Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

"Uhhh.... I'm gonna have to postpone the match. Stomach troubles, you know?" Roger goes to the bathroom, clutching his stomach tightly.

Sense Motive DC 24:

Bluff1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Roger isn't actually having stomach problems.

After a quick trip to the bathroom, he takes a seat at a table across from Victor.

Victor:
Well, I think we should help her. Was there any more information, like where you could meet her?

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

I'm not sure what just happened. :/

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

With the drinking contest, or... that other thing?

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

My post doubled up after I tried to edit it. The edit still hasn't taken effect, for whatever reason.

Edit: Fixed.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Roger:
No, it just said someone was after her and she needed help. But who knows where she's gotten to by now. Should we go look for her?

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Victor:
"I think so. Should we get the others involved, or should we just go ourselves?"

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Perception DC 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

When Roger runs off to the john, Jordon quickly pats the biggest guy of the onlookers on the back and says, "Well, looks like a spot opened up! Why don't you hop in?" and pushes the guy toward the seat.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Roger:
I can't help thinking the gods would favor us more if we all stuck together so they don't have to watch us in multiple places at once, you know? But we need a way to get moving without being too conspicuous. Could be hard with Rekkstuff - he might be pretty set on drinking. Any suggestions?

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Victor:
Well, unfortunately, I started a bit of a contest, and now it appears that they've built it up so much that it would be difficult to back out. In other words, I don't have any feasible suggestions.

Yes, the gods would favor us more if we all stuck together, I'd imagine. :P

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Roger:
Alright, well, it's already been long enough that if she was talking about immediate danger then it's already too late. So we'll assume we're talking about something more long-term, like being stalked or something. So let's get this contest over ASAP and then tell the others and start searching.

Not in use

Feeling left out, Tobar starts whispering to Jordon...

Jordon:
"What do you think they are whispering about?"

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Viktor:
[b]Very well. How do you think we should end this competition? I've already dropped out, and Rekkstuff seems to be in a stupor.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Tobar:
"I dunno. Maybe they're just whispering to make us think they've got a secret, when they really don't?"

Not in use

Jordon:
"Sounds about right, they are a shifty couple.... should we just keep whispering and occasionally point at them and snicker?"

After whispering to Jordon, Tobar points at Roger and chuckles.

Outside, even above the revelry and shouting in the bar, you hear a woman's piercing shriek cut through the night air.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Victor:
Well, that's our cue.

Roger runs out of the bar, towards the shriek, motioning to the others to come along.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon hesitates at Roger's wave, whispering to Tobar,

Tobar:
"Hey, you think he's waving for us to follow?"

Not in use

Shrugging his shoulders Tobar responds

Jordon:
"Beats me, all I heard was some strumpet getting the fair end of a stroke in the alley."
before making no attempt to abandon his alcoholic beverage.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Tobar:
With a grin, Jordon responds, "Well, that'll explain why they're goin' out there." and casually sips on his drink.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor lets out a loud and abrupt expletive as he jumps to his feet and bolts for the door, wondering if he's too late.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

I'm going to assume you all follow Victor outside. If you really want to ignore the scream, let me know.

Victor reaches the door just in time to see two shadowy figures darting down the street, in the direction of the scream. Townspeople have crowded around, but are doing their best to look like they're not interested in what's going on.

Chase Initiative:

Victor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Jordon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tobar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Roger: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Rekkstuff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
?????: 20

Standard chase rules apply, except for the full-round action option; only one obstacle at a time. The shadow figures have a 1-obstacle head start on you. The base speed of the chase is 30 feet.

Obstacle 1:

The crowd milling about stands in your way:
-DC 15 Escape Artist to weave your way through the crowd
-DC 20 Diplomacy to get them to move out of the way

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor tries his best to convince people to make way for him:

"I HAVE LEPROSYYYYYY!!!!

Diplomacy:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Diplomacy1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

"Coming through, people!"

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

You know, Victor, that's really more of a Bluff...

Not in use

Tobar is torn as he watches the rest of the band streak out of the bar at full speed. His gaze goes from door... to drink... to door... to drink... to door.

Then the muscles in his right arm spasm, throwing the alcoholic beverage down his small, yet adequate sized gullet and he mutters "Bloody nutters'll get themselves killed" as he starts hastening to follow.

Tobar wouldn't follow until everyone has left, so I'll sit out the first chase round. I'll start rolling in Round 2.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Seeing as he's already finished his drink, he says to Tobar, "Well, looks like there off in a hurry. Maybe they know something we don't?" As he power-walks to the doorway, he sees them chasing after some dark figures who are on the other side of a crowd. He starts to run after them, seeing that this is something more than a dame in an alley.

I'll just be at the bottom of initiative, given my late arrival.

He shouts to the crowd, "Move! Stop that androgynous shadowy figure!"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

OK, just waiting on Rekkstuff to go then.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Since Rekkstuff seems to be MIA right now, I'll just roll for him, I suppose.

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

For those who have succeeded at the first obstacle:

Obstacle 2!:
You successfully pass through the crowd, and see the shadowy figures darting down an alleyway piled with trash.

DC 10 Acrobatics to dodge around the trash, or DC 15 Climb to crawl over it.

Not in use

Round 2:

Looking at some of his compatriots disappearing into the distance whilst others flounder beside him, Tobar shakes his head and starts forward "Good people aside, a life surely depends upon it." whilst muttering "Aye, as if the maiden isn't in trouble I'll kill the boys for wasting my time."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Acrobatics1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

"Upsy Daisy."

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

As Jordon nimbly dodges around the refuse, his form shifts and he's suddenly a member of the Barger City guard (using my hat of disguise). He shouts in a deeper voice than his own (disguise self doesn't alter voice, have to fake it), "Stop right there criminal scum!" as he continues his dogged pursuit.

You can make the Disguise check if you want, got a +19 total.

Rekkstuff (Diplomacy): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Seeing the wandering commoners fail to get out of his way, Victor tries again:

"Scusemepardonmecomingthroughpardonmescuseme..."

Diplomacy:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

OK, so Jordon and Roger are making good progress, keeping right up with the chasees. Victor has successfully made it past the crowd, while Tobar and Rekkstuff still can't get through. Rekkstuff failed twice, so he takes a full-round action to "un-mire" himself from that obstalcle this turn.

Obstacle 3:
Two workmen walk out in front of you carrying a large pane of glass!

DC 15 Acrobatics to dodge around them, or DC 15 Strength check to crash right through. If someone succeeds at that, no one else has to make a check after him (Keep in mind that Roger gets the first crack at it, NPI).

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Can I instead assuredly break the pane through the use of wordstrike (doing 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 sonic damage) to make sure at least Jordon gets through, and then follow up next action?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

That would do the trick. That's a standard action, so if I'm reading the rules right, you can still use your move action to continue to the next obstacle for next round.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor makes a flying leap, trying to get over the garbage.

Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon speeds through the two workers, who are likely rather shocked, and continues on his merry way.

He shouts ahead to the people milling about in his most authoritative voice, "Stop them!"

Not in use

Seeing the others streak ahead of him as he remains stuck behind Tobar shrugs his shoulders and heads back inside to resume drinking.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

The crowd makes a point of ignoring Jordon's command to get in the figures' way.

Obstacle 4:
A large angry dog barks and snaps at people passing by on the street. DC 15 Intimidate to scare him away from you, or DC 15 Stealth to sneak past.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

If I could still use my move action, then I will. Does that mean I can try for obstacle four?

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Could I use Bluff instead of Intimidate, given that I'm disguised as a burly guard? If not, I'll just use this Intimidate.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Failed as Intimidate. That roll'd pass if you allow me to use Bluff, though.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Okay, I'm a little lost on actions and chase rules and where I'm supposed to be at this point, but here's my next check. Stop me if you need to.

Victor does his best to make a diving tumble under the large pane of glass:

Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Yes Roger, you can try obstacle 4. And Jordon, I'll give you a 1d6 ⇒ 6 bonus to Intimidate on account of your burliness.

Rekkstuff - Escape Artist:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Victor, you must have missed Roger breaking the glass for everyone. You can pass that one without a check.

So after Round 4, Rekkstuff is still trapped by the crowd, Jordon just barely squeaked by the dog, Victor has just passed the angry workmen and their pile of glass shards, Tobar is back in the bar, and Roger still need to make his attempt at the dog. Then we'll be ready for round 5.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

My roll for the round: Intimdate1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

You've gotta be kidding me. The only possible way for me to fail.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Obstacle 5:
Fruit cart! (It's obligatory for any chase scene)

DC 10 Acrobatics to dodge around it, or DC 15 Diplomacy to get them to move it out of the way.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Intimidate for dog:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

Not great, but it'll do.

Get outta the way, ya mangy mutt!

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

As Victor comes around the corner and sees the large dog, he has flashbacks of the Dire Lion and decides to sneak past it:

Stealth:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Sweet! As for the fruit cart, I can't fail the Acro check because my minimum roll is a 10. Onward!

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Jordon makes a fantastic leap over the cart, doing a front flip and picking an apple off of it as he passes overhead. He lands far too gracefully for the big guardsman he appears to be, and continues on as he munches the apple.

Too much?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Rekkstuff (Still on obstacle 1) - Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

OK, I'm going to say the crowd's dispersed enough for that to succeed. Sheesh. Since Tobar is still drinking alone, that makes a new round for everyone.

Jordon:
You pass the dog and arrive in a dead-end alley that runs up to a dingy tenement building. It's deserted except for the two figures you've been chasing, dressed in tattered wool coats and bowler hats. They're standing about 30 feet away, above a crumpled woman slumped in the corner, shielding her face as they jeer and kick at her.

You get to act in this round, while the others can act when they catch up to you.
