Wow... Guess what wayfinder chewed on for a whole day... At least it didn't eat the post entirely....
Anyways, just finished printing character sheets, but sure how that escaped getting done earlier this week. All packed up, have a back up mini in case I can't find the perfect Cyrus mini.
Pumped.

Pictures when I get back and have a computer. The iPhone is unsufficient for my style of picture posting.
Missing you, John. You're getting a lot of attention during out drunken post rehashes.
Jyri, we spoke to your VC. According to himself, he's too important to remember you. I'm not sure if this was humor, a translation issue, literal or a combination of the three.

Thanks guys - that means a lot.
So happy that you are all having fun, though I am sure you are all experiencing some Con fatigue. Coffee, few red bulls, and find some Vitamin C/zinc pills.
When everyone gets home and settled, I have spent the last few days down time following some fun Pathfinder rabbit holes and have some ideas.
BTW a little birdy helped me out with some HeroLab, so I have the shell versions. Getting ready for the plunge for the numerous books I need to buy, then going to reassess at what I want to buy. Let me know if anything goes by the Wolf Lair booth if you get a chance.
Take care boys, and have a round on me (I can Payapl it to you after I deduct the 66 cents Steve owes me), just make sure you wipe the seat, and toast the most majestic fowl there is and punch Chuffy - gonna kill him
Damien Wilmann |
Hero lab booth was bare, sorry mate (just terminals and printers). As for Con Fatigue.... did you see my posting time? That was less than 4 hours before I ran Six Seconds to Midnight... 2 hours' sleep is ample time to get the beers out of the system and recharge for a morning session. The main issue has been getting food between games... especially when they run late because someone...
Thanks for the reasoning mate, makes perfect sense. We're already talking about how to get you here for next year, though, so be forewarned!!!
Having a blast. I always thought you guys were great, and now I know that three of you definitely actually are.

Looks like you're having good time there :)
Sorry for the radio silence... Was spending some time countryside with family plus two-year old niece, so I was pretty exhausted and didn't try to post anything.
@Damien : I suppose you've met our newly appointed VC, then. It might be Finnish humour, and the fact the games are coordinated in a forum, so at least I know most people by their forum aliases rather than their real names.
Don't get yourselves (or your characters ) killed out there!

Freaking loved GenCon, and mostly just meeting the PbP folk (superstars and beyond) at the various tables and pubs.
In case you haven't been following along, some of us have shared our thoughts on Painlord's GenCon Blog. Have a read, it's full of interesting nuggets (not just on our posts, either).
Jack is a beast of a real life GM, he does it hardcore. Also, his maple bacon bourbon was delicious. I don't know if I'll be able to enjoy whisky without a fat content ever again.
TheBobJones |
Welcome back GenCon goers. I am sure that you are nursing your GenCon hangovers today. I'd did read that blog before you posted, aside from the kerfuffle with mustering Painlord, sounds great. Would love to hear more from you guys, any cool boons or purchases?
To ease you back into the fold, PbP Gameday was announced.
So it runs from September 19th, 2015 to November 3rd, 2015.
Jack has his tables planned out with the Slayers, Damien, not sure if you get credit for RoW, but probably not. I know I would like to run a table or two to get some boons on top of having fun, and Jyri probably wants in too.
On the horizon, we have the Haunting to run first with the pregens, I'd like try to get that going by midweek if we can. I did lots of prep and reassessing you should do very well with the PreGen except for the save or suck. I assume that you are all sporting reroll shirts now ....
After that, I had volunteered to run Bronze House Reprisal a Season 7 - not sure if you played it or not.
That should take us pretty close to PbP Game day - and ideas for what we do after that? I had found a list of Sanctioned Modules. I would love to run this either for the Drongos, or I could do a lower tier for some secondary characters that wanted some experience.
Well, welcome back and I look forward to a resume of our superstar status later this week. I am sure that you have lots of RL stuff to catch up on, I am doing so renovations to my daughter's bathroom while she is away.
Damien Wilmann |
Yeah, should be a fairly light week for me this week. As you say, lots to do after being away so long. That goes double for me as my in-laws are coming from Australia in just 5 more days. Eep! So many Australian visitors, and with my trip back to Australia three weeks ago, this is getting ridiculous. Can't wait to enjoy just being in America... sometime in late September by the time all this Aussie stuff dies down.
As for GenCon, was an amazing time. The biggest struggle for me was getting food and caffeine before the 8am slot, and food in general between all slots. I've got some ideas for next year, but it involves going to a supermarket of some kind on Wednesday. The level of junk consumed by me is giving me digestive distress (not actual, just imagined).
Regarding PbP Gameday, it is amazing that they got support for the multi-table event! So cool. I highly recommend you non-GenCon folk (and Jack!) play that (or run that, if you like, John). It's a shame that Serpent's Rise runs beforehand, as there are spoilers (but there'll be spoilers either way). We didn't actually get to finish it (I guess that's what happens when you roleplay during a tight scenario), but it was a freaking blast. I don't think I would have enjoyed it quite so much the other way around (by the way, there are spoilers no matter which way around you play it - between that and Siege of Serpents, that is, as the events in both occur simultaneously).
I'd rather stick to Scenarios for Lort, but am totally up for a module with other characters. Perhaps I can play Haafiz (Barbarian 1 / Inquisitor 6) just for one module.
In more general news, I won't be running PFS over PbP for the foreseeable future. I'm enjoying playing, but I really felt the straight jacket when I ran Six Seconds to Midnight (though I did my best to break free). I just love the freedom that running an AP (or any non-sanctioned game) gives me... too much to really want to run PFS anymore. In any case, I'm totally booned up from GenCon!
Speaking of... have some (hopefully) coolness for you boys in the near future on the Zedroom gameplay thread.

Forgive the interruption (again), but there are things that need to be said...
As for GenCon, was an amazing time.
TOTALLY. This was a good time and it was heightened by me being able to meet (and drink with) you, Jack, Steve, & redshirt Christopher. (Papa, how did I not meet you?)
I'm still jealous that this crew is so f'ing cool and amazing. And GenCon was good. It might be my only (it's definitely my first) and I have enough good memories that I'll never regret not going again.

I can't wait to see what you guys do in an AP. I think you'll have a blast with it.
I'd rather stick to Scenarios for Lort,
Lort? LORT?
Remember that time that Lort hit something? Neither do I.
What's Lort's favorite imaginary number? Anything above a 5 on a d20.
What's Lort's favorite real number? Nat 1.
Oh! New Pathfinder book announced: Unchained Lort where they are actually rebuilding the Lort to have a aura of courage added...the current Lort build is afraid of hitting anything.
:)

There is no interruption - you are more then welcome in our Zedroom! (as is any of the other awesome people we met at Gen Con... We really are a pretty inclusive group)

I think Cyrus got more associated with the real me than my actual forum handle - and I am totally ok with that :)

I agree, GenCon was a blast, and totally worth the combined 10 hours of sleep I got across the whole weekend. (that might be above average for most people too...) The games were fun, and the experience was good, but what made it great was meeting all the people we did, Damien, Jack, Painlord, all of Jack's crew, etc. The bar is set pretty high for a return trip.

I laughed uncomfortably loud at this, and also felt pity at the same time.... I love this group!

We did play Bronze House Reprisal - (fun scenario) so that one might be tough to fit in with half of these players, but would be awesome for Chris B., Jyri, and you to get in.
I am definitely down for getting some PbP gameday scenarios in.
Cyrus is now 8.0 -
With the application of some pregen sheets, Pooka is level 5.0 also. (@Damien - Can I get you to switch the RoW chronicle to Pooka please?)
Pooka would be able to jump into some mid-level scenarios, and even probably hold his own pretty well playing up to a 6-7 tier if necessary (taking Cyrus' place for a few scenarios to help the rest of our drongos catch back up)
I decided I am going to stick with Jaender, and continue to try to find his story for the Slayers group. I thought I would have more time over GenCon to work this out, but the sheer amount of stuff we did still amazes me.
I think we are on the same wavelength Damien - a pile of groceries and a hotel room I can get to in a few minutes walk, some proper planning and there will be significantly less money spent on restaurants...
I also have some unplayed (as of yet) character concepts that I would love to break out if others want to jump on the PbP Gameday bandwagon. So whatever you've got, count me in.
@John - I did get the expedition manager boon, but I don't remember what the others are... I still have yet to sort out the pile of papers I collected.

@Painlord: Classic. Had me laughing out loud, too. Lort did seem to have just a little trouble hitting. Aroden Reborn (or was it Abadar?) is welcome to explain to Kurgess why he wasn't looking out for Lort in the time before Kurgess was born.
If you want to see how we do on an AP, just check it out!
Reign of Winter: Misfits Unchained
Some of the most pure roleplaying I've ever done as a GM, or seen from my players.
If you want to play... I'm trying to formulate a plan. Mad, mad keen to do something with you and some of the other awesome folk from the boards that I met at GenCon. Not sure what yet, but something.
@Papasteve08: I'll see what I can do for Pooka & RoW. Also, for some odd reason, you've gone back to being a weedy blonde dude in my mind on the forums - but remain your tough (if height-restricted), dark-haired self when I remember fondly the times we spent monstering through scenarios in the Sagamore and then ruining our mornings by staying out late and drinking (closing out Scotty's not once, but twice).

Ha! I thought I would be reading your posts in an Austrailian accent when I got home, but the sound and inflection of it is surprisingly already leaving my brain... All the more reason to do this again next year then.

Doy. Duh. Uhm...I was drunk when I met you so...uh...that's why it didn't click. Also, you totally don't look like a Papa. You don't look anything like a Papa. I've seen Papas, including notables Papa John, Ernest Hemingway, Cool Papa Bell, Papa Lazarou, and Papa Murphy. And even a Big Papi, once...but none resemble you in the least.
Yeah, you're Cyrus the Flea to me. :)

Side note - When we do the haunting I would like to claim the kineticist unless someone is really itching to play that one... I can't get the picture of avatar: the last airbender out of my head ever since I overheard the author describing it as such at the Paizo Booth. I am not sure if that makes me want to play the class more or less (even though I am a big fan of that cartoon) but I would like to give it a shot!
Mikko, lurker RPG Superstar 2014 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Hey hey hey, RPG Superstar begins soon and as you know, the top 4 contestants get to write a PFS module each, so y'all should enter. (Especially you, Lockwood! And you Karma, since Finland needs a third Top 4 finalist...) Since I'm not part of the contest in any official capacity this time around, I'll gladly comment on any magic items you're planning to submit.

Hey Mikko! I can't wait for RPGSS, thanks for the reminder. And, I'm sure I will take you up on that offer too, it seems like you know you stuff when it comes to RPG design! Also, I can't wait for your monster design contest either, that was really fun last year. I would highly recommend everyone try submitting for both contests :)

Mikko - very generous of you. I know that the requirements for Superstar are pretty tight so the more eyes, the better.
On a unrelated note, if you haven't please check in for the Haunting of Hinojai.
Occultist, and Mesmerist taken. Steve has also claimed the kineticist.

Is there a worst class, that everyone unanimously doesn't want to play? If so, I'll take that one.
Mikko, lurker |
RPGSS starting in August was a bit of a surprise, and we (the judges) decided we'll start Here Be Monsters later than we originally intended. On the one hand, we don't want to take away any attention from RPGSS, and on the other hand, we don't want to risk losing potential contestants.
Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the Haunting of Hinojai. I should play more PFS, I can't even remember if I've played any scenarios since PaizoCon...
Papasteve08 |
Ummm.... Yea, so I totally looked at you talking about RPGSS and assumed that you were priming us for December.
HOLY CRAP THAT IS EARLY!!!!
I am glad you mentioned something, I would have never even thought to look, and would have missed it completely. Guess I better get started on that idea...

I want to adventure with bugdip!
On another note, Lockwood and I are working on finishing the backstory, once and for all. It is turning out to be much longer than we had originally anticipated. It may end up reading like a short story....

@ Mikko: Wow, yeah, yikes... Thanks for saying something about RPGSS, even after reading your message, I just assumed you meant RPGSS was getting closer because more than half the year was done, and so December/January were by default getting closer. I had no idea it was starting so soon. I really need to think of an item.

Man, I can almost see the tumbleweeds on our games today... everyone still in GenCon mode? I'm still way pumped to do some PbP after getting back... as you may have noticed from my "for no reason" posts on the Zedroom gameplay thread. ;-)
Anyway, hope all's well for you boys and I'll move things along again on RoW tomorrow (though it occurs to me that maybe my massive story made it hard for folks to catch up... blame John, and now I want the tip!).
PapaSteve's Wayfinder Alias |
I'm ready to rock! I have been checking the threads an inordinate amount of time today, even thigh I should still be catching up on sleep...
Soon... I just have to finish updating Cyrus... It's amazing how much more complicated it is to update a character with six new chronicle sheets...

I managed to sleep, off and on, all day... mostly through different TV shows, and the like. Have to get to work on a bunch of things now... and then get back to sleep!
What? I got plenty of sleep this weekend... By Sunday AM, I had figured I had 10 hours... since Wednesday!
Ok, well, getting back to things. I may not launch the final encounter of Temple until tomorrow AM.
So, I am a hard core GM, Damo? ;) You are just saying that 'cause I sundered Cyrus's wakazashi, after I had turned Indy Quest to stone with the trap (really, that was the scenario, not me!)
It was suggested I went soft on Daniel by allowing him to burn the PP + out of town... but both Daniel and I thought it was fair (though perhaps farfetched).
Damien Wilmann |
@Jack: I was saying you do it 'hardcore' because I saw the state of your hotel room! Pro tip: if Jack invites you up to his room for some maple bacon bourbon, accept early. It was worth it on day five, but it would have been better on day one or day two. ;-)
As for your GMing style, I was (prior to playing) concerned because of all your player kill boasts, but I found you to be fun and absolutely more than fair about everything. Having played with Grandpa McDouchebag, I really see the advantage of extensive rules knowledge that is consistently applied (even if that sometimes feels harsh) over the alternative.
Oh, and 7 PP for a stone to flesh only 1 hour from town is perfectly reasonable. The mechanics of how the PFS happened to know he needed it can be left to the imagination - after all, that's what we roleplayers do right? Oh, and we were also actually being observed.
PapaSteve's Wayfinder Alias |
Just for the record, I was not upset at anyone (read: Jack the gm) that my sword got sundered... Especially because it was obvious it was written into the scenario... It just made me sad to lose my shiney. But that's what pp is for!
And yes, I agree with Damien, I thought Jack was more than fair
-Posted with Wayfinder
Silbeg |
Damien, you have to realize that the the "kill boasts" are mostly just that... boasting. Heck, my kill rate is pathetic! Not one that didn't get reversed all weekend (the missed jump over the spiked pit in The Confirmation got rerolled.... 'cause I am a nice guy in real life!) :D

So... was updating my characters' "have played" lists, and came across something on Xûll's profile: "Wardstone Patrol (current PbP)". Woah! Totally forgot about that one. What ever happened to it? I'm pretty sure we paused it so we could hit the GenCon games, but are we intending to head back and play? My mind has several holes in it following the Con.
Anyway, I'm fine either way (game continues or dies) but I just wanted to point out that we had started. ;-)
Lort |
Just got Lort all sorted in Hero Lab (had him sorted at the con on my iPad, but damn Dropbox conflicts killed it all!). Was totally amazed when his gold in Hero Lab exactly matched the gold remaining after his last chronicle and purchases. Insane (and I cheered more than a little at that).
Lort now has an unfettered shirt. I can't find anywhere that mentions what action the activation is, so that means it's a standard action right? Just wanted to check before it comes up in game... whenever that may be.

Wow! I forgot about that too!!! I should probably finish that out before I apply the chronicles that will take him to level 5 eh?
I am in favor of finishing it out, but for John's sanity I am guessing we should finish the Haunting of Hanojia first? Either way, I love the idea of getting Pooka some more chronicles, and getting back into that character.
