Yes, used to late night reading sessions, shrugs. "Alright, let's fund a place to sleep and come back here tomorrow! "

Exiting the liabrary, you find the streets a bit more sparse than before. You all begin to look for something of an inn. Vitrius is careful not to touch strangers carelessly as you work your way through the crowd, still a bit new to how his power works. And Kick-Lick, who's smaller frame was much smaller than most citizens of Ravnica, gets an itch to fly once more and taste the freedom of the sky. A firm hand from Tes or Kala keeps him firmly on the ground.
Phaerlin points to a sign he suspects may be an inn, but then you all begin to realize that your wandering has gotten you in stranger sector.
Ravnica Guild: 1d100 ⇒ 52
The roads become green with grass and weeds, and the buildings are becoming more old and twisted. There is definite smell in the air, one of nature but also of decay. The place Phaerlin finds is indeed an inn, though to enter is another question. The people around you move slower than the bustle of the common sectors, an almost trudging pace. Not bothering to take notice of your presence.
A thin man approaches you, his long coat dragging on the floor and bald head looking that it could cave in with the slightest touch. His voice is wet, and dragging as much as his coat.
"Ahhhhh. You musssst be my connnntacts. Doooo you have the merchaaaaandise?"
Vitrius Girsen |
Vitrius feels his stomach turn. He senses the life in the area, but it stinks of blood left out to rot for days. It was unpleasant to say the least. Though he would rather have stayed at the library and studied into the morning, he felt obligated to stay with his companions.
This strange new area he didn't recognize on the maps he found, but he was willing to learn about it. He was also going to make sure he found a pair of gloves, so he didn't read every mind he brushed into...
"That depends on who's asking, friend. Do you have the payment?"
BS, I mean Charisma...: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The man tuts at you, wagging his finger back and forth.
"Ah ah ah...First, I need to examine the product."
Before you realize what's going on, he has grabbed Tes firmly at the wrist and begins giving what essentially boils down to a rudimentary physical examination. Testing the strength of her muscles as she tries to pull away, the smoothness of her skin, and even has time to pull out a measured cord to compare against her frame.
"Yes....yes....she'll do nicely."
He produces a sack that seems to be wet and dripping with something. and tosses it before Vitrius's feet.
"Payment as promised."
Kala En |
Kala snarls when her packmate is grabbed. She lowers her center of gravity in preparation to pounce, but waits for Tes to indicate if this should go to violence or not.
"This is not the bargain we've made." She hisses at the disgusting man. "Go find your contacts elsewhere."
Vitrius Girsen |
Something stirred in Vitrius when he saw this foul creature put his hands on Tes. Fear? Anger? Something else? Whatever it was, Kala's reaction only served to fuel it. His hand shot out to grab its wrists and bend into an upward angle along with his elbow to lock it in place.
"She is not for sale." His gritted teeth through which he spoke served to emphasize his statement. Vitrius realized, probably too late, what might happen if he touched this creature, but by now the feral nature of his race had all but taken over. Especially with the smell of blood in the bag at his feet. Calm yourself. At least I'm not ripping its throat out. Yet.

Tes yanks her arm back when her allies come to her defense.
"Certainly, I am not for sale. Though perhaps a bit flattered that I have value. Tell, what is it exactly you want to purchase me for?"
She considers attacking the creature but her curiosity has the better of her.

If the man is surprised by the iron grip on his arm, the sword at his throat, or the merfolk ready to tear his face off, he doesn't show it.
"Then I take it, you arrrrre not my connnnntact." he says in a hushed voice.
He takes a minute to look Tes up and down once more.
"Noooo, matter. How much dooooo you wannnnnnt for her? I have neeeed of stronnnng bodies. Powerful limmmmbs. Broooooad frammmmes."

Kala is thrown off balance by how calm both Tes and the stranger are.
How can he be so confident when he is outnumbered like this? Are his own allies nearby?

The man sighs and turns his head at an unnatural angle to look at Vitrius.
"Connnntrol yoooour merchandise beeeetter."
He looks at you Tes, as if an adult pitying a child.
"Yessss, yesss." he hisses, sliding the back of one hand against your face. You can tell there is admiration in his eyes, but an unsettling feeling inside the pit of your stomach tells you its for all the wrong reasons.
You almost missed it, but you're definitely sure that the vines that make up some of the overgrowth have been slithering around you and your group for the past few minutes since you stopped.
"Ulrot issss to finnnnnd bodies to work rot fields. Wooooork while alive. Woooork while dead."

A few things happen at once. Kick-Lick slinks away and aims an arrow at Ulrot. It connects, piercing the man's neck. Yet, he does not gurgle, he does not fall. He slowly begins to chuckle as thick vines that only Tes noticed suddenly move with lightning quick speed.
Kick-Lick is able to jump off the grasping vine, Tes was able to get out of the way before it moved, and Phaerlin quickly brings the blade down from the Ulrot's neck to cut away the vines before they work their way up his body.
Unfortunately, Kala and Vitrius were too distracted and end up being completely ensnared. They are dragged off as quickly as they are ensnared.
But in opposite directions! One down the street, the other going up! By the time you all get your bearings they're already 30 ft away from Ulrot and those who jumped out of the way of the vines!
Feel free to post actions of what'd you like to do. But there is a specific amount of time before each person is dragged away and lost to you completely.

Hm, I'd considered my above Perception check as counting for the vines, since Kala dialed back her aggression to look around. I should've made a post specifying that though.
My understanding is that I can still Wildshape, it doesn't seem to require any somatic/verbal or such.
"Wha-" As Kala is dragged off by the vines, there's a flash of green mana and suddenly a large brown furred paw smashes into the ground, clawing against the pull. "-RAUGH"
Some might recognize this as the Totem Armor magic of Zendikar, and Kala has called upon one of the biggest creatures she's seen in Murasa: The Brown Bear (quintupling her weight from 120lb to 600lb).
AC 11, HP 34/34

I wondered about that too, but since you mentioned looking up at rooftops, I decided that you weren't specifically looking at the greenery on the grounds. I did roll one for you without disadvantage though. Didn't clear the save, but we'll work on communication.
The vines grasping at Kala immediately strain under the increased weight her totem armor gives her. Her pulling stops, but vines start streaming down from nearby buildings, snaking across the ground, crawling across dead trees, but each begins to snake around you and your new form. You aren't being dragged away anymore, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to move.
Kick-Lick |
Kick-lick leaps off the building, his wings now getting tired. He aims again, and fires another shot off at Ulrot. "Go away stoopid plant person!" He yells manically as he shoots.
Assuming it hasn't been an hour, so wings are still an option. Flying off the building, cunning action to dash and fly 30 feet away from any possible vines.

Kick-Lick's arrow hits Ulrot once more, but still he merely chuckles as the projectile slowly oozes out. He does manage to get clear of any vines, though none lunge for him.
Tes Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 9 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Both Phaerlin and Tes attacks bounce off the thick vines, unable to break their sinews.
Vitrius sturggles against the vines, trying to shrug them off, but the more he rips from his limbs, the more vines wrap tighter around him.
It was only for a moment, but Vitrius can feel the ground leave him as the vines start to pull him down an open sewer. As the smell of rot hits him he can see the bright light of day from the tiny hole of the street.
More vines lash against Kala making her more of a cocoon than bear. Ulrot begins to slip away through a backroad.
Kick-Lick |
Kick-lick gives up the futile attack, and instead flies down, attempting to cut the vine off Vitrius with his daggers.

Is Phaerlin using the Trusty Machete or does Vitrius have it? If ever there was a time...
As more vines lash around Kala's new form, she does her best to hang on to the ground. Meanwhile her mind is racing for a solution.
What if I took a smaller form? Could I slip between the vines to freedom?
Is that a good idea?: 1d20 ⇒ 4 (If Int check, -1, if Wis check +3)
Phaerlin Amoxin |
I'm using my longsword. Assuming I can target the vines as separate creatures, I will do the following:
Phaerlin will change tactics in his battle with the vines and will move far enough ahead so that she will not be effected and then summon spectral arms from the ground which lash at the vines.
Damage Roll: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
If not, I will do the following:
Phaerlin will sheathe his blade and draw upon the power of his pact to blast the toughest looking vine.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage Roll: 1d10 ⇒ 2
Vitrius Girsen |
An idea strikes Vitrius as he falls down the shaft, or maybe he just hit his head. Grabbing one of the vines, he doesn't struggle with his body, instead, he sends his mind into the vine, attempting to somehow touch the mind of the one controlling them.

Vines aren't really able to be sneak attacked....at least I don't think they are.
Kick-Lick goes into a nose-dive, mimicking the actions of the huge vulture-like birds that carried off many of his brothers as they hunted in the mountains. Its close, but he whips through the manhole. His blows are glancing, but he can see Vitrius's eyes, not panicked, but working at a hundred miles an hour.
Vitrius clasps the vines and attempts to force his thoughts through to their controller. However, these vines do not possess an intelligence of their own and the one who controls them is not physically connected to them. He is pulled further in, now sloshing against the murky water.
You still expend a Read Thoughts for the failed attempt
Tes smashes against her section of vines, and they begin to fray, their pull and push has much less oomph.
Kala wonders who has the machete, thinking it would be damn useful right about now. She looks at her current situation, her totem armor giving her room to breathe, but when it shatters...
The vines are whipping around furiously, and a smaller form would probably not be able to squeeze out and would be crushed instead. No other thoughts enter your mind as you wrestle with your current predicament.
When using an ability, please say what ability you're using
Vitrius focuses his energy, summoning the dark hunger from within him and brings it to manifestation. Two large shadowy arms burst from the ground and grab the vines. You watch as the dark green vines begin to thin, grow brown, and start to strain.
There is a mighty snap!
Kala's now large green ball of vines breaks free of the vines pulling it. It rolls for a bit before coming to a rest against a building, possibly breaking it if it weren't for the fact that the building was also a large tree.
Kick-Lick |
Kick-lick grabs onto the vine near Vitrius, and begins sawing at them, while attempting to cling on. He wings flutter as he attempts to keep hold. "We get you out!" He yells. Also, in a flash of inspiration, he sets a hunting trap directly below the vines.
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Vines have to make DC 13 dex check or be caught and take 1d4 damage. Kick-lick gets sneak attack because Vitrius is near.
Vitrius Girsen |
Letting loose a primal growl, Vitrius stares at the dead vines around him. A fierce determination grew fast in him and all he saw was that creature. Red began to cloud his vision, his mind barely clinging to rational thought as he looked for a way up out of this watery mess.

Whoops, that paragraph which mentions Vitrius focusing on dark energy was actually supposed to be Phaerlin. My bad, I swear I don't think all vampires look the same. Also, updates are probably coming tomorrow, tonight at the earliest if I can manage it.
DM Default |
Kick-Lick, I'm pretty sure this is the case but I'm ruling you can't sneak attack an animated object. As Vitrius is currently entangled with the vines, he isn't exactly threatening them as a whole.
Vitrius, faltering and falling to his baser instincts, struggles and strains to see out of his predicament. But he is being half dragged in soiled mess and it proves too much for him.
And suddenly!
Kick-Lick finds a point int he vines carrying Vitrius where they are at the thinnest. Two clean slices and Vitrius, still restrained, skips across the sewer bottom and slides to a rest. The rest of the vines retreat further.
Kala, in her impressive totem armor, uses her animalistic strength, to strain against the vines until they break apart with a mighty SNAP!. She sees Phaerlin there, sword drawn and mystic energy on his hands. Further down you see Tes, peering down a manhole as if estimating whether she should jump in or climb down.
Tes, you could climb down if you wanted, but it'd take a while, and jumping would be faster, but you could hurt yourself or slip
Tes you do hear the sound of a goblin's scream of success followed by what could be a very large skipping stone coming to a rest.
Though seperated, it seems that the danger has passed as Ulrot made his escape. Though you guys are still seperated, it doesn't take much time to rejoin.
Kick-Lick |
Kick-lick saws away at the vines, attempting to free Vitrius. "Stoopid vampire." He scolds, "You not supposed to bounce on rock! Vampire not bouncy! Rock bounce, you don't. Got it?"
Tes il-Stone |
Tes calls down to Kick-Lick "Well done my friend!"
Once the allies are gathered together again, "I think it is time to head to a part of town which is less dangerous to find lodgings. Such an odd place. As if differing worlds were all smashed together to form a strange and dangerous city. Like something out of a dream really".
Vitrius Girsen |
Vitrius narrows his eyes at Kick-lick, but realizes it is in jest, despite the situation. A not-altogether-unfriendly smile comes to his face. "Yes, let us not allow that to happen again." His words were more to himself than to the goblin.
Standing up, he attempted to brush off what detritus he could. Once he reestablished contact with the rest of his companions, he nodded at Tes' observation. "Indeed. Each with very defined borders and regulations and...", he pauses, looking at her. "Tastes."
"I have a feeling we will see that foul being again," the vampire continues. "Right now, we do need to gather our thoughts and determine where to go next and if we can even get back home from here."

You can give me a survival check to get out of this part of the city, but no using the scope as that only helps in wilderness. One person please.

Kala lumbers over in bear form, snuffling around. She takes a little time to make sure no other sudden attacks occur. The bear rears up onto its hind legs, then suddenly Kala is back in her blue skin.
"You have no idea how foul this part of the city smells." She wrinkles her nose. "We should've just taken an inn near the library."

Kala senses are as sharp as ever, or maybe that's just the pungent odor of the street she's leading you out of as she eventually navigates back into a more "normal" section of town. This does bring up a question as, other than the grove you appeared in, you haven't seen any kind of exit to town.
Still, with weary heads you head up to what you pray is an inn, and luckily find that it is.
"How many?" the bored young woman asks from behind the small wooden counter. Its a bit cramped and it seems this building is much more tall than it is wide, only having two small rooms per floor. Behind the woman is a rack of dulled hooks where room keys are held. By the looks of it, most of them are gone.
DM Default |
The young woman sighs, and grabs two keys from the panel behind her. Each is attached to a flat, short wood stick.
She tosses the keys onto the counter.
"5 gold for each room." she states as she goes back to lounging. She picks up where she left off in what seems to be a small book.
Vitrius Girsen |
For that much I can own those rooms for a month back.. sigh..
Vitrius nods and reaches into his pouch to pull out 5 golden coins. "I will pay for half." As he replaces the rest of his coins, his hand hits the handle of the machete they were given. A thought dawns on him, but he stifles it. He steps back and looks at the floor and then loses himself in thought.
