Welcome to my Three Days to Kill discussion thread. We will be discussing character creation, background and other related stuff.
This is my first foray as a pbp DM.
Sources
All source books from Paizo publishing, I may ask for references on stuff I'm not familiar with, I may deny stuff that I don't like.
Characters
Classes that are full or 3/4 BAB progression only.
Experience Track
Fast
Alignment
NO LG, EVIL, CN
Background
A few sentences that answers the question "Why am I currently working as a caravan guard on the way to Deeptown". Develop and update your character as the adventure progresses.
Wealth
Per class Average or rolled whichever is higher.
Traits
1 only, don't choose anything that adds bonus to init. Suit to background.
Stats
Point build at 20. I may give bonus points to unpopular classes. Ask.
For now I'd just like a standard format of (Race, Gender, Alignment, Class). Thanks.
Filios will be posting as Dieredon D'atarisian for this PbP. Character build to follow. The city does not ring a bell. Is it in Galarion? If so, where?
I have two concepts floating around and want to see which might fit the group better once everyone checks in and of course DMRandell's preference.
1) Half-elf, male, LN, Rogue(Investigator-Scout) - Perhaps posing as a merchant, hired by a consortium to keep an eye on some problems the caravan has been having.
2) Gnome, female, NG, Cavalier(Knight of the Shield) - a Wolfrider, she is a bit of a wildfey child, think The Green Knight. Popular with the caravans for her knowledge of the local terrain and wild inhabitants, often diffusing situations before they end up in conflict.
Dieredon is a, Elf, CG, Ranger(Skirmisher) using a two-handed weapon combat technique (Elven Curve Blade) - He has served as a Scout and Hunter in his homeland, but a wanderlust for adventure has led him to the caravan as a Scout/Hunter/Tracker.

I guess that means a bard is out of the question. :-)
I'll change my concept, though I would like to see what everyone else is putting forth. I would like to try something that is a little different and don't want to double up on anything.

Knowing that a bard can be played, are you still for the Ulfen savage skald? I see that we need a healer. I was thinking an Ulfen priest of maybe Gorum, haven't decided on cleric, druid or oracle.
Dieredon's character sheet is complete. Please see his profile.
randall793: Is it ok with you if I reserve the right to change Favored Enemy once I find out more about the PbP? Are we primarily outdoors, dungeon setting, and any hints? There is nothing worse than a Ranger with a Favored Enemy that is NEVER encountered. ;-)
A Bard is 3/4. Just no Wizard, Sorcerer..and witch I believe. I was surprised to see even the Summoner is 3/4.
Huh. I was at work when I typed that, and I could have sworn a bard was the same as a wizard. Well that's good news. I'll still make my bard then. Unless you don't want a bard.
It is a wilderness setting. We will be using the pathfinder deity pantheon. The Deeptown area is non-Golarion, but I'd see how the adventure ends before using it to springboard further ones.
Do you rarely see cavaliers because you don't like them or people are hesitant to play one? This one would be small to boot, but the wolf mount makes up a little. A wilderness setting would be good for the cavalier too, more chances to get a charge in while mounted.
Let me know, not wedded to the concept, but like you, haven't seen that many either and wanted to give one a chance.
Starting Gold: 2d6 x 10 = 70 gp, Average = 70 gp That's how it's done!
NICE!
I have updated my profile.
Quick note on some things that may or may not be allowed.
I took Power of Suggestion as my trait. This can be found in the Adventurers Armory.
Rianna is a Bard with the Street Performer Archetype.
I used the avg. gold of 105 since I rolled less.
She has both a reinforced scarf and a pocketed scarf.
One of my feats is the Harrowed feat from Curse of the Crimson Throne.
The first chance I get, I would like to purchase a masterwork Harrow Deck. The idea being that it is considered a Masterwork Fortune Tellers deck for game mechanics. I figure cost would be 150 gp. Is this possible?
If I need to change any of this, please let me know.
Thanks for the invite to play.
Black Dow(M Hairy Highlander Halfbreed Barbarian 9/King o' the North 4)
Ditto on the invite - looking forward to this [my first foray into pbp]
I'll be throwing Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn into the mix
A hard bitten Ulfen Fighter, axe and shield, will probably go N in alignment also...
Know we're allowed one trait - wondered if this is "bumpable" with Additional Traits feat?
Bjorn's stats are up. He'll have come from Irrisen (gave him Fey Foundling feat) and once grown went 'aviking. He was a regular bezerk in battle, slavoring and just as likely to rend people with his bare hands as cleave them with his weapon (Killer trait). The time at sea had an effect on him. He turned to Gozreh for reflection upon his wrathful nature and achieved some balance. On their last attack, the vikings were defeated and Bjorn escaped capture and death. After several weeks in the wild, he came upon a settlement and hired himself out as he could, landing with a caravan as one of the guards. I'll flesh it out later today.

Will throw together a profile for Skäne pending above question
There could always have been two vikings who escaped death and ended up on a caravan...
Agree with you Bjorn - makes sense that both our boys came via the same path... I've built on the snippets you put in your background in mine [not written in stone however feel free to critique!]

They make an imposing pair right enough...
I'll say! Great choice on the feat. I was going to take that until I realized that I lacked the CHA.
Betony Avilia(Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield)
OK, here is Meowzebub's gnome cavalier. Female, Gnome, Cavalier, CG. Built on a 23 point buy.
If this makes us too melee heavy, I will still work up my rogue idea as a backup (1/2elf, male, rogue, LN). I looked at the alchemist, but just not a fan of the mutagens, I hope archetypes will come along to allow those to be dropped.

Aye they'll be singing our saga soon enough :)
Looking forward to this immensely - what timezones are we all on?
I will be adding a little more to my background. Right now its pretty basic. She is from a gypsy caravan that would travel throughout Varisia, but mainly on a route that took them from Brinewall in the north to Magnimar in the south. She has since left the gypsy life due to an uncontrollable wanderlust, unusual even for a human, to explore more of the world and to gain knowledge.
You know, Meowzebub did state a female and cavalier before knowing that each of those were worth 2d3 extra build points. Shouldn't the caracter get 2d3 for cavalier and an another 2d3 for female?
Finished with some final equipment tinkers for Skäne...
Am in sunny Scotland (GMT+0) but hopefully won't be too much of a posting issue :)
Party's shaping up nicely - on paper think we look pretty impressive mix, although who knows what Deeptown (and Randall) has in store for us!
Betony Avilia(Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield)
I have finalized the profile. Bumped up her 'feyness' a bit with her background story and how she came to be the cavalier that she is, 'The Bramble Knight'.
Also, downgraded her armor to banded so I could afford barding for her wolf. She does not have any money sense, so I backstoried how she gets her major equipment.
And Drayen, thanks for lobbying. ;-), but I agree with Randell that I don't want to be too out of balance.
oh, and I am in New Mexico, GMT-7 and pretty much plugged into a computer all day, so posting is never an issue, short of an occasional business trip.
@SN: I'm thinking we need a rogue or ninja. :o Someone with sneak attack. With all of the heavy hitters in this group, finding a flanking buddy shouldn't be a problem. :)
female character (very few are willing to play this)
rogue (initially was going to be monk) (both classes get a lot of hate)
tiefling (rarely used when human is better)
"child" (child pcs are heavily disliked)
psuedo oriental background (the boards seem to hate japanese flavored characters)
and being played by a user named shuriken nekogami whom the boards really seem to hate
Betony Avilia(Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield)
Whoa, slow down there. You are proposing a 44 pt character for a 20 pt game. Randell was offering 2d3 for female or little used classes...back that list of yours up.
Plus, I won't put too much more effort till Randell checks in. He did not mention seeking more players, and there was at least one other standby from our initial recruitment. I would request his attention to this and then wait for an possible invite.

i removed that list as i came to the conclusion it was a little excessive and edited out a lot of uneeded rolls. i guess my processing delay makes this an issue plus i was distracted by other stuff today.
i kept the set of 2d3 i rolled in a seperate post instead of that 10d3 i rolled at once.
is the little yokai girl okay now?
originally i was going to use those 10d3 to maximize a monk. but by changing the character to a rogue, i realized i needn't those extra 18 points and i now have a 26 point buy rogue i'd like to propose that shouldn't be anywhere near as that monk and actually has no real negatives. my 2d3 is several posts above, as is my wealth roll. the 2d3 = a result of 6. my original goal was to be mathematically viable without a negative stat.
i heard the group needed a trapfinder/sneak attacker.
i wasn't entirely "coherent" when i rolled the 10d3, i was miffed at my saturday DM, a little tired from hunger, miffed at my stomach issues, potentially ill, and felt picked on by my saturday group yesterday. by the DM, the Dice gods, and the players. and i had a mike's hard black cherry lemonade.
As to what you may have heard, it wasn't mentioned in this thread until after your first post. I politely suggest going to the original thread and posting there with the hopes that you may be selected as an alternate.
Perhaps, you didn't read Betony's post. I'll attempt to politely re-emphasize a couple of points she made.
The GM was not actively seeking more players
There is at least one standby before you
Trying to break the system before we even start does not sit well with other players who are trying to enjoy the game for what it is and not gaming the system
Having a player who is playing a psychopathic deranged female child who may or may not have been sexually abused does not sit well with myself and most of society
Please refrain from further inquiries until the GM has responded.
i am sorry for seeming to have had the intent to break the system.
the 10d3 was more of an incoherent way of proving a point on how abusable this particular "system" is. i personally dislike such abusable systems and was kind of showing (incoherently and a little offensively) how the 2d3 thing could be abused. and the way he worded it, it seemed to be that it stacked. and thats where the 10d3 came from. and the 44 point monk i edited out was a way of showing how abusable the system could become.
a simple thing like 2d3 per rarely used detail could be very abusable.
i wasn't so much trying to game the system as much as i was proving a point.
i guess i could take being denied approval for this game as a sufficient punishment.
even the most minor of house rules are ripe for abuse.
and now that i think about it, a 44 point monk wouldn't have been too bad. especially considering they are so demanding of high stats that most other classes have a lot less need for.
