Nice analysis, Neil. I agree that our tactics have been successful, and hope that they will continue to be. As for any decision to fight Arkiminos, I'm in because it's what Keliwyn would do. It may be a tough fight, but I don't see Istas backing away from it, and Keliwyn isn't going to leave her in the lurch. So, let's have at it.

On a related note, I looked up Nosferatu at d20pfsrd.com, and noticed that, for that entry, they have the stats for Ramoska Arkiminos. Not to metagame, but it mentions right there at the top that he's a male nosferatu human wizard - the emphasis on human being mine. That means that the bane properties on my rapier are in effect, right?

I agree, Neil. I am aware of how lucky we were, though. Think of what could have gone wrong:

  • Emerion And Kelliwyn have appalling Will saves. We could have been frozen as long as our Grey Maiden friend, if nor for lucky dice and fortuitous positioning.
  • If the Dispel Magic had failed, we would have had to pepper Andesain while she churned out spells.
  • Heather had some serious good luck: a critical with a shocking grasp, and Andesain failed her save vs Hold Undead. If she hadn't failed, or if the shocking grasp hadn't criticalled...

In other words, we had a lot of good luck in that fight. Without it, several of us certainly would have gone down.

Male Elf Rogue 6

Kel already had a cloak of resistance +1, if anybody wants that. If not, we can add it to the list of things that we're not tracking but want to sell.

That just means Pharasma was on our side, right? ;-)

Heather would probably benefit from it the most (if she doesn't already have one). That's because she's got two weak saves in Fortitude and Reflex. Istas has two good saves in Fortitude and Will, so there's not as high of a need for her. That said, we should all eventually pick up one as we loot creatures and NPCs along the way. Unless there's a better cloak item out there, we might as well take the cloaks of resistance as they come.

Heather will thank you for that..her fort save took a beating in this adventure.

I'll give my gratitude to our DM though for my success, Had Tim not allowed us to load up on wands and scrolls to the equivilant of 7th level characters we could never have pulled that off.Still gear is no substitute for Character abilities.

And the Handy Haversack was a godsend saving me move actions to change wands in the heat of battle.

Anyway I look forward to the philisophical discussion Heather is going to have with Istas after this is all over.I think I may have spotted a flaw in her argument.

Male Human, Varisian Pure-Blood Fighter 5/Rogue 2

I agree about the cloaks. Em needs to get his Will save up at some point, but he has good Reflex and Fort saves to be going on with.

Cool! I'm all about roleplaying flawed characters with strong convictions, erroneous or otherwise. :-)

Exactly. Plus, Istas can always cast resistance on herself and the rest of you before a situation where it might be needed. So, if we can prepare ourselves ahead of time, she can always give you the equivalent of a cloak of resistance +1 for a short duration. And, as an orison, she can keep casting it at-will when the spell expires.

Availability alert: I'll be on a week-long vacation with my family at the beach starting June 9th thru June 16th. I'm uncertain if we'll have internet connectivity at the beach house...and I'm assuming I won't. So, if you need to DMPC Istas, go ahead.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Friday's work trip turned into 2 days plus now I've got to finish the reports for all last week's work ASAP. Monday's trip has been extended to Wednesday. Might be Thursday before I can post again. Sorry.

I was going to suggest holding off until Neil gets back anyway, if he indeed doesn't have an internet connection. Istas has a pivotal role to play against Ramoska, and I don't think any of us can do her justice.

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

I've got intermittent internet. Enough to check in and see what's transpiring, but unlikely that I'll be able to time my posts to coincide with keeping the initiative order flowing smoothly.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Sorry, for the absence. I am sucking wind at work, and now have got some personal issues to deal with. It will probably be Thursday before I return to DMing.

No worries, Tim. Take care of business. We'll be here.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Sorry for the delay. More things came up.

You say that like it's a bad thing... ;-P

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Oh it's not, it's great characterisation, and I'm just itching to hear it...

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

work fell apart again. Monday morning I got the call, "can you go...?" Long days all this week.

Tim, Mate.

Seriously.

Your Job Stinks

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Unless it pays really, really well. In fact even if it doesn't. Jobs are at a premium these days.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Small company. So we feel the ebb and flow of business quite keenly. I had a couple very good years with plenty of time at home and for posting. The last few months are just the inevitable payback.

So what's going on with everyone? Are we each waiting for the other to post something?

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

Thom's burdened with work. I'm headed to PaizoCon and on another writing deadline, so I'm actually appreciating the break at the moment.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Fair enough, I am down with flu at the moment anyway. When we are ready to proceed, all will be good.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Good question. Been pulling myself together. Should be able to post tonight about 7 pm.

Ending my last post with "don't move too fast" may have been a mistake. Didn't mean to suppress posts. I just didn't want anyone to post a page and a half of premeptively killing the vampire, forcing me to say, "You start to do that but he wins initiative and does this first."

He knows Istas is likely to be trouble and is ready.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Responses? Actions? Anyone?

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

FYI...I'm locked down on a new writing assignment with one of the most aggressive deadlines I've faced in awhile. So, I may not be able to do Istas justice for a bit. NPC as appropriate.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Thanks, Neil, for the heads up. Good luck on your deadline.

I don't feel up to writing Istas' dialogue tonight. If one of you wants to give it a try go for it. It seems the moment for one of her speeches. Otherwise I'll tackle it tomorrow.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Wow. Are we all so intimidated by Istas? I know I am. It's tough to write dialogue to match Neil's. Also, I'm not sure whether to jump the vampire right now or try to negotiate.

I'll take a crack at it.

Oops. Missed this first time through. Good question. My initial typically contrary gut reaction is that his undead condition trumps human. Who else has an opinion?

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

If it was an undead bane weapon would we be arguing that he may count as human? Undead is a type, not a subtype, so I would say no the human-bane property doesn't count.

I'll be honest I'm loath to fight this guy..and know Istas is going to make us do that anyway..

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

On the bright side you've got me running him. Odds are I'll forget some cool ability that would ruin your day.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

If a 23 can't hit is AC, he doesn't need cool abilities.

Now do you see why I didnt want to fight him

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Maybe if you threw him Istas, he'd be mollified.

On the plus side Dabbler. If you hit him you'll likely be rolling crits!

Arkminos is tough, no doubt. I figured Istas would go for him like a terrier for a rat. That's partly why I sent Fina, to provide an extra target for him, but I hadn't thought about domination then. That only occured to me when I made the post where she attacks Heather. Unintended consequences.

Still, I have no doubt you'll pull through.

I will be away from my PC from tomorrow(Tuesday) until Friday Evening. Taking my Family for a Short Vacation

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

OK, you got me Thom, it was a crit (well, a threat, don't know if it critted). Another half-a-dozen of those and I might manage to bring him down...

Where's Buffy Summers when you need her

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

I'll be out for the weekend starting Friday night. Funny how it dovetails with Wellard.

Sorry Dabbler, no crit.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Meh, it was still a hit! I'll just have to try harder...

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Leaving for vacation weekend. see you Monday.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

I love playing with you guys.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

I know, we are awesome.

and Modest too..lol

awwww, shucks.

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

FYI...I'm bound for GenCon. So, I'll probably be out of it until at least Tuesday of next week. NPC Istas, as usual. And put the smack down on that nosferatu.

I don't know. He's off to a pretty good start so far and he's not in a talking mood.

Have fun at the Con.
