Hey T-Rex,
Let's take a 25 point buy as follows:
Score/Points
7/-4
8/-2
9/-1
10/0
11/1
12/2
13/3
14/5
15/7
16/10
17/13
18/17
Assign the six scores as you like. Then you may add racial modifiers. To make a new character sheet:
Go to my account and select edit under new messageboard aliases . You may edit profile to enter info. Also select an avatar for your character. Click on the name to see the profile.

Can I use the 16,19,19,11,17, and 12 scores then?
No. I cannot figure out how to drop the lowest score. I think buying the scores will actually be better anyway.

Greetings folks! I'm an old friend of Bill's (as in OLD). I was told you two are thinking of a paladin and a ranger. I'm thinking along the lines of a halfling rogue. (and don't worry--even though I'm using Belkar's avatar, I'm NOT going to be evil! I'll play nice with the paladin, no worries)
Question for the DM: I'm interested in whether/how our characters know each other before adventuring. But I'm sure that will likely wait until our troupe is complete, correct?

Bofus, Glad to have you here. I am still thinking about what country to start the campaign in. It will be a combination of urban and rural plus various dungeon settings along the way. You may all select two traits from the Advanced Players Guide and I will find a third one for each of you based on what fits the campaign.
Your character will most likely not know each other (unless two of you weave that into your background), but the one thing that all of you will have in common is that you have each been invited to compete in Lord Keivar's Tournament of Champions. You may be representing your people, your tribe, village, or you may be in it for your own glory. This may include horseback riding, archery, the sword, the quarterstaff, the gauntlet of traps, the duel of casters, etc. If you have another idea of what category you want to compete in, please feel free to share it with me.
DM Harpwizard |
Hi Folks, Here are some general announcements:
• I have decided to start this adventure in the Darkmoon Vale located in Andoran. Please think about ways to weave this into your background.
• Most of you need to pick 2 traits from the Advanced Players Guide. You can also download them for free from the Paizo website. Use these traits to help you build your character background. Let me know if you have trouble with that.
• Armor wearing character, please be sure to include your armor check penalties in all of your skills that involve strength or dexterity. See equipment.
Please also check under DM Harpwizard's Portrait for some personal notes as well.
DM Harpwizard |
I have taken the trait Armor Expert. Does this reduce my shield AC penalty also?
http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedNewRules.html#traits
You really don't like that armor penalty do you? I am going to rule no right now. But knowing your thoughts on the mattter, you will want to be looking for masterwork armor and shield. That will also reduce the penalty by another 1.
DM Harpwizard |
If I use wizardmagic when I craft some armor can I get rid of all penalties?
Thordak, you may some day be able to create masterwork armor, but you will need a wizard or sorcerer to craft the magical properties within it. You will want to read about Masterwork armor, Mithral, and Adamantite as well as Elfin Chain. There are options out there. They may just be expensive and/or difficult to find.

What are CMD and CMB? How about some sort of treasure hunt or puzzle/riddle competition?
CMB: Combat Maneuver Bonus (your "attack bonus" to perform a maneuver like trip, grapple, disarm, bullrush, etc)
CMD: combat Maneuver Defense (your DC vs. combat maneuvers)
these are on page 11 of the core rulebook (at least, the .pdf version--not sure of page number in the hardcover, I don't have it in front of me)
These are good values to have on your character sheet ready to go!

If I take this trait, "Gifted Adept: Your interest in magic was inspired by witnessing a spell being cast in a particularly dramatic method, perhaps even one that affected you physically or spiritually. This early exposure to magic has made it easier for you to work similar magic on your own. Pick one spell when you choose this trait—from this point on, whenever you cast that spell, its effects manifest at +1 caster level." Can I pick a spell like chain lightening and be able to cast it?!

2 people marked this as a favorite. |
comes to your party, dm hrapweezerd?
LOL
Grunty, If I have told you once, I have told you a million times. No! This is one party too many that you have invited yourself to. Begone you crazy coot! But before you go, please take one of these raspberry tarts. They really are quite delicious!

Hey Mr. DM . . .
I've got most of my character info in. Note that there are a couple skills that are not recorded; I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to opt for any of the APG racial traits rather than the PCR ones (with your approval if I do, of course).
Also note that in the Skills, I put "Ranks: 1+3" to indicate the+3 bonus for having ranks in a class skill. Thought that was a good way to keep the actual # of ranks straight while still accounting for all bonuses.
I should have a background down by the end of the week . . .

mmmm. rapsilburry! when starts advintir Grunty asks?
Grunty? Are you still here? You must be hungry. Here try some of this coconut covered turkish delight. You have to realize, Grunty, that adventuring is not all that it is made out to be. It is not just running in and bashing everything in sight. I am just not sure that you would be welcome where we are going. Sometimes you need a bit of grace in your interactions. We are going to the great city of Brindol in the Elsir Vale and there are many great people there. Here let me introduce you to Thordak and Bofus. Our Dwarf here is the son of a great armorer up in the Hammerfist Hold, and little Bofus here is from Hillwatch. They are exceptional people. Now try not to embarass me, Grunty. Put out your hand and offer it to each of them in a handshake. Be sure not to squeeze too hard. Friends, I want you to meet this most unexpected guest. This is Master McGrunts.

Hey there, Grunty *reaches up to shake hands* May I call you Tiny? I've got more desserts here somewhere . . . ok, I've got Rat Cake, Rat Sorbet, Rat Pudding, and Strawberry Tart (it's got SOME rat in it--three; rather a lot really . . .)

What is this, give a troll a treat day? Hello. I'm Thordak, son of Throtgar. The dwarf with the mighty beard extends hand gruffly. I see you don't have much beard, but it has crumbs in it.

it are allwuys give Grunty treet day, Thorbak! The half-troll advanced towards the dwarf to make the same merry gesture, but saw the look in Thordak's eyes and thought otherwise of giving him a hug. He opted instead to simply pat his head. Nyyse meet you, son of Dotgar!

OK, enough of this carefully rehearsed ad-libbing. Bofus is entirely done, and any who care to check out his history are free to do so (but kindly remember that it's not common in-game knowledge until it's revealed to you, ok?) Thanks for settin' this all up, DMHW (or should we call you "Bill?"). Look forward to beginning next week!!
DM Harpwizard |
Well folks, as I prepare for our opening day, I just want to share with you some conventions of the house.
On the boards please address me as DM Harpwizard, Harpwizard, DMH or DMHW. In the out of character thread (ooc) feel free to ask me or each other questions, chat, or share practically anything.
In the campaign thread you want to be in character as much as possible. Sometimes you will know information that your character may not. Try to think like your character and use information that only your character would know. Let’s try to interact with each other as your character would interact.
When you speak, please use bold text. When you need emphasis on a particular word, use italics. Sometimes I even use italics to describe the thoughts that my character is thinking. If you have a quick question for me you may ask me in the ooc thread or by putting it in purple to indicate that it is out of character. . If you need to tell me or someone something in private, please use a spoiler like that below. In the interest of having fun and playing your character well, please do not look in a spoiler unless it is addressed to you.
The hardest bit of Play by Post (PBP) is the need for us all to post at least once a day. However, I also understand that all of our lives can become a little crazy at times. If you know you are going to be away for a weekend, or out of town for a few days, that is not a problem. However, if possible, please let us know ahead of time in the ooc thread. If for any reason a player is absent while we are in combat or a situation that holds up the story, I may make a decision for a character in the interest of keeping the story going.
Speaking of combat. I will roll initiative for all of you when it occurs and post the results. I need you to tell me what you plan on doing and where you move to. (The battle mat will have a grid that will allow you to announce with letter and a number). Indicating what round the action is occurring will help me keep combat running smoothly. Please update your character’s current hitpoints on your character sheet so we can all look to see in what fine shape you are in.
Well folks, we are getting close now. Once the characters are all set, (perhaps by Monday) I will be putting up a link for the campaign here on this message board. I will be calling it DM Harpwizard’s Heroes of Elsir Vale. Good luck and have fun!
Thordak son of Throtgar |
(Wiping raspberry jam from his helm) Good thing he knows enough not to pick up a dwarf! Thordak picks up a dropped rat-pastry, sniffs it, recoils, and tosses it into the briers. I prefer rodent-free baked goods. So, what are we all standing around for, let's get to that tournament before all the registrations are gone. Grunty, my pack is on that rock over there. If you're good I'll let you carry it.
