That's the plan! I made attack roll above to speed things along for Thom.

Staring at Heather, Andaisin begins casting a spell, Emerion's arrow strikes her grazingly and does not interrupt the flow of eldritch energy.

A phantasmal scythe forms in front of Heather and swings at her legs.

You earned it with big electrical damage, Wellard. Unfortunately she's not trading at par.

Readied action once more.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

By my estimation thats 76 points of damage on her so far..she surely can't take much more off this

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

"Let's see if we can't bring you back down to earth," Istas mutters, offering a prayer to Pharasma. At the end of her spell, she reaches up and tightens her hand into a fist to cut off whatever arcane energy keeps Andaisin airborne. "The more misguided they are, the harder they fall..."

Casting dispel magic as a targeted dispel to specifically end whatever magic keeps our enemy aloft. Istas will then use her move action to close on wherever Andaisin falls so she can provoke an AoO if the priestess tries to stand again. Also, if she's up high enough, I'm hoping to cause falling damage to her.

Dispel check... 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

EDIT: BOO-YAH! That should be high enough to end a spell of caster level 13th or lower. No save.

Also, since Istas had to pause in directing the spiritual weapon to cast dispel magic, the spiritual weapon should return and hover next to her for this round. It's made two attacks so far, plus it'll be sitting out this round. So, it's got two rounds of duration left on it.

As she descends she steps back toward the pool's center and calls up misty vapors to cloak her from your sight and not even Emerion's arrow can distract her. You hear her splash into the pool.

Obscuring mist. She touches down somewhere in the pool.

Strategy Discussion:

Spoiler:

It's too bad there's no rule for turning a lightning bolt into an area effect spell when someone is standing in water and holding onto a scythe like a lightning rod. :-D

As far as Keliwyn's arrows go, it's possible he could still hit her, right? I mean, Andaisin moved into the fountain area and then cast obscuring mist. So, he should already know the 5-ft. square to target for an invisible opponent, right? He'd still suffer the 50% miss chance. But there ought to be a 50% chance to hit her, too. And, he's got two attacks. The law of averages ought to be on our side.

In the meantime, we're hasted now. So, our extra movement ought to get us into the fountain and surrounding her in a hurry. At the very least we can do that and take advantage of attacks of opportunity on her. That's what I plan on having Istas do, anyway. Sadly, she doesn't have any area effect weapons or spells.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 7 (favoured class) |AC 14 Init+5 Perc+8 FRW 3/3/7

Spoiler:
Oh I agree it used to be if you cast a lightning bolt into water it had an AoE like a fireball..but that was waaaaaaaay back in 1st Ed.

Male Human, Varisian +6 Init, AC23/19/14, F+6/R+10/W+4, HP55/55, Per+11, Sense M+8 Fighter 5/Rogue 2

Strategy:
Listen for the splash as she hits the water. She has to (a) land somewhere and (b) come out somewhere. Hence there are two options: go in after her, staying out of the water as much as possible, or hang back and let her come out of the fog on her own. Depends on how much fog she summoned, if we are in it anyway we'll have to go in after her regardless.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

More Strategy:

Spoiler:

If we have any summon monster magic at our disposal, we could also bring in a creature with the scent ability and let it help us sniff her out. That helps the rest of us always know what 5 ft. square she's in...

Male Elf Rogue 6

The OathBow has a x4 multiplier, and Obscuring Mist would give BBEG concealment resulting in a 50% miss chance for Keliwyn's shot, if I'm correct.

Male Human, Varisian +6 Init, AC23/19/14, F+6/R+10/W+4, HP55/55, Per+11, Sense M+8 Fighter 5/Rogue 2

Ouch! I hope you don't miss...then all we have to do is fish her body out! Hopefully.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 7 (favoured class) |AC 14 Init+5 Perc+8 FRW 3/3/7

You can't use sight to locate her outside of 5' distance though that's implicit in the spell description

Male Elf Rogue 6

Hmmm . . . I'm not sure what comes into play here. The spell description reads: A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target). The rules for concealment read: If you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight, he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can't attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment).

So, if Keliwyn has a means of perception other than sight that allows him to correctly guess what square Lady Adaisin is in, he gets a 50% miss chance. The question is, how to adjudicate that guess? Do I actually just guess? Does Keliwyn make a perception check? Thoughts?

Dabbler's Map, for reference.

Note: I sooooo want to land that crit hit.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

I'm going to say based on Lady A's descent while she's casting, that there are 3 possible squares for her to land in, once she starts moving under her own power. Make a Perception check to eliminate one of the squares based on sound. Below 17: 1/3 of 50% means you have a 17% (1-17 on d100) to hit. 17-22: Two squares and 50% miss chance means a 25% chance. Above 22: bare 50% miss chance.

Now here's a question for the ooc thread. Does Heather need line of sight to impart haste to Istas and Emerion?

After Keliwyn resolves his hit, on to round 5.
Fina, pulling it together. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Initiative Order. Round 5
Emerion 24 M8
Istas 22 J4

Lady A, 18 fountain

Fina 16 (Halted, DC 19 to save) G7
Heather 14 G6
Keliwyn 13 G5

Male Elf Rogue 6

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Edit: Damn.

The mist veils Keliwyn's target, and the burbling fountain confounds his ears. His shot flies wide.

Tough break. I can sympathize.

Mist blocks line of sight, not line of effect which is what spells need. As long as Heather knows we are there, I think the spell works fine.

Drawing his blade again, Emerion glides into the mist and circles the fountain clockwise, stalking his pray. He is listening for the sound of her in the water, and watching for her through the mist. If she leaves the fountain she will (presumably) leave wet footprints he will see. He moves as quietly as he can to achieve surprise. He can circle the entire fountain in one move action with haste.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

If he comes on her, he attacks (Combat Expertise, haste, hero's feast):

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8
+ Sneak attack if applicable: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Survivor's Salvation

Emerion moves through the mist:
It doesn't take long, only a few steps and Emerion sees the shape of Lady Andaisin in the mist. Lunging over the rim of the pool proves awkward and she blocks his blade with her scythe. You reach M7, she's in L6.

Propelled by Heather's magic, Istas swiftly follows Emerion into the mist, circling around the area where the sounds of battle are occurring so she can take Andaisin by surprise.

Move action enhanced by haste to cross into the fountain and set up a flank for Emerion if possible.

The glowing, disembodied dagger of her goddess follows into the mist and once Istas discerns Andaisin's figure, she launches the magic at her once more.

Attack with spiritual weapon... 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Spiritual weapon " does not get a flanking bonus or help a combatant get one."
If you really want that flank, you'll have to stand right next to Andaisin and be threatened in turn. Acceptable?

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 7 (favoured class) |AC 14 Init+5 Perc+8 FRW 3/3/7

hmm let's see..Istas..turn down a chance to do damage to a follower of the 'Pallid Princess'?....nah..not gonna happen

Survivor's Salvation

The question is whether she'll risk herself to give Emerion a better chance to hurt Lady A. That spiritual dagger will hit either way.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

Yes. It was my intention to move Istas into a threatening square to set up the flank. She can attack with the spiritual weapon separately from that, while still provoking an AoO...just not with the spell. That's because she still holds a real dagger in her hand, as well...and she can forego the spell to make a normal attack in any upcoming round. Also, Istas isn't above risking herself to help Emerion. I was intending to get up close and personal anyway. I just wanted to continue directing the spiritual weapon for now until it outruns its current duration...which should be one more round.

Survivor's Salvation

Just checking

Istas' hammer hits Andaisin squarely in the back. The Urgathoan whirls to face Istas and sweeps her scythe overhand at Istas' shoulder.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 ... damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 ... damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7

Fina tries to break out of the compulsion to halt. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Heather, then Keliwyn.

Posted without preview. Then noticed the potential crit. So rolling confirmation down here.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 ... damage 6d4 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 1) + 9 = 27

That would have been exciting. :-(

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

So, she uses a full attack action on Istas? Looks like one hit with a potential threat, but no crit. With Istas' defending bone, it blunts the slashing damage from the scythe, so it's just a scratch for 2 hp due to the DR 5.

As the bone enchanted with Pharasma's power intercepts Andaisin's scythe, Istas glares her hatred for the Urgathoan priestess. "We'll see whose goddess holds the greater power," she taunts her enemy, "A perverted, gluttonous spirit who ran from the Boneyard lest she face judgement...or the Lady of Graves who knows all...and unto whom all power is given over this life and the next."

Sensing Andaisin starting to falter, the Shoanti priestess punctuates her verbal sparring with two quick jabs of her Pharasma-blessed dagger.

She foregoes another attack with the spiritual weapon in order to full attack with the benefits of Heather's haste this round...plus the flanking bonus from Emerion.

"To the Boneyard with you!" Istas shouts.

Melee attack #1 with Peacebringer... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Melee attack #2 with Peacebringer... 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Unguided, the spiritual weapon expires at the end of Istas' action.

Keliwyn charges into the mist, locates the combat, and lunges with his rapier. It cuts into Andaisin's shoulder, eliciting a gasp.

Thinking of the next round, Heather readies shocking grasp.

Emerion stabs twice and manages once to tag her.

Istas polishes her off with her magic dagger.

Lady Andaisin coughs blood as her scythe splashes into the clear pool. She crumbles to her knees. "You still haven't won. My new Bloodveil will crush Korvosa." Then she faceplants in the water. The weight of her mail drags her to the bottom.

Well done.

"Your new bloodveil...is a failure," Emerion murmurs. He looks up at the others. "Do we want to risk searching her body?"

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

"Not until I'm done with it," Istas states. The priestess reaches down to find Andaisin's head, lifting it up out of the water. Then, she grimly plunges her dagger once more into heartless Urgathoan. "That should speed her along to the Great Beyond."

Coup de grace in case Andaisin is only in the negatives. Automatic critical hit.
Damage... 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

The Shoanti then pauses to catch her breath, climbing wearily out of the fountain. She wipes her dagger clean and sheathes it again. "Now let Fate take its course. With her death, Peacebringer has brought us peace. You may search her body as you wish...it is but an empty shell now."

She looks around at her comrades. "Is anyone hurt? It seems the Lady of Graves blessed me beyond measure tonight. I am unharmed. And unashamed of what we accomplished here."

Her gaze falls on Fina. "What happened to you, Gray Maiden? When it came time to face the one who orchestrated this disease, why did you falter? Is it because you lacked faith in Pharasma's will?"
