Realizing the Svetlana was not yet in a state where she would be sure to handle another blow from the creature, Jorag pulled out his wand and tapped it against her back. "Lets hope whatever deity gave power to this wand is more forthcoming than mighty Kurgess." He said as the magic took hold. Looking to the skies with a glance he quickly added. "Ofcourse, everyone can have an off day, oh great Kurgess."

Ok, corrections made... I checked the spell as I thought force/spell damage ignored DR, but saw nothing spelling it out. I found it now, under the definition of DR itself. Svet, if that was your AOO, then you didn't take your round 3 attack, applied the last one to 3 and now need a round 4 attack. Moved Frind out of the danger zone. Ignore the creature's attack, just place holding for next update.

The Pathfinders press the attack one last time and finally the Earth Elemental crumbles into dust and inert chunks of rock and soil under the assault of weapons and magic.

Looking over the rubble, you notice odd blue crystals among the usual rock and earth.

Perception DC 20:

This crystalline mineral appears to be Lazurite. You believe you see a suitable specimen , should you have the desire to collect a sample.

You move through the doors the elemental was guarding and discover another wrecked area. Broken furniture litters the room: parts of a stool, a modest writing table battered in twain, and several smashed chairs sprawl across the keep’s wooden floor.
Two sets of stairs, one in the northeast corner and one in the northwest corner, lead to a cellar beneath the prison dubbed Stavian’s Fair by the Swift’s residents.

Assuming you proceed down, make perception rolls.

Li points out the lazurite specimen to his more learned but less observant colleagues and collects a sample. He then proceeds downstairs and looks around.


The first level of Stavian’s Fair (B8) contains four large solitary confinement pens reserved for political dissidents. These cells are wooden and oddly intact, unlike the iron bars. In the southwest cell, Marco and Frindlikh locate a diary, and its last passage details the horrific abduction. Several pages beyond the last entry have been torn out.

Li observes the path further down with keen eyes. He notices something different about the stone floor at the landing below. Further investigation reveals a pressure sensitive trigger device, likely for a trap of some manner. He stops the groups progress and points out the hazard to Frindlikh. The rogue shakes his head, dismayed he failed to notice it himself and gets out his tools and sets to work. The mechanism is tricky and he must place himself in harms way to disarm it, but perseverance wins out and with a click and a strange hiss, the mechanism releases and he is confident he has disabled the trap.

Took the liberty of narrating through to get us caught up.

The second level of the Fair (B9) is stripped of nearly everything metal, leaving what was once a tangle of dank, solitary confinement cages transformed into a tumbled mess of furniture and prisoner odds and ends.

A collection of broken furniture in the corner suggests a struggle, and Selter, Ka and Kūtayak find a splattering of blood on the floor in front of the door in the northwest corner of the room.

This room is not devoid of life as the previous rooms have been. On the far side of the room stands a man dressed in torn beggar’s rags splashed all over with paint. He doesn't notice your approach as he is engrossed in his work painting a large mural on the wall, so you take a moment to observe his artistry. The mural depicts two large snakes carrying a bell into Cassomir’s sewers and portrays in great detail what is clearly your party chasing after the snakes. Several of you recognize this man as the Crazed Painter, the unnamed man who you have met before who professed himself a prophet of Groetus.

Jorag looked about for a moment, but quickly focused his attention on the odd man and his even odder painting. "Well, this is certainly interesting if nothing else." He muttered, not moving any closer to the man. "Any suggestions how to handle him? Should we even handle him at all? Seems to me we ought to get back to the bell before this...prophecy, has a chance to manifest itself."

Snakes? Does anyone with a better grasp on monster lore know what these are?

If you speak to the prophet make a diplomacy check, use knowledge(local) for info on the mural or you can simply search for the way down and proceed if you choose.

Svetlana is more interested in finding a way forward, merely grunting at the loon.


The painter continues with his work on his mural as if he does not notice you at all. Svetlana moves through the room, and opens the only obvious door here in the northeast corner of this room. She finds an open trap door and a ladder that descends into darkness.

The Taldan and Chelaxian faction missions concern the painter, so leaving room to act on those if you choose.

Frindlikh moves up to the painter, and says in his raspy voice:

I have a commission for you. You have been granted the honour to paint a portrait of the grand prince himself. He requires you to paint him in better resemblance than this picture Frindlikhs says, holding up the 'droll picture' he was provided, and make it worthy of a grand prince.

Marco recalls the Aspis Consortium features the form of the snake upon their standard. The style depicted here is a fair match to the symbol as you have seen it rendered.

The painter startles as Frindlikh addresses him, raising his arms defensively. You notice as he does this he has a number of superficial wounds. In a few moments, his attention is drawn to the mural again and he resumes his methodical painting, seemingly unaware of you again.

Painter is technically considered unfriendly even though he is not a threat. He must be made at least indifferent before he becomes semi-lucid and helpful.

If you proceed down:

Your business concluded with the painter, your party descends the ladder into the dark, dank sewers below the Swift. Refuse rushes by in a stream of garbage carried swiftly through the sewer proper. A five-foot-wide dry ledge sits a foot above the refuse and provides a walkway on both sides of the sewer. On the far wall, a massive iron door blocks passage beyond. An image carved into the door is of a dispassionate figure holding a gibbous moon.

You see no nearby crossings, only some rock fall that lay like irregular stepping stones.

PCs can make DC 15 Acrobatics checks to balance across the rock fall to reach the other side — failure means a plunge into the fetid sewer water (which is 5 feet deep) and the risk of exposure to Cassomir’s brand of filth fever, so you can go ahead with a fort save if you fall in. PCs may also attempt to jump the sewer, but there is no way to get a running start considering the angle.

Frindlikh balances across the rock fall with ease. Careful 'bout that surface. he rasps it's a slippery as those boards in front of that dockside Cassomir warehouse.

Looking at the rocks with mistrust, Jorag backed a bit away from the edge. "Ahem, I may have a spring in my stride despite my age, but I dont suppose we could set up a rope to hold on to?" He asked, looking at the water again. "Even if its just two of you holding it from either side, I would feel alot better going across."

Taking 10 would be reasonable here and a secured rope would offer a +2 bonus and make it possible for those holding the rope to aid another.

Frind quickly investigates the great door before turning his back on it to help the others cross. There is no light here beyond what your party have with them. The iron door looks well built and when tested, is found to be firmly locked as well.

Marco provides a rope for a pair of hardier Pathfinders to secure. He casts a spell upon himself, and then uses the aid of the rope to try to traverse the disgusting stream.

As his foot slips, he suddenly misses the comfort of the Cataloguing Department in Absalom. He closes his mouth tight as he lands in the filth. With a shudder, he wades to the other side and pulls himself up.

He stands still for a while, dripping muck, and then he girds himself for the next step. He brusquely blows out, trying to clear his lips of any drops of sewage. He quickly calls out, "Dolum minor!" with a flick of his hand, and then begins waving his hand over himself, starting with his face. As he does, the filth disappears as though it was never there. He cleans his whole body with his spell, and repeats it for good measure. With one last shudder, he looks to the rest of the party, to see if anyone else has need for magical cleansing.

Despite the aid of the rope, both Li and Svetlana find the footing too unstable and follow Marco into the fetid waters of the sewer. (Li contracts Filth Fever, but it will not onset for 2 days)

Frindlikh's first attempt at picking the lock fails to do the job, but a second attempt does the trick. You hear a soft groan beyond the door in response to the scrapes and clicks of his picks.

Narrow room ahead, need a declaration of who will open and enter the room ahead first, feel free to make a perception check as you do so.

Frindlikhs isn't too keen to move headfirst into another corridor fight. He'll subtlety tarry, and allow the hard-hitters to move in first.

Jorag steps up to open the door and finds himself looking through a narrow entryway and another doorway ahead. He steps up, peering into the narrow room. You hear a soft groan in the chamber beyond and a foul stench hangs in the air. A purple radiance washes over this cold chamber from a variety of lichens and fungi that grow on the walls and ceiling creating an otherworldly sheen. Straw-filled cages line the north and south walls. In the room’s center, a strange pedestal, carved in the likeness of dozens of grasping tentacles, sits fixed into the stone floor.

Jorag notices the prone forms of six men sealed in the cells and starts to step into the room to determine if they yet live. But he notices a furtive movement ahead and pauses, coughing as he is met with a foul aura of the stench of death and decay.

The source of the foul stench immediately becomes clear as a pallid creature steps out of the gloom, snapping ravenously with a maw of long vicious teeth and menacing with terrible claws.

Hearing Svetlanas call behind him, Jorag stepped away from the horror in front of him, then dropped flat on the floor. Rolling onto his back, he tracked her footsteps to avoid her heavy boots, calling out to her with a booming voice.

"Go with the blessing of Kurgess, let nothing stand in your way, least of all me." Turning towards Li, he called again. "Li, let fly your arrows, Kurgess watches you with favor."

5 foot step back, then drop prone and cast Agile Feet on Svetlana so she can charge over Jorag. Bit of Luck on Li.

Jorag steps back and the creature seems to shrink back from following into the more open spaces and retreats back to it's original hiding place.

Marco braces his longspear and creeps to the edge of the entrance of the familiar-looking chamber.

He fights off a bit of nausea as he gets closer to the creature, but he still manages to thrust his spear at it, in an unsuccessful attempt to distract it as Svetlana squares up to it.

Could you move to your positions on the map in the future, or at least declare them as Li did, I'm a little unsure of positioning based on the descriptions. I believe everyone has used reach weapons thus far and not closed into the creature's range?

Jorag bestows Kurgess favor on the archer and Li's arrow strikes home, though not with the full force of it's promise. Frindlikh waits for the creature to move within range, but it refuses to come out into the open. Marco moves into the stench to aid Svetlana, but he does little good. Svetlana marches up and swings hard, but the creature is too wily for the strike.

It steps into the doorway, closing on Svetlana and snapping and slashing with tooth and claw, but the tiefling's armor holds against the assault and she stands unscathed.

Marco didn't fail his saving throw, did he? He rolled the same as Svetlana.

Marco drops his longspear and pulls out a scroll. He reads the words from it and touches Svetlana on the shoulder, bolstering her defense against evil creatures.

Protection from evil on Svetlana. +2 deflection bonus and +2 resistance bonus to saves vs evil creatures for 1 minute.
