For all those hungry for more here's the OOC for the Iobarian Saga I've been promising: Black Dow: DM O' The North's Iobarian Saga
"Oh Skane you're so generous..." (flutters eyes, and tosses her gold kissed braids)
;)

Here is our buxom valkyrie and she-bear Bjornhildt: She's a tad confused as to why she's not married to the gallant alfur or valiant prestur... but she'll take council on such matters from her wiser, stronger, ruggedly handsome shield brother Skane... when her hearts not beating and she's giddly with infation that is! ;)
HA! HA! HA! I love it! Welcome back! Oh, and I'm back, too.

Hey all. 6 months on the pbp and 1000 posts later. Our thread needed a healthy bump to keep it falling off the edge.
Glad to see everyone's still on board. My rate of posting has slowed down with baby and work taking a good chunk of it. Its fun though, hope to see you guys hit 2nd level soon..
Any suggestions on how to improve the game? Would gladly hear about it.

Randall - posting pace has actually picked up of late, was in the doldrums for a wee while but me made it. And given your family situ think your doing a mighty fine job.
To be honest the sedate[ish] pace makes it easier to keep track of other games I'm in [and when my own pbp kicks off easier to manage lol].
As for ways to improve? Things are ticking over nicely - am missing our campfire repartee a little, but since we're closing on the sharper end of the game that's forgivable...
BigPig is a tasty challenge - something bigger for us to tackle [one tough sob vs a group combat] so again the balance is right. Would like to see some undead and possibly natural hazards to allow druids and priests to come into their own - as with Skane I've a pretty easy party role :)
With 2nd level we'll see more abilities and options come into play which should enliven things even more.
All in all - its been a great 6 months and am still loving the game, the group and the character lol.

I agree with Skane, across the board. I do not see much room for improvement at all. Bang up job, Randall, looking forawrd to more, provided we survive the Porker...will be a stiff challenge!

This game is good but the only thing that is a problem I can solve by putting a rank in linguistics at second level to understand half the banter.
Wesh bráðabirgða- góð kaup benda. Þessi er the eini skarð ÉG geta sjá í this herferð. Hvenær allir að lokum koma í kring til tal the sannur tunga , það vilja verða mikill auðveldlega til miðla.

Hvenær allir að lokum koma í kring til tal the sannur tunga , það vilja verða mikill auðveldlega til miðla. = Wesh makes a good point. That is the only gap I can see in this campaign. When everyone finally comes around to speaking the true tongue, it will become much easier to communicate.

I really do not think it is necessary for all of us to go through the trouble of adapting to a translator to add to PbP flavor. Maybe you could speak common like most people?
Dieredon D'atarisian |
OK - I just want to weigh in on my thoughts regarding this one last time. I am with you Skane, and I enjoy the flavor of the language that only some of the party shares, but you certainly does not have any issue interacting with others in a common tongue. I just wish Bjorn would as well - I think it would just make things more fun and realistic. As it stands now, Bjorn only speaks in the foreign tongue, yet he has no problem using the other conversations that we all have to decide upon his actions. Seems like we are just kept out of the loop regarding the development of what is a really interestig PC. I have tried numerous times to pull it out of Bjorn, but he will not budge, and suggesting that we ALL learn the language is way too presumptuous. I am glad that Wesh also wants to see it play out a little differently. That is the end of my 2 cents on this, and I will be left to proceed however Bjorn sees fit. :-)
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Dieredon think Bjorn probably can speak simple Common, but prefers his mother tongue in matters of importance - he defaults as it were.
Your of course presuming that the interplay between the Northmen is actually interesting!
I think Bjorn is being played well in character - he's married now so perhaps his missus will act as herald or he'll become more chatty.
In all seriousness if it is a problem, then its an easy mechanic to remedy.
Randall what's your take?
Dieredon D'atarisian |
If this damn boar decides to gore me further while I am down, then my lack of Skald understanding will leave poor Wesh and the Brambleknight as the only ignorant beings alive in the group.

Wait! That's a language?
Betony just thought you growled a lot, and Skane would interpret what you meant, like 'me hungry', or 'me like woman', sort of like how Betony can tell when Thistledown is hungry, or upset, or detects something nearby.
Betony probably has the skill point to spare, but would be very bad at it.
Dieredon D'atarisian |
Oh well, I guess that means I am outnumbered in the event that Bjorn does not want to ease up on it's usage. If everyone is learning it, then I will have to as well...provided I survive.
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Provided we all survive!
Uber pig now faces 2 Northman... hopefully Wesh can get you up in the fight [or at least to safety]
If the sleep fails [and part of me hopes it does - this could be an epic scrap]
On the language front hwat happens is we directly translate to each other [Bjorn and Skane] and reverse translate to Rianna [or non-native speakers] - which isn't always 100% accurate [but can be even funnier than the original meaning]

I got to be better at tracking money on line in the forum, because for some Reason HeroLab doesn't spit out your current cash.
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
By my reckoning Skane is 90xp clear of the 1,300 Fast Track XP threshold for 2nd level.
Know we're all moving at slightly different paces due to Deeptown encounters etc. Would you prefer us to be levelling up together Randall or can those that are able, level up when we make camp?
Am cool either way :)
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Wesh I gained an extra bonus of XP 150 for winning the contest in Deeptown. You may have gained similar bonuses for doing stuff, but as Randall mentioned we all seem to be gaining at different speeds...
I was 90 clear so that would explain the 150 discrepency?
Randall - cool looking forward to adding a feat and some much needed HP :)

Yeah, I am at 1,240 XP also, so it looks right, Wesh.

Dieredon is leveled - and yes I did take the Linguistics so that I can finally understand what the hell Bjorn is saying...not sure if it will make me want to kill him more or less now. LOL
HP: 1d10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8

See regards the XP dip for some of the party I'm reading that burying the bodies or at least blessing their passing might have netted some of the more good aligned PC's some bonus XP??
Randall's comment regarding if anyone would bury us might have been a tip???
Thoughts? Or am I looking into this too much lol.
Perhaps the Northmen's neutral influence is gathering too much sway lol...
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Skane levelled up;
Randall do we roll or take average for new HP?
Skills Ranks: Climb, Intimidate, Perception & Survival
New feat chosen:- Saving Shield:Whenever an adjacent ally is the target of an attack, you can, as an immediate action, grant that adjacent ally a +2 shield bonus to AC. You must be wielding a light shield, heavy shield, or tower shield to use this feat.
Should help us in close combat situations nei?
Randall - remember I mooted a changeup of Skane's traits from before [wanted to swap Born on the Battlefield for the Shield Bearer trait from Humans of Golarian? Can I go ahead and do this? (tis the prefect trait for Skane!)
Shield Bearer (Ulfen): You have survived many battles thanks to your skill with your shield. When performing a shield bash, you deal 1 additional point of damage. Also, once per day on your turn as a free action, you may provide one adjacent ally a +2 trait bonus to his Armor Class. This bonus lasts for 1 round, so long as you and the target remain adjacent to one another. You can only use this ability if you are using a shield. You retain your shield bonus to your armor class when using this ability.
