Erodin,
Thank you for tackling the loot sheet.

Pinto,
The wording from the CRB is Wielding a Weapon Two-Handed: When you deal damage with a weapon that you are wielding two-handed, you add 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus (Strength penalties are not multiplied). You don't get this higher Strength bonus, however, when using a light weapon with two hands.

When I saw your post about 2-handing a handaxe, I thought something might be off but I passed it off for later since it wasn't game-breaking. Now we know that hunch was correct. You cannot get the 1.5x strength bonus with any light weapon. Simple/martial are not the factors that matter, I suppose.

Eina,
RE: fractional bonuses - I assume you're referring to the Saving Throw and BAB bonuses right? I'm totally okay with using this rule for multiclass characters.

I can't find any reference to an electrokinetic, so I don't know what that is, unless you're referring to the Kineticist class. As long as its not unvetted 3rd party material I'm probably okay with it.

In fact I'll throw it out there that we now have a full party of six and if anyone wants to redo/rebuild their characters, now would be a good time. Feat swaps, spell swaps, even a class change I'm probably okay with. I want everyone to have fun in their PC's skin.

Yep, Carith and Taecuss both claimed the potion of CMW but there is only one available. One of you will need to choose something else from the box.

Fair enough; I'll get a spear if available so I can use it 2H before I get brawler's fury or when it's not a good idea to 'touch' an opponent.

Guys: this is my first brawler so I'd like some advice. Once I get brawler's fury, what is the best choice of weapon(s) to use (other than unarmed strike)?

From an optimization perspective, I kind of like having a longspear in hand and then kicking enemies in the face, but that might not be what you had in mind. Otherwise, cestus for the crit range and combination of bludgeoning and piercing damage. There are crazier things that involve eastern weapons or fighting with bayonets.

At the risk of being boring, I'll point you to this Brawler Equipment Guide. It's part of a bigger Brawler Guide.

Accounting Post:

Okay folks, the loot table has been updated. You'll see there are now two sheets, one with the stuff I just sold from our first battle (always convenient to fight in a village), and another with the loot we still have in hand (which happens to be a bunch of monster heads).

This is where I ask everyone to please add the following to their sheets, if they haven't already:

Everyone: +33.83 gp. (Erodin keeps an extra .02 gp!) Erodin screwed up a little so he's going to take a tiny hit to pay everyone what he promised.
Taecuss: Spyglass
Pinto: Morningstar

I'm not tracking the potion or other item you got from Cortland, or those Veritas badges (that come with a +1 resistance bonus to saves) I forgot about until now, so please make sure you add those too. May there be many more loot distributions to come!

Yeah... but not too crazy. I have an idea for this guy being a down-to-earth fighter so I think I will keep the morningstar to use when I can't touch my opponent and then eventually flurry with unarmed attacks or a punching dagger.

Thanks.

Anyone else stoked about tonight's Game of Thrones season finale? Can't wait!

---------------

Awesome RP from everyone. I'm really enjoying the banter which confirms that I made good choices in the recruitment.

Carith, are you new to PbP? I remember we had chatted because your Paizo profile has a small post history but I can't remember if you told me that you're actually new to PbP in general. If you are, I want to commend you on your energy and writing. Well done! Any GM would be happy to have you in their game.

That same sentiment pretty much goes for everyone else here as well. I just felt compelled to pat Carith on the back because he is/might be new.

---------------

I do my best to throw out some neat loot for the party and I hope that it ends up being enough for everyone to feel like they've got "good stuff". Instead of droning on incoherently, here are some bullet points with some opinions and some general philosophy about magic items and character wealth/level:

  • I'm never been a fan of 'Ye Olde Magic Shoppe' being a core assumption. From playing other editions of D&D and such I feel that less availability leads to more anticipation of magic items, making them more fun. In typical Pathfinder it's a foregone conclusion that by level 5 you're already a Christmas tree covered in dangling magic item ornaments, and that ruins the potential fun of them when they're more rare.
  • I don't strictly adhere to the wealth/level guidelines. I use them as guidelines, nothing more.
  • I wouldn't want anyone to turn away a neat item (for example Taecuss' spyglass) for fear that it would impact their wealth/level expectations. Certain magic items/expensive non-magic items are more party-oriented than PC oriented, and as such I don't calculate their value in when I'm gauging how much good stuff a PC has. Examples would be wands of cure wounds, bless, or the mentioned spyglass.
  • I acknowledge a certain amount of magic items are assumed, and that the monsters' stats also have that assumption baked into them. I remedy this in a number of ways. For this game I'm considering adopting the Unchained Automatic Bonus Progression, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
  • For much (most?) of this game you'll be far away from city life and you'll have to place orders for item purchases not available at the keep. This can include some magic items, with a chance that said magic item may or may not be available.
  • I don't rigidly stick to the paradigm set out by Pathfinder about certain items expected to provide certain bonuses. For example - don't worry that your brooch slot is already taken; you can possibly find a dagger +2, +2 Con, +1 Nat Armor (the point being that brooches are commonly used for Nat Armor bonuses)
  • A 'wish list' can be helpful to me when I'm selecting loot. If everyone would please add a small blurb on their character sheet (or even on the group loot sheet somewhere, if there's room) with a short wish list of what magic shinies you would love to encounter.

  • I can't wait to see what happens on GOT tonight! It has been a great season so far, and it is great to see new content that isn't beholden to following the books.

    Human Paladin 1 (Tortured Crusader) (Iomedae)| AC 20 T 12 FF 18 | HP 13/13 | CMB +4| CMD 16 | | F +4 R +2 W +4 | Initiative +4 | Perception +6

Pumped about GoT! It's amazing to think it's just tonight and six more episodes next season and that's it.

As for PbP, I have been lurking out here for a while, like a shy boy wanting to ask the girls to dance at prom but is steadily working up the nerve. I used to design home brew worlds back in the 2nd edition days, so the creativity has been there. I appreciate the praise, thanks!

Is it only six? That's a bummer. I assumed it would be seven like this season. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be epic. Also I read awhile back about some possible spin-offs, so we might have that to look forward to.

  • I just looked at the group loot sheet and it isn't suited to adding a "wish list" for every PC. If anyone is inclined to add one, do so on your character sheet and I'll see it.

Erodin, I just added the link to the Loot sheet to the top of the Game info, next to the map links. That frees up your PC header line a bit if you want/need the space for anything else. Thanks again for making it.

Sure, go ahead. The little bit of gold you netted from its sale is negligible once split 6 ways, so don't worry about any corrections to money. We'll let this one slide.

A quick note about healing wounds: I like the idea that healing magic would mend the wound and stop the bleeding but would leave scars in place of most serious wounds. This is a flavor thing and has no effect on game play, but I wanted to throw it out there for you guys to know for future reference. Maybe you guys could work it into your RP as you gain a few scars of your own!

So, someone want to create a default watch order? We're probably safe in the cave, but I figure it's a good time to discuss anyway.

With a 6 person party, you could try to do 2-person watches. Everyone watches 4 hours, rests 8 hours. That still gives us 8 hours march, 12 hours rest, 4 hours of whatever in a typical day. I suggest dual watches because Erodin is a very oblivious guard (Perception +0). On the plus side, though, he has Darkvision.

    How about:

    First Watch: Eina and Pinto.
    Second Watch: Taecuss and Erodin.
    Third Watch: Brandt and Carith.

Eina has perception +1 and Pinto +4.
Erodin has perception +0 and Taecuss has +6. They are also the ones with darkvision and low light vision respectively, for the darkest part of the night.
Brandt had perception +4 and Carith +3. This would have Carith up anyway when it is time for him to pray for spells.
And in the first two watches, it gives someone more durable (Pinto and Erodin) with someone more fragile (Eina and Taecuss).

That gives us at least one +4 on each shift. Thoughts?

I don't like the thought of using it in melee to be honest, because of the self-damage. If they have DR 5/cold iron, I might just power attack through it with the Lucerne Hammer. Should've bought a cold iron cestus or something, but didn't think it through!

If it's not too late, I think it's better if Brandt gets the Magic Weapon, since he has a cold iron dagger. Or I'll take it on the hammer? Sorry about that.

I know there's a lot of information in the last bunch of posts. Reaching the Keep and establishing it as your operations base is key and obviously not something we can gloss over quickly.

I'm planning on either making a spot on the "campaign info" tab or putting up a google-docs link to help keep track of NPCs and quests/leads. This will be beneficial for obvious reasons. If any of you happens to already have such a document, that would save me some time and effort.
