbled home, but is severely sick. He writhes and convulses on the bed, and is constantly mumbling some odd language... for humans, anyways. The scouts report that he is in fact speaking draconic! The chief wants to know where the child had gone to come back muttering the language of dragons, and you are the tribe's best... so you might as well be the ones to check it out!

Scarab Sages

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Run it as Wrath of the Righteous, with a fearless band of kobolds saving Golarion from the Worldwound.

Never again will people look at kobolds the same.

There was another all-kobold PbP I participated in some months back, but something untoward happened, and it folded within a few pages. Was quite sad, as this character and his Giant Ant companion, Mandible were dear to my heart.

I love kobolds, and playing such a campaign would be great.

Dot.

Did run a full kobold campaign for the better part of a year before. May consider doing so again. Lot on the go right now, though, but do want to keep an eye on this thread in any case.

I would also be interested as a player. Kobolds can be fun to play.

I played the only kobold in an all goblin game. Was set in thornkeep and was having a lot of fun until it fell apart. I'd definitely be interested in playing Makena again :) (given the background of that campaign which had started out as an all goblin kingmaker game before losing the GM I decided she was from the sootscale tribe from kingmaker. She was Mikmek's brother :p)

As another member of the Make King campaign, I'd love to restart that. Makena and Mikmek were my two favorite characters. :-)

I have a campaign idea where the PCs are part of a tribe that worships a blue dragon who has taken up residence in a mountain cave system that overlooks a town. Dragon lives in fear of adventurers coming and stealing his treasure. The town is under constant oppression from their King, who is a Tiefling rumoured to be in league with creatures of the infernal planes.

The leader of your tribe has decided that the Kobolds should befriend the people of the village offer them protection from armies sent by the king in return for information about any wandering strangers and some small tributes for their master. Being the most worthy of the tribe, the PCs have been selected for this task. Not only must they complete the task, they must also convince the blue dragon of that it is a good idea, and thus claim the dragon's favour.

There is more to the background that I already have, as I want to use the same village for a group of adventurers in a RL PF game. The kingdom is Lorn as featured in the Wraith Recon books, the town is completely of my creation.

So who'd be interested in playing that?

interested

I'm planning to GM a Kobold-only campaign too, an E8 Kobold modified version of the Kingmaker AP, with others addition and some changes to the AP.
No ETA yet, but when I'll be ready I'll open a recruitment thread.

I was thinking level 4 with a fast xp progression

I would love to do this! I have never played a kobold in pathfinder.

Hm. Maybe the leader of the party could be an NPC Wyvaran? Or I could be one. Been meaning to try them out.

Wyvaran 17rp
Kobold 5rp

Mmmmmmmmmm... No... Perhaps the Tribe leader could be a Wyvaran, but certainly not a PC

I am still interested in playing a kobold. Thinking of a ranger with the trapper archetype.

I'd like a kobold illusionist, studying that magic to better deal with gnomes(with extreme prejudice if needed).

I'll make the recruitment thread now

I've batted around the idea of actually starting up a campaign myself. I'm still debating, but if anyone is interested in doing one, here's a free starting idea:

Spoiler:
You and your tribe live under the rule of a golden dragon, and has thrived remarkably; you aren't aggressive towards other beings, but definitely not friendly.
However, one day, your ruling dragon receives an urgent summons, from no less than Apsu himself, and must leave his home. But before he leaves, he tasks your tribe with a job of the utmost importance: deep within his chambers lies an artifact of unspeakable value - the Orb of Linnorms! Your tribe must guard it until he returns within a week's time. Use whatever treasures you must scrounge up from his personal horde; simply ensure the Orb is guarded before he can make preparations to move it to safety.
The same night that he leaves, some scouts go missing, and you hear another flapping of wings approaching from the distance of the night! What follows is a week-long trial of danger, onslaught and even betrayal from within your own tribe, all of which will test your limits.
For so long have kobolds claimed lineage to dragons - it is time to put this lofty claim to the test!

Well if I don't make it into GM Larkins game I would certainly be interested. But I might change my class to a wizard of sorcerer.
