She then turns back to the spicedealer, "Sorry, that price is far too steep. How about a free sample or two so we can test it?"

The spice seller thinks to himself, one thin finger stroking the side of his face. A smile stretches across his face.
"Of course...of course."
The spice seller opens his hand and undoes the paper fold revealing the small amount of pure white powder inside.
"Please, go ahead and try for yourself." he says, indicating you to take some in your hand.
"Excellent."
The not-you shifts into a man cloaked in bandages and stray fabric. His true face is obscure, and you can see nothing other than his shining golden eyes. He carries himself with confidence, and moves with purpose.
"Come, we have much to discuss."
As he leads you out the backroom, you find that as you enter the main room, all the patrons, down to the children, are busy removing the disguises they had donned. The children were a mix of actual children and goblins, the jovial men, have removed the gratuitous amounts of stuffing and red paint from their cheeks, and even the older man has undone most of her bindings revealing an ample bust hiding behind her attire.
Stepping outside the "building," you find that the entire structure was actually underground, in what appears to be a small bunker of sorts.
"Come along!" he calls out, and as he moves you see some of the "actors" look in reverence, some in jealousy, and others having enough sense not to let their emotions show on their face.
[Scene end. Will continue next update, though you can post your thoughts.]

Tes shakes her head, "No a free sample I take with me, use elsewhere and then come back hooked. Don't you know how this whole thing works? Oh forget the whole idea".
Tes leads Kala by the hand and motions to Kick to come along.

Dawncaller |
Shaking his head at himself, Dawncaller will say to the group "Dawncaller is fine. It's the only name I've ever known."
With that he will turn and lead the foreigners back to the Arena, and then hail a guard there that he recognizes and say "You have a minute?"
DM Default |
The guard chuckles as he sees you approach.
"So quick to return Dawncaller? Miss the life already?" he jabs. But he takes a minute to look around the not so packed area, and nods. You can see that he's friendly towards you, most likely because of your status.
You find yourself back above, in the world of Ravnica. You have been given a modest set of tools and supplies and were told of your mission.
"Find the goblin Zapley. She has a small Green Cube in her lab. Return with it and you will have what you seek."
You've spent the last few days following leads and such, but as the guildmaster has given you no advice on how to tackle the matter, you're largely on your own.
You think you have the approximate location of the lab. You're almost sure Zapley is inside and from your intel you know she's from the Izzet guild and probably a volitile and dangerous combatant.
What would you like to do? Wait till night? Approach directly? 3rd option?
Dawncaller |
"Not quite yet, but I was hoping that you might be able to answer a question for me. This lot" Dawncaller jerks his thumb at the foreigners he just saved from addiction and death "were friends with those two vampires that showed up the other day. I heard the one that survived got sold to one of the guilds, but I don't know which one. you wouldn't happen to know would you? and if not, could you find out?"

The guard frowns.
"All due respect Dawncaller, I'm just a guard. I don't even talk to Razda, let alone know her dealings. Why don't you ask her? By the way, great graduation fight, was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The way you beheaded that bastard...."
He whistles, and motions with his finger of some object going flying.
You have two options:
1. Monitor the lab.
2. Monitor Zapley.
Also may be slowing you down just a tad.
Tes il-Stone |
Dawncaller |
Grrr, it ate my post from this morning!
"Thanks. I wasn't sure I would be okay when it starting shouting at me. Glad things worked out though."
"As far as Razda goes, I didn't think that she would have time for me. Could you check and see if she might be willing to squeeze us into her busy schedule?"
As the guard goes to check, Dawncaller will turn to the others and say "If we get a chance to speak to Razda, even if you dislike slaves or people that own them, speak to her with respect. She has both kinds of power, and crossing her would be a bad idea; there's a persistant rumor that she runs one of the guilds, but I'm not sure which one. At any rate, she is connected and has personal power as well. Be respectful and everything will be okay."
"Also," Dawncaller will add, "Make sure that any agreement you make with her includes you making any payment arrangements up front. Leave nothing open-ended."
Tes il-Stone |
Dawncaller |
"Like I said, you seemed like you needed it. Plus, it really doesn't cost me anything except a bit of my time. I also don't like anything that dulls your senses; in my experience, it's always more trouble than it's worth." Thinking for a second, Dawncaller will add "What part of the city you folks from, anyway? and how'd you come to be friends with a vampire?"
Kick-Lick |
Dawncaller |
Dawncaller looks confused and says "I've never heard of a district of the city called Zendikar, although from the sounds of things, it's probably controlled by the Golgari swarm. Are you part of their military?"
DM Default |
The guard nods and says he'll see about setting something up.
A couple hours later, you find out that Razda is particularly bored and does not mind seeing Dawncaller.
However, the guard stipulates, if the conversation isn't as exciting as she hoped she might put him in chains again.
That may have been a joke....maybe not....
If you decide to go and see her...
Razda smiles, and greets you as she lounges in her room. She is a breathtaking beauty but the air about her reminds you of a caged lion, trapped by position but should prey come strolling into her cage, who was she to turn her new playthings away?
The room is opulent and screams wealth and desire. There are gold trimmings on furniture, shapely statues and buttresses, jewels that sparkle like the brightest oceans blue hanging off the chandelier high above.
"How can you help me?" she asks, a coy smile on her face.
Night has fallen, and the lab remains non-exciting. Zapley has returned, seeming to prove this is also her place of residence. However, the lights of the building never go out so its hard to gauge if she's sleeping or its always like this...
Tes il-Stone |
Then she clams up.

With Razda
Tes smiles, "We can help you by removing some extra bodies you no longer need I mean it's really crowded around here, one less mouth to feed. Or at least one in particular..." She does not give the name, not yet.
Dawncaller |
"I am truly sorry to bother you Lady. I did not imagine that I would get the chance to speak to you. I know you are busy, so I will get to the point, as we both know I am a man who does not like to mince words. These folks here are looking for a friend of theirs, who was a slave here recently. I have heard that you sold him to one of the guilds, but could not find out which one, so I hoped that you could possibly be willing to part with that information. That being said, I'm just helping them out, mostly because I'm curious to see where this leads. I'll let them negotiate a deal with you, because you know I'm not all that good with words."
With that, Dawncaller will gesture towards the others.

So this is really more of an information request than anything else you see."
DM Default |
What is this wayfinder thing I keep seeing?
Razda doesn't seem the least bit surprised that some of her business dealings have spread as rumors.
"Dearest Dawncaller, I'm curious to know why a fine specimen of a man such as yourself would make helping these strangers your first act now that you've been freed?"
She steps forward, taking a closer looks at the goblin, merfolk, and kor.
"Hmm....you seem like you'd be good showing." she says, studying Tes's features. [b]"How about it? Want a round in the Arena?"
You leave your vantage point and slowly make your way to the building to slowly inspect the best access point. You're very quiet and stealthy, and yet....
CRASH!
The sound of broken glass shatters in the air and you hear the devious laughter of children as they run away after breaking Zapley's window.
An alarm inside begins to sound...
Tes il-Stone |
Is she human or some sort of demon half breed?
Tes shrugs, "If entertainment is currency then perhaps a round in this Arena of yours is what it will take to obtain the information we seek?
Still, is there not something that is outside of this place, a service that we could perform that would be better suited for such a simple question as the one we seek the answer to?
I am sure you have "interesting acts" here all the time. How often do you have people willing to perform services "outside" of these confines, especially from beings who are in no way connected to you..."

Razda ponders the statements given to her by both Dawncaller and Tes.
"I suppose not much will top Dawncaller's performance for a while. Better to ride out the excitement naturally than try and create another spectacle. A favor then....."
She thinks to herself as she saunters back to her sitting area.
"Yes....a favor....alright. There is a young elf part of the Gruul clan that I wish to join my arena. Convince her to take part in a match, whether by debt, favor, or chains, and we will call our debt settled. Your "remnants" were sent to the Dimir who were oddly interested in him. Then again, the Dimir are odd about most things."
"The Elf's name is Lyrae, and she'll be doing gods know what in the their territory. Good luck."
She says that last bit offhandedly, but with some finality that says "we're done here."
Whatever they threw, it is now inside the building.
You can hear some angry snarling from inside, some goblin-speak as someone is awake inside and pressing buttons and pulling levers.

You all leave, and after a bit of walking find yourselves back outside the arena. It's getting dark, and you estimate by the time you make it back Zapley's, it would definitely be night.
And from all your experiences, night in Zendikar is not a great thing. There's also something eerie in the air. Something doesn't feel quite right...
From here your can continue your search or return back to Zapley's place.
You hear some mutterings and cursing in goblin that at least sounds like cursing.
"Wha! Dum Dum Kid!."
[ooc]Doesn't look like you're getting an invite in or anything.
Dawncaller |
"Well, I hope that helped. You folks take care, and make sure to keep your promise to Razda, or she'll kill you if you're lucky. I need to find a place to stay for the night."
With that, Dawncaller turns to leave.
Vitrius Girsen |
If can see:
"Aren't you Zapley the Great, purveyor of fine magical accoutrements and artefacts? I know this isn't the best time, but I've always wanted to meet you..."
If not:
While the goblin is distracted by the what the children did, he slips inside and waits for him to leave before looking around.

Tes, Kick-Lick, Dawncaller, and Kala introduce themselves to each other and make their way back to Zapley's place. The streets are pitch black and you hear the sound a broken glass in the distance. As you near the area, you see a figure staying close to the shadows, trying to stay out of sight, but looks like they're definitely up to no good...
You currently can't see Zapley, and *she is still in her house, activating some contraption of hers or something.
As you stay to the shadows and contemplate your next move (I'm assuming you don't want to try and slip in while she's in the main room you're moving into), you see a group of people moving towards you in the night. From what you've noticed so far, that is not normal behavior.
Tes il-Stone |
DM Default |
You hear one of the group threaten, "You probably shouldn't go sneaking around in shadows. Someone might think you're a thief"
He then draws his sword.

The figure seems to go on the defensive, ready to go to combat.
The folks who noticed don't make any movements, possibly contemplating on what to do next.
Dawncaller |
"Now, friend, that would be a silly thing to so. We clearly outnumber you, and you have nothing to gain by trying to kill us, especially when being polite doesn't cost you anything." Dawncaller chuckles and adds "I'll even go first. My name is Dawncaller, and I recently won my freedon from the arena by defeating 100 consecutive battles." Dawncaller pauses to let that settle in then finishes with a simple "And you are?"
Tes il-Stone |
She holds back on a spell though as the shadowy figure has yet to take an overtly aggressive action.
