Wow, Xmas is over! Gotta say this has been a draining one for me. Hope everyone had a good holiday season (for those who celebrate).
Looking over my PBPs this morning, I realize it's been a bigger interruption than I thought it would be. So going through and apologizing to all my games for the somewhat unexplained absence and getting updates in as applicable.

Just to let everyone know, tomorrow night I'll be attending a work holiday party, then Sunday I leave to Florida for a week. I'll try to make sure everything's as up to date as I can before the party tomorrow, but after that probably won't be able to post until at the hotel Sunday night. I should be able to post every night while in Florida, but if there's a delay it'd be work related. I come back next Friday if I completely disappear during this time for some reason.

I am in the SH*T storm to end all SH*T storms at work and will be on a considerable amount of business travel and round the clock meetings.
I'll post as often as I can but it may take 1-2 delay days for combat responses etc. IF the game is bogged on me, the GM (or any player the GM deputises) is fine to make attack actions for me.
Again, not abandoning the game but but will need just a bit of patience on everyones part.
Time for some suicide charges?

As for drinks, Helaman, had you been in town last week I would have invited you to the seasonal Geektogether. I find it difficult to attend these days what with the little kiddies and all, but seeing a good two dozen roleplayers in a pub talking about their current/past campaigns and exploits and general chit-chat can be highly amusing. : )
I'm great with dbauers joining up, if everyone else is game. He's been a good contribution to another of my games. :)

I'm more than happy for you to choose whether you want to take over Septimus' character (or Flori, if you like!), or create a new one. There are pros and cons for both; you decide what's best for you. But I am more than happy to accommodate a new party member.

As for breaking down the encounter with Father Charlatan, I'll make a more detailed post later if you like, but the core of it was that every time Lem made a Will save, he dealt 1d6 damage to the haunt, and every time he failed, he was dealt 1d6 damage himself. When Walter cast protection from evil that dealt another 1d6 damage. And then when Dragomir, Theron and Raj started directly appealing to their deities, I added 1d3 damage for each of them. After all, the gods and their associated celestial bureaucracies were none too happy with Mr. Corvin's activities during his mortal lifetime, so some payback was to be expected. : )
So on the last round, Corvin took 1d6+3d3 damage, which was enough to 'kill' him; I'll leave you to your own interpretations of the deities' actions in this case.
Let me know if you want to know how he got inside Lem in the first place. : )
Ahh, that's pretty cool. I was assuming it was all plot stuff, but it is cool to see that there were actual damage mechanics going on in the background.
On a different subject: You know, I'm starting to regret that I made Theron archery focused instead of longsword focused. Yea, I said I would just have him fill in whatever role the party was lacking (which happened to be ranged attacks), but it just feels like it would fit his religion better if his longsword wasn't just decorative at this point. Blah ;)
Yeah, I think one of the benefits of PbP with haunts is that you guys can't see me rolling damage dice and noting things down on a piece of paper. If I had a group around the table, they'd know that there was a damage mechanic going on and they'd see the size of the dice I was rolling, and a whole bunch of other information would lead them to the metagame conclusion that 'we need to kill this thing'.
You folks, though, have only my narrative to go on, and that (I reckon) will lead you to more thematic than tactical decisions about what to do.
The idea with the weights was a great one, but I didn't want Sefick to turn into a whimpering cur. I wanted him to be an unrepentant (and possibly delusional) hardarse. So he was defiant until the very end...
One of the more recent lessons I've learned as a GM is that while the mechanics are there for a reason, sometimes having the narrative depart from a strict representation of those underlying mechanics makes for a better experience, even though the mechanics carry on in the background.
At least, that's the principle. Hopefully the execution doesn't fall short and veer off into "I am removing your control over your PCs' destiny" territory. : )
Also, while Theron might be finding life tough at the moment as an archer inside a warren-like building, trust me when I say that he will have ample opportunities to shine later. I have a fighter-paladin at the moment who thanks to a convenient selection of feats, is happily dealing a minimum of 42 damage per turn (assuming only three of his four arrows per turn hit). When you amp it up with smite evil, you head up to 54 damage, and then if we're talking evil stuff it's 66. That's assuming I roll 3 on my 3d8 damage dice. His damage ceiling in a round is 116 with all four arrows hitting. It's not uncommon for Casimir to deal 80+ damage on a turn. Throw in Point Blank Master and he doesn't even take attacks of opportunity for firing with his bow. : D
Given his compatriots are a merciful healer cleric, a wizard with a focus on personal power rather than battlefield control, and a halfling hound master, he's often the only one dealing damage each turn, so he has to be pretty reliable there for the party to survive.
Still, he does give the GM conniptions from time to time. ; )
Oh, I'm not worrying about Theron being an archer inside a building. I'm pretty well aware of how horribly powerful archers can be once they have their feats and abilities together. I was just pondering the thematic problem of "longswords are a symbol of my goddess, but I'm using a bow instead".
Then again, Raj has the same thing going on as well. I guess it isn't like every follower of Iomedae just happens to be born as a high strength character ;)
