Bosch and Typhon work as a team to bring Lady Andaisin down. Their blows make certain she won't be getting up again. Her pale body falls limply on the cold stone temple floor. The rich red of her blood is a strange contrast to her unnaturally pale skin. Her glowing scythe clatters next to her. The woman who created the blood veil that is plaguing Korvosa is dead. Yet you still feel cold, malevolent energy filling the chamber.

Another good point, Bosch- use her prone stats while she is getting up (-4 to AC).

" No offense Trey, but most clerics REALLY creep me out. 'specially plague followers. Not that I've ever met any before today."

Map of Korvosa | Encounter Map

Just as Typhon kicks away the scythe and Trey investigates the source of the evil energy, its source becomes apparent. Lady Andaisin's body crackles with unholy power. Eerie black and green lightning crackle over her corpse. You hear a strange buzzing sound. Slowly, the corpse is lifted into the air! It floats about ten feet over your heads. You realize that it did not rise on its own - a swarm of flies has lifted it! Now they swirl beneath Lady Andaisin and crawl over every inch of her lifeless body.

Trey can feel the unholy energy growing. It brings on a feeling of sickness and fever. The despair of knowing a loved one has died. A ravenous hunger to eat and consume. There can only be one source. Urgathoa's power is suffusing the room with soul-wrenching evil.

Yrsa also remains near the unholy spectacle taking place before her, prepared to defend her friends.

The foul substances and flies begin to congeal into a sickening new body. Exposed intestines and twisting bones warp into gruesome weapons. Scraps of flesh become a tattered gown. Supremely powerful muscles twist into a single tentacle-tail.

The hideous creature slowly floats to the ground, twisting into an upright stance. You can see that Lady Andaisin's new body towers over you - she stands nearly fifteen feet tall. One of her arms had mutated into an enormous, scythe-like weapon. "Pallid Princess! I shall complete my duties to you. Truly, I am blessed to have a second chance to destroy Korvosa!"

Lady Andaisin's monologue is cut short by a burst of holy light. Trey can feel Sarenrae's holy light and wrath empowering her fight against this hated, undead enemy.

Tessa lets forth a blast of supernatural fire straight into the woman's face.

Trey recognizes this monstrosity - a Daughter of Urgathoa. She recalls rumors that the chosen of the goddess of pestilence are sometimes given the gift of undeath to complete the works of their mistress and to lead her church. During their transformation, the Daughter's powers over death and disease become stronger. They grow strange appendages that can inflict disease with a touch and retain their ability to channel Urgathoa's powers.

If there were any last actions before you explore the last part of the Hospice of the Blessed Maiden, go ahead and retcon.

Traveling back through the room with the trapped leukodaemon and into the room with the vats of blood veil, you arrive at a door leading northward. Opening it, you find an elegant operating table dominates the center of this grim laboratory. Crossed with iron restraints and encircled by a gore-encrusted gutter, the macabre device sprouts various cranks and levers, and is large enough to accomodate an ogre. Along the walls stand several tables strewn with all manner of alchemical accoutrements, their contents appearing old in the extreme, with rusted iron tools, beakers of purpled glass, and deep pools of wax from countless melted candles.

A young and unconscious man, barely older than twenty winters, lies upon the operating table, bound by heavy restraints. His deeply tanned skin and dark hair indicate he is likely of Varisian descent. Although his eyes are closed, you can see his chest rising and falling as he breathes.

A somberly dressed man stands at one of the tables littered with alchemical supplies, manipulating various vials, powders, and needles. He looks up as you open the door. Intense and as pale as death, he stands rigidly, his eyes wide and intense, and his nose wrinkled in an expression of extreme distaste. Yellow teeth bared, his overly large incisors jut forward, not like those of a man, but of a filth-hungry vermin. He does not attack or speak. Instead, he silently studies you patiently, as if judging you and your intents.

Thank you, I had forgotten about the remove disease. Yes, it worked.

The man turns to Typhon. His voice is dry and his expression is annoyed at your intrusion."I am Ramoska Arkminos. My master sent me here to assist Lady Andaisin. This boy is my latest experiment. The Varisians bear a natural resistance to blood veil. No matter how they are exposed, they do not become infected. Given my vast knowledge of virulent diseases, Lady Andaisin requested I investigate the nature of this immunity and find a way to bypass it." Ramoska shakes his head, looking frustrated. "But I have not discovered a method. No thanks to those imbeciles, Rolth and Davaulus. Inhaled forms, direct ingestion or injection, even weakening of the body. No matter how I alter the blood veil, it simply does not function on Varisians. This young man is perfectly fine. Given time, he will make a complete recovery."

Turning to Bosch, Ramoska makes a raspy sound that might be laughter. "I bear no love for the cult of Urgathoa, the Red Mantis, or the Gray Maidens. I propose a bargain. I will sell this youth to you-" he indicates the Varisian teen strapped to the table. "for two thousand gold pieces or items of equal value. I reckon once it calms down, academics will be in from all corners to study what remains. What if they found out one Ramoska Arkminos beat them to the punch on it?"

Arkminos purses his thin, gray lips and muses softly to himself. "It is difficult for one like myself to be recognized. Imagine... a vampire respected among the scholars and academics." You see a plan forming in Arkminos' mind. "Perhaps... yes, perhaps they could help me in my research. An entire school full of students, eager to learn the mysteries of the arcane..." he mutters.

Arkminos looks up and addresses the group. "Very well, I accept your offer. You take the boy and my books and I leave with my belongings. Yet I may be able to assist you further. Do you know anyone at the Academae? Get me an introduction with the headmaster and you may keep everything in this lab and my bedchamber aside from my suitcase."

Sense Motive, DC23:

You notice Arkminos is very pleased with Bosch's idea and very interested in going to Korvosa's famous magical Academae.

I probably should have described this earlier... Let me know if it is confusing and I will clarify.
Typhon notices the details of the strange table restraining the unconscious Varisian man. Three strong sets metal restraints hold him in place. Three identical levers on the side of the table fit into a series of twenty slots. It looks like the levers can slide back and forth into these slots and that they connect to the restraints somehow. Currently, all three levers are in the tenth spots, exactly in the middle of the mechanism. Words at each end of the levers' paths suggest the mechanisms' use, "up" to the left and "down" to the right.

"I am glad we are able to come to an agreement." Arkminos smiles his eerie fanged smile and bows gracefully. "Give me a moment to gather my things and I shall be on my way." Manipulating the various levers on the table, he looses the metal contraptions holding the young man to the operating table. The young man groans but does not wake. The vampire gathers the various vials and beakers on the counter but does not touch the notebooks that Typhon and Bosch were eying.

After he has finished in the operating room, Arkminos goes to the western side of the room. He presses a stone in the wall and a hidden door swings open. Through the doorway, you can see several open trunks, piles of books, stacks of parchments, and an elegant black-canopied bed. After carefully sorting through the books and parchments, Arkminos packs two of the trunks. He leaves a stack of tomes and papers on the bed. "You may find these helpful in your research as well," he rasps. "I shall leave you with the boy. Unless there is something else you should ask of me?"

After answering any of your questions, Arkminos pulls his cloak closely around himself and the trunks. With a sound like the cracking of a whip, he and the trunks vanish.

Spellcraft, DC 19:

Arkminos cast dimension door.

We can retcon if you had any questions for Arkminos.

Not up on all the technical healer stuff, Ty narrows his focus to the strange bed that the boy is on...
Taking 20 on search for traps, would hate to accidently quarter the guy...for a check of 32, of course, Ty can't find magical traps so it might be moot...

"I will see about dropping a word to the Academae," Bosch promised as the vampire vanished into thin air.

"One less problem to deal with," Bosch says, heaving a sigh. "Let's get these people and evidence out of here. Ty? Can you provide us a distraction until we get everyone clear?"

Grumf Yrsa shudders. Thankfully that's now out of my jurisdiction, he seemed already out of our league, without Trey or Tessa's help. His research could actually be helpful, though. Strange motives, that creature.

Ty loosens the restraints and sets the boy free.
" Stay with them, they will get you out of here."

" Sure thing Bossman. I'll run back to the ground floor and pop the smoke again. It'll give you cover to get everybody out the way you came in. Also give you time I hope to get that things notes and stuff.... Don't forget my bottle of smoke on your way out. It'll be by the exit..."
Heading back to the elevator room, Ty tries to leave the elevator for the others, climbing up to the ground floor.

Once on the next level up or roof, he draws both daggers and folds his arms in his cloak, hooting as loud as possible to draw attention.
" Hear me! I am the Dark Owl! I bring Justice for the poor and downtrodden. Flee this place of foul experiments and tortures! They are not trying to help anybody! They are using you for their own dark pleasures! FLEE!" He yells at the top of his lungs. All the while getting nearer the roof edge.

Carefully inspecting the gears, levers, and pulleys of the intricate table, Typhon determines that moving any of the levers to the right causes the restraints to tighten, and moving them to the left causes them to loosen. There are plenty of other cranks in the table that can adjust the height and angle of its surface.

Now that you have more time to look around the laboratory, you find that Ramoska Arkminos kept several notebooks with his observations on blood veil and other diseases. While the vampire's notes are meticulous and his handwriting careful, many hours and extensive expertise in physiology, healing and treatment of disease will be necessary to understand everything that he logged. You also find miscellaneous alchemical and medical equipment that Arkminos left behind. (worth 500 gp)
