Yes, we are. Sorry. Work has become almost frantic.
As I read the grapple rules the lions have a CMB of 7+5+1= 13
base attack +7, str bonus +5, size +1
The dire lion on Sleepy is 12+7+2=21
With improved grab there's no AoO.
Elmora CMB = 7, SLeepy CMB = 11 To get to grapple the lions have to beat 15 + your CMB.
Elmora 14 + 13 = 27 . You're grappled.
Sleepy 11+ 21 = 32. You're grappled.
Please double check me . It's late , I'm tired, and I'm working too fast for accuracy.
Also, the rules (p. 150) don't seem clear to me. They don't mention an opposing check by the target. That just doesn't seem right.
Strangler: No longer wants to grapple kitties. You pound them to mush instead. Two dead kitties. Really , really dead kitties. This Octopus thing is ridiculous.
Subject to double check by the party, Sleepy and Elmora are grappled. (p. 400)
Initiative: Most of you have moved down waiting for opponents to come to you.
Tialla

Actions posted so far. You may change these actions depending on if I've handled the grappples correctly.
Tialla. Free action, drop sling; free action (Quick Draw), draw shortswords; full attack on the lion.
Full attack (1d20+13=27, damage 1d4+3=5; 1d20+8=9, damage 1d4+3=4; 1d20+13=15, damage 1d4+2=3; 1d20+8=12, damage 1d4+2=6)
Looks like 8 damage total. You will have your flanker soon. Strangler was behind you in the marching order.
Blackie attacks the lion attacking Grumbly.
Full Attack: 1d20+14=21, 1d6+6+1d6=11, 1d20+9=25, 1d6+7+1d6=14
Sleepy will fight back ... obviously, and spend another ki point for an additional FoB attack.
Flurry of Blows 1: 1d20+8=28 2d6+2=11
Flurry of Blows 2: 1d20+8=14 2d6+2=12
Flurry of Blows 3: 1d20+3=6 2d6+2=5
Flurry of Blows 4: 1d20+8=18 2d6+2=8

Flurry of Blows 1: 1d20+8=28 2d6+2=11
Flurry of Blows 2: 1d20+8=14 2d6+2=12
Flurry of Blows 3: 1d20+3=6 2d6+2=5
Flurry of Blows 4: 1d20+8=18 2d6+2=8
Sleepy will stick with his declared actions this round. This imposes a -2 to his attack rolls (as per the grappled condition, page 400). The above FoB attacks are modified as follows:
Flurry of Blows 1: 1d20+8-2=26 2d6+2=11
Flurry of Blows 2: 1d20+8-2=12 2d6+2=12
Flurry of Blows 3: 1d20+3-2=4 2d6+2=5
Flurry of Blows 4: 1d20+8-2=16 2d6+2=8
We'll see how well this works out ... being pinned does not look good.
Wow...regular lions have a BAB of +3, and these lions have a BAB of +7! This is a souped-up dire lion, too (+12 BAB instead of +6). No wonder they're so good at grappling.
On Strangler's turn he makes another 8 tentacle lashes (and one bite) at any lions within range. (no grapples) Note that all of his damage is nonlethal, so the lions are not dead, just resting.

If the lion I was fighting is killed by another player I will spring to the one that's on Elmora with a single attack. If the one I'm fighting is alive I'll slaughter it with a Full attack.
Talia hits manticore with sling, manticore hasn't acted yet in the round so is flat-footed, SA applies.

Attack 2 crit confirm: d20 + 11: 27, confirm: +2d10 = 19
Grumbly turns lion 5 into a charburger.

Sleepy hits Dire Lion w/3 FoB attacks as it closes.
Dire lion hits Sleepy for 19 points, fails grapple.
Tialla full attack on Lion 1, 2 of four attacks hit, she does 8 points.
Elmora successfully casts Enlarge Person on herself.
--- The following PC/lion attacks are all simultaneous:
Strangler first throws 3 tentacles on Lion 3, squishing it and knocking it unconscious. Then reaching out with 2 more toward the one on Tialla, knocking that one unconscious too. Lastly, two more reach out for the lion on Elmora, severely wounding that one too.
Grumbly first attack on Lion 6, hits, does 17 more damage and kills it. Seeing Elmora in trouble, he then moves to kill that one.
Blackie sees that most of the lions are down or under control, except for the manticore and the dire lion. Moving to Sleepy's side, he attacks:

Fantastic! Just one comment: a creature with Improved Grab does natural weapon damage (bite damage, in the case of lions) instead of unarmed strike damage on a successful grapple check.

Thanks, I'm sure I made a few mistakes. I think I got Strangler's AC in octopus form correct, but not 100% sure. I'll correct all the mistakes pointed out for the next round. I also neglected to add some of the human racial bonuses to Sleepy's stats (2 points to stats, favored class bonuses, etc.), so I'll look at that too.
Without some means of flight, Tialla's pretty much useless now. I don't think her little 1d3+1 sling is going to make much of a difference to the manticore. Anyone got any suggestions?
Seeing the Octo-Druid and the Monk in hard shape, Bartimus pulls forth his battered mug, raises it in a salute and says, "If you don't heal 'em mate, their stories won't be worth the tellin'!"
Channel Energy (attempting to catch the Monk and Octo-Druid in the burst): 5d6=22

22 healing to Octo and Monk!
I'm assuming Bart will try to position himself to catch the monk and druid? I noticed he doesn't have Selective Channeling, so if any lions are in the burst, they too will be healed.

If I might revise, attack the dire lion in front of me now and I'll move to channel next round. Sorry, missed the map, which is VERY helpful by the way!
Tialla whips that little sling of hers up towards the manticore: d20 + 3: 23, crit confirm d20+3: 19, confirmed, (d3+1)x2: 4 points.
Elmora attempts to break the stranglehold the lion has on her: 23 vs DC 27 (15 + lion's CMB: 3 base + 5 str + 2 improved grab), failure, Elmora is not free.
All actions from here on are simultaneous

Strangler the Octopus glubbers with rage at the cowardly manticore. He gains a little more altitude and then blasts the flying lion with a gout of divine flame!
Elmora will hold her action, waiting for Grumble to free her.
Why doesn't Elmora just cast a spell (e.g. Glitterdust)? The Spellcraft DC is pretty trivial -- DC 17.
Remember -- being grappled is way, way less painful than it is in 3.5. You can even make (one-handed) attacks normally, if you want.
glitterdust isn't going to help with the grapple...I did look at the different spells I could cast, I didn't choose many actual attack spells. Remember he's going to run several encounters linked. I'm sure I'll be free after grumble's attack, glitterdust would cause grumble to have to roll or be blinded himself...also note: I have a long bow and elven curved blade. I have 3k of stuff I can still buy, but I didn't get around to it during creation, so I'll wait til after this battle to buy a one-handed weapon.
I apologize I wasn't clearer. If you look at the map, there is only one target left - the manticore. Grumbly did, indeed, send the lion on Elmora into the lion-afterlife, in round 3.
Elmora quickly recovers from the lion, and draws back her bow three times, launching flaming death at the manticore1d20+8=25, 1d20+8=15, 1d20+3=22 (reduced attack numbers due to large size.)
Now that this encounter is over, I would appreciate any thoughts on this. We should round up the relevant points and post them to the playtest reports forum. Let's use the discussion thread to organize our thoughts.
