If you want to use the ladder from the robe, you can move your icon on the map to where you plan to climb the fence.
GM Zoomba |
Assuming you climb over at that point, for both plot and moving-along reasons...
After the typical extended goblin debate, Chuffy's caution wins out, and he places a ladder up to the north of the open gate. He and the other three goblins manage to climb over with little difficlty, and hop down with a splash into the muddy ground around the boat.
As the four Licktoads steady themselves, a horrible old horse lopes around from the other side of the ship. It's filthy, with mud caked all about it's dark-grey hair. You'd heard Vorka ate other goblins and kept dogs, but horses too? Those terrifying and awful things? She's gone too far!

With Reta's arrow sticking out painfully from it's hide, the horse gives out a fearsome whinny as it moves to meet you as the rest of the goblins run towards it.

It lashes out at the nearby Chuffy with its two front hooves, with improbable grace for such a creature. The goblin dodges the first hoof only to get smacked right in the face by the second.

Wow, when it rains it pours.
Poog shuffles over to distract the awful monstrosity while it is shot, stabbed, and dissolved by his companions. Looking hurt and tired, it whirls to and fro in frustration, striking at Poog with one hoof and Chuffy with the other.

Though it took him a while to get in the right position, Poog's first slice proves devastating to the raging horse. It lets out one last neigh before collapsing, bleeding, onto the ground.
COMBAT OVER
From her position next to the gangplank, Reta can see that the ramp up is vine-choked gangplank with a handrail covered in moss. One of the rails seems to be encrusted with a large ball of dried mud.
Reta Bigbad and Spotol |
Reta, less interested in avoiding traps and more interested in playing with her spider climb abilities, simply scales up the side. Halfway up, she turns with a big grin on her face.
"Hey, I gotsa potion what doez same thing, if'n one of youse wantz to trade itz with me?"
GM Zoomba |
Poog gets a few strips of horse meat from the fallen beast. Even the non-acid burnt parts don't looks especially appetizing - the horse wasn't exactly at full health - but it should make for some good eating when properly cooked.
Chuffy takes a hard look at the gangplank in his paranoia. It pays off however as he sees that some of the vines are set unnaturally taut and tied to the ball of mud. It's a tripwire! Not a really big one though: now that you've noticed it you could easily just step over those vines.
Scampering along the rotting wooden planks lining the boat with the help of her ring, Reta peeks over the side to see that the first deck is dominated by a single large structure. There's a ladder in the back leading up to an upper deck, and from there yet another ladder going to the small chamber with a smoking chimney high up above.
I've added two new slides One shows a view of the ship from the side to help get a sense of the geography. These maps are a bit odd - technically the first floor of the ship would be on the 'main deck' map on the other new slide, while the ladder up to the next level would get you to point '3' on the main map you've been seeing.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the map or your placements.
GM Zoomba |
Moving carefully up the gangplank (while Reta continues to have fun climbing up the sides) the Licktoads see the main deck of the shipwreck is cluttered with objects both natural and artificial. Knick-knacks and nuts are buried underneath thick swaths of leafy vines. Wherever vines aren't growing, algae and moss are.
The wide roof of the central cabin before you provides a canopied walkway going along each side.
GM Zoomba |
Craning their over-large ears to focus on the noises above, Poog and Mogmurch hear a faint growling and possibly a bark from the roof overhead.
GM Zoomba |
You four move further down the old boat. At the ship's rear a flight of steps leads up to the roof of the ship's main cabin. There's alos a door to the cabin itself: a door decorated by a large number of rodent and bird skulls.
GM Zoomba |
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Chuffy moves in front of the door and squints carefully at the handle and the decorations. He sees a few pretty cool-looking skulls hung up, but doesn't spot any trap.
As Reta and Chuffy hiss at each other by the door, a scruffy looking mongrel with a crooked tail moves over to the edge of the roof above. you can see a rusty chain dangling behind him as he snarls down at you.

Reta's anti-dog rage is too much to be restrained, and she rushes up the ladder to strike at the dog.

We'll be mostly using the larger Slide 1 for the map here (for the upper level and the rear of the ship). Slide 2 is still the lower level. Have I mentioned I hate this maps yet?
