Still in elvish:
"Your pardon, please, sir, but we have been threatened and attacked today, and are wary of enemies. We are come on an errand from Dorman Vander and require the good lady's professional services. We wish no one ill."
Not understanding a word of what Arando is saying, Jeorik answers for himself, "My apologies for startling you. I have been threatened twice already today and am perhaps overcautious. We are here on legitimate business however. We mean no ill to your friend."
Keliwyn pauses a moment before replying, considering the two strangers. In elvish, he replies to Arando, "Very well. Come then, and speak with her." In common, he adds, "Then surely you gentlemen will understand my concern and won't mind my staying." With that he turns and gestures to the interior of the apartment.

"Is it alright, Kel? Who are these men?" Cygney Greenlake stands in her sitting area.

"Everything's fine - it seems you have some business. This is Jeorik and Arando," Keliwyn replies, pointing to each in turn. Then, to them, he says, with a bow, "My name is Keliwyn, and this is the woman you're looking for, Cygney Greenlake."
Dordhed |
Arando takes the envelope and Dorman's money to Cygney. "Hello milady,
my employer, Dorman, wishes you to examine this document." He will try to
be near enough to see it when the envelope is opened.

"Dorman Vander?" Cygney asks, reaching out for the papers. She moves closer to the window to have better light to examine the letter. "oh! This is a pass for the city guard. The bearer has 'safe passage, free of let or hindrance'. " She chuckles lightly. "It's also a rather clever forgery, I think. Its counter-signed by Garven Fellstone, but he holds no city office. It look very convincing, but it can't be real." She hands the letter back to Arando, looking him up and down.
CrimsonDM |
Arando accepts the letter, waiting to hear the answer to Jeorik's question.
Jeorik Vandor wrote:"Is Garvin Fellstone the same man as Garvin Fellrock ," asks Jeorik, breaking his silence.
Yes, that's what I get for working without my notes. It should be Fellstone. No Fellrocks in this campaign. Though I will keep it in mind. It's no more lame than most of my attempts. Sorry.
Arando |
"Who is this Fellstone person?"

Keliwyn |
Keliwyn ponders this turn of events before saying, "Perhaps I may be of some assistance. I know of Garven Fellstone; depending on who you ask, he is either a wealthy merchant or a rapacious moneylender." Pausing for a moment, Keliwyn adds, "He also has some influence with the Temple of Asmodeus here in Korvosa . . . "
He mulls this over a minute, before adding, to Arando and Jeorik, "May I see those papers, and would you mind telling me where your employer got them? I have to admit, I'm not particularly fond of Garven myself, and this may be of some interest to me. Garven recently took on a friend of mine as a hired sword, and I may be able to help if I knew more. "
Keliwyn does not reveal that he saw Garven this morning, much less where it was. While examining the papers, he paces the apartment and tries to figure out what it is that seems to be going down.
Does Keliwyn's examination of the papers, if they're handed over, reveal anything not already mentioned? Looking back through the threads, I see that the papers where previously mentioned as a manifest.
Jeorik Vandor |
Jeorik considers the elf for a moment and then when Arando does not immediatelly answer, Jeorik supplies, "We took those paper's from a man that we assume works for Fellstone. It was partially out of fear that he might want them back that my sword was drawn when we arrived. My Uncle, Dorman Vandor, has had some unfortunate dealings with this man. He might be interested in speaking with you and could doubtlessly supply more information."
Iñigo |
Inigo goes to the temple of Abadar and asks for the assistance of any reasonably skilled auditor there who ply their trade. He offers a reasonable acceptance fee of five (5) gold pieces. Plus other compensation that may be agreed upon once he has met with Vertas. Of course, it would be heresy to imply that the Church of the One True God needs the assistance of that upstart Abadar, so Inigo hides his symbol from view and uses voluminous robes.
Thereafter, Inigo visits his friends in the Guard. He inquires what "pesh" and "qat" are and where they may be obtained. He explains that his curiousity is merely professional. Thereafter, he proceeds to acquire them.
After having done most of his chores, Inigo prepares for his meeting with Morten in the evening.

For five gold pieces, accountants will fight to the death to serve you. Well, maybe not here, in the temple precinct. but you can easily find a dependable enthusiastic auditor, Roletta Byrn. Will you have her go to the temple or deliver the ledgers to her at the Traveller's Rest? When will you need the audit complete?
Pesh (cocaine?) and Qat (betel?) you know from patrolling. Technically illegal, but taxed drugs, so their sale is often winked at by the City Guard. Sellers without appropriate tax stamps are viciously pursued, however. The 3 gp Vertas provided is roughly 8 times the cost. Because of your street rep, it is difficult to find a seller, but after much searching and diplomacy you find one stupid, desperate, or cocky enough to oblige.
Sorry, Radavel, I'd meant for us to RP all of the above, but would like to get Day2 moving for everyone else. I think your evening report to Morten and the events of Inigo's DAY 2 should work out well with the timing for the others' Day 2.
Keliwyn |
Jeorik, Arando, Keliwyn.
If you've no further business with Cygney, might I suggest checking in with Dorman and bedding down for the night? After all tomorrow is another day.
Before leaving Keliwyn surreptitiously passes off 6 gold pieces to Cygney while giving her a hug & a kiss, and with a wink says, "I'll stop by in a few days to take you out for that dinner. In the meantime, please keep your door locked and be careful . . . in case somebody did follow these gentlemen."
He then follows Arando and Jeorik back to Dorman's through the dark streets to see what they can all figure out.
Arando |
Arando will keep a look out too, especially as we near Dorman's.
Jeorik walks a little easier as they return to his uncle's place with their report, but he still scrutinizes his surroundings, just in case.
Fast forwarding is fine at the DM's discretion.

Dorman is happy to see you back, but takes your news with a sober face. "A forgery, eh? I thought as much. Fellstone has no scruples."
"And you, sir," he addresses Keliwyn. "I would be glad of any aid you may provide. I'm having an early supper before meeting my barrister this evening. Will you eat with us? "
"Arando, you're welcome too. It might be safer if you stayed with us. You seem to have become their next target."
Dorman gathers up his cape and rapier and asks Arando to check the windows.

Thom, are you ready to begin rp relative to the evening report to Morten?
Morten sits behind his large desk, staring up at the mural. His gaze shifts repeatedly in a falling line from left to right, from mountain top to valley.
Iñigo |
Iñigo knocks a short rap at the door of the office of Morten to alert him to his presence. "Grandmaster, greetings. Per your instruction, I have come to make my report relative to the esteemed Master Vertas."
Iñigo enumerates the requests that Vertas has asked of him, to wit:
The bringing to Vertas of the ledgers for the temple treasury, the Grandmaster's Appointment Book, the lesser priests, a trustworthy auditor and the procurement of pesh and qat.
"Master Vertas has not explained why he needs these things, only that he does. Grandmaster, do I have your leave to do these things for Master Vertas? You did say that I should assist him in any way."
Keliwyn |

"A meal sounds like a fine idea, although I do hope you've chosen a place where we are not likely to be overheard," Keliwyn replies, stepping aside for Dorman to lead the way.

Keliwyn, Jeorik, Arando:
Dorman is as good as his word. As he leads the party back to his town house for dinner, he discusses the architecture and history of the city for Jeorik.
Arriving at a substantial, but plain stone house, he says, "There are many richer houses in Korvosa, but none are ornamented as gracefully as mine." Then he sweeps the door open and strides inside proclaiming loudly, "I am home!"
The hall of the house is nearly bare. There are discolored rectangular areas on the walls at eye level. Four empty pedestals stand in the corners.
spoiler for Arando:
Sounds of life come from somewhere in the house, particularly cries of "Father's home." But the first arrival in the hall is a tall thin man dressed simply in black with a large bunch of keys on his belt. Dorman says, " Gorgy. This is Jeorik, my brother's son. He will be staying with us for a while. Make up a room for him and stable his mule in the garden. Arando will be staying also. Keliwyn is here for dinner." The butler inclines his head, takes any coats or cloaks, and steps outside to care for the mule.
spoiler for Keliwyn:
No sooner has Gorgy passed through the outer door than four young perhaps 21-14 years old women appear on the upstairs balcony. Three share their father's dark hair, the second oldest is blond. Their pleasure in your (Or their father's) arrival is apparent from smiles on their faces as they descend the stairs.
"Ahh, girls, I have people for you to meet. This is Keliwyn. And this is Jeorik, a cousin. Arando, you know."
Dorman spins to face the three men. As each of his daughters embraces him he presents them to you. from apparently oldest to youngest "This is Terre. This is Marga. This is Philomina. And this is Janetha." Each young lady courtsies in turn. Terre looks grave; Marga curious; Philomina is all smiles; Janetha pulls a ridiculous frown.
"Marga, will you tell cook about our extra guests? If she hears it from Gorgy first, she'll be cross."
Dorman ushers you all into a side parlour. "can I get anyone a drink?"
The girls are all clever and polite conversationalists. Dorman is obliging.
Dinner is called shortly thereafter.
CrimsonDM |
Dinner consists of a thin beef and vegetable stew with good dark bread and butter. It is beautifully seasoned, but insubstantial. The dinner wine, however is excellent. Dorman apparently clings to the ancient custom of watering his, as do the four ladies. By decree of the host, No business may be discussed at table.
Keliwyn:
Arando:
After dinner, the men retire to the patio in the garden with the wine.
Feel free to interject at any point in the narrative. Or we can begin discussion here.

Dorman "This is Terre. This is Marga. This is Philomina. And this is Janetha." Each young lady courtsies in turn. Terre looks grave; Marga curious; Philomina is all smiles; Janetha pulls a ridiculous frown.
Jeorik beams in delight as he is introduced. "Cousins, I am so very pleased to meet you," he says with a soldierly bow.
Jeorik Vandor |
As Jeorik takes in the obvious clues towards his uncle's 'fallen' financial status, he decides that he will do whatever is necessary to help with the situation. As he is not allowed to discuss business at the table, he makes polite inquiries as to the status of his other uncle.
In the garden, he waits to hear what the others say first before volunteering his own opinions on the subject.

timewarp back to the table
Dorman's face loses some elasticity after your question. "Ah, Werman. He still comes around occasionally, but I really haven't seen him in quite a while. He was a candidate Hellknight, but failed the final trial. He's keeping bad company these days. Won't take my advice. Sad really."CrimsonDM |
Now that Owlen is with the Grandmaster, Iñigo goes to the room of Vertas. "Master Vertas, may I come in?"
"Of course, Inigo. Please enter." Vertas shuffles back to the small desk. He has opened a package of Qat, but rather than chew it, is steeping the leaves in water. "What do you want?"
CrimsonDM |
"Just wanted to inform you that I have done as you have instructed. Presently, Owlen is with the Grandmaster after I reported that you wanted to look at the temple ledgers."
"Which, incidentally means that you can instruct me to bring you to the ledgers."
"By all means, let's see the ledgers. And can you summon the accountant? I want her to examine them thoroughly as soon as possible."
CrimsonDM |
Whilst waiting in the garden to hear what others have to say, Jeorik takes a moment to look over and insure that Pax is indeed being treated well. Of course, the fact that Pax was carrying all of her own food probably helped insure she would be fed.
nice to see you taking care of the mule.
Iñigo |
"Of course, Master Vertas." Inigo pens a short missive to Roletta Byrn advising her to come to the temple immediately. A large reward is also promised.
Inigo summons a lesser priest with instruction to give the letter to Roletta Byrn at her address. "Fail not in this mission. The First Lord is watching."
I assume she has her office in the Temple of Abadar.
"Master Vertas, shall I help you into your armor?" Underneath Inigo's robes he has his armor on. "I have a feeling that this is the crucial moment. I looked in the library and found the significance of your insignia."

Keliwyn |
Upon meeting Arando's daughters, Keliwyn bows ceremoniously to the four girls, speaking in elvish, before repeating in common, "Ah, it should be unfair that so much beauty should reside under one roof, less the stars in the night sky themselves become jealous with envy. Fair ladies, I am Keliwyn T'Alios of the Mierani, and I humble myself before you."
Looking around, Keliwyn clearly notices the signs of a change in Dorman's fortunes, including the stabling of the mule in the garden, and not in a proper stable, but he is polite and says nothing. During the meal he is both friendly and cordial, and happy to speak of his time in Korvosa. Upon complimenting his host on the wine and stating that the meal reminds him of his home and people, he tells some tales, more for the girls than anyone else, of life among the elves.
When the men retire to the garden, Keliwyn, as a guest, politely waits for the host to start the talk of business.
