Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

I do some quick thinking about it. If we do the scenario, Jaender will be level 5 for Enigma Vaults.... So maybe that will be the determining piece of information.

Still, if you all don't want to do Temple of Empyrial Enlightenment (or have played it) that would be part of the factor. Don't want to run a game people can't or don't want to play!

I am down for the temple, but yes, one more and I will be level 5, because of my chronicle for trial by machine. If everyone wants to do temple before the vaults, and doing that will take me out of tier, I can sit out temple, or see if I can use another character. I have a couple of characters that are fresh, though they wouldn't be higher than level 2....

-Posted with Wayfinder

Ok, so I looked it up, and enigma vaults is 3-5, so we can totally do the temple scenario first, then switch to the vaults, unless everyone else wants to hit level 5 before we go in...

Sports book was closed. Will try again tonight. Paying 40 to 1 for the Lions, which doesn't seem like nearly enough... but for $10? No big deal.

Woo! Then it will cost me 400 just to fly out to cash my slip in... :) hope you are having a great time!

-Posted with Wayfinder

Wow. Bet placed, but only 25 to 1... apparently everything's more expensive in Vegas. ;-)

I'll pass you the ticket at GenCon. No charge, but you're coming with me to Vegas to claim it if they win.

Having an awesome time. Just waiting for a poker table after an awesome steak, which followed an awesome round of golf. Word of the weekend? Yep, "awesome".

... Deal! You make it sound so awesome, now I just want them to win so we can go golfing, get a steak and hit the poker tables when I cash that in!

-Posted with Wayfinder

All of that has made this an absolute cracker-jack boys' weekend. Strippers were great fun, too... if you like that kind of thing. I've never been pressured for an "upsale" so often in my life, though, so you definitely have to watch out! That aside, very pleasant times. Probably helped by winning $550 at the poker tables beforehand! ;-)

Next scenario: #3-21 The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment

Please check in, we'll start as soon as we are all ready!

$550 at the poker tables? Sounds like you know what you are doing!

Or you were playing with people who don't know what they are doing. Huzzah Damien!

Ok, this last weekend was "moving out" day, and today and tomorrow is "moving in" day. I should be able to post all day today and tomorrow, but it could be sporadic.

You always need to play with some people who don't know what they're doing... ;-)

So far, I haven't lost at the poker table at any casino in Vegas (5 different tables over 2 trips). My only loss was playing craps last time... but they call totally random chances a "crap shoot" for a reason.

So much fun. I find that I am now wanting the Lions to win Superbowl 2016... hmmm. I hope JJ doesn't hear about that, my ribs are already bruised from my ill-conceived disembarkation from a moving golf cart.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

This is the picture of efficiency gentlemen. The movers (who are KILLING it, I can't believe how hard they are working) aren't even finished, and I have internet access on my laptop. I just need to hurry and post before my wife catches me...

Don't worry Damien, I won't tell JJ if you don't. And when we go to the poker tables, we sit at different ones. I want a chance to win money when I go. :)

Edit: Oh yea... so that golf cart story will be a must tell at GenCon...

Liberty's Edge

Hey, what happened to "what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas"? :)

But congrats Damien, you sound like a semi-professional poker-player.

Yeah, putting it up on the forums kinda defeats the whole motto. However, my wife is very, very accepting of my excesses. Heh, thinking about it, I got more flak for asking to go to GenCon this year than I did for blowing $250 on strippers last Saturday night (all she said was "that's coming out of your poker winnings, right?").

Still on the Vegas motto, I got a bit of a laugh in the airport when I saw a "What happens here... stays here!™" sign, which I thought was both amusing and a bit on the nose (especially the "™"). Amusing and on the nose - so much like the rest of Vegas.

As for poker, I wish I was semi-professional! Last time I went to a casino (Coushatta, LA), I lost $1,100! I'm still "up" on casinos overall, though, and definitely on Vegas ones (where there is a high proportion of drunk and experimental / beginning players). I'm also leading the Bridgeland poker tournament this year (I'm at #1 out of about 50 serious players and 30 not-so-serious ones), but the pros and semi-pros could all crush me without looking at their cards. Those dudes have amazing reading abilities.

Looks like we are still waiting for Arturo and Strong Brute at The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment

Liberty's Edge

Does anyone have any ideas how to boost will saves besides cloak of resistance and Iron Will? Yesterday's scenario took a bad turn when my swashbuckler failed will save against confusion, and ended up killing one pc (and practically also the tag-along pregen-Kyra). Not the proudest moment in his career.

There was some really bad dice luck involved, but still I'd like to do my best to prevent it happening again.

Headband of wisdom? Probably not for a swashbuckler!

Seriously, though, there was precious little you could do until Ultimate Equipment. Check out these:

Cap of the Free Thinker 12,000gp

Mind Sentinel Medallion 3,500gp (looks like this one was made for your situation)

In other news... anyone heard from Chris B? Considering putting him on bot until I see a post.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

While it won't help with Confusion, there is also the Clear Spindle Ioun stone... which, when slotted in your wayfinder, acts like Protection from Evil against charm and compulsion effects.

Also, a simple Calm Emotions spell would help as well.

I heard from Chris B that he's been swamped suddenly at work, but will be back to normal over the weekend.

Liberty's Edge

Cap of Free Thinker would be good, just really expensive, while Mind Sentinel Medallion is way too expensive for a one-shot item... Clear spindle might be the one to buy, at least it would protect against dominate spells.

I might be overreacting here, I just had awful rolls at that point. (First roll = 1, Saving Finale reroll = 3, Shirt reroll = 4 => confused. When confused, I attack the closest target (25% change), enemy and the pc both adjacent and of course I have to attack the friend. One full attack later one very dead gunslinger...

And it was Calm Emotions which brought Valentino back to his senses.

Male Halfling Bard/1

To second Silbeg, I have had multiple employees out, so have been working extremely long hours at work. I apologize for my extended absence, guys! I'll try to get caught up tomorrow. You fellas make it hard to catch up. :)

No problems man, hope it clears up at work soon!

Just as a quick note (to everyone, too), if you're able to at all, if you're going to be unable to post, it'd be awesome if you could manage just one quick post on the Zedroom to let the GMs know. If you can't, that's fine (RL > PbP)... and I wouldn't mind if you texted me and I could post also. Numbers are all on the spreadsheet. Put me in your phone - you're in mine! ;-)

And on that note, starting at about lunch time today and continuing on until Tuesday morning I will be light posting at best.

After Tuesday, breathes sigh of relief, I will be back to abnormal amounts of posts! The last few week have seen RL way too busy for my taste. Looking forward to some relaxing PbP. Yeah!

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Company golf outing today. It really doesn't get much better than that. I will not be able to post from about 10:30am for about 7 or 8 hours. I always hate being the one to hold up combats, and I know we are just getting into one here in ROW. I will at least get another post up tonight.

Glad things are slowing down for both of you!

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

I'll second @Damien on the text message. Just a quick "Sorry, dude... busy today" or something would be great.

Liberty's Edge

Were we planning to play Bonekeep with the slayers? Or was Bonekeep ruled to be not playable as pbp? There's a bonekeep level I game coming up locally, so I'm thinking if I'll be joining that or not. Prioritizing Slayers of course, but that is not possible I'll play the local game.

Up to Jack, since he's the only one who can run it - but I'd say play locally. Bonekeep didn't seem to factor into any of our "up next" plans for the Slayers.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

Since, technically, we are not allowed to play it PbP (due to the time resriction), I'd go ahead and play locally.

Flight delayed 2.5 hours so I am mostly caught up on games. Hawks might win the Stanley cup tonight so things will be CRAZY.

Sorry for lack of posts tonight... There is some good stuff i want to respond to, but unfortunately it will have to wait till the morning...

-Posted with Wayfinder

Dragging a bit today, had some rough weather at home and we had some pretty lengthy travel delays. Still need to watch my beloved Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, pilot gave us updates as we were in the air, but I am going to watch every second of it.

So Free RPG day is this weekend - is a new installment of WEG coming out? If so can Jack run that again after Empyreal?

I can certainly run We Be Goblins, Free after Temple.

Liberty's Edge

It's midsummer, so I'll be heading of town. Couple of days without my laptop. Horribly busy day today, so very little posting from my end, sorry about that...

Happy Midsummer, if you happen to celebrate it across the ocean!

Happy midsummer! Or more likely, happy lead in to the 4th!

On a likely related note, I had nothing to read this morning! It was weird eating my breakfast without threads to read...

On a completely unrelated note... I purchased unchained and the acg for my hero lab, and purchased all 7 of the books I use content from in pdf form so they will be easy to carry into the con... I wonder how many people will be using hero lab on their laptops? Hopefully they have power to plug into.... I'm not sure how long my battery will last doing 3 sessions a day...

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

Remember that you are required to have a paper hard copy of your character. That is a rule.

Do not expect there to be power. Prepare for that. I have a backup battery (from Anker) I bought on Amazon, holds enough to power my iPad for a full charge, but takes a good long time to recharge. I am probably going to get another, soon, just in case.

I've got two backup batteries with USB ports which I'll bring. Symptom of long flights with small children who don't understand about economy seating and the resulting lack of power sockets. :-)

Laptops will be an issue. The tables are all over a ballroom floor. You'll be lucky if you're near a plug. Don't forget (as Silbeg advised earlier) to also take a leveled up version of your character on paper, too!

Also... not sure if I'm excited or "meh" about Talk Like a Pirate Gameday. Will I turn down the chance to earn a GM boon as a result? Hells no. Expect a pirate scenario to interrupt Reign of Winter just as soon as I figure out what the rules are.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

I think all of our GMs should get a game in, even if that means having to recruit additional players. First, to show off our amazing group. Second, to get us all the tasty GM boons!

So, between Damien and myself, we'll have 4+ USB batteries. More is always better in this case.

But, and I apologize for being repetitive. Make sure you have ALL your chronicles, filled out, and in order. Have paper copies of all your characters, including having them leveled up, as necessary (save them in the .por as separate characters. Damnit. Should have done that with Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight!) I use simple report covers for each character, with labels and color coding on them. Makes it easy. Make sure to bring your minis... but also, make sure you have your mini when you leave the table! I ended up with a couple of extras last year.

And then, the Con stuff... drink lots of water (Gen Con is really good about having water containers out, as I recall). Eat, sleep, shower. Have some healthy snacks. Be warned, Gen Con is a BLAST, but it is an endurance run as well!

Remember, you are all joining me and my crew at Scotty's ... probably every night ... where the standard order from my group has been 1 pitcher per person to start. You have been warned.

Just the single pitcher? Pffft. Lightweight.

Sooooo... I'm down, but I am a "cheap date" as they say. Pretty sure a pitcher has a good chance of killing me.

As to the paperwork, I will make sure I am buttoned up and organized. I have some catch-up to do, but it will all be documented. I may leave the laptop in the hotel and just update hero-lab after the fact. Sounds like it might be easier...

I never said we only ordered once.

That's just warm ups.

Then there are the fishbowls... we even invented a new one for them last year. Think an Arnie Palmer with whiskey.

Silbeg speaks truth...

So I showed up, asked them to order me a beer as I needed to hit the head. When I cam back there was a pitcher and one glass sitting on the table for me. It was gonna be that kinda night.

The best part about the fishbowl creation was when they brought out a third one for us because they made too much. They just gave it to us free of charge.

The bar to get thrown out of the Steak 'n Shake at 4am is incredibly low.

Lastly, never get in the fountain; no matter what Hitchcock tells you.

Removed some things to eliminate context just to make that quote more fun...

I think we know what character most resembles Silbeg in his stable...

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Ok - confession time.

I haven't tracked anything on my chronicle sheets. I have done everything in hero lab, and posting on the forums what I buy and sell.

I realize the folly of those ways now that I need to make sure all my paperwork is in order for the con.

/cowers under faustus' glare

Once I get it all filled out, would it be possible to get a second set of eyes to look it over and make sure I have it right so I don't slow down my first table on Thursday?

I can repay all favors in beer and minis.

speaking of minis... I haven't ordered that one yet... crap. one more thing to the list...

Happy to look it over. No favors needed.

I've been keeping my chronicles up to date in both, and especially with GM credit mix-ins, it can be an absolute b*tch. Happy to make it easier for you any way I can.

Also, PMed Neil Spicer. He said he'd have a read if he managed to find the time.

I've read through most of it, skipping ahead to see how certain encounters played out. Seems like Damien is doing just fine. It's up to every GM to tailor these adventures to their players, and he's certainly found ways to hook, entice, and entertain you guys. I hope you're having fun. Keep on gaming, and I may still check in from time to time just to see how things are coming along.

My two cents,
