Surface
As Mae tries to protect Marcan and finds her powers somewhat fizzling, Ameiko and James easily take out one of the goblins.

When Marcan tries to get a better hold on his, though, it wriggles in attempts to escape. Marcan is able to hold tight, but cannot pull it any closer, even with its weapon tossed aside and its arm broken. It gnashes its teeth at Marcan, as if daring him to try and get closer to it.

The final goblin, having drawn his weapon, charges across the trash pile to dive at James.

Underground
Bolgrond gets a sense that there is fresh air coming from some distance away to the North West end of the cavern. The southern side smells considerably more stale.

Male Human

Marcan snarls back at the goblin in his grasp, and switches tactics, trying to bludgeon it with the hilt of his rapier.

H&S: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

Guessing from the narration that the last post's Defy was Dex, so no marking XP?
Also, not sure if the bludgeoning attempt still qualifies as finesse for H&S, but with that roll it's still a 10+. Not going to press my luck, trying to just knock this one out.

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

"What's the plan then?" the "goblin" asks Bolgrond.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

What is with me today? Mae runs over to help hold down the snarling and fidgeting goblin Marcan has tackled. Let me know what you want me to roll for this one. Will add modifier to based DM: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

"Behold, little hobgoblin..."

Bolgrond holds up Redfather, and points down either end of the tunnels, looking for which direction it glows the brightest.

"What name did you carve for yourself little one?" He asks of Jin "Brol'kreshgitthrond was the blood name I cleaved from my litter. But in the man-tongue I am Bolgrond."

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

Jin shakes his head at the continued misconception, but shrugs. What can one expect from a species of their intellectual capacity? the halfling thinks to himself.

"Well met, Bolgrond," he says, tacking a more diplomatic tack, which was unusual for him. The enormous red sword might have something to do with that. "I am Jin'roku, the C-...just Jin'roku. You may call me Jin." The diminutive masked mage offers a bow without taking his eyes off the bugbear.

Storyweaver 10

While Ameiko and James kill the remaining goblins, Mae succeeds in holding one down (it whimpers as she does so) while Marcan knocks it unconscious. You now have an unconscious goblin!

Underground, Bolgrond points his sword in both directions but finds that it does not glow in either. Perhaps understandably, as what the two have seen of the caves suggests no goblin activity.

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

"Hmmmm, no other goblins here. And whatever the beast was, it's gone.... Then we rejoin the hunt above." He says, grimacing in disappointment

Bolgrond sheathes the enormous sword in the scabbard on his back and hefts Jin and himself back out the way they came, making note of the entrance of this tunnel system to find it again when things calm down.

Male Human

Marcan glances around. When no more goblins charge, he looks at his companions. Assuming there's no screams or other evidence of the attack continuing elsewhere: "Nicely done. Shall we drag this one to the town guard, see if they have an intact cell?" He turns and looks the stranger over before offering her a bow. "My name is Marcan. I'd say welcome to Sandpoint, but we're clearly not at our best right now. Thank you for your help, and especially for protecting my wife."

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

Can Bolgrond and I see where Mae and Marcan are from where we're standing? If we can, I make my way immediately over to them. If not, I simply move toward where the most noise is coming from.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Maelivrin at your service, but please call me Mae. She gather herself for a moment. I agree, a cell is about the best this one deserves. Mae scanned the streets for more activity. There had been a halfling and a bugbear who had also been taking charge before... Marcan, did you happen to see where that halfling and bugbear took off too?

Male Human

"Mae. A pleasure to make your acquaintance. The last time I saw those two, they were staring at the hole in the ground left by that tentacle thing. Do you know either of them?" Marcan replies.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

No, not at all...but when was the last time you saw a halfling in a mask like that or a bug bear aiding in the destruction of goblins? It piques my interest to say the least. The small one had the chops for the arcane... Mae became lost in her thoughts before sliding back to the present. She looked to Marcan. You have considerable skill with those daggers. I can't say I can do much with this staff aside from casually poke things. Care to accompany me in locating the hafling and bugbear? Something tells me they might be able to continue to help defend the city.

Male Human

" Certainly. We passed the guard house on our way here, I think." Marcan quickly binds the goblin before leading the group back through town towards the guard house.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Mae nods and follow Marcan to the guard house to drop off the goblin. She lets her mind wander back to the giant tentacle creature. The hole that thing must have left.

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

(Assuming the two of you come into view shortly)

"Here, hello there! We were just looking for you," the halfling says from behind his mask. "We were just about to go hunt some more of those goblin invaders, so I can test more of my magics on them." he wiggles his fingers a little. "Care to join us?"

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Jin, what does the "abdundant sorrow" mask you are wearing look like?

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

I was imagining something like this.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

I like it. Assuming we just drop off the goblin...

At the sight of the masked halfling, And I was looking for you... Mae let's her inquisitive nature slip through any stoic facade she might have originally presented and bends to look closer at the mask, wishing her vision could pierce through to the origin of the halfling beneath. The previous mission had been full of boring people. And Haster darling, all work on boring people makes for an angsty Mae. I have so many questions! Why did you pick this one in particular...? She straightens back up. Mae, pleased to meet you. A mischievous smile returns to her face. I would love to join. This is Marcan. Mae glances over the halfling toward the bugbear. And I must know his name as well.

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

"Bolgrond." He says to Mae proudly.

"What a glorious day the Man-Gods have blessed us with." He proclaims, slapping his new comrades on the back with an enormous paw. "Let us begin the hunt, before the Grey-One... Marcan, withers to dust!" He says guffawing loudly.

He holds his Runesword aloft, letting its red light show the way to Goblins.

Male Human

Marcan chuckles at Bolgrond. " It's good to see you again, furry one. We're all lucky you were here." Turning to the halfling, he offers a slight bow. " And you as well. As the lady said, my name is Marcan. May I ask yours?"

Storyweaver 10

The group has no problem finding a small prison in the guardhouse to toss the unconscious goblin into. They pass a few weary and horribly unqualified guards as they walk through the building, who look simultaneously impressed and surprised at the unconscious goblin. Whether they never thought to do that, or weren't sure it could be done, or are simply impressed, is unclear.

Over the next couple hours, the group makes their rounds, checking the streets in search of more goblins, and getting to know each other. James and the two civilians, Thaddeus and Norman say their goodbyes, intent on returning to their homes.

A few straggler goblins are found and easily dealt with, but the bulk seem to have either been killed or fled. The streets are surprisingly empty as very few people have come back out. The sun begins to set and the group finds themselves back in the center of town.

Up to you what's next! Grab a drink, talk with someone at the guard tower, see someone you've met, try to find the tunnel, get f!@*ed up and forget all about this.

Male Human

Marcan looks around at the faces that have been with him through the long afternoon. What an odd bunch... Still, we're lucky each of them were here. " Thank you, again, for everything you've done today. I'm afraid I need to call it a night soon, or I really will turn to dust and blow away. I think tomorrow, I'll check out the tunnel that tentacle thing left behind; I've never seen anything like that, and it doesn't seem like goblin magic. I'd be grateful if any of you would join me."

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Mae winks to the large one. Nice to meet you... Blinking into the rising sun Mae says her goodbyes to Marcan and turns back to the Bolgrond and Jin. I just moved here...what's bug bear and a sad mask do for fun after a goblin raid?

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

"I, too, am new in town," the halfling states, calmly. Behind his mask, he has had an elevated eyebrow whenever he glanced at Mae. He acknowledges the retiring old man's exit with a short nod, and an upraised hand of farewell according to the custom of his tribe. "We should reconvene at the tentacle-made tunnel, at dawn," he suggests to the old man, before he leaves.

Turning to the dusky cleric, the halfling gestures in the direction of a hospitality district he noticed earlier. "If we're to rest until the morrow, I would be...happy to discuss the nature of my masks with you." Using sleight of hand that he has practiced over his entire lifetime, the halfling has swapped out his mask mid-sentence to his mask of Ecstatic Joy, which is a rather disconcerting mix of garish yellows and greens.

If Bolgrond and Mae agree, Jin will lead them off toward the nearest Inn, that they may have some dinner and find a place to spend the night.

When they arrive at an inn and before they go inside, Jin will turn to the others. "I'll find us a table inside. Meet you there." With a small chuckle, the halfling touches a finger to the forehead of his grinning mask and goes invisible. He's noticed that most inns here in the city have a door charge, and he wishes to avoid that. Invisibility: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

"Tomorrow it is then Grey One. For now, we feast and drink." He says with a wicked grin.

Bolgrond waits until the others enter the inn, or go about their business, before he slinks off into the night.

Goblins attack for greed and sport, not like this... unless there is something in it for them. That one goblin had said something about a Half blood?

Father Zantus had been mentoring Bolgrond in the ways of Man, he would surely know what to make of this information.

Bolgrond heads towards the temple.

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

Happy for the conversation with Father Zantus to happen 'off screen', since it might otherwise mess with the pacing.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Mae returns to Ameiko's tavern with the halfling and the Bugbear. She smiles and rolls her eyes at the halfling as he enters under the cloak of invisibility. As Bolgrond heads out Until tomorrow..., before turning back to an Ale. There was much research to do tomorrow. The goblin attack had already faded into her memory. It was the tentacle that held her attention. After finishing her ale she said her goodbyes and slipped out into the night. Let me know if there is something you want me to roll of this. I'm using an adventuring gear. Mae wandered on the edge of town until she found the perfect spot. An hour later she had snared a rabbit which she slipped into her pouch after knocking it out. Back in her room she slid onto her floor mat and lit her candles into the shape of a seven pointed star. With her legs crossed and with her index finger tip touching the ragged edge of where the beak would have been on the raven skull center piece of her necklace she drew her small ceremonial knife. Mae let the rabbit begin to stir again before cutting chest to stomach and placing a dot of the rabbit's blood on her cheeks and forehead. Haster darling, the Raven seeks your audience. I'm looking to commune and divine guidance here on how to cast tentacles. I'm fine with it being a piece of fiction where its maybe just another option of divine wrath...summon tentacles 1d6 damage, or something. Let me know what you think.

Storyweaver 10

Marcan goes home, to find his wife waiting, clutching a cup of hot tea with both hands, and looking as though she's been crying. "Thank the gods you're alright!" She bursts as he enters the house. "I was so worried."

Jin manages to sneak inside the inn and find a table. As it's the Rusty Dragon, he sees Mae and Bolgrond enter without having to pay, and Ameiko gets them pretty much whatever they want, without looking for a copper.

The bar, which was close to empty when they arrived, begins to fill up more as people need to take their minds off the day, and want to drink with the joy of still being alive. Before long, Ameiko leaps onto the bar. "Folks! I have important news. Sandpoint has a new crop of Goblinslayers!" At this, several people raise their drinks and roar. Ameiko continues. "They've helped us defend our homes! Give them some gratitude!" There are additional roars of cheering, and several drinks and delicious food shared with Mae, Jin, and Bolgrond.

Bolgrond and Mae stick around for a little while, but each knows they have more pressing things to tend to. Sometime after, during the excitement, Jin notice that both Mae and Bolgrond have slipped out.

Mae retires to her room after an expedition wandering on the outskirts of town, and prays for guidance from Haster. Before long, her vision goes blurry and dark, and she sees a horrifying visage. It looks like Sandpoint, but the sky is blackened, the sands are a deep red, and the buildings are little more than charred remains. Through the streets, civilians are being held aloft by large tentacles, their screams piercing the desolation.

Yeah, I like this idea. Summon tentacles (1d6 damage, Reach, immobilises). It won't prevent archers from shooting or casters from casting (to separate it from Blast or Doom). Think of it like an "Entangling Roots" kind of thing.

Bolgrond reaches the church, and knocks on the door, to be greeted by a troubled-looking Father Zantus. His weary face lights up upon seeing the Bugbear, and he quickly invites him in. "Hello, my son. What brings you out here at this time of night?"

Male Halfling Mage of the Mask 1 Current Mask: Ecstatic Joy | 1/8 XP | 17/17 HP | Str +0 | Dex +1 | Con +1 | Int +2 (temporary -1) | Wis -1 | Cha +0

Seeing the gratitude of the crowd makes Jin feel comfortable enough to shed his invisibility spell. He looks around him before he does so, to make sure nobody notices him suddenly appearing in his table's chair. Thankfully, as a halfling, he often escapes immediate notice.

Male Human

"I know, love." A long hug, followed by a deep breath. "Things are calm enough for now, at least. But... I'm worried. The goblins don't usually attack like that, and the guards aren't in good shape. I think... Tomorrow, I'm going to offer my help."

Male Bugbear Fighter 1 [ HP 25/25 | XP 6/8 | AR 2 | DMG D10 | ] [ STR +2 | DEX -1 | CON +1 | INT +0 | WIS +0 | CHA +1 ]

"Father! What a glorious day for the Gods. Blood spilled and victory!"

Bolgrond enters the temple with a wide smile, under the clear assumption that Human Gods must celebrate their holy days much like the Goblin Gods do.

"But Goblins do not raid so deep into man-warrens... towns. One of them told me the Half blood sent them. Should I find this person Father? Should I ...break their bones?" he asks, clearly confused at what the appropriate civilised response would be.

Female (21) Human Cleric 1 [ HP: 19/19 | XP: 4/8 | AR: 1 (+0 dvinity) | DMG: D6 ] [ STR -1 | DEX 0 | CON 0 | INT +1 | WIS +2 | CHA +1 ]

Before
The cheers are enough to cause her to slink off...

Now
Finishing her pray and feeling her new found tentacle-y goodness...Mae retires for the night.
