Istas Wraithscar |
Heh. It's Istas' nature at this point. She just doesn't get along with the Gray Maidens. Not since they showed up to take away Trinia, at least. She doesn't trust their motivations, nor their utter devotion to Ileosa. It should set up an ongoing rivalry between the Shoanti warrior/priestess and the "weak-willed" Southlander women who want to play at being the Queen's chosen guard. Besides, there's nothing inherently "good" about Istas. She's Lawful Neutral. So, she doesn't have to be nice. She just holds people accountable. And, right now, she believes the Gray Maidens are suspect and should be held accountable to a higher moral authority than the Queen. ;-)
Emerion Brightsmith |
Emerion watches Istas do what she must, then heaves the body out of the fountain before Keliwyn speaks.
"Oh well. Shame to waste it now, and it may give us a clue as to the 'new bloodveil she spoke of." He quickly searches the body strips her of gear.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Heather Whiteraven |
Heather frowns.."That's it?..I..well... I thought...that she would be more off a challenge really."
The Sorceress seems curiously deflated by the end off the combat..perhaps being around Istas is beginning to make her enjoy the sensations she gets during it.
She gazes down at the corpse the tendrils of electrical force running idly up and down her arm.
CrimsonDM |
As Emerion pulls Andaisin's body from the pool, she lays on her back across the edge of the low wall surrounding the pool. Her arms splay out. Her hair falls back revealing a small tattoo of a scythe on her forehead. Her wrists each have one too.
Suddenly the statue of Urgathoa in the center of the pool begins to shake and a geyser of water erupts around it.
Istas Wraithscar |
Istas backs away a bit and draws Peacebringer once more. "Well, she did say her bloodveil would crush Korvosa..." the priestess supplies, "Perhaps she meant that literally?"
Then, she recalls the direct effect Urgathoa took with the derro's body she and Stannic interrogated so many weeks ago when all this turmoil first began. If the Pallid Princess chose to willingly work through such a mad creature's body even after its death, what might the goddess do when one of her high priestesses fell to Istas' hand, as well?
"Everyone clear away from the body!" Istas shouts, gazing at the color of Peacebringer's blade to see if it'll glow blue once more in the presence of some undead incarnation. "This isn't over!"
Heather Whiteraven |
Heather has 2 first level spells left plus the shocking grasp she still has held 11 charges in the Lightning bolt wand, 44 charges in her 1st level magic Missile wand and 17 in her 3rd level Magic Missile wand. Emerion needs to remember the four scrolls of disrupt undead I gave him 6 months ago in real time..Do you realise we've been down in this dungeon since October?
CrimsonDM |
The geyser of water collapses into rain-like droplets. The seven fonts around the room begin to overflow. Blood, bile, milk, urine, etc. drip, then splatter, then flood onto the floor where they move as if driven by some creature's will. The mixed odor of the seven scourges intensifies.
Fort save DC 18 or be sickened for 2 rounds.
The fluids flow up the sides of the center pool, cut through the clear water, and converge on Andaisin's body where they swirl and accrete. Andaisin's breastplate splits as the Scrouges heave her body upward. Under the colored fluids swirling around her skin, Andaisin's body begins to grow and change. Her right arm lengthens her fingers stretch and fuse into a long curves bladelike shape.
She look down on you.
"The end of life does not always lead to the Boneyard, you Grey Toad. For Urgathoa's favored death leads to power and immortality!
Yeah, it's initiative again.
Andaisin 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Fina (still held) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
If you all hold still for a couple rounds I can get you out of this dungeon real quick!
Istas Wraithscar |
Initiative check... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Fortitude save... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
"Your death won't lead to power or immortality!" Istas confidently retorts, "I've seen Urgathoa 'favor' her followers before. And they die just as easily a second time. No one can avoid my Lady forever. Not you. And not your vile goddess, either. You'll die twice by my hand this day. And when you stand in the Boneyard at last, may your soul be doubly damned for all eternity."
Heather Whiteraven |
Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Fort.Save1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Heather feels the gorge rise in her throat and her head swims at the stench.
"Like I said earlier..death Cultists..no class..no taste ..no.. Imagination" she says between the attempts off her stomach to empty itself.
I'm pretty sure that Istas' Harrow Boon is still valid
CrimsonDM |
Andaisin rears up on her new serpentine lower body. Rivulets of the seven scourges run down her into the pool. She raises her arms overhead in triumph. Her snake-like tail whips the water in the pools.
Round 1.
Emerion
Andaisin
Heather
Fina (held)
Keliwyn
Istas
Andaisin Mark 2 has picked up some mass. She's large now.
Yeah, Istas can keep the boon. And Keliwyn may get a reprieve from debilitating depression.
Emerion Brightsmith |
Right next to her and with haste still active, Emerion attacks.
+10 basic, -2 sickened, -2 Combat Expertise, +1 haste, +1 Hero's feast. AC22

Attack #2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
CrimsonDM |
Emerion tries mightily but fails to penetrate Andaisin' new Undead Hide TM.
Still erect, Andaisin glides through the pool toward Istas. "Let's see the Grey Spinster protect you from this!" SHe slashes with her big scythe-like arm and mirrors the attack with her other hand.
Big scythe hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 ... Damage 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Small clawed hand: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 ... Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
For each one of those that hit make a DC 16 Fort save or suffer [url=http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/glossary.html#_cacklefever], 1d6 Wisdom damage. (Table ruling -- you can lose 6 Wis max.)
Meanwhile her tail slaps casually at Emerion.
Tail 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 .... damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 .... no save required.
Istas Wraithscar |
Nice one, Wellard. Can melee touch attacks using spells benefit from critical hits? I know ray attacks do, but a melee touch with shocking grasp might take that a bit far.
Istas' defending bone swiftly moves to intercept Andaisin's strikes. Though it can't hold back the full force of the blows, it does manage to soften them.
I'm assuming the scythe hand and clawed hand each do slashing damage, so the DR 5/bludgeoning should still work against them.
A wave of otherwordly weakness threatens to wash over the Shoanti priestess, but she struggles to shake it off.
Fortitude save #1... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Fortitude save #2... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Only a small trickle of blood leaks from Istas' bruised lip as the rest of Pharasma's protection is worn down from Andaisin's assault.
That wipes out all of her remaining temporary hit points.
"You'll pay for that!" she promises. Istas then brandishes Pharasma's holy symbol, the cosmic spiral, releasing a blast of positive energy.
Channel positive energy to harm undead... 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12
DC 14 Will save for half
Heather Whiteraven |
God I missed that I'd rolled a 20 there and the rule is any attack you have to make an attack roll for can critical.Sorry Tim

Heather's electrical attack arcs through Andaisin, contorting her body.
Fina struggles against the compulsion that holds her motionless. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 She'll be free to act next round.
Keliwyn's arrow parts Andaisin's hair. A single long black lock falls into the pool but she is otherwise unharmed.
Energy flares from Istas' spiral. It crackles around Andaisin, but leaves her greying skin untouched. [b]"Your pitiful power can't touch me now! You're not even worth my attention.
Round 2.
Emerion Up!
Andaisin
Heather
Fina free to move now.
Keliwyn
Istas
Emerion Brightsmith |
Emerion moves to flank with Istas (should be doable? I believe the sickened effect goes after this round, so I've added in the -2 from that) and delivers a rapid series of strikes.
Attack #1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5) = 11
Attack #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4) = 15
Threat Confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
"A hit! A very palpable hit!" Emerion laughs. "Now you see Desna's luck is as sure as Pharasma's fate!"
Istas Wraithscar |
Energy flares from Istas' spiral. It crackles around Andaisin, but leaves her greying skin untouched. "Your pitiful power can't touch me now! You're not even worth my attention."
Not even half damage? Usually, even if an undead creature makes its save vs. channeled energy, they still take half? Or...are we not dealing with an undead thing here?
CrimsonDM |
Sorry, spaced it and went with 0 damage on the save. You're right. She's a teeny bit singed instead. Emerion hits. Better post with her actin tonight.
CrimsonDM |
Singed by Istas but still cocky, Andaisin Undead turns to face the worst threat. Claw and scythe rip toward Heather.
Big scythe hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 ... Damage 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Small clawed hand: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 ... Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
For each one of those that hit make a DC 16 Fort save or suffer [url=http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/glossary.html#_mindfire], 1d4 Int damage. (Table ruling -- you can lose 4 Int max.)
By way of insult her tail swings at Istas' leg.

Heather, Fina, Keliwyn, Istas
Istas Wraithscar |
By way of insult her tail swings at Istas' leg.
Thank goodness for that shield of faith. Andaisin's attack misses by 1.
With her enemy focused elsewhere, Istas steps back to put some room between her and Andaisin. Then, she calls upon the might of her goddess once more.
5-foot step to back away.
Standard action to cast searing light.
Ranged touch attack with ray spell... 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage vs. undead (no save), if it hits... 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 3, 4) = 18
Move action to circle around and shield/protect Heather to take some pressure off her next round.
"Don't turn your back on me! This is between us! Face your fate, coward!" Istas shouts, trying to keep Andaisin focused on her.
Strategy:
Heather needs to back away. She can't stand up to a mauling like that again. With Fina finally freed, hopefully she and Emerion/Keliwyn can absorb a round of occupying Andaisin while Istas moves to heal Heather next round. Also, Istas is out of heavy hitting options at the moment. I think our best bet is for her to focus on keeping the rest of you standing so you can do your thing. Emerion will need to flank with Fina or Keliwyn after this round, since Istas won't be up front with you. And, once she's finished healing Heather, it'll give Istas a chance to hurl that magic stone, which might do better damage than further channelings vs. undead.
CrimsonDM |
Well, that will get her attention! Guess I better start adding up the damage she's taken. Ouch! Counting Istas' last I get 84. And Bill to say it straight out, you can have the oathbow bonuses. That will change just missed to 'hit' on your last attack. I'll let you roll the bonus damage.
Fina splashes into the pool and slogs through the water toward Andaisin, ending her turn near Heather.
Just Keliwyn left.
Heather Whiteraven |
Fortitude Save 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Fortitude Save 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Heather staggers back and then away from Andasain her clothes shredded and blood flowing freely.
Full Withdrawal Action..I'm on 2hp
CrimsonDM |
Keliwyn up for the the end of round 2. Oathbow functioning. See post above. I'd say you got a 50-50 chance of avoiding depression.
Heather falls back and Andaisin surges after her, eager to finish the sorceress. Suddenly the undead is silhouetted by Istas' searing light, and is staggered. She whirls around to face Istas again.
Apparently she can't ignore that, Neil.
I hate phrases like "draw aggro", but Heather has done it well against Andaisin. She's shelled out so much damage, she has to be target number 1.
And after Bill posts Kel, Emerion is up for the top of round 3.
Keliwyn |
Additional damage from last bow attack 1d6 ⇒ 3
"Come here," Keliwyn growls as he drops his bow, draws his rapier and slogs through the muck to take up flanking with Emerion.
Attack w/ haste & flank bonuses1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 31

edit: low rolls on damage, but still 17 points total
Emerion Brightsmith |
Emerion's blade dances in his hand as he shakes off the sickness (still using Combat Expertise, haste, hero's feast and flanking. Will take 5' stepo if needed to flank with Keliwyn, AC to 24).
Attack #1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 Damage: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3, 4) + 2 = 15
Attack #2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 Damage: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 2 = 11
CrimsonDM |
Not feinting, Dabbler?
Keliwyn and Emerion team up to skewer Andaisin from opposite sides. Their swords pierce deeply and not blood, but bile, vomit, and tears pour out.
1d5 ⇒ 4
Moving shakily Andaisin continues her turn toward Istas. "Your friends have hurt me, but at least I can take you with me."
Big scythe hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 ... Damage 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Tail 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 .... damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 no save required.
CrimsonDM |
Thanks for the honesty, Bill. Your total of 17 was 3 short. I think you left of the regular damage, or maybe last rounds' bow bonus. And Wellard, I'm glad she made it. I'm really looking forward to seeing this last trick.
Istas Wraithscar |
Moving shakily Andaisin continues her turn toward Istas. "Your friends have hurt me, but at least I can take you with me."
Istas narrowly avoids the sweeping scythe hand, but the motion brings her within reach of Andaisin's follow up claw. The defending bone circling Istas attempts to intercede, striking the Urgathoan's arm to soften the blow. Even so, the talons still scratch along Istas' temple and forehead, leaving a trail of blood.
First attack misses by 1 again due to shield of faith. How's that for epic? And, the defending bone shaves 5 points of damage off the claw attack due to the DR 5/bludgeoning. Istas takes a total of 6 hit points.
Fortitude save to avoid Wisdom damage with the +2 harrow bonus... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Whew! Still avoiding the disease threat. And the harrow bonus is what made it possible. Hah! Even more appropriate!
"You fool!" the Shoanti snarls in the face of the undead menace, "Your goddess has no power to threaten the Lady of Graves. And you have no power to threaten me!"
Heather Whiteraven |
Forgot to do my stat damage

Shaking her head to try and clear it off the fog that Andasain's hit engendered Geather grabs a scroll from her Handy haversack breaks the seal of Pharasma and reads the words in a sonorous tone.
Halt Undead DC18 will save to avoid being held immobile as if by a Hold Person Spell.Negated when she takes damage but that should let Kel get in with the Oathbow.
CrimsonDM |
Fina steps between Heather and Andaisin and readies an attack should Andaisin come at the wounded sorceress.
Andaisin stiffens momentarily.
Save 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Not momentarily, permanently.
That should make it easy for them, Wellard. She can't even talk back to Istas. Probably a good thing. Istas was winning the war of words.
[ooc]Keliwyn and Istas, (free of sickness!) to finish round 3. Then Emerion for the top of round 4.
Keliwyn |
Keliwyn notices Heather's casting a spell and the corresponding stiffening of what was Lady Andaisin. Taking his time (delay initiative) he shifts his weight from foot to foot, nodding at Istas and Emerion. "Let's finish this," he says.
Attack w/ haste and flank bonus 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 14
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Sneak Damage 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) = 14
edit: D'oh!
Istas Wraithscar |
"I say we stone her!" Istas offers, hefting one of the grave rocks she prepared ahead of time for undead creatures.
Ranged coup de grace attack against an adjacent, helpless target?
The rules say you can do that with a bow or crossbow if you're adjacent to them and the target is helpless. Is it fair to assume that Istas can achieve the same thing with a magic stone vs. a helpless undead creature? The helpless condition is defined as being paralyzed or held, so halt undead has definitely put Andaisin in that position. We should all be able to deliver a coup de grace at this point. And, if Istas can use her magic stone in this capacity, she will...
Automatic critical hit with magic stone...

CrimsonDM |
Fina waddles in to help too. At the appointed signal she slices into the frozen undead with her greatsword.
4d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 3) + 6 = 23
Four or five coups. She's toast. Lay it on and let's see if you can break 100 hp in the round.
Heather Whiteraven |
Heather walks back to Andasain with an almost feral grin
"Give my regards to your b$&~# Goddess and tell her the b~!~! you served in this plane will be along shortly...oh and enjoy your conversation with Pharasma in the boneyard."
She casts another Shocking grasp and strikes with the others.
